(Sorry, this got way longer than I expected)

Oooh.. tricky muse… Vanessa is a mix of so many different things. Of course, growing up I was intrigued by the idea of famous people wanting to be normal, like how Disney channel had Hannah Montana and that brief Jonas Brothers show. And I was obsessed with the movie Starstruck. But then I also wanted the muse to be female, to be able to put a part of myself into her, with the body image pressure, and the feeling like she needs to put aside who she is in order for the music and film industry to accept her.

And her desire to just be loved for who she is, a dream to belong and be known as something more than just her works come a lot from myself as well. Vanessa doesn’t have a strong family present to support her, and neither does I. She is alone in a industry that surely doesn’t care who you are if you don’t make them enough money, and so I try to channel that. At the same time, I wanted the muse to be someone who had it all, who had done the things needed to be successful, and is just now realising the price she paid to get there.Then there is the fascination she has with the ocean. A metaphor I use a lot in my writing. It is open, beautiful, appealing, yet at the same time it is wild, unapologetic and consuming. Ultimately, I want Vanessa to get to a point where she is truly free. But she has a very different path getting there than what Chloe does. I want Vanessa to get to a point where she doesn’t give a damn about who the media and the world thinks she is, or what she should be doing with her time. I want her to learn to listen to her heart, and to take chances.

Also, since some people might not know this. I’m in University studying Theatre and Film. Wanting to go into screenwriting, acting and directing, so yeah.. lots of competition and an everlasting pressure to prove who you are. And too look and play a certain part. Physically and mentally.
