What is means to be a BITSian - my reflections as BITS turns 60 & I turn 11yo BITSian
2008B5A3***G, I predominantly lived in AH2-236 doing some notorious activities in the room and samaj seva (read: Nirmaan) in areas around the campus and I fell in love with Physics plus a few more during the 4 years I spent in Goa.
Through my time at BITS; I had realised that it's an echo chamber, like many places can be, so out of choice and because of some natural circumstances; immediately after graduation I developed a 90% non-BITSian friend circle. I did not come from a biz family nor did I have family wealth to take the kinds of risks I took upon graduation. I worked in a place called Upli Babhan for a company established in Berkeley, HQ-ed in Jaipur. There I happened to meet Yash (& family), Jacob, Anay, Sudeep, Vicky, Naresh, Abhay, Ashok, Ranjeet, Shivraj - and more and Puja, Fenella, Catherine, Meredith, Alok ji, Tanmay ji, Vasundhara Raje ji, Dushyant Singh ji and many more noteworthy people.
Then due to some uncontrolled chaos which I was a bit young to fathom, I left the job and took a couple of months off at home finally deciding to join a fast growing enterprise founded by the only Indian Thiel Fellow. At that time I had read all about Peter Theil and the PayPal mafia and Elon Musk was not that big a name. But I knew that someone who is a Theil Fellow must be smart and holds the potential to build a great biz. That was my 2-year MBA. I worked with management consultants and Ivy League grads and high energy entrepreneurs, sharp with Excel, Data, PPTs, Structure and what not. Often times I was outsmarted. But many noticed my energy and hustle. One smart chap who scored 100% in CAT commented, "What you lack in smartness, you cover up by your hard work." I made some lifelong friends there, all non-BITSians who are doing phenomenal work.
Moving on, I left the job in 2017 to be closer to home, in Mumbai.
A close friend, mentioned to me that folks at SEDEMAC are doing something good, you'd like it here.
So I applied to SEDEMAC, for some exploratory work on IoT which was an epic buzz word then. By now I knew a thing or two about the corporate world, high-growth, product building and importantly my own strengths - what I can and can not do. So I decided that I have to build a team who can compliment my skill sets. I started calling my friends again. Then I got connected with Rajdeep and we had discussion I shared my thoughts and he must have thought "Reasonable lagta hain" so he came along and we started working on a demonstrator - and then Sudeep joined in and subsequently there was a full team working on it. It was a privilege and a dream come true because I always wanted to build a tech-hardware product - I had nothing but some imagination and wild impractical ideas.
Intertwined to all these, I got married and had a daughter; COVID hit and many other things happened. Fast forward to 2023, I took over reigns of marketing.
As matters of brain and heart goes; if not in sync can create panic attacks - having realised that my work style was not sustainable; I decided time to retire. But, boss was not ready to give up on me, yet - neither my family and close friends (who anchored trust in me). They understood my situation and told me to stay put and helped me course correct - put me through required rigorous hard work needed to maintain focus and build conviction. As luck would have it, was able to broker a $100M transaction in course leading upto a year ago to today, sans IB. Leave aside startups shutting shops, IPOs floundering, here was an island who was able to close $100M without any external help. There is merit in competing with large guys, makes you large in case you succeed or leaves you a mature person.
How is all of this related to BITS?
Journey of each BITSian is fodder for not just BITSians but others to see and adapt from; it's a species survival mechanism. Each one who makes to BITS learns competitive capitalism and its place in the society. Sans public support, one learn to stand on their own and respect others who have.
One thing which has worked for me so far is that I never worked with BITSians; because I always wanted to save myself from echo chamber. As friends, I always told my fellow BITSians that stay away from BITSians for a while upon graduation, learn to stand on your own, be independent. That's how you add something to your alma mater. Like all collages, especially collages dependent on itself for financing its means it is an important role of it's alumni to win some bread on their own and give back. Think about why BITS was incepted? What was the founding thought? And every once every 10 yrs ask if you have contributed. Today, BITS is 60 yrs old, only 16 years younger to our elder brother the IITs but we are a part of the process which competes with institutes who 150 years old and much more prosperous.
Happy Sweet 60 BITS!

2024 On Mind, BJP Brainstorms Over Chief Minister Choices For 3 States
The BJP will choose its Chief Ministers for three heartland states — Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh — with an eye on the 2024 Lok Sabha election, party sources have said, adding that new faces may be chosen in all three states.
The BJP won the Assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, results of which were declared on Sunday. The party’s central leadership has been holding discussions on the Chief Minister probables in the three states.
Tumblr media
A four-and-a-half hour meeting was held at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence yesterday, during which the frontrunners in the three states were considered. The meeting was attended by the Prime Minister, Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP chief JP Nadda.
This marathon meeting followed a series of meetings held by Mr Shah and Mr Nadda with the BJP’s in-charges of these states to gather feedback about state leaders.
The BJP’s central leadership is likely to appoint observers for the three states soon. These observers will oversee meetings of newly elected MLAs in the three states to elect their leaders in the Assembly.
In Madhya Pradesh, incumbent Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is a contender for the top post, along with Union ministers Prahlad Patel, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Narendra Singh Tomar, and senior state leader Kailash Vijayvargiya.
Several names are doing the rounds for the Rajasthan top post too. While former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has been elected as an MLA, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Ministers Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Arjun Ram Meghwal, state party president C P Joshi, and prominent leaders Diya Kumari and Mahant Balaknath are being seen as probables.
Former Chief Minister Raman Singh is among the contenders in Chhattisgarh. State BJP president Arun Kumar Sao, leader of opposition Dharamlal Kaushik and former IAS officer O P Chaudhary are also being seen as contenders for the Chief Minister post.
It must, however, be kept in mind that the BJP leadership is known to spring a surprise with its choices.

Vasundhara Raje is preparing to 'Khela' in Rajasthan, the fight against the Chief Minister continues!
Tumblr media
Rajasthan Politics: Bharatiya Janata Party may have had a strong victory in the battle of Rajasthan, but the challenge for the party is still no less. On one hand, Vasundhara Raje is being touted as the Chief Ministerial candidate, while on the other hand, many other stalwarts are also involved in the race. Discussions are in full swing about making Mahant Balaknath the Chief Minister. The public also wants to see him as the Chief Minister, but on the other hand Vasundhara Raje is also seen continuously beating the drum.

Exit Polls analysis
The just concluded State Assembly Elections to Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan, and Telangana have thrown a confusing trend for analysts. Most of the exit pollsters are a confused lot along with most television channels. Tomorrow, 3rd December 2023 will tell how accurate these agencies & TV chanels who conducted the exit polls. About 2 to 3 months back, no one expected BJP to make any kind of come back to power in Chattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. Rajasthan was the only state, where BJP have a definite edge because they decided not to project former CM Vasundhara Raje as the Chief Ministerial candidate because of which they lost the 2018 elections to the state assembly. On 30th November, 2023 Telangana went to polls, and which was the day when Exit poll results allowed. All the exit pollsters looked a confused lot. Their estimates clearly tell that they are not telling the truth or they are confused. Most of them put out a wide range for BJP and INC, two main contenders for power.
Chattisgarh is a closely contested election with INC having a decisive edge about a month back. As the second phase of the elections started, BJP seems to have caught up with them and now the final numbers will be so close that it is a close call for both parties. BJP will win around 39 seats (+/- 3) and INC 47 seats (+/_ 5).
In Madhya Pradesh, BJP initially was lagging behind. Once the election bugle was sounded Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan took the opposition party, INC head on and now they seem to be in the driver's seat. Here too the election is very closely contested. The final tally for BJP is around 120-126 seats and INC 97-103. The possibility of BJP ending with a higher tally is extremely high.
In Rajasthan, BJP will win 120 or more. Voters have decided to teach INC a lesson of their lifetime. INC may end up with 65-70 seats. Here BJP is getting a clear mandate.
Telangana BRS holds the key as they are in power and have a key ally in AIMIM who will not ditch them. INC has made big inroads into BRS's muslim vote bank. That is a worrying factor for AIMIM who has no influence outside Hyderabad. AIMIM will remain a 3% vote share party, not beyond it. BJP is a minor player who increased its vote share to 14% from 2018's 7%. This should worry BRS. If BRS wins 50-55 seats, then they have to reach out to BJP apart from AIMIM who is their traditional ally since the formation of Telangana state in 2013. Wondering how BJP & AIMIM will be part of the same alliance? Will AIMIM walk out of the alliance with BRS? Anything can happen.
In MP and Rajasthan, exit pollsters gave a wide range of 20-30 seats. That means either they are confused or they did not do their work diligently. In Mizoram, they have projected a 6 seats range for the local party in an assembly of 40 seats. That is ridiculous.
BJP will win Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. In Rajasthan, they will win hands down, and in Madhya Pradesh, it is a closely contested fight with BJP having a big edge now. Chattisgarh turned into a nail-biting contest; it can go either way. Telangana is also a closely contested election with BRS losing a lot but staking claim to power with the support of other two parties - AIMIM & BJP. INC gained a lot in this election, bringing them close to power in the state after 10 long years.

She, The Leader By Nidhi Sharma - Unbiased Account Of Famous Female Politicians in Indian History.
When I think about women in politics, Indira Gandhi was the only name that comes to my mind. If speaking about current situation Sonia Gandhi and Smriti Irani would be the names. After reading She, The Leader,by Nidhi Sharma I am shocked to know that so many stalwarts in Indian politics remain uncelebrated or they are celebrated by the regional politics. The names like Vasundhara Raje and Sucheta…
