NuVue Foods Recalls Chicken Burritos Due to Undeclared Allergen

NuVue Foods of Hamtramck, Michigan issued a recall on November 9, 2018 for approximately 268 pounds of their ready-to-eat chicken burrito products due to misbranding that led to the undeclared allergen, egg. Those who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to egg risk serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if product is consumed.

The recall was initiated after receiving a consumer complaint. Investigation revealed that the firm produced “18thStreet Deli Farmers Burritos” that contain eggs were labeled as “18thStreet Deli Chicken Burrito” by mistake.

Affected product was produced on October 31, 2018 and shipped to retail locations (specifically vending machines) in Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. The product can be identified as labeled “18thStreet Deli Chicken Burrito” and bears the USDA establishment number P-22061. See table below for specific product information.

Pictsweet Company Recalls Asparagus Spears Due to Health Risk

Pictsweet issued a recall on November 13, 2018 for 1,872 cases of their 8-ounce Steam’ables Asparagus Spears due to potential contamination with the health risk, Listeria monocytogenes.

Listeria monocytogenesis a harmful bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal illness in the very young, the very old, and those with a compromised immune system. Pregnant women are at risk for miscarriages and still birth. Normally healthy individuals often experience short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

The recall was initiated after the manufacturer inadvertently shipped product that was suspected of containing Listeria monocytogenesto The Pictsweet Company. Only specific products with production codes that start with “2138XD” and a Best By AUG 1, 2020 are included in this recall. See table below for specific product information.

Affected product was distributed to the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennesse00e, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

Jennie-O Turkey Store Sales, LLCRecalls Raw Ground Turkey Products Due to Health Risk

Jennie-O Turkey Store Sales, LLC of Baron, Wisconsin issued a recall on November 15, 2018 for approximately 147,276 pounds of raw ground turkey products due to potential contamination with the health risk Salmonella.

Salmonella may cause serious or even fatal illness. While most healthy individuals often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, the very young, the very old, and those with a compromised immune system may suffer more serious illness. Complications may occur if the infection moves from the gastrointestinal tract and into the bloodstream and other parts of the body resulting in arterial infections, endocarditis, and reactive arthritis.

The recall was initiated because the product may be associated with an illness outbreak of Salmonella. The Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS), Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Arizona Department of Health Services, and public health partners are currently investigating an illness cluster involving 164 case-patients across 35 states. Patients have reported eating different types and brands of turkey products, working with live turkeys, or living with someone who handled live turkeys.

Traceback activities continue on a sample of Jennie-O brand ground turkey from a case-patient’s home. Both the patient and a sample from the ground turkey match the outbreak strain.

Recalled product was produced on September 11, 2018 and was shipped to retail locations nationwide. The product can be identified as bearing the USDA establishment number P-190. See table below for specific product information.

Consumers are urged to throw away recalled product or return to the place of purchase. Consumer questions may be directed to the Jennie-O Consumer Engagement Team at 1-800-621-3505 on Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Saturday though Sunday between 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Jay Robb Enterprises Recall Unflavored Egg White Protein Due to Undeclared Allergen

Jay Robb Enterprises issued a recall on November 16, 2018 for their Unflavored Egg White Protein manufactured by Agropur MSI, LLC of La Crosse, Wisconsin due to the undeclared allergen, milk. Those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk risk serious or life-threatening allergic reaction.

The recall was initiated after discovering that Agropur MSI, LLC packaged whey protein powder into Unflavored Egg White Protein pouches that did not reveal the presence of milk instead of packages of Unflavored Whey Protein Isolate packages. Investigation revealed a temporary breakdown in the manufacturer’s label control policies.

Affected product was distributed through retail outlets in the states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Kentucky, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia. See table below for specific product information.

No illness has been reported in connection with this recall. The company is requesting the return of all affected product. Consumers who purchased recalled product should return to the place of purchase for a full refund. This lousy cover but it's why we had to do it they had only three dispensers in all of Florida and hardly any other dealers are only two or three more I told them about five or six and that was it and they're small I mean probably a thousand cars and it didn't take off so the people got discouraged and the real reason it didn't take off is they just didn't put effort into it I'm so seldom then they stopped it didn't get any better so they just local sales guy we're getting huge very fast we're selling more cars than we thought possibly ever sell the auto makers are thanking us because we're putting in huge orders for auto parts huge I get it orders I mean gigantic orders for one dealership alone up in the Michigan area we ordered today 500,000 motors for Ford and their motors and their plan and they can only produce 100,000 a day so we're going to need more of these motors and they're pumping them out as fast as they can now get three shifts on and they're approaching a million so it's working in the sending them to us and we're installing them and putting these cars back on the road and they're appreciative because the plants are failing it is a huge huge business used cars it takes less time to fix something you think people make more money and the cars have more life in them a lot of them don't have all these doodads it's a new ones do they don't even hates like this fuses it cost like 300 bucks they're ridiculous can't use those it's a few cars that don't and that's probably one could end up making because it's logical and that's what would sell so we probably will start producing the vehicles that don't have the nonsense in them and he's asking us to go and find out what those are and to set up a system to make them if we have to.

You say the auto bakers are just about to fail and they are because they're looking at us as the sole business they have it's kind of sad and bad it's very bad they almost just stopped in the factories so max don't get it but we do you have to have some businesses that are yours and people will notice what you do and yes we think so because you'll stop giving the jobs out after the Indians die and that's what happens so to do a control manner so they have jobs for a while and we're buying tons and tons of motors ridiculous numbers and they're making these cars that don't have all these problems and you feel better about their jobs cuz they should be doing that is it going to have to ask their Corky's because they're the ones against it

We sold so many used cars today it's not even funny we had a huge huge shipment of them today to foreign countries and what they're asking for seconds and cars that are no good or the cars that we consider to be no good cuz he isn't for parts to put other cars back on the road and we decided something we need Gu and Goddess Wife to be doing that and he's doing it as well and he's asking for certain models and we're sending them and his Chevy and Ford and other plants that are there European plants they're not really his are making these models of cars that don't fail in every burp. Tons of people are buying them and tons of people buying hours it's turned out to be a normal car eventually once we get this concept of regular automakers making cars that don't burp and moments notice.

Giant sales in them by the automakers cuz they're less expensive they're not cheap like ours with the less expensive it cost a third of regular new car but still a lot of money but comparison

We use it too this attitude here is horrible how to treat him is terrible all these used cars are coming out for sale in his name with our branding and we have a service station that's huge tons of people come here eventually he's going to end up here because there's so many used cars that are for sale because of him cuz he said start saving them we have we have other sources now well so he was doing getting iron and we have a huge backlog of vehicles it needs to be prepared we need tons of mechanics even backyard mechanics like our son here can do tons of the work and if what you do is what you can and then you hand it off to a engine mechanic or something like that he would trade real quick few days just having a several motor or two they do have that too rebuilds

Airport Sleep Pods Are Providing a Respite for Stranded Passengers

For decades, a thunderstorm or missed connection meant you might have to sleep in the airport, leaving frustrated travelers with a truly tired dilemma: Is the boarding gate chair-curl worth a try, or is it better just to grab some floor?

Some airports are considering a better way to accommodate unlucky passengers while making some money in the process. At least four companies are angling for space inside terminals for a new generation of sleeping spaces dubbed cabins, capsules, and even pods. One of them, Minute Suites LLC, has retail sleep locations at airports in Atlanta, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Philadelphia, with a Charlotte, N.C., location opening in December. Washington Dulles airport is exploring the concept as well, and aims to have a sleep amenity next year.

Meanwhile, a company dubbed izZzleep opened a sleep capsule warren in the Mexico City airport this summer, with rates from $8 per hour to $34 per night. Yotel Ltd., the London-based mini-hotel operator, operates YotelAir in four European airports, with a Singapore Changi project coming in early 2019. Yotel also hopes to expand into U.S. airports at some point, as does NapCity Americas, which has acquired U.S. rights to Napcabs, a German-based sleep pod company that operates at the Munich airport. As airports are growing and expanding, a lot of them are definitely exploring passenger amenities, said Stephen Rosenfeld, a Florida entrepreneur who formed NapCity Americas in 2014 to operate a version of the “napcabs” found sprinkled across Europe.

And they’re becoming more open to the idea. Yet “rest” as retail has been slow to migrate to airports, despite their decades-old role as host to exhausted air travelers whose plans were derailed by weather, missing flight crews, or malfunctions. Scour some of the world’s key hubs — New York City, Los Angeles, Madrid, Toronto, Zurich — and you’ll find nary a bed available by the hour. The reasons vary, but revenue considerations generally play a large role when it comes to space allotment at major airports. A bar, sit-down restaurant, or McDonald’s will always bring in far more revenue at a busy terminal than an amenity such as a gym or napping pod — and airports generally command a cut of sales.

“One seat in an airport restaurant can generate $20,000 in revenue in a single year,” said Peter Chambers, co-founder of Sleepbox, a Boston-based startup that sells a 45-square-foot cabin for airports, offices, and other locations.

The retail sleep sellers also want to be located inside security checkpoints to help minimize customer hassle. No one wants to deal with long lines or TSA staff more than necessary.

But there are obstacles to the blossoming of this new, personalized hotel industry. Historically, airports have had a symbiotic relationship with nearby lodging that supports crew layovers, convention business — and stranded passengers. Airports may be reluctant to be seen as competing with this ecosystem of accommodations both on the airport grounds and in surrounding areas, many of which have an airport shuttle as a standard feature, said Scott Humphrey, deputy director of the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport.

Most retail sleep operators would also want a longer-term lease commitment from airports to realize a proper return, said Jo Berrington, a vice president at Yotel, where the average YotelAir stay is about seven hours, with a starting price of around 35 euros ($42) for four hours. She said the company’s ideal airport business size is about 60 to 150 cabins. YotelAir, which has outposts in Amsterdam, Paris, and London’s two largest airports, has had discussions with North American airports but no agreements yet, Berrington said.

Minute Suites says its business is consistent, but that it uses dynamic pricing to adjust for periods of low and high demand. The company evaluates airports with an eye toward international flights and heavy connecting traffic. Rates start at about $32 per hour; an overnight stay at the company’s two DFW Airport locations is about $140, roughly $100 less than a room at the airport’s Hyatt Regency near Terminal C.

“Our business model isn’t just based on delays and cancellations,” said Christopher Glass, a vice president with Minute Suites, which was formed by two ophthalmologists from Iowa, including the daughter of the late television psychologist Dr. Joyce Brothers. “Flight crew members hop in and take a nap. Pilots love it.”

At Washington Dulles, the primary international airport for the nation’s capital, the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority issued a call for proposals last month for “a quiet and comfortable place within the airport to sleep, relax, or work while waiting to board a flight” that could be almost 1,300 square feet and available 24 hours per day, year-round. “The atmosphere should be similar to what a traveler would experience in a small hotel room or similar private area,” the airport said in its pitch to potential operators.

A Design Paradigm Taken Directly From the Sarcophagus

Of course, the idea of tight quarters for a quickie nap or short overnight snooze is hardly a new one, with Japan being the pioneer in the concept of sleep capsules aimed at densely packed urban areas, clubbing locales, and railway stations. In many Asian versions, the sleep pod is the hotel stripped to its basic essential—a mattress and little else—with a design paradigm taken directly from the sarcophagus.

Most of the current designs being pitched to U.S. airports are dramatically larger. “We have a very Americanized model of what there is available overseas,” Glass said. “We as Americans love our space.” The company is planning to double the number of locations by the end of next year but won’t reveal its likely next venues.

Chambers says U.S. airports are rapidly shifting their focus from increasing “dwell time,” or the interval travelers choose to spend in an airport shopping or drinking, to “enhancing” that time. The right mix of amenities, including a clean, quiet, secluded place to rest, is likely to make travelers choose one airport over another when they connect.

“I think that’s why we’re seeing a lot of major airports finding space for all these units,” he said.

The general business model is one of high automation, with a vending-machine approach. Human employees are on duty to clean the cabins once they’re vacated, and at Washington Dulles, officials want the attendant to provide security, too. It was unclear whether such pods would be restricted to one person at a time, though YotelAir models can accommodate families.

These pods aren’t just horizontal rubber rooms: They have televisions, Wi-Fi, mobile phone chargers, and plugs. Minute Suites sells almost 150 items to go with your nap, such as toothbrushes — but many do not. The idea isn’t to replicate a hotel, especially as low overhead is critical to success.

“I don’t claim to be a hotel, I don’t want to be a hotel,” said Rosenfeld, who is working to sign NapCity’s first lease. “We’re here to help the public.” The company will charge $45 for one hour, the minimum stay, and then $20 for every subsequent 30-minute period in its cabin.

“It’s a high-margin business. … The difference is we do need staff,” he said, calling the airport sleep cabin a “micro-luxury, a price that anyone basically can afford.”

After he tackles the airport business, Rosenfeld sees a future home for nap cabins that could be even more lucrative — hospitals.
