Does the World Still Want Superman?
That is a question James Gunn grapples with in the first trailer for his film, which has the pressure of launching a universe and establishing what the hero means for today's world.https://piclinks.in/viewDL?id=469743
Tumblr media
Things are looking up indeed! After a week of build-up, the highly anticipated trailer for James Gunn’s Superman finally arrived, and all eyes are on the sky. As the first live-action installment of the DCU, a lot is riding on Superman. Not only is an entire cinematic universe dependent on the success of this film, but Gunn must also cut through the world’s cynicism and deliver a take on the character whose cinematic depiction, for many audiences, hasn’t resonated since 1978.https://piclinks.in/viewDL?id=469743
But the teaser trailer makes it clear that Superman ’25 is not Superman ’78. Composer John Murphy’s guitar riff on John Williams’ classic theme breathes new life into Superman as a hero and symbol, suggesting that Superman, while hanging onto the core themes associated with the character, is a living and evolving concept, an electric current through the world.https://piclinks.in/viewDL?id=469743

What is Facial Recognition System?
Face recognition system is an impeccable technique to measure and match the unique characteristics extracted from an image with the previously stored data to identify and authenticate the credibility of an individual.
Applications of Face Recognition System
Areas of application ● Public security system ● Developing more specific business applications ● Airport security system ● Financial services ● Law enforcement ● Driver’s Licenses and Passport ● Working staff surveillance system ● Access control system ● Banking environment application ● Shopping mall customer analysis
The Face Recognition System is indeed a boon to provide and assure the safety of access to any kind of dataset. The Face recognition technology can be used for numerous purposes such as implementing access control in areas that could be prone to risks, residential areas for preventing the chances of theft cases, and much more.
In the past few years, the face recognition system has been used primarily by the Law Enforcement Agencies as a crime fighting tool, often to capture the faces of random people in crowds. Also, some government agencies have been using the face recognition systems to eliminate fraud voting and ensure security.
However, in the current era whereby these systems are being used in many areas of applications since the systems become less expensive.
Face Recognition System can be implemented across a wide spectrum of applications that are discussed below:
1. Preventing fraudulent transactions: Face recognition promises to reinforce security in significant ways such as securing ATM transactions and check-cashing operations. The system is capable of instantly verifying the customer’s face. Just when the customer accords, the ATM kiosk captures a digital image of the person doing the transaction. This helps in preventing customers from fraudulent transactions since the system generates a faceprint of the photograph to eliminate identity theft. By using the face recognition system, one doesn’t need to keep a picture ID or a PIN, it simply takes a picture and verifies a customer’s identity.
2. Residential Security: Alert homeowners about approaching the person.
3. Attendance and tracking information of the staff: For many entrepreneurs, time attendance and tracking are very important factors. No doubt, you want to avoid time card fraud and you may need to carefully track employees and visitors for security purposes.
4. The world of Games: The face recognition system has come up with a whole new dimension in the world of gaming. The Kinect motion gaming system developed by Microsoft has given the Xbox 360 a whole new lease of life with its advanced motion sensing capabilities and opened up gaming to the audiences by completely doing away with hardware controllers.
Meanwhile, Viewdle has recently launched a game in which it undergoes a process to identify whether the user is a human being or a robot or a vampire using face recognition system, setting the stage for a battle between the two species.
5. Automated tagging facility: The most famous social networking site Facebook facilitates automatic tagging of the people in a picture with the help of facial recognition software. Here’s a detail of how facial recognition works in Facebook- Each time an individual is tagged in a picture, the software application stores information about that individual’s facial characteristics. When the collected data becomes sufficient to recognize an individual, the face recognition system uses that data to recognize the same face in different pictures and can also suggest their names for tagging that person in a picture you’re going to post.
Facial Recognition is a brilliant and powerful tool that is slowly making its way in the world of technology. Although fingerprint biometrics is a popular biometric method, facial biometric is also rapidly becoming a preferred choice as well in the era of tech services. Biometric technology has been greatly ameliorating since the past few years, therefore making facial solutions more infallible than ever. Biometric imaging has made itself an excellent and credible choice for various security software.
PROS and CONS of Facial Recognition System
Benefits of using a Face Recognition System
1. Betterment in Security – The face recognition system provides time attendance tracking which helps you not only in tracking the employees of the organization but the visitors as well along with ensured security. In fact, the incoming visitors can be added to the system and tracked throughout the premises. Anyone whose information is not stored in the system will not be allowed to gain access.
2. Automated Facial System – One of the most attractive and reliable reasons behind implementing Facial systems is that these biometric systems are automated i.e they don’t necessarily need someone to operate or monitor them 24*7. Thus it becomes easy to keep the system working for all day long without any need for personnel to operate the system and look after its performance.
3. Ease of Integrating with the existing software – Integrated Biometric face recognition systems are very easy to program into your work environment and the computer systems in your companies. They can easily work with existing software that you have been using in your company.
4. Successful performance – Facial recognition technology has a huge success rate in today’s era where technology has proved to be the soul of the market mainly with the emergence of 3D face recognition technologies. It is almost impossible to misguide the system about the information that is being stored, with this it can be assured that the security system that will be implemented will be successful in maintaining the tracking time and attendance with safety.
Limitations of Face Recognition System
1. Picture Quality – Picture quality is a major factor to see how well facial-recognition algorithms work. The picture quality of the scanning video is not as good as compared to that of a digital camera. Low-quality pictures in the facial database can lead to a situation whereby an individual could be mistaken for another by the facial recognition software.
2. Changes in Appearance of an individual – There are chances that a person might look different from the picture that has been previously stored in the facial database to identify her/him uniquely. Using infrared or augment facial recognition software does not necessarily eliminate the identification issues that might be created due to a slight or significant change in the appearance of an individual. Changes such as getting a haircut cut or wearing a scarf or veil or sunglasses while facing the camera probably affect the efficiency of the software to identify an individual by comparing the live capture with the stored picture in the facial database. Facial recognition software doesn’t work well in such conditions because these all things partially obscure the face of the individual.
3. The requirement of high-quality equipment/tools: Implementing/ installing facial recognition system in an organization requires massive investment to be done to install cameras that can capture high-quality images for maintaining a database that contains information about an individual as digital images. In a similar way, the software infrastructure must be capable of processing the image instantly and recognizing an individual by measuring and matching their unique facial characteristics. If it is not so then this might lead to waiting time that is not really acceptable in today’s time where everything has to be speedy and instant.
SUMMARY
The Facial Recognition System (face recognition system) is a computer application developed to facilitate identification or verification of an individual from a digital image or a video by measuring and matching the unique facial features with the previously stored image in the database.

All that we contemplate the Moto X Still no official declarations, yet bits of gossip about the assumed superphone won't stop.
We haven't heard much from Motorola this year past the gossipy tidbits encompassing its prospective "superphone," the Moto X. The organization still can't seem to report anything past a say of the telephone at the All Things Digital D11 meeting. In case you're passing by the measure of bits of gossip that have flowed, in any case, you'd imagine that Motorola as of now has a hit staring its in the face.
Toward the end of last year, we discovered that Motorola would have been working close by Google to make another Android cell phone. We didn't know much about it other than the way that Google was putting resources into a group and the innovation to accomplish something other than what's expected. On account of the inquiry mammoth's association, that persuaded awesome things were ahead.
As specified, Dennis Woodside, CEO of Motorola, strolled onto the D11 gathering stage back in May with the indicated "superphone" in his pocket and declined to take it out. Woodside made awesome assertions that the telephone was genuine and that we'd be seeing it in October.
Things aren't ruddy for Motorola of late. After various failures, deals haven't been what they ought to be. Yet, the organization has some expectation now that it's in Google's grasp. "I sat down with [Google CEO] Larry Page about what we will do," Woodside said. "We will take it back to the underlying foundations of development and fabricate gadgets that can possibly change individuals' lives."
So what is this telephone Motorola says will change our lives? How about we ask the talk process.
Better camera, better screen, better everything—perhaps
Back in December, the Wall Street Journal revealed that the X telephone was in progress. At the time, theory indicated Motorola expanding the product and concentrating on putting more refined components into the X telephone, similar to a superior camera and a superior screen. Motorola authoritatively obtained an organization called Viewdle, which concentrated on imaging and motion acknowledgment, and purportedly explored different avenues regarding bendable screens and an artistic frame so that the handset would be more sturdy and stress safe. This thought appeared to be fortified by bits of gossip that the telephone would have a 4.8-inch OLED sapphire screen, which is clearly three times harder to split than a show made of Gorilla Glass.
Next came discussion without bounds telephone's execution. The Moto X, already alluded to as the "X telephone," would incorporate a quad-center Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC with a 4,000 mAh battery pack and a water-confirmation skeleton. A current FCC documenting demonstrated that the model number was XT1058, which many accepted was the "XFon," yet there were no real details. In any case, this was all attached to a FCC posting demonstrating that the telephone included Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, and 802.11ac, and that it upheld AT&T's LTE groups. Benchmarks later surfaced that nitty gritty a double card Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with 1.7GHz and a 720p show—particulars that didn't coordinate with preparatory talk.
Streak forward to this week. The gossipy tidbits now say that Motorola documented again with the FCC, this time for a telephone that is being conveyed through US Cellular (the country's fifth biggest transporter). The recording was for model number XT1055, which varies from the past FCC documenting. Many are currently recommending that we're quite store for a mid-run telephone.
Woodside made remarks at the D11 meeting about Motorola relaunching its whole item lineup, so it's conceivable that the diverse FCC filings are a variety of handsets that will supplant the ones that are at present accessible. We may in any case observe a "superphone" at last, trailed by a group of mid-range telephones.
Sensors that sense everything
In front of an audience at D11, Woodside point by point a portion of the Moto X's implied highlights, including the utilization of low-power sensors that won't deplete the telephone's battery. The telephone will possibly utilize a couple of processors that empower "dependably on" sensors to remain relevantly mindful of what's happening around its client (it's misty if those processors will be fabricated by Qualcomm. Once more, these are bits of gossip—the sky is the limit). With this assumed capacity, the telephone will obviously respond diversely to different utilize cases. In case you're driving, for example, it won't enable you to raise the content informing application. Or, on the other hand on the off chance that you have to snap a photograph, it will instantly dispatch the camera application when you haul it out of your pocket.
Manufactured intense in Texas
The Moto X cell phone will be implicit another office outside of Fort Worth, Texas. The building was initially composed and worked by Nokia in the 1990s to make include telephones. Since the plant has this history of assembling telephones, it will be a straightforward move for Motorola to set up shop.
The Moto X will be the main organization cell phone to be made in the US, however it's simply being collected stateside on the grounds that its segments will in any case originated from worldwide providers. "It's clearly our real market, so for us, having fabricating here gets us considerably nearer to our key clients and accomplices and also our end clients," Motorola representative Will Moss told the AP. "It makes for much less fatty, more productive operations."
This is the thing that it may resemble
TechCrunch announced a while back that representations of another Motorola handset had surfaced. It's misty if those pictures were identified with the Moto X. These representations did however coordinate a few breaks from a couple of months prior, ones that guaranteed the back of the telephone would utilize a logo that served as a touch-touchy catch for propelling charges on-screen. That is unquestionably a probability considering that the patent Google petitioned for recently centered around posterior controls.
Could this be the telephone that Woodside had in his pocket? Lamentably, we won't discover until its claimed discharge in the not so distant future. For the present, we'll keep our eyes on the talk process for stimulation—and infrequent pieces of potential data.

Facial Recognition Goes Mainstream
Facial recognition applications are no longer just for the military and law enforcement to identify hostiles or criminals, but rather is going mainstream.
The Wall Street Journal (5 August 2011) reports from the bar scene to the television and from vampire gaming to celebrity match-ups, facial recognition software is now part of our everyday technology mix.
Facial recognition is "at a tipping point where some of these face-recognition technologies are not just gimicks, but are becoming useful." Moreover, the technology has become quite good with "frontal face images, the error rate of rejecting a legitimate claim--when the face image and name match-decreased to 0.29% in 2010 from a rate of 79% in 1993."
So here are some examples of how facial recognition is being used:
- SceneTap: Free app for iPhone and Droid "displays real time stats on the local bar scene...shows the number of people at the bar, the male-to-female ratio, and the average age of the patron"--all from facial recognition--this is not bad except for the bartender on a slow night.
- TVs with Viewdle: TV set-top boxes with facial recongition can "identify who is sitting in front of the TV then customize programming accordingly...displaying most recently watched or recorded shows"--can anyone say America's Got Talent!
- Third Eye: Facebook game that based on facial recognition identifies people as either vampires or slayers. Even without the app, I'd bet I'm one of the slayers :-)
- FaceR Celebrity: This iPhone app uses a picture and facial recognition software to determine which celebrities you most closely resemble. For me, it's Sylvester Stallone, all the way--I'm sure of it.
A lot of people are concerned about the privacy implications of facial recognition--collecting and storing images of faces and using it for surveillance and tracking and getting into your business...like knowing what bars or whereever else you are going to.
But apps like SceneTap say they don't collect personal information, nobody sees the video feed, and they don't match the images to photos on the web or Facebook to identify exactly who is entering the bar. This is sounding a little like TSA and the body imaging scanners they use--i.e. don't worry nobody sees your privates! :-)
But perhaps, whether or not they do or don't isn't the point, they could and that is a privacy concern.
Facial recognition technology, even though it is used in gaming, it is not kid's play, and it should be regulated to avoid a society where Internet "big brother" has virtually unlimited capability to track and match each and every facial you!

Google buying facial recognition firm - Viewdle
The rumors have been confirmed, Google's Motorola Mobility is indeed acquiring the facial recognition technology company Viewdle.
"Motorola Mobility today announced that it has acquired Viewdle, a leading imaging & gesture recognition company," a Motorola spokesperson told CNET today. "Motorola and Viewdle have an existing commercial agreement and have been collaborating for some time. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed."
CNET reported on Monday that Google was about to close a deal to buy Viewdle, which is a Ukrainian maker of facial recognition technology that automatically tags photos. Apparently the acquisition had been in the works for more than a year. According to a source, Motorola was already in talks with Viewdle when Google acquired it last year.
It makes sense that Google was looking to get its hands on Viewdle -- its technology provides a way for users of Google+, Android, Picasa, and other services on a range of devices to easily (even, automatically) tag photos of friends.
Facebook also has made a play in this space, earlier this year buying Face.com along with its Photo Tagger auto-tagging app.
The final purchase price is not yet known, but some estimates say it is toward the high end of a $30 million to $45 million range.

This is exciting. About 18 months ago a colleague and I were looking into better ways to index video content and during that process we came across many companies that were focused on integrating audio into the metadata build and indexing process to improve searches. However, there were a few companies focused of visual indexing of content.  Today we see the tremendous advertising market opportunity for such services (this goes way beyond standard AR - visual based AR (Qualcomm) is another story; and a topic for another post).
Imagine an advertisement for a movie on a static billboard, one-sheet poster, or an ad on the side of public transport vehicle. Alone the ad copy is probably largely lost on most casual observers. But what if instead when you point your mobile device's camera at the picture it were to come alive with a wealth of information, content, and/or offering? What if a video or audio trailer to the movie began to play? What if you also learned which of your friends were following the film? What if you were offered a promotion for providing your email address to receive future updates? What if, based on your location, you were offered the option to buy tickets? Better yet, the feature had NFC technology baked in so you could make the purchase on the fly?
Fantasy? No, reality. This is the new world we live in. It is an exciting time and the example I provided above is just the tip of the iceberg.
