Timeloop!Vodka (First Loop)(Part 4)
He hadn't been to his childhood home since he was arrested at 19. It wasn't much different from what he remembered. The same wooden floors that made way too much noise at night and the same grey walls that had tons of photos of his brothers hung on them. None of him though, Kenji never liked acknowledging that they were related. Now he was an adult, this place felt less like a home and more like a reminder that his oldest brother never wanted him around. Unfortunately, since he was in the body of a teenager now, he had to start living there again, hiding in hotels and warehouses could only last so long before the police started trying to bait him out of his hiding spots. 'Some things never change' he smiled at the thought. "Saburo." His oldest brother greeted him reluctantly. It was a pretty cold reception all things considered. "Kenji." He said back, trying to hide his anger. He was starting to consider running back to whatever hotel had the least night shift workers. Before he could consider it any further, Kai put a hand on his shoulder. "Kenji! How was your match?" Kai excitedly asked. He had been Kenji's favorite apart from his twin brother Ichiro. Always thought he could play peacekeeper, but all he really did was give excuses for Kenji. Saburo glanced at the door, he wanted to leave. Anywhere but here would be great. "It was great, the bastard didn't see my hits coming!" Kenji was always repeating the stories of his victories inside the ring. He mostly fought in America, apparently this country was too limiting for him. He secretly wished Kenji would stay there forever. Kai laughed politely while Ichiro rolled his eyes. Ichiro at least shared his disdain for Kenji, unfortunately for very different reasons. Ichiro was reading a legal textbook, probably wishing he hadn't left his apartment for this, he was probably here only to appease Kai's need for the whole family to be here to welcome Kenji back or whatever. He moved to the dining table, probably hoping to study law in peace. Saburo decided to join him and sit on the opposite end of the table. He wanted to be as far away from Kenji as possible. "Hello Saburo." Ichiro's tone was cold but the smile on his face told a different story. At least someone was happy to see him. "Hey Ichiro, what case are you reading about?" Hopefully that was the right thing to say, he was already feeling awkward. Ichiro gave a surprised smile. Oh yeah, he had never been interested in learning or anything remotely academic when he was younger. Well, that was all about to change. Unless he had to do math, then he would probably die on the spot. This was probably why Vermouth made fun of him. "Well, if you really want to know, I'm not reading about one specific case right now, but I'm reading about insurance law, specifically the law on insurance payouts after an earthquake." Ichiro seemed happy to keep talking. A lot of the terms confused him, but he listened anyway. Similar to how Gin would rant at him for hours about whatever mission they had that day, usually if it involved a murder the rant would be pretty short. He smiled fondly at the memory before quickly pushing the thought away. He was supposed to follow the law this time, he reminded himself. No more crime. Considering he had a fake ID though, he couldn't completely avoid it.
"Don't you have homework Saburo?" He looked at his math homework in despair. Ichiro just had to remind him that it existed, didn't he? "Don't remind me." He knew he'd have to do this homework if he wanted to graduate high school. He had just barely made it through the skin of his teeth last time. "I don't even know what these symbols are..." he complained sarcastically. Ichiro smirked. "I guess you have to find out." He quipped as he got out an even larger law textbook. Saburo knew he'd rather read that textbook than do his math homework. Even though he hated reading at least it would be more useful to know than algebra.
