I wish I could think of a better way to word this but Harry Kim can be such a little shit (meant affectionately) when he wants to be?!

The fact that we only see Tuvok simulate killing one of his co-workers is a testament to his endurance.

I love Janeway in her Hillary Clinton Boss Woman mid 90s white suit.
Tumblr media
Granted, it's not as good as her Dietrich replica, but I still just love this suit and the way she walks in it.

Voyager rewatch s7 ep10: Shattered
I love this one!! After the past few eps, this one is like water after a drought. It has all of the things I love: character driven dialogue, a time travel plot, actual continuity from previous episodes, literary references- heck, even Seska showing up is kind of refreshing again after all this time. And it's actually fun! I had so much fun watching this!
It's also a feast for the J/C shippers, it's literally an entire episode of Janeway and Chakotay flirting. Yes, there is a plot- Voyager runs into an anomaly that splits the ship into different time frames, and only Chakotay is able to pass through them to bring them back into synch- but the flirty banter is front and center the entire time.
Naturally, when Chakotay gets sent back to Voyager's past, he enlists the help of Captain Janeway, who doesn't know him yet, but is nonetheless strangely drawn to this mysterious Maquis captain who claims he knows her. (How is this not a romance novel plot?? This is so a romance novel plot!) They're forced to work together to save the ship, and Chakotay has to fill her in on what's happened to the ship in each of the timeframes without breaking the temporal Prime Directive by giving away too much. Janeway is understandably horrified by all the crazy stuff Voyager goes through in the Delta Quadrant, and wants to change history to avoid it, but Chakotay convinces her how great Voyager's journey through the Delta Quadrant actually is, because the crew becomes like a family. Janeway doesn't seem entirely convinced, but she's clearly got it bad for mysterious future Chakotay, despite still being very engaged to Mark at that point.
I'd like to say she's convinced that history shouldn't be changed because of all the good Voyager does in the future, but really, I think it's because she's just hoping she and Chakotay will get to bang in the future, lmao. I mean, she literally asks him if they did! That's what she's interested in?? Not even if like, the ship got home okay?? Just how far their relationship went?? Captain!! Ma'am!!! You are illegal levels of horny for your first officer!! But to be fair, he's encouraging her- they do nothing but flirt, and make eyes at each other, and share little smiles the whole time, and it's like ohmygod, how can they not be canon?? J/C shippers, you are gods strongest warriors, because I didn't even really get invested in them until Prodigy, but y'all have been sailing this ship for almost thirty years- how do you survive?? I'm not even that into them, and yet I'm sitting here like, "Dammit, just let them kiss!!!" This episode is insane!!
Tumblr media
But anyway, apart from the shippyness, there's a lot of other good stuff here- it's like a nostalgic trip back through past Voyager eps.
We get an alternate timeline Tuvok death scene, with Janeway at his side. Even though I know it'll be retconned by the end of the ep, I still get a little misty over it. Their friendship is everything!! There's also a nice moment where Chakotay asks past Maquis B'Elanna to trust him when he shows up with Janeway, which she does. It's a nice little nod to the strength of their friendship, which had pretty much been entirely forgotten by the writers by this point in the show.
We also get a bit of Dr. Chaotica silliness when they have to go through the holodeck to get to an access panel (though why there's an access panel in the holodeck, idk! Just gonna go with it cause the vibes are fun!)
There's some cute stuff with Naomi and Icheb playing a board game in the beginning of the ep, which gets a nice callback later when we meet grown up versions of them in one of the future time frames.
Then they have to defeat Seska again in one of the timelines- I think she might be the dead character who makes the most appearances after their death, lol. She's a considerably better villain on her own than being second fiddle to an idiot like Cullah, so her appearance here works well. We get a delightful scene of all the crewmembers from various timeframes teaming up to retake engineering from her, plus an inspiring speech from Janeway.
And though Chakotay declares in this ep that he and Janeway always stay just friends, the ep still ends with them having yet another one of their romantic dinners in her quarters, complete with him bringing a bottle of alcohol, so it seems like maybe they won't be 'just friends' forever. While I would've preferred if they'd have actually talked more directly about their feelings, or discussed how they arrived at their weird situationship arrangement, there's no way anyone could deny they have romantic feelings going on after this one. (Even though the writers sure tried to sweep that under the rug later. But I'm trying to block out the insane writing choices that happen later in the season for the sake of my peace and sanity. I'll cross that godforsaken bridge when I come to it, and just focus on the good stuff while I'm here.) It ends with the two of them being all cute and flirty, and I don't think anyone could fail to like this ep. Everything about it is just *chef's kiss*
Tl;dr: A smart and fun time travel story, which takes time to explore Janeway and Chakotay's characters and relationship in between saving the ship from a cool time anomaly. The kind of episode that has me happily twirling my hair and kicking my feet the entire time I watch it. Good stuff!

Everyone on Tumblr is "Threshold this, Threshold that", but they are neglecting another weird ass Star Trek episode: Sub Rosa. We focus on Janeway/Paris and their salamander sex, but we completely ignore the one episode that Beverly Crusher fucks a ghost
Happy Sub Rosa day!

So I just watched Retrospect (star trek voyager S04E17) and my devil what the hell was that?
I get that they were trying to make a "wrongful conviction" episode and good for them that's an interesting theme
BUT MY BROTHER IN WHAT EVER YOU BELIEVE IN WHO THE FUCK THOUGHT THAT IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO MAKE A WRONGFUL CONVICTION EPISODE WHERE THE CRIME WAS BASICALLY SEXUAL ASSAULT? (yes I know its not actually SA but it's a pretty obvious analog, shut up!)
I'm pretty sure they wanted the message of the episode to be "don't make rush judgments just because you don't like someone" or something like that but the only thing I got was "don't believe victims, they might have hallucinated the whole thing (or worse lied)"
Huge miss this one. One of the worse episodes of Voyager of the whole franchise.

god it always catches me off guard when i get to that one episode of voyager where they’re like “sometimes women get confused about their trauma and accuse men of rape but everyone should be more considerate of how this affects the men in question” wow really just slipped that one in there huh

doing a Voyager rewatch, on s2e4 where the ship gets stuck in a cloud of worm-like critters floating in space.
all of a sudden there’s a big one, the crew figures the creatures are mating, and every attempt to get away from the swarm or reciprocate the big one’s aggression to get it to back off fails.
then Chakotay goes “let’s try subbing” and it WORKS
incredible television show somehow making a whole episode about mating and procreation thoroughly and deeply un-sexy 10/10 no notes

Voyager rewatch s7 ep17: Human Error
Ughhh what a godawful mess this ep is. I don't even know where to begin with all the things wrong with it, but here goes:
For starters, Seven doesn't need another romance plot. They tried and failed with that stupid 'My Fair Lady' episode, and it just doesn't fit her character. Plus, there's a lot of way more interesting things to explore with her than some random nonsensical hetero romance shoehorned in at the last minute, when we should be at a point in the series where established relationships should be the focus, because, y'know, the show is ending soon.
To have Seven 'practicing relationships' on the holodeck is also an incredibly nonsensical choice for the last season- she has real friendships with real people on the ship at this point, she shouldn't have to 'practice' with fake people anymore, jfc, she's way past that. Choosing to recreate people she knows on the holodeck is weird and gross too- they're her friends that she knows and lives with and talks to every day, to choose one of them at random to just have fake holodeck sexytimes with is all kinds of creepy and not okay.
Since this was written in a time before unauthorized recreation of people's likenesses and voices by ai was a real life issue, I guess I can kinda understand why they writers wouldn't have considered the legal ramifications of that, and wouldn't have considered that in the future there would be laws against nonconsensual use of people's likenesses. But even so, just on a human level, I don't get how they could fail to find the entire concept of creating basically a sex doll version of one of your coworkers on the holodeck deeply disturbing and wrong. It should absolutely be illegal, but even if weren't, it's still demeaning and violating and horrible. Seven has learned enough about humanity by this point to know that you shouldn't do that to someone.
And why they'd have her choose Chakotay, of all people, I have absolutely no goddamn clue. They had that whole episode of her trying to find a 'compatible' crewman on the ship before, and Chakotay's name didn't even come up. They have very little in common, no romantic chemistry whatsoever, and Chakotay has long been established to have an unofficial relationship with Captain Janeway for pretty much the entire series. The flirting and pining between Janeway and Chakotay has been there from the beginning and only gets more pronounced as time goes on, to the point that the entire crew has to know about it, even Seven. They literally have romantic candlelit dinners in Janeway's quarters multiple times a week- you gotta believe the crew would be pointing them out to Seven like 'yeah, they say they're not a couple, but that's couple behavior, actually'. Plus, there's something horribly misogynist about some male writer deciding that the younger blonde woman should want to 'steal' the older lead female character's man.
But aside from the terrible writing choices, the scenes of Seven and holo!Chakotay together are just deeply uncomfortable to watch. They're so forced, and so cheesy, the sexual innuendo is so heavy handed, and there's just zero chemistry between them. Idk how anybody could watch this without throwing up in their mouth a little, it's just so bad.
But the cherry on top of this insulting garbage sundae is the idea that Seven's cortical node would overload from 'too much strong emotions' after having a spat with her fictional holo!Chaktotay, when Seven has clearly been through WAY more emotionally wrenching things than that. Are they seriously expecting us to believe that she had a stronger emotional response to having a disagreement with a holodeck character than, say, the time her adopted son Icheb insisted on risking his life to save her when she was dying??? REALLY?! Or stronger than the many times when Captain Janeway showed her compassion and fought for her even when she didn't feel like she deserved it??? REALLY?! Are they fucking kidding?! That's such an insult to her character and all the growth she's had, and all the realtionships she's built over the years. Not to mention insulting to the audience who've been invested in these characters. The idea that heteronormative romance is the end-all be-all of human relationships is clueless and reductive to begin with, and this wasn't even a real relationship with a real person! It was a creepy holodeck sex doll! WTF?!?!
And the fact that the Doctor condones Seven's unauthorized, non-consensual use of Chakotay's image when she tells him about it is worse still- but considering the episode where the Doctor uses the crew's images on the holodeck without their consent is still upcoming, I guess it's sadly indicative of his total lack of moral compass on that issue.
This episode was such a waste- even the one nice scene of B'Elanna's baby shower, where all the characters got to have fun moments and be like a family, was cancelled out, because it was also just a holodeck simulation. Why the hell didn't we get to see the real one? The audience deserves to see the important life events of the characters we've followed for years, we deserve to get to be part of their community on the ship we've come to love- to cheat us out of those moments, which are the backbone of the show- in favor of ridiculous, empty garbage like this episode is worse than lazy, it's insulting. There is absolutely nothing redeeming about this episode whatsoever, and I know I'm not the only one who wishes it didn't exist.
Tl;dr: One of the worst written, most out of character episodes in the whole series, that tried it's best to tear down Seven's character as horribly as it could. Impossible to watch without cringing.

Threshold: live vicariously through me
Neelix, be loathed or beloved cook depending who you ask solves an engineering problem that two engineers and cocky flyboy with daddy issues can’t fix
Successful simulation
Great idea! Give the cocky flyboy pilot an ego boost that he very much doesn’t need by calling saying he’ll be a pioneer like Neil Armstrong or Zephram Cochrane! I don’t foresee that being an issue
It is an issue in the next scene
Cocky flyboy pilot argues with captain about going on the live test. L+Daddy issues+ratio. This scene exists for the sole purpose of telling us Tom has daddy issues and a superiority complex as if we couldn’t already tell
Cocky flyboy exceeds warp 10 on the shuttle they’ve named Cochrane as yet another ego boost to a man who does not need one
Warp ten: achieved. Flyboy: off the long range sensors. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Whoopsies he and the shuttle have materialised on the ship
Sick bay time
My man fucking ascended and existed everywhere and nowhere for a lil bit in an extremely Daniel Jackson From Stargate turn of events
Wow this is a normal episode of voyager so far……. A little goofy, maybe but not terrible
Just kidding he’s having an allergic reaction to water and can no longer breathe oxygen
He’s over sharing about losing his virginity and then randomly screams pepperoni and then demands pizza
Also wants kess to kiss him cuz he thinks he’s gonna die but she can’t breathe the nitrogen air and he dies kissless
KESS KISSES HIS FOREHEAD AFTER HE DIES????????!!?!????!?!!!?
Sike! Once again Inspired by beloved archaeologist, Daniel Jackson, he has come back to life and scared the hologram doctor but he’s losing hair and has another heart
A lower decker is a spy! Subplot that I forgot about
30 seconds of total footage about that so far
Back to Tom Paris Lizard Arc
He’s gross now and he’s snarkier than usual and Is Not Taking This Well and is having a Meltdown™️
Damn he tried to attack the captain and then bounced off the force field like a fly off a windshield
HOLY FUCK HE COUGHED UP HIS OWN TONGUE LMAO
His DNA is just constantly changing on a second by second basis
He’s Enlightened and he MUST leave this ship because “the future is in the past”
They’re gonna shove him in the warp core to fix him (kinda)
THE LIZARD MAN HAS BREACHED CONTAINMENT BITCH!!!!!
He has kidnapped his own captain and is going on a joyride in the shuttle (hehe they’re headed to warp 10 again!!!)
Chakotay is ON THE JOB
The doctor cracked the code: Tom is evolving at rapid speed, proving that salamander is the APEX HUMAN FORM
They’ve located Paris and the captain. They are full salamanders on a jungle planet
awwww cute little baby salamanders!!
and Chakotay LEFT THEM TO FUCKING DIE
Paris and the captain are human again and are now awkwardly talking about their babies
Emotional scene to talk about daddy issues and inadequacies blah blah blah
The end
Final thoughts: I ❤️ salamanders!!!! Also what the fuck!!!!

Random observation:
I am rewatching Voyager right now and I noticed something that took me a little off guard xD
Before watching Voyager I finished my rewatch of DS9 so the series is still fresh on my mind. And in the episode "Fair Trade" I noticed that they just reused the Vorta ears from DS9 for this alien guy in Voyager.
Tumblr media
It was the first thing I noticed when I saw him xD
Now I know that there are lots of props they reused over and over but this was the first time that it immediately caught my eye
