PREMIERE - SIDES - Hands in the Heat (VIDEO)
A transcontinental partnership between Ryan (UK) and Criz (Australia), London’s SIDES introduces us to their latest single “Hands in the Heat”. A summery track with a little bit of quirk on the side, the duo describes the track as analogous to letting 90′s Michael Jackson’s music to warp in the sun. Featuring a G-funk smooth fitted to the gentle terrain and oceanic breeze of Criz’s effortless vocals, its euphoric bliss is juxtaposed by its incongruent shapes of its fun-filled production. Going awry with the heft of its fat, chunky synths and an acidic rasp gnawing away at its a blissful pop existence, SIDES’ strange analogy of “The King of Pop getting” bent out of shape feels ever-so-fitting. With the two growing up in seaside towns in their respective Australia and Britain, "Hands in the Heat” is a longing for summer heatwave nostalgia written when CoVid-19 made beach outings and impossibility.
Carrying a certain summer saudade, you can check out their video for “Hands in the Heat” composed of found-footage and VHS-grain from Walter McConnelly’s 1984 action sports film “Big Wave”:
