Wang Shiyue and Liu Xinyu of China, proving why they are my favorite ice dance team over and over, like look at those lifts and how they told parts of the story they were creating on the ice. Look at how seamlessly together they were. Look at the depth of those knee bends and how their angles just matched and how much control that is taking with how tall he is. Look at how they drew on so many of their iconic movements with the assisted jump. That’s the first time I’ve really felt like someone *got* how to use the new assisted jump as a part of the choreo, not just some weird little tacked on thing. I’m excited for this free dance.

I’m going to have to look at stuff later to figure out the deduction (guessing that a lift was up too long). EDIT: It was indeed for an extended lift.

They know that they still aren’t where they want to be yet, and that they still have a lot of work to go, but the improvement from last event is already there. I really think this program is a great vessel for them, it just is very difficult and nuanced.

I’m not entirely sure what happened in between last season and this season to put them so behind in terms of raw SS (specifically edges) and their Speed, because I remember them having more snap and power. I know they can get there, but hopefully them and the IAM team are getting them on a good track to peak at 4CC and Worlds where they can make a HUGE impact with such an awesome program like this.

Also, MADI HUBBELL IN THE K&C???? Coach is a good look on her.

Yet again another figure skater - Chinese ice dancer Xinyu Liu - has been accused of various s*x related crimes:

Here is a short summary:

Xinyu Liu's Instagram account has been hacked and his name been changed "turning myself in for raping minors". His Instagram account has now been deleted but screenshots have been shared on Weibo (you can find them in @delayed3A (x/twt) account.

Xinyu Liu is accused of:

- using the athlete fund of the Chinese fed to go out and consume drinks with marijuana

- using the fund to ask international students out, treat them to dinner and then sleep with them. Afterwards he ghosted them. He also allegedly took pictures and videos of the girls/women, some of them who are minors, with the alleged intention to blackmail them. The hacker has many screenshots of girls proving his claim.

- one girl being treated so badly by him that she tried to attempt suicide and ended up in hospital. This has been on the Douban news but was taken down due to the pressure of his management.

- Xinyu Liu and his ice dance partner Shiyue Wang allegedly misused the athletes fund for their own entertainment

Shiyue Wang - his ice dance partner - said that they would go against the hackers and have turned this in to the police. Xinyu Liu, who has no access to his accounts on Instagram or Weibo, spoke through Shiyue Wang's account that he had been maliciously attacked and that it's untrue.

Personal note: Here is the thing though that through private DMs part of this accusations that he raped a minor had been shared since September/October 2023 (that's when I heard it). As we see how accusations are handled in IAM (with Nikolaj Sørensen) and the sport in general and how many accusations come to light it's hard to believe all things are false, especially when the poster who hacked the Instagram acc said he has evidence for the crimes and shared some censored "evidence" as well. Survivors don't gain anything with coming forward. The way this came out may have been uncoventional but as a rumor about Xinyu Liu being investigated has been around for a while I have no reason to not side with the survivors.

So my appeal is yet again BELIEVE SURVIVORS!

There are much more ppl accused who are guilty than those that are not. And most cases are never brought to light at all. And the list in this case of the allegations is long. Believe survivors!

I have watched the Finland Grand Prix event and I have A Lot of feelings

I was hugging my knitting and trying not to cry over how good Kevin Aymoz’s skating is and how happy he was about it, and then the commentator said it was based on the Song of Achilles, and also there was a big rainbow flag in the audience, and then he got the bronze medal and was even happier. What is a simple gay to do with all of these emotions

An essential part of ice dance is falling instantly and deeply in love with a team I’ve never seen in my life who have no chance of even getting into the top six. Anyway, Lagouge/Caffa are my new favorites and their Pink program was glorious.

All the others are also my favorites. I just really like ice dance and there were so many good free programs. Orihara/Pirinen did one where a siren attracts a sailor and then they fight and then she kills him! It’s so good! Wang/Liu did Batman. Ice dance is the best sport.

The Gilles/Poirier Evita routine didn’t do it for me at Skate Canada but that has changed, it’s perfect in every way, especially the waltz bit.

Valtter Virtanen getting a personal best when he’s 35 is very good! The fact that Finnish audiences love him so much is also very good!

Ice dancer Liu Xinyu's instagram was hacked, posting images and statements accusing him of the following:

Statuatory rape

Rape of a minor

Taking nude photos of victims for blackmail

Emotional abuse - leading one victim to try and commit suicide

Embezzeling funds (in which Shiyue is also implicated)

Bribing referees

The images in question have all now been taken down from his insta but you can find threads translating/summarising the posts on twitter below the cut, as well as details of a previous allegation of rape of a minor that was supposedly covered up.

I won't link a specific weibo posts because they keep getting taken down but you can find a lot of screenshots of the original instagram posts by searching the tag #多部门已介入核查柳鑫宇自曝事件#

Xinyu hasn't made any statement about the allegations other than himself and Shiyue posting that the account was hacked and that the police have been contacted.

According to weibo various investigations are now taking place.

I really don't know what to say other than I feel sick to my stomach right now.

I am very happy with Wang/Liu’s program and hope that they can hold off some of the teams in the second group. I love their skating so much, and it’s been a weird season for team China getting to places so far. They perform so wonderfully, and I love their lines across the ices and together. Here’s to a really great free dance from them!
