I went to Warwoman Dell with @shelbeanie, and they were rad enough to quickly photoshop some Stans into some of my shots. He was with us in spirit.

A favorite place. We hiked through here many years ago, as we spent a week in the Bartram Trail.

Clayton, GA...Finally
A couple of years ago, we started seeing posts on FB and Instagram from a small business and burgeoning lifestyle brand called Wander North Georgia. They were posting great content about outdoor activities, small towns, restaurants and attractions across the Piedmont Region of Georgia and we were intrigued. Not only is this area our chosen home and stomping grounds, but the focus of the brand is exactly in line with mine and Jenn's interests.
Wander North Georgia is based in Clayton, GA just south of North Carolina. It's an area that we spent some time in a few years back, but before we had any awareness of the town or the brand. Considering the near miss, we knew we'd have to make a pilgrimage eventually. But, life gets in the way and anon, and anon.
Today, we finally made it! And the trip was entirely worth the wait (and the 2 hour drive from home). Check out our notes below to see how we spent the day.
Points of Interest
Apple Maps Guide
Hiking
After a bit of research we settled up on a section of the Bartram Trail in the Chattahoochee National Forest. We considered hitting Blackrock Mountain State Park (and we'll get there some day), but decided instead to hit Becky Branch Falls to Martin Creek Falls.
Tumblr media
After parking in the Warwoman Dell Picnic area, we found the trailhead just a short walk away. To begin, it's a steep and narrow climb up to cross Warwoman Rd. Immediately after starting the main trail, you come to Becky Branch Falls. It's only just a few short minutes from the road and it seems to be a pretty popular place for folks looking for the relaxing sounds of nature and tumbling water, without the hike it typically takes to find such a thing.
Tumblr media
Past Becky Branch Falls, the trail continues on for a couple of miles. Interestingly, most of the hike out is downhill; not sure why my brain insists that a hike should be uphill out and downhill back, but it always messes with my senses when it's the other way around.
Tumblr media
At about 1.5 miles, the trial begins to skirt Martin Creek which is moderately wide, fast and rocky. There's an interesting whirlpool that's been carved into the granite and looks like a great place to catch an ice bath this time of year.
Another .5 miles on, we came to the end of our chosen path: Martin Creek Falls. The falls look to be about 12-15 feet or so, tumbling over moss-covered rocks and settling into a relatively calm and deep pool before moving on down the creek. We were fortunate to spend some quiet and uninterrupted time hanging out in the idyllic spot, letting Archie swim and soaking up the sun and breeze.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'd definitely recommend hitting this trail if you ever have the chance. It did not disappoint. Except for hiking uphill on the way back.
Food
Once back to the car, we were certainly in the mood for some grub. Clayton offers a number of well-reviewed spots, but we're always on the hunt for a big patio and staff that welcomes our adventure companion, Archie.
Tumblr media
To that end, we hit up Universal Joint (U-Joint) for some incredible Brisket Nachos, Flounder Tacos, and a Mushroom Arugula Quesadilla. It could just be that we were trail-famished, but I'm confident that the food would be well worth it for any occasion.

Shopping
Après lunch, we did some light (6 t-shirts!) shopping at our ultimate destination, Wander North Georgia. The store was incredibly cool and there's a lot to be said about how this group of locally-minded small business people are building their dream; you can find more about Wander North Georgia here: https://wandernorthgeorgia.com/our-story/
Tumblr media
There were a number of other stores that, if we'd given ourselves more time, we would have loved to check out. But, with a 2.5 hour drive home, it was time to pack it in.
One last thing...
Of course, I can never pass up an opportunity to eat something sweet. On the way back to the car, I spied a bakery/cafe that surely had something to fill my dessert belly. Thankfully, Clayton Cafe was exactly what I needed. S'mores cookie, Reese's Peanut Butter Cup cookie, a cupcake, and a Caramel Macchiato for Jenn. If you're going to do a thing, I reckon you have to go all the way.

Went to James H. “Sloppy” Floyed State Park the weekend after Warwoman Dell. Lovely spot with a lake, picnic area, and a cool old marble mine! There were lots of hunks of marble all along the trail, and you could see it naturally occurring in the ground in areas where the dirt had washed away. Very nice, kinda chill place!

Hello!
It’s been 84 years since I posted here, but I’d like to get back to using this blog! I have a lot of pics from past hikes that will take some time to get posted, but for now I’m going to post some content from recent hikes.
Unfortunately, I moved recently and Stan was packed up, so these photos will be mostly Stanless, but I hope you’ll enjoy them! The old ones will have some quality Stan content for you to enjoy. 🎱
This photoset comes from Warwoman Dell, in Rabun Co., GA.

The Bartram Trail as it passes through Warwoman Dell.
Almost had a railroad through here. The Civil War stopped that.
