I have been so excited for this part of the fic because both Maeve and Gortash have bought into SOMETHING happening between them, but in different ways and to different degrees and I have songs that kind of encapsulate them.

For Enver, the theme is possession and obsession, a la the song for the last chapter, Gallery Piece by Of Montreal

The lyrics for this are SO PERFECT for this moment because it's about how he wants to own her, pleasure her, claim her publicly and privately, isolate her. I mean, come on:

For him, the verb for love is ownership and I really hope that shined through in the last chapter. He is feeling some feelings for potentially the first time ever and his reaction is to figure out how to mark her (the necklace) and contain her (the bedroom) but also to give her everything she wants (the piano, the books).

Maeve has two things going on that will hopefully be made clear in the next chapter. The first is that she really wants to go all in on Enver, but she knows that she can't. For that, here is some Mitski

The rules are about how they are both just Not Talking About It, about the restrictions she has from her Father, and just this game that neither of them really wants to play but they have to because the first one to flinch knows that they are going to lose somehow.

The next chapter is going to be sad for a few reasons and I really just, it's an interesting experience so far, writing out how much she is finally getting what she wants in her relationship with Bhaal but Enver has made her so HUNGRY for more. She has always been covetous and she has always been punished for it.

The other thing she has going on is her conflict with Bhaal. For that, the song is probably the actual song for the next chapter which is Give It To Me by Miya Folick

She is about to get in Trouble again, not to the degree as Carrot and Stick but this is a pattern for her and Sceleratis is going to try to bring her back in line. From her perspective though, she has been told she is so good and perfect her whole life and then every once in a while, just when she finds something that gives her a spark of joy, she gets slapped down. And it continues from there and its just a perfect song for how she deep down knows that she is his blood and she is a vessel and she is not something that gets to be more than that, but she has been so good! She has been everything and why can't she just have these things she loves, like music and a friend, in this short time she will have before she is fully consumed?
