February is African American History Month here in the United States. It is also Women in Horror Month (WiHM). In 2013, as an Ambassador for Women in Horror Month, the original book 60 Black Women in Horror was born during the intersection of the two. . Over the past five years, the world women writing horror from the African Diaspora has nearly doubled. 100+ Black Women in Horror is a 2018 update, containing 109 biographies. The booklet also includes interviews with seventeen of the women.and an essay on LA Banks and Octavia Butler.
(this took me a while to actually post)

Amusing, and as expected, a few WOKE assholes started attacking Artists in Horror Month, saying we are against women and was created as an attack on WiHM and Women's Month. Excuse? The fact is that originally Artists in Horror Month was in February. WiHM asked me very politely to move it to March so there was no confusion, even though I doubt my little email event would cause any issues with their multilayer event. Also, last year I found out about Women's History Month. I figured it was a non issue given I had been doing Artists in Horror Month for ten years. Of course now I have some woman in a group screaming about how giving artists in horror who are not acknowledged is somehow race, gender, and political hatred. Give me a break.
When I started Artists in Horror Month our community and genre was a mess. You had radical groups attacking and harassing people and trying to run them out for petty reasons like they enjoyed a remake of they didn't know the names of all the horror directors. You had feminist horror fans attack others and posting Nazie symbols and memes on their profiles. You had cliques of filmmakers sabotaging other filmmakers projects and stealing their investors. And the entertainment industry considered horror below porn. Even today with all the progress we've made since 2012 filmmakers still have their films categorized as Thrillers over Horror.
So, with all this I felt putting out a positive vibe might help turn things around. And, I'm sorry but looking at our community today in comparison I see a vast improvement. We are not perfect, but we are doing better and I see Artists in Horror helping to give that nudge in the right direction. But, of course, like everything else WOKE assholes have to see this as a threat. But, really, I should see this as a compliment because I 'm hitting a nerve...Lol!!!

Back to highlight my second choice for #horrorsistersWIHM2021 with the illustrations of @claire.dowling She caught my attention with her piercing image of "Carrie" I find her art to be playful and mischievous. She captures Norman Bates with a wicked twist, unveiling the evil behind character. #horrorart #horrorartst #horrorsisters #WIHM2021 #WIHM #illustrator #digitalartist https://www.instagram.com/p/CLI9I-YFKV2/?igshid=h6fdi4dr7nqf
