i genuinely hate abe & Joan being together and i hate that they ruined joanfk to fuel them being together. Like even in just the arroyo episode, where JFK is Joan's ideal man, like.... abe is not that at all. I actually really loved joanfk together.

also, just in general, I hate abe's character. he's definitely not the worst character on the show, he's just so fucking annoying. and I wish they'd bring ghandi back

See I think tophers definitely obsessed with Abe but I don't think he would admit to himself it's abe he likes. He probably started feeling jealous when Abe mentioned he wanted to get with joan and was like 'uhhh obviously that would mean I would like the heartbroken white woman and not that privileged white male cause that would be against my over performative allyness' and I still think he just uses it to use abe like with the piggyback ride stuff I think topher still wouldn't admit it to himself tho in a 'there is nothing wrong with two heterosexual males holding eachother. And wanting that is completely normal. Being obsessed with a guy is not gay ' way he has twitter comphet

adding onto that toxic topher take, i already said this all on the other ch takes blog but it was in an essay that im sure not many people read, but i say the show swept the blackmail under the rug because they barely focus on it after episode 8. hell even after they address it in the finale its only like 10 seconds of jfk breaking the phone and they dont even say anything about it afterwards. i dont entirely blame the fandom for not really talking about the blackmail because the show itself barely focused on it. even i didnt really think much about the blackmail thing until i thought about it weeks after the finale came out, and it still doesnt really change my opinion on tophabe. no hate to tophabe fans btw i just think this is so interesting

tophabe nation.... LEND ME AN EAR!! i dont mind seeing fluffy tophabe, i dont mind seeing completely toxic tophabe... but do NOT forget how OBSESSED topher is with abe! even if in the show, canonically, topher really does like joan and thats why he did that blackmail, he is still so obsessed with abe to the point where he would fucking drop down chimneys to keep him in check. it's not like HE was gonna ask joan out, cause he's shameless enough that he would've already! and it's not like he's doing it just to spite abe, because he literally rides on his back for no damn good reason

i fucking BET there would be way less topher and tophabe content if people binge watched the whole show instead of watching it every week. my theory is that people would certainly be talking about episode 8 more and dislike topher more because of it. but because we had to wait weeks for episode 8, the blow was softened because there was already so much topher content that it bounced around the fandom and almost sort of ignored topher’s actions, even going as far as to use them as a plot point in tophabe fanfiction. i dont wanna say the fandom is sweeping the blackmail under the rug, but i wanna say the fandom and the show to an extent is sweeping the blackmail under the rug

ok well me personally! i watched the show all at once the day before the final episodes came out, and then i watched those the next day, and i DID ship tophabe! but i think i do see tophabe really differently? so i think u are right, maybe watching the show all at once gives a different perspective on it all
