El primer álbum orquestal de William Youn para Sony Classical, en colaboración con Deutschlandradio Berlin, está dedicado íntegramente al exuberante estilo del París de fin de siglo, con un repertorio excepcional de Reynaldo Hahn, Nadia Boulanger y Gabriel Fauré: una excursión musical a los salones de la Belle Époque llena de redescubrimientos deslumbrantes. Para William Youn, estas obras para piano y orquesta son diálogos y narraciones musicales, conversaciones entre solista y orquesta en las que las melodías deambulan, las voces interiores se hacen audibles y los interlocutores se funden musicalmente. El pianista dice de la música de Hahn: "Para mí, la música de Reynaldo Hahn respira el espíritu de la Belle Époque con su melancolía, ligereza y elegancia. Es como una brisa de finales de verano que refresca y al mismo tiempo nos recuerda el final de una época hermosa".

El compositor grand signeur Gabriel Fauré, de quien se cumplirá el centenario de su muerte en 2024, es la pieza central de esta recopilación. Como maestro de Reynaldo Hahn y mecenas de Nadia Boulanger, dejó su huella en la historia de la música francesa no solo con sus composiciones, sino también con su influencia en sus jóvenes sucesores. Además de su Ballade op. 19, que Franz Liszt calificó de imposible de tocar, y la Fantaisie op. 111 para piano y orquesta, William Youn también ha grabado sus arreglos de la famosa canción de Fauré "Après un rêve".

La "Fantaisie variée" de Nadia Boulanger de 1912 es una grabación en primicia mundial de un tipo muy especial: La obra, que Boulanger escribió para su compañero musical Raoul Pugno y que no se había publicado hasta hace unos años, se ha reeditado recientemente, completada con páginas que faltaban anteriormente. Today's random hyperfixation of the day is determining locations and mathing out how long Maeve and Caleb realistically would've had to drive to get to the senator's estate and back to Los Angeles in season 4 episode 2 - Well Enough Alone. They take off during what appears to be the middle of the night, probably around 10 or 11pm, but it could literally have been anytime from that to roughly 4am honestly.

I'm pretty sure all of the real locations used to film these particular scenes are based in Southern California, but I'm headcanoning that in-universe the Senator's home is located in Northern California, a lot closer to the state capitol in Sacramento.

If Maeve were to drive mainly I-5 Northbound from Los Angeles to Sacramento, they would get there in about 6 to 7 hours, pending traffic and weather conditions and excluding any rest stops or detours used.

I don't think they would've made any rest stops. They were on a tight schedule to try and get to the Senator before William could, and Maeve doesn't really *need* sleep as a host in that it doesn't provide any of the restorative functions it does for the human body. She does choose to sleep sometimes, but I would sincerely hope not while driving a car. Caleb on the other hand appears to be just waking up from a car nap right here, but I don't think he would've been asleep for the entire journey. It reads more like he's trying to continue an earlier, unseen conversation with Maeve that probably could've gone something like Caleb asking 'where have you been all this time?' and Maeve giving a vague-ish answer like 'oh in a quiet little cabin in the woods somewhere cold'.

I couldn't find any info about where these two particular locations are based but I am still generally assuming "somewhere in SoCal" and once again, setting it in NorCal in-universe anyway. These make up the exterior of the estate owned by Senator Ken Whitney and his wife Anastasia Whitney. Another interior/exterior location features the barn at Will Rogers Historic State Park in Pacific Palisades and serves as the stable where the real Anastasia is being held under Hale's mind control.

They head back to Los Angeles to attend the opera opening at Angeles Arts Pavilion (which is actually the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts located at CSU Northridge). That's another 6-7 hour drive back and this time they would've stopped at a tailor to obtain Caleb's tux and Maeve's gala dress.

So collectively, Maeve and Caleb would've spent somewhere between 12-14 hours on the road driving to the Senator's estate and back. Almost immediately after they get back TO Los Angeles they then get shuffled away again by a secret train headed off to Nevada for the unveiling of the Golden Age park.

Several Hollywood stars, athletes and singers face a backlash for supporting Israel, while others are praised for their nuanced take on the conflict

Celebrities including Hollywood A-listers, influencers, and pop stars have been giving their opinions on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict after fighters from the besieged Gaza Strip shocked Israel with their unprecedented land, air and sea assault on Saturday.

Influencer and fashion mogul Kylie Jenner found herself at the centre of a social media storm when she shared a now-deleted post expressing support for Israel.

The Instagram post featured the Israeli flag alongside the message: "Now and always, we stand with the people of Israel." 

Jenner's stance drew widespread criticism.

Many questioned her understanding of Israel's 75-year occupation of the Palestinian territories. 

One social media user wrote: "Kylie Jenner wouldn't know where the Middle East is on a map but is letting her 400 million Instagram followers know she stands with Israel."

Israeli actress and star of Wonder Woman Gal Gadot, who has previously shown support for the Israeli army, was also criticised for her response to the latest bout of violence. 

"I stand with Israel you should too," Gadot posted on Instagram.

"The world cannot sit on the fence when these horrific acts of terror are happening," she said. "My heart is aching. Praying for all of those in pain."

Gadot's comment section has since been flooded with users writing "Free Palestine" and messages featuring the Palestinian flag emoji.

Comedian Sarah Silverman expressed her concern for her sister, nieces and nephews, who have been protesting against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's controversial judicial reform plans for months. 

"Fight for a two state solution. Israelis are Jews and Arabs and all colours," she said.

Silverman also acknowledged the nuanced complexity of the conflict before denouncing Hamas' mission statement.

Mark Ruffalo, who has played the Hulk in several Marvel blockbuster films including The Avengers franchise, was also criticised for blaming both sides for the latest escalation.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, the usually pro-Palestine actor shared a message from journalist and author Nathan Thrall, which said: "It is horrific to see innocent civilians killed and held hostage, and there is no justification for it.

"We pray for their safety, as we pray for the safety of the innocent people of Gaza who are being bombarded and besieged."

Professional boxer and model Younes Bendjima criticised the idea of blaming both sides for the fighting, writing: "I'd love to but I can't... there's only one side."

He went on to highlight the illegal occupation of Palestinian lands, restrictions on movement, the discriminatory treatment of Palestinians at checkpoints, and the presence of Israeli snipers in the occupied territories.

Bendjima also emphasised the disparity in international support, noting that Palestinians don't enjoy the backing of the United States.

He also drew attention to the constant presence of Israeli warplanes in the region, which fly over the Palestinian territories making, he said, "kids wet their beds in fear".

Former New Zealand rugby international player Sonny Bill Williams posted: "Praying for Gaza!" accompanied with a Palestinian flag.

Meanwhile, US Olympic fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad shared a quote from Malcolm X which read: "If you are not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing."

However, Arsenal and Ukrainian full-back Oleksandr Zinchenko found himself mired in controversy when he reposted an image from the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs featuring the Star of David.

Alongside the image, his story read: 'I stand with Israel.' 

But after he was met with a fierce backlash from his own fans, Zinchenko removed the comments and made his account private.

'When you hurt children, your cause is doomed'

Singers also weighed in with mixed reactions to the conflict.

Swedish singer Zara Larsson drew attention to what she perceived as a double standard in international reactions to conflicts, posting on her story: "Oh so it's stand with Ukraine when Russia invades but not Palesti-." 

Larsson's remarks shed light on the wider issue of the West's inconsistent response to various conflicts.

The fashion influencers Simi & Haze Khadra shared a similar sentiment, reposting a series of slides on their social media platform, highlighting human rights violations endured by Palestinians.

They noted that "absolute Zionist thinking collapses conversation and villainizes empathy for a Palestinian population that has extensively experienced torture, kidnapping, murder and other oppressive colonialist tactics at the hands of an apartheid state for decades."

However, singer Boy George expressed support for Israel, writing: "When you hurt women, children, and the elderly, your cause is doomed. I stand with Israel." 

His remarks were met with criticism by several social media users who responded with lists of the women, children, and elderly killed by Israeli forces in recent months and years.

Jazzaldia 2024: El Festival de Jazz de San Sebastián

El Jazzaldia 2024, también conocido como el Festival de Jazz de San Sebastián, se celebrará del 23 al 28 de julio en la hermosa ciudad de Donostia. Este evento, que llega a su 59ª edición, promete ser un espectáculo inolvidable con 76 conciertos repartidos en 12 escenarios espectaculares por toda la ciudad. For 30 years, the Shoah Foundation has been documenting stories of the Holocaust. This is more important then ever since new poll shows young people either don’t believe the Nazis killed 6 million Jews, or that this was somehow a myth. (Thanks to Mel Gibson for this lunacy.)

Today Oscar winning director Steven Spielberg — who started the Shoah Foundation after making “Schindler’s List” — revealed they are now documenting stories of the survivors of the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel.

“Rob Williams and the team at the USC Shoah Foundation are leading an effort that will ensure that the voices of survivors will act as a powerful tool to counter the dangerous rise of antisemitism and hate,” said Spielberg in a statement on the group’s web site.

Spielberg said the brutality of the October 7 Hamas attacks, along with the surge in antisemitism in their aftermath, has re-opened historic wounds.

“I never imagined I would see such unspeakable barbarity against Jews in my lifetime,” Spielberg said
