In spite of himself, Steve felt a flush creeping up the back of his neck. There were a lot benefits to this post-serum body besides being able to break into Hydra bases and leap fiery chasms. He didn't miss having to gasp for breath after he'd climbed a flight of stairs, or the way his immune system bailed at the first sign of a chill, or the way people tended to look right over him as if he didn't exist.

And, yeah, he wasn't oblivious to the aesthetics either. He could see the difference in how people reacted to him. It wasn’t exactly subtle most of the time. He couldn’t stop himself from wondering what Bucky would think of the difference though, if it changed anything for him. "Alright, how much have you had to drink?" He forced a soft, awkward laugh as he wrapped an arm around his waist to steady him, still awful at accepting compliments.

There's nothing happier than a Hawkeye in a kitchen. That doesn't simply hold true for just one of the Hawkeyes but both of them. Clint thinks he should keep a record of official-unofficial Hawkeye by-laws if there ever was another Hawkeye. Not that he thinks there is going to be.

Enough about the other Hawkeye because she was not invited as all things considered. This was kind of a date. Unofficially. He's not sure if it is but not sure it isn't either. It would be weird to have Kate here on one of those. Bring your adoptive family to chaperone was not the move. Technically, he is positive he could ask Bucky if she was invited and he could bat his eyelashes which he thinks will lead to him agreeing to a third wheel. Clint's eyes stray back to the chicken that's still unseasoned and he's pretty sure that's another chunk missing from it. The archer himself already having pulled a peace to toss to Lucky whose taken to gnawing on a rubber toy at the bottom of the counter near where the feline was perched.

❝ Hey, if you keep spoiling them there's not going to be any chicken left for you and me ❞ Buddy, pal, Buckaroo, what's he gonna say? FUCK IT. IS THIS A DATE? CALL HIM BABE. ❝ babe. ⸻ I'm seasoning it and putting it in now; so no more grubby hands. ❞ Now it was his turn to hip check Bucky and stand too close as he comes over one last time to offer up little chunks of chicken to their furred companions.

The playful slap to his ass stopped him dead in his tracks with a pool stick in one hand in front of him, acting as a cane, and beer in the other. Matt turned his head to the side, as if to look over his shoulder, with a brow raised over the red lensed sunglasses. "Not without buying me a drink first."

     “What the hell am I lookin’ at?”

     “Nothin’ good cap’n. Suit up.” 

     Didn’t have to tell him twice. Reports flooding in of men appearing out of nowhere, creatures too. Otherworldly things that weren’t half as nice as the masses thought they’d be. Steve chalked it up to an over-zealous new threat looking for ways to undermine Earth’s defenses but-

     Not today.

     The destruction they’d left on the boarders of some small fishing village in Iceland felt...familiar. Regressive. Not really the devastation he’s used to. Talking to the locals, whatever they’d witnessed had them spooked. No bodies, apparently no one...died? A few bullets here and there, the sharp crack and smell of gunpowder lingered and...

     Steve squats over something shining in the grass, runs his finger over the flat surface to impressioned lettering. Numbers. He’d know that name backwards, forwards, and jumbled.

     “Uh...Steve? Might wanna come see this.” Nat sounds shaken herself. No, not shaken. She can’t be rattled by something simple as this. Confused. Thoroughly. If she doesn’t understand it, he certainly won’t.

     “Geturðu hjálpað þessum aumingja dreng?” Steve glances at Natasha’s shoulders squaring against their approach and the rickety voice of an old woman draws him away from her. Peering over her shoulder he sees a mass of blankets crowded by a matronly group.

     “Hann gerði ekkert rangt. Hann var ekki eins og aðrir.” Natasha takes her aside, soothes her fretting that nothing’s going to happen to ‘the boy’. Steve drops to a crouch at the bend of blankets he assumes is a knee and reaches for the small opening he can just barely make out the vague shape of a face in.

     “You alright in there?”
