Long time no post. Got a Black and Decker Drill Powered Band Saw for 25 Canadian with a thicker wood blade, a thick metal/wood blade (so missing the thin metal blade), a spare drill, and a random mitre gauge for some unknown tool. Pictured is my first try at turning since highschool using my small drill powered lathe. I have decided that yes, I do indeed need to go acquire proper turning chisels, but that this technically functions (I used 3 just standard flat chisels for this in 3 sizes)

Tool case for the hammer drill I use at work. We were keeping it in its cardboard box, but that was starting to fall apart and wasn’t long enough to hold the drill bits that we use.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dados in side panels and dry fitting with top and bottom panels before glue up.
Tumblr media
The lid was then separated from the box by running all 4 sides on the table saw.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The dividers were made with interlocking plywood sections which were dado’d, glued, and brad nailed together, and then located into the box.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cabinet hinges were installed on the lid with a kreg jig. The support piece was milled to a thickness that matched the depth of the lid so it fit perfectly.
Tumblr media
Finished case lined with cardboard as padding for the tool and accessories! Questions, comments, and suggestions are always welcome!

Legal Considerations When Buying Woodworking Equipment at Auctions
Tumblr media
Buying woodworking equipment at auctions can be an exciting and cost-effective way to acquire tools for your workshop. However, it’s essential to be aware of the legal considerations to avoid any potential issues after your purchase. Here are some critical factors to keep in mind:
Understanding Auction Terms and Conditions
Before participating in any woodworking equipment auction, carefully read the auction’s terms and conditions. These terms outline important details such as bidding rules, payment requirements, and any fees (like buyer’s premiums) that may apply. Auctions often sell items "as-is," meaning that once you place your bid and win, the equipment is your responsibility, and you typically cannot return it for a refund. Being fully aware of these terms will help you make an informed decision.
Liability and Warranty Issues
Most woodworking equipment sold at auctions is second-hand, and it is usually sold without a warranty. This means that once you purchase the equipment, you assume full responsibility for its condition and any future repairs. Always inspect the machinery before bidding to ensure it meets your expectations, as some auction houses may not allow post-sale returns or claims for faulty equipment.
Inspection and Due Diligence
Performing thorough inspections of the equipment before placing a bid is not only smart but may also be a legal necessity in some jurisdictions. Auctions may not provide comprehensive information about the equipment's condition, so you must take the initiative to check for signs of wear, rust, or defects.
Auction House Liability and Buyer’s Premium
The auction house usually acts as an intermediary between you and the seller, but it may not be liable for any issues that arise after the sale. Therefore, it’s important to understand the auction house’s role and its legal obligations. Some auctions charge a buyer’s premium, an additional fee added to the winning bid price, which is usually non-negotiable.
Regulatory Compliance
Depending on your region, there may be laws and regulations governing the operation of woodworking machinery. Before purchasing equipment at an auction, ensure it complies with local safety and environmental regulations. For example, older machinery may not meet current safety standards, and you may need to make modifications before using it in your workshop.
Conclusion
Buying woodworking equipment at auctions can be a great way to save money, but it’s crucial to understand the legal aspects involved. By reading the terms and conditions carefully, inspecting the equipment thoroughly, and being aware of warranty limitations and regulatory compliance, you can ensure that your purchase is both legal and safe.

Plot twist: Back on my bullshit
So I found more drill powered tools, for decently cheap, this time for some rarer ones! A small 5 and some change inch blade circular saw, and a half sheet sander, both drill powered, both used by the guy in his condo so you know they work. The half sheet sander is decently uncommon but not quite rare, but having a circular saw with guard like this is *rare*. Almost all drill powered circ saws are a loose blade with adapter, no guard, and super unsafe, so this is a rare rare find! On Monday I should be picking up a extremely cheap drill-powered jigsaw, and a nice model at that, if all goes to plan. Going to bring my total of drill powered tools to:
Owned hand drill powered: Drill press (old, cast iron, hard/$ to ship, medium rare), lathe (new, rare), disk sander (new), half sheet sander (old, box, medium rare), circular saw (old, rare rare if with guard), paint mixer (new)
I want drill powered: Electric grinder/sharpener (chinese ones have no toolrest, but can get one there easy, also home depot), jigsaw (hopefully monday, medium rare), oscillating disk sander (never seen one online, may not exist), buffing wheel (either china or bulk set), better drill lathe (old preferably), router (never seen, may not exist), reciprocating saw (rare), original home utility line stand (likely as part of a bulk set buy)
But, as of right now/monday, I have a nearly complete set, even with some newer bits, or I could get one quick with a couple chinese buys :3 I already have some of the rare ones, so super pleased/excited with how this set's evolving :3

Sunday woodworking with my daughter to make a birdfeeder inspired by @fischotterkunst :
Tumblr media
Mock up with suet holder with the placement of the ends and sides. The bandsaw was used to cut out the ends, and then the end pieces were used to set the jointer to make the sides match the angle of the roofline.
Tumblr media
The feeder was assembled with an air powered brad nailer, much faster and cleaner than screws.
Tumblr media
I am especially proud of how the roof panels came together. This reinforces that woodworking isn’t about getting exact measurements, it is about relative measurements. The peak of the end was used to set the jointer so that the roof panels would match up. The actual angle doesn’t matter, it is using the parts for the setup of the tool that does. (I really should have a picture of that and I may mock it up later for another post)
Tumblr media
Here’s the block holder as it sits inside the feeder. It was too dark to get a photo of it hanging outside, so I’ll amend this post tomorrow.
Here’s to more avian visitors!

DIY Wood Shed: What You Need to Know Before Starting
Building a DIY wood shed can be a rewarding project for any homeowner looking to add extra storage space to their property. However, before starting on this project, there are a few important things to consider to ensure success. First and foremost, it's crucial to have a solid plan in place before beginning any construction. This includes determining the size and location of the shed, as well as gathering all necessary materials and tools. Taking the time to carefully plan out the project will help to avoid any potential setbacks or mistakes along the way.
Another key consideration before starting a DIY wood shed project is to have a good understanding of the building codes and regulations in your area. Different municipalities may have specific requirements for sheds, such as size restrictions or setback distances from property lines. Failing to adhere to these regulations could result in fines or even having to tear down the shed altogether. It's important to do thorough research and obtain any necessary permits before proceeding with construction to ensure compliance with local laws.
Lastly, it's essential to have the necessary skills and experience to complete a DIY wood shed project successfully. While constructing a shed may seem like a straightforward task, it requires a certain level of carpentry knowledge and skill. If you're not familiar with building structures or using power tools, it may be wise to consult with a professional or take a woodworking class before starting the project. By doing so, you can ensure that your wood shed is built to last and meets all safety standards. In conclusion, with careful planning, adherence to building codes, and the right skills, anyone can successfully build a DIY wood shed and enjoy the benefits of extra storage space on their property.
