These lines from Linada have always been interesting to me -- she is a peaceful Machina doctor but she specializes in Face units and cases like Fiora's. There's a few possible reasons for this, let's go into them.
One: Linada used to work with Egil, potentially even pioneering the Face unit project with him before realizing how messed up it was. The major supporting evidence for this, in my opinion, is the way Eiz in irt what Egil has done -- that's an awful lot of guilt over something he seemingly had no hand in. Doesn't explain why she shows no guilt, however.
Two: Linada knows how to care for Machina AND for Homs, allowing her to specialize in Face units' cases. Supporting evidence is the fact Homs and Machina alike both live on the arm. Doesn't explain how she knows of Face units, though -- via Dickson or perhaps the Black Wreckage?
Three: There have been past Face units she has cared for on the Fallen Arm -- which we have never seen, for one reason or another (either they died or we just haven't seen them for story reasons). Evidence is sparse here, but there's also less contradicting it in the form of missing info.
Basically, Linada gives potential evidence that we could all make like. Face unitsonas and not have them be Xord-esque Brain stems piloting giant Faces around. Please consider.

Xord Proposes: A Silly Script-Style Fic By A Dork
What it says on the tin. Contains uh... Crossover crackship of Xord/Vandham. Dadshipping....
Shoutout to my beloved @bionisinterior for the ship idea
[The Face Pilots sans Xord, and Vanea are seen at a table, sitting around with TTRPG items scattered about. They all seem to be varying levels of prepared for whatever game they are playing]
[Xord enters, stumbling into the seat next to Gadolt, he looks nervous and excited]
Egil: You’re late, Xord. That’s unlike you.
Xord: Haha, sorry about that! Had to go pick up a ring from the jewlers!
Fiora: I didn’t know you wear jewelry, Xord!
Xord: I don’t! Got a ring made for my boyfriend, want to propose soon!
Mumkhar and Fiora, in unison: You have a boyfriend?
Egil and Vanea, in unison: Aw, how nice
Gadolt: Wait [he furrows his brow] What does that have to do with the game?
[There is a moment of silence, Fiora giggling at Gadolt’s statement. Egil clears his throat after a moment to speak]
Egil: It doesn’t, but it’s nice he wants to get married again, don’t you think?
Gadolt: It is, I just thought--
Vanea: It’s wonderful! Xord, do you have plans for how to propose?
Xord: I was just gonna ask him while we sat about, watching television and the like.
Fiora: What?!
[Fiora stands up, slamming her hands on the table. She walks over to Xord, placing her hands on his shoulders.]
Fiora: You can’t do something so plain!
Xord: I can’t?
Gadolt: He can’t?
Fiora: You should do something big, something grand that people can watch! If you’re thinking of proposing he should know marriage is on the table, right? It’s not a question of if you’ll propose, but when you’ll propose!
Xord: Huh, guess so!
[Xord thinks for a bit, before frowning]
Xord: Then again, we can both be a bit of a ham when in the spotlight. Might ruin the romance of the moment, don’t you think?
Mumkhar: He muscular?
Xord: Huh?
Mumkhar: That boyfriend of yours, he muscular? Big like you?
Xord: Sure is! How did you guess?
Mumkhar: Just had a feeling. If you’re both so big, though…
[Mumkhar leans back, a grin on his face. Vanea and Fiora both make faces, knowing whatever’s about to come out of his mouth will be ridiculous]
Mumkhar: Challenge him to an arm wrestling contest! Tell him he’s got a good prize coming to him if he does. Propose whenever he finally wins.
Xord: Huh, but what if he doesn’t ever win?
Mumkhar: He’s not strong enough to marry you, then.
[Egil clears his throat once again, everyone turns to look at him. A bit of a de facto leader, it seems they all expect something good to come out of his mouth.]
Egil: That lacks the romance Xord seems to want it to have, Mumkhar.
Mumkhar: So?
Egil: So, why not go for something a bit classic. A nice dinner for him, just the two of you. Propose at the height of the meal, at the height of romance.
Xord: That sounds great! ...I don’t know how to cook, though.
Egil: Ask your daughter to help, she knows how to cook, right?
Xord: Does she?
Fiora: I give Désirée cooking lessons every week, so pretty sure she does. I can help, too, if it’s too out of her range!
Egil: See? Seems like the perfect plan.
Vanea: Almost perfect.
[Everyone turns to Vanea, who has a smile on her face.]
Vanea: A romantic dinner is the perfect place to start! Just the two of you sharing a meal, staring into each other’s eyes… But get creative with how you present the ring!
Xord: Like… chuck it at him?
Vanea and Fiora, in unison: No!
Vanea: Have it placed into a pastry, dessert. Hand it to him and wait for him to find it. When he does, reveal the reason for the meal!
Xord: Ohhh! …What if he bites into it, though?
Vanea: Is… your boyfriend the type to eat without looking?
Xord: Sometimes.
[Silence falls over them again, everyone but Gadolt and Xord thinking hard on what to do. There has to be a way to make it the perfect proposal!]
Gadolt: Where does he work?
Xord: An orphanage! He likes to care for kids who lost their folks in tragedies an awful lot!
Gadolt: Is he working today?
Xord: Sure is!
Gadolt: Let’s all go over now and you can propose.
Everyone, in unison: What?!
Gadolt: Overthinking it isn’t any good. If it’s just a few kids and us it’ll be a bigger event without either of you hamming it up too much, right?
Xord: Huh… guess so…
Gadolt: Would hit the element of surprise, too, if you just sprung it on him right as you got the ring.
Mumkhar: ...How are you so good at this?
Gadolt: Proposed once, remember?
Egil: ...I suppose that means this session will be put on hold until… probably next week, if all goes well. Let’s go then, everyone pack up your things.
[The group packs up their items quickly enough and soon are on their way to the orphanage. Scene change to children of various ages playing or helping each other out. Vandham is standing in a room, watching an older child read to some younger ones.]
Fiora: That’s your boyfriend?
Mumkhar: He’s built like a grenade.
Xord: Thank you!
Mumkhar: Not a compliment.
[Vanea kicks Mumkhar in the back of the knee with a frown.]
Vanea: Be nice, this is a big moment!
[Xord approaches, looking a bit nervous before puffing out his chest. Mumkhar snickers before Vanea elbows him and silences him.]
Vandham: Xord! Funny seein’ you here, didn’t you have a game?
Xord: Sure did! Something came up, though, made me realize I have something I need to ask you.
Vandham: Funny, I’ve got something I’ve got ta ask ya as well.
Xord: Oh? Well, how about we ask at the same time! Should be a load of fun!
Fiora: Xord, no--
Vandham: Sounds mighty fine to me! Alright then. Three, two, one…
Xord and Vandham, in unison: Will you marry me?
Xord: Well, well, look at that. Trying to one up me! Of course I’ll marry you.
Vandham: I could say the same thing, alright, I’ll marry ya!
[The room erupts into chatters and squeals. The children and Fiora all descend onto the pair of men. Vanea and Gadolt share pleasant chatter, happy to see it turn out well. Mumkhar turns to Egil.]
Mumkhar: Are… Are you crying--
Egil: Shut up proposals always get me teary-eyed.
~FIN~

Egil & Vanea 32, Vanea & Linada 11, Fiora & Meyneth 2, Meyneth & Miqol 5, Egil & ANYONE 3. Metal Face 24. These prompts are SO good for the Machina
Send me a number and character(s)/pair(s) and I’ll write you a flash fic
(They are!! Thank you for all the prompts! They'll be under the cut!)
It was said in a secret language.
There was something to said about twins and their ability to communicate without a word. Vanea and Egil were no different in that way. A secret language, just for the two of them.
Some said they were two halves of one whole, and perhaps that was the case. Perhaps that was why shared looks and touches and knew exactly what it meant.
A shove of the shoulder said so much more than one would think. A glance from the left instructions no one else would understand.
The pain and agony when Egil stared at her, tears in his eyes, the bodies of their breathren around them... It was said in a secret language that only Vanea could understand.
Can you play?
Linada was older than Vanea by a few thousand years, and she had thought that would make the latter uninterested in her. But here she was, as little as could be, asking if she can play.
Linada, who had just left her pod for the last time, thinks for a moment. She has studying to get to, a headpiece to make... But Vanea often asks this. Of course the younger one, still in her pod as if she was a newborn, wouldn't change her activity just because of that.
Linada smiles at her, and touches the pod's glass. "I think I could spare a moment for you, sure."
Vanea giggles, happy as can be. "Yay! Let me invite Egil, too!"
Linada hopes saying sure wasn't a mistake.
Tell me a ghost story.
An odd request from her vessel, no doubt, but Meyneth could not find it in her to tell Fiora no. A ghost story... She thinks for a moment, realizing all of what had happened before this world came to be could be considered one.
"I'll tell you of a ghost of a woman, who so foolishly thought she could change the mind of a monster," she begins, voice soft. "A woman who wanted to save him, and lost herself in the process."
"That sounds more like a tragedy than a ghost story," Fiora replies with a hum. "Are you sure that's the story you want to tell me?"
Meyneth thinks for a moment. "Yes... someone needs to know this story. And I can think of no one better to carry it than you."
A sufficiently advanced society is indistinguishable from the gods.
Meyneth had seen it happen before, when Klaus had decided to become a god truly and fully. She had seen a society blur the line between mortal and (possibly non-existent) god. But this time, it did not fill her with dread.
She did not want to be a god, she was not like Klaus. She had not wanted this, she had wanted to work to save their world, to save Earth, as a human. But that was no longer a choice.
She had to be a god, had to guide the Machina. Seeing the peaceful Machina, however, she feels at peace. If they came to be mortal gods... She would be happy. She could rest, once again, and not hold them in her hands.
She no longer had to guide them all, if they continued to grow. She smiles down at Miqol. "Thank you."
"Whatever for, my lady?"
"For everything."
I’m not going to apologize for this.
Miqol knows the hidden meaning behind those words. I am not going to apologize to you. Egil did not mean he would not apologize for what he had done to others, just to him.
He supposes he deserves this, for being such a bad father. Deserves to be spat at as Egil lays on the medbay bed. As he stares at the ceiling and refuses to look at him.
Miqol wonders if Egil is crying, the way he refuses to show his face. Wonders if maybe he should apologize first, for not being there when his son needed him.
But he's not going to apologize, either, so he supposes they are at a stalemate.
You look like you’ve done this before.
Survived at any cost? Made the best of any situation? Mumkhar almost wants to cackle when Vanea says that to him. Of course he's done this before! He's always been a survivor, always will.
From the time his original colony was torn to shreds, so few survivors. To the battles with Dunban and Dickson, to the choice to run away... Well, he guesses that last one didn't exactly turn out well at first.
But now he had this body, stronger and more powerful than ever before... He'd done this before, and he would do it again and again. As long as it took.

Meyneth, rubbing their temples: I am not proud of what I am about to say, but someone get me a cigarrette. Egil: But Meyneth, we don't smoke. Meyneth: Cut the crap, Egil. I'm not an idiot. I know that one in five people smoke. Meyneth: *points at Vanea* One! *points at Fiora* Two! *points at Mumkhar* Three! *points at Xord* Four! *points at Egil* Five! Meyneth: Now, I am going to close my eyes, and when I open them, there better be a cigarrette between these two fingers! Xord: *puts a cigarrette in Meyneth's hand* Meyneth: Thank you. ...Light? The Squad: *all simultaneously pull out lighters*

Vanea - Mumkhar Dynamic in the Face Unit Special AU
The basic idea of this AU is the Face Units not only have more interaction with each other, but also Egil and Vanea. Basically, an AU centered around the beings on Mechonis.
This post: Vanea and Mumkhar's dynamic in the AU!
Vanea is largely in charge of repairing damaged Faces when they come back... Meaning she has to spend a lot of time with Mumkhar, who seems to always get messed up in some way.
Vanea is kind, Vanea is patient. She's been putting up with Egil for years! But Meyneth help her, Mumkhar is testing that patience.
Mumkhar is constantly poking fun at her or talking about the Monado Boy or Dunban (and Vanea is just like "stop telling me about your ex or whatever he is" internally constantly).
Metal Face is on screen with some sort of broken bit and Vanea braces herself for more of Mumkhar's bullshit.
It builds, and Vanea mostly holds it in. Mostly. Until Mumkhar breaks the last bit of patience she has.
Mumkhar mentions Egil in some way, likely negative. Vanea, already fed up, snaps at him. Mumkhar was not expecting this and is in shock for the rest of the repairs.
Mumkhar learns to hold his tongue with Vanea after that. You do not bring her loved ones into your bullshit around her. Ever.
Vanea suddenly begins to enjoy repairs a bit more! Gee, I wonder why...
Mumkhar finds himself respecting her a bit because of this... Doesn't mean he'll ever admit it, though. He's taking that to his grave, thanks.
Vanea, meanwhile, does not respect him at all. She feels he feeds into Egil's violent impulses too much.
Next Time: Vanea and Xord!

A post a little more related to Shulk than the Machina (but plays into his choice to spare Egil), because I like the twitter thread.
Bold take apparently in the fandom but the scene where Shulk stops Dunban from killing Mumkhar is kino bc it shows how much Shulk just wants to UNDERSTAND and not kill anyone
You may say "but he acts like it only matters bc its Homs in the Mechs" like!!!! ITS NOT LIKE HE KNOWS THE MACHINA EXIST YET LMAO!!!! HES NOT SEEN EGIL, FOR ALL HE KNOWS EGIL IS AN ANGRY HOMS OR HIGH ENTIA OR SMTHN!!!!
I have seen people say him saying "what would it be fine if it was a Machina?" but ya'll forget the Machina literally do not exist as far as Shulk knows yet. He doesn't meet them until after Mumkhar is dead
And when he meets them and learns what Egil is? He decides he doesn't wanna kill, only goes along with it because Dickson wants him to. Dickson, who works for Zanza, and thus wants to continue the cycle of violence. The Mumkhar scene is the start of Shulk breaking that cycle!!!
The way Shulk breaks the cycle that Zanza stuck the world in, the way he breaks the curse of Zanza by not listening when he's literally screaming at him to kill.... I'm sorry but I will never not find that to be so powerful
And the fact Shulk is a pessimist, he has no reason NOT to end up just like Egil and slaughter the people of Mechonis to strike back at the Titan who robbed his people of their lives... But he does anyway, he thinks and he feels and he tries to understand. PEAK FICTION
But then Shulk is allowed to be angry, to steam and be upset. He doesn't have to be a perfectly kind person. He can be angry and gets to be angry at Zanza -- the source of it all. His anger is not bad, it simply needs to be directed at the right people.
I'm just yelling to explain why he's so important to me as well as friends I know who relate to Egil being allowed to lash out at an oppressor and not be vilified for it, not be someone who HAS to die but instead gets listened to by someone who has no reason to.
I don't condone the shit Egil does but like. the way i would be punished for lashing out at an ableist society makes me go. Mmmm yes, Shulk, want to understand him when he doesnt know how to let himself be known yes

Egil - Mumkhar Dynamic in the Face Unit Special AU
The basic idea of this AU is the Face Units not only have more interaction with each other, but also Egil and Vanea. Basically, an AU centered around the beings on Mechonis.
This post: Egil and Mumkhar’s dynamic in the AU!
So, first thing to know: Mumkhar is the Fun Asshole of the group, so to speak. Egil has a bit of a stick up his ass, though, so they don't gel well.
Mumkhar was the first unique Face with a pilot, and a lot of work was put into both his chassis and his mech. Egil only puts up with shit from Mumkhar because the first unique Face going well is important to him.
Mumkhar is appreciative of the body Egil made him, so Egil gets a little less of his shit than most... But Mumkhar can't help it.
He likes to point out how tense Egil always is. Tries to tell him it's better to just let go and go all out, like he does. Egil doesn't take well to this. At all.
Mumkhar is really casual about the fact Egil destroyed the Colony he's originally from. He says he's getting even every time he hassles Egil. Egil thinks he's gotten payback ten times over.
Mumkhar gave Egil the idea to give unique Faces unique weapons. Originally they would all have had hammers or spears, but he saw how deadly Mumkhar was with claws and made changes based on that.
Mumkhar would do shit like putting shaving cream in Egil's hand then trying to make him sneeze. Egil is the type to slap Mumkhar before scratching his nose when he wakes up.
Egil doesn't like Mumkhar hanging around Vanea. He worries his sister is too soft to be around someone like Mumkhar.
"You are tearing this army apart, Mumkhar" "No you lol"
Egil thinks it's digusting that Mumkhar is obsessed with using the Monado, even knowing what he does. Mumkhar insists he wouldn't get messed up by Zanza, he's built different.
(Egil builds in a kill switch, on the off chance he gets it and does fall prey. Never hurts to be careful he tells himself.)
Mumkhar survives so imagine the shit he gets about his stunt at Galahad lmfao. Stop breaking your Face, Mumkhar!! Egil is pissed!!
Next Time: Egil and Xord!
