12/1/23 Open 6-9p. No open containers, please.
It's a rainy First Friday in the beautiful & historic Oregon District of Dayton, Ohio. Even Tom Swift tried to elbow in on the action with a Wright Flyer & a crankless ignition car for his adventures. We're a fascinating stop for your next expedition!

US-born Spanish woman Maria Branyas Morera, 115 years old world’s oldest person
Tumblr media
She has experienced the horrible effects of two world wars, a civil war, and two pandemics on a worldwide scale. Following the passing of French nun Sister André earlier this month at the age of 118, Maria Branyas Morera, who was born in the United States, has now been declared the oldest person in the world by Guinness World Records (GWR). According to Guinness World Records, Maria Branyas Morera was born in San Francisco in 1907 and migrated to Spain in 1915, just before the Spanish Flu outbreak and throughout World War I. Morera was born nearly 116 years ago in San Francisco, united states but she has spent the last 22 years at a nursing facility in Catalonia, Spain. Eight years after her birth, Morera and her family relocated to Spain. Near the course of their transatlantic journey, her father developed pulmonary tuberculosis and passed away, according to Guinness. Morera fell while playing with her brothers during the trip, which left her with lifelong hearing loss in one ear.   View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Guinness World Records (@guinnessworldrecords) Before the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918, the family moved to Barcelona in 1915. According to the publication, Morera also experienced the Spanish Civil War in 1936, which she claimed left her with "extremely unpleasant recollections." According to Guinness, Morera was married to the Spanish physician Joan Moret for 40 years. The couple has three children, 11 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren together. According to a statement released by her residence, "She is in good health & continues to be surprised & grateful for the attention that, this anniversary has generated." Read the full article

The Wright Flyer (also known as the Kitty Hawk, Flyer I or the 1903 Flyer) made the first sustained flight by a manned heavier-than-air powered and controlled aircraft—an airplane—on 17 December 1903. Invented and flown by Orville and Wilbur Wright, it marked the beginning of the pioneer era of aviation. #wrightbrothers #wrightbrothersmemorial #firstinflight #wrightflyer #ActionSports #WGAPIX #GrindstoneMG #aviationphotography #aviationhistory #killdevilhillsnc #ASPStock #ASPTravel (at Wright Brothers National Memorial) https://www.instagram.com/p/CmVN0E1jcy1/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Wright Brothers Day commemorates the first successful flights in a mechanically propelled airplane that was heavier-than-air. The planes were made by Orville Wright and Wilbur Wright in 1903 .🛩️❤️ ✨

In the earliest years of the U.S. Army’s use of airplanes, the primary mission of aircraft was intelligence gathering and swift delivery of messages; in March 1911 the Army began experimenting with other possible military uses. Following the lead of European and Japanese armies, the Army used aircraft to adjust observed artillery fire for the first time at Fort Riley, Kansas, from 5 through 13 November 1912. Using two Wright Model C "Speed Scout" planes, which were designed to perform reconnaissance and could carry radio and photographic equipment with a two-man crew (a pilot and observer), Captain Frederick B. Hennessy and 2nd Lieutenants Henry H. “Hap” Arnold and Thomas DeWitt Milling observed the strike of rounds and adjusted the fire of the batteries on the ground to the targets using radiotelegraphy, drop cards, and smoke signals. Lieutenant Colonel Edward McGlachlin, commandant of the Field Artillery School, embraced the idea and further developed aerial observation at Fort Sill in 1915-1916. DID YOU KNOW - 2nd Lieutenant Henry H. “Hap” Arnold, who began his career as an infantry officer and served in the Philippines, was detailed to the Signal Corps and learned to fly from the Wright Brothers. - Hap Arnold went on to command U.S. Army Air Forces in World War II and was promoted to the 5-star rank of General of the Army in 1944. #Armyhistory #USArmy #MilitaryHistory #TRADOC #MilitaryAviation #SignalCorps #ArmyAviation #WrightBrothers #Artillery #AirForceHistory Posted @withrepost • @armyhistory https://www.instagram.com/p/CklJqQ_usxM/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
