104th Hop Step Award - H☆S (October, 1993)
Togashi-sensei's Direct Instructions! The road to conquer all areas of manga!
Mass Recruitment for the 104th (October 1993 Term) H☆S Award!! This month's judge is Yoshihiro Togashi-sensei!
Tumblr media
The Hop☆Step Award (H☆S Award) was a monthly recruitment project by Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha) that took place from March 1985 to July 1996.
I already translated Togashi's ten "4-koma" that he drew during the Yu Yu Hakusho serialization to give advice to the participants of the H☆S Award - October 1991 & 1992 Terms.
This time, I am translating the October 1993 Term, where he gives the newcomer manga artists more tips and advice on how to create different styes of manga. The winner of this edition was Eiichiro Oda with the one-shot "Ikki Yakō" (一鬼夜行). At the time, Yu Yu Hakusho was in the Black Chapter Arc.
Togashi gives instructions to help creating gag, love comedies, sports and fantasy manga. He used a little bit of all those elements in Yu Yu Hakusho.
Part 1. Gag Manga
Tumblr media
T/N: Chain letters (letters of misfortune) were popular in Japan during the Showa era. A ''letter'' or ''postcard'' was delivered to your home/work in the style of ''If you do not send it to a certain number of people, you will be unhappy.'' The sender is unknown. Chain letters were also a hot topic in magazines and manga, like Doraemon and a bunch of gag manga.

The funny versions of Yanagizawa, Kido and Kaito represent the editors in charge of:
Jungle King Tar-chan/DNA² (Kaoru Kushima);
Lucky Man/JoJo (KAITO Katsuhiko);
Yu Yu Hakusho/Monmonmon (Tomoyuki Shima)
Waiting for powerful works that will break these guys territories! !
Tumblr media
They were responsible for the screening, checking all the applications and eliminating the mediocre works before passing them on to Togashi. Inside their territories, works with "characters that are all very similar," "characters with no strong personality at all" or "just imitations of existing characters" were mercifully discarded.
Part 2. Romantic Comedy

T/N: The fantasy illustration of Botan, Keiko, Yukina, Shizuru and Atsuko in medieval clothes was designed to the opening page of Yu Yu Hakusho volume 11, tankobon edition.

🏆 Winner: Eiichiro Oda
Oda-sensei was the inner of this edition! Togashi-sensei reviews his 31-page one-shot, "Ikki Yakou", that was published in the 1994 Shonen Jump Spring Special, and later reprinted in 1998 as part of Wanted!, a compilation of Oda's pre-One Piece stories.

You know, I really appreciate Syaoran developing independent friendships within the wider friend circle. He was having lunch with Yamazaki, Naoko and Chiharu (forgot the chapter) without Sakura or Tomoyo being present and was clearly in a conversation where he felt comfortable enough to put his point across to Naoko despite his contrary opinion. Plus, I found it so cute that he was worried about 'Yanagizawa' pulling all nighters and asked her to take care of her health (again, forgot the chapter). It really shows how far Syaoran has come as a character. I wish we get a OVA or extra story elaborating how Syaoran changed as a person for the better in Japan. I wonder what the reaction of his former classmates back in Hong Kong was once he moved back to Hong Kong. They would have gone "Li is much calmer now. He even talks to us nicely. I wonder what happened in Japan? Did he go soft out there?" Buhaha. And then Meiling jumps in with "Nah. He just caught feelings out there." Ahahahaha.
Hellooo, thank you for the nice ask! Yeaaaah, this is something I'm 99% sure I've mentioned in my past chapter analysis too, how wonderful it was to see Syaoran interacting and tightening his bond with the other friends, aside from Sakura and Tomoyo. I really appreciated that, especially the interactions he's got with Naoko (so peculiar to see him getting worried over a friend who's not Tomoyo or his girlfriend, right?) and it really goes to show what a tremendous character development he had from the Clow Card Arc days. A development that didn't stop with the end of Sakura Card Arc but actually continues in Clear Card, with the consolidation of the friendships he made in Japan, which are quite predictive of the bonds he will keep even once he enters his adulthood.
Tumblr media
Seeing him in chapter 59 stating, all serious and slightly embarrassed, that he wanted to be of help to everyone in the preparations of the play was really sweet, and I also loved that he was able to discuss with Naoko about his role in a very mature way. I really can feel CLAMP's need for these kids to grow up mentally, emotionally and even socially, therefore the decision to "split" the original Tomoeda elementary group and particularly to "split" Syaoran and Sakura, in order to allow them to experience also other bonds and not end up attached to the hips, so to speak. I also want to mention the absolutely beautiful "boys talk" that Syaoran and Yamazaki have in one of the Clear Card Drama CDs, it's one of the "original contents" and something I felt was missing from Syaoran's friendship with Yamazaki: a boys talk about their relationship with their girlfriends 😁 (and Yamazaki proved to be so mature, despite his foolish appearance). Syaoran couldn't talk to Sakura yet about her problem with her powers, and the guilt was eating his soul away, so he seeked advice and reassurance from his best buddy: another sign of maturity (instead of keeping everything inside like he used to do).
All in all, Syaoran really benefited not only from the interactions with Sakura but all the Tomoeda kids, and I'm sure his classmates in Hong Kong noticed too! 😁

Chapter Notes | maai; the distance between
this chapter starts off slow before moving into a bit more intense (and admittedly gory) action.
let's talk about sanemi
while he is brash and aggressive, sanemi has more nuance to him than that. he has been shown to be well spoken and respectful of those who deserve it, and he's noted to be particularly kind to women, children, and the elderly (within reason!)
i feel like so far i have very much explored the more kind and gentle nature of the eldest shinazugawa while hinting at a darker exterior. his introduction to masachika, obanai, and kyoujurou (to an extent) are rough and cold, whereas he has been very polite to the women of the spring estate and respectful to those of deserving rank and stature (akihito, ritsunoko, and yoriha).
the second half of this chapter was a lot of fun to explore. sanemi is known to loathe demons (as we've seen in the series), however his hatred and contempt for them is so strong that his subtitle in the fanbooks is 'he who holds peerless resentment against demons'. this is pretty stark when the others hold subtitles such as 'she who's peerless heart beats ever loudly' (personal character trait) or 'he whose cold, peerless judgement guides his slaying hand' (character trait that directly impacts how they kill demons). sanemi's subtitle stands out as neither something that helps him slay demons nor a character/personality trait (arguably), it's the simple fact that he peerlessly resents and despises demons.
i don't think sanemi is so lost in his contempt and hatred that he's unaware of it and it's made him unadjusted to life with other humans. i hope some of his internal dialogue helped illustrate his state of mind and his crusade against demons.
let's talk about the hashira
there are many original characters in this story (as evident by the tag i included: a lot of original characters). while we love the nine pillars initially introduced to us in KNY, i desperately wanted to pad out the world and give it more substance and flesh. there's so much potential for more growth in terms of characters, family, and overall history and lore for the corps and the breathing styles.
we currently know of a handful of hashira, but the entire lineup as of this point in the story has yet to be revealed. allow me to recap what we know:
yanagizawa yoriha, the dragon hashira who is currently the eldest serving hashira. she has the highest seniority.
rengoku shinjurou, the flame hashira and master of the chrysanthemum estate. he is kyoujurou's father, and as hinted by kyoujurou this chapter, has some kind of mentorship over obanai.
kakutani akihito, the wind hashira and master of the Spring Estate. he is yoake's uncle. masachika is his tsuguko, and he is sanemi's wind breathing cultivator.
urokodaki ritsunoko, the water hashira, who we met very briefly at the end of chapter one. tomioka giyuu is her tsuguko, and she has a pretty familiar family name...
kakutani yoake, the crane hashira and heir to the spring estate.
without saying too much more, i'll tell you that we will at least meet the other hashira within the next chapter or so, and we might start exploring the connections and histories between some of the OC hashira too...!
let's talk about final selection
in the series, we see that kirya and kanata are the facilitators of tanjirou's final selection, which i personally find to be a very bold choice (sending the ubuyshiki heir so close to demon territory) however it's very possible and likely that the children were escorted there by kakushi or other demon slayers as guards (we do see demon slayers acting as guards/patrols in the swordsmith village, after all).
at this point in the story, kuina and kanata are far too young to facilitate final selection, and amane would be responsible for caring for five needy toddlers, so i doubt she'd facilitate it either. and as bold as it was to send the ubuyshiki heir to facilitate final selection, i do not ever see them sending the current oyakata-sama and head ubuyashiki to facilitate, no matter how much he'd might like to.
it makes the most sense for someone of relative seniority and high rank to facilitate final selection. we know no one helps the recruits on the mountain, as evidenced by the hand demons wonton destruction of the trainees over the course of 47 years, so they wouldn't necessarily need to be slayers or capable fights - however given the nature of it being an assessment, and its importance in the corps in terms of keeping the ranks full, i don't think it unreasonable that one or twice a year, a hashira holds off their patrol duties for one week to facilitate the intake of new members of the corps.
it's my personal belief that final selection is held about 1-3 times a year depending on how many students and trainees have prepared and petitioned. their cultivators would be responsible for putting their names forward to the corps as potential recruits, and when that number hits a certain threshold, a final selection will be organised.
we know from giyuu's comments about his own selection (paraphrasing: "the selection from that year") seems to imply there was only one that year. given the comment made by the hashira in the series after tanjirou first comes to headquarters, we know the quality of the recruits has deteriorated over the years despite the strength of the modern day hashira standing on par with the sengoku era (said to be the peak of strength of the corps). i believe we can infer from this that while multiple selections are held a year, within the past decade or so, it's not uncommon for a year to only host one.
final notes
i had a subtle confirmation in this chapter that the fourth great family of the five great families that have supported the demon slayer corps over the centuries is, of course, the ubuyashiki family. this means we know the of the following families:
the Kakutani household of the Spring Estate
the Kochou household of the Butterfly Estate
the Rengoku household of the Chrysanthemum Estate
the Ubuyashiki household of an as-of-yet unnamed estate
To whet your appetites, here's a look at the four kamons for the four great families (made my myself!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i could really go on and on about so much more in the chapter, but i don't want to talk your ears off when i know my chapters already run extremely long (so much so that i need to split them on ao3). so i'll leave things off here with a reminder that my askbox is open for anyone with any further queries!

The Global Cities Are Controlling The World’s Economy
Emily Badger details the divergence of ‘global cities’ from the hinterlands beyond their environs, and points out the connections that link such power centers, and simultaneously exclude smaller cities and non-cities from the benefits of the global economic network.
What Happens When the Richest U.S. Cities Turn to the World? | Emily Badger
People in Rust Belt towns where Google has no office still use the search giant. Facebook and Twitter still require physical assets in server farms. Uber, a quintessential Bay Area company that is both global and digital, operates in about 250 American cities.
But these kinds of ties aren’t truly spreading the Bay Area’s prosperity. Server farms don’t create mass middle-class employment. Using Google isn’t the same as having a hand in engineering it.
Yes, Uber’s innovation eventually reaches smaller cities in Texas and Ohio.“But the economic benefits of it are at Uber headquarters,” said Michael Storper, an economic geographer at U.C.L.A. “The people who got rich off of it are not going to be in the small area. They’re going to be where it’s invented.”
To put it more harshly, when global cities need other communities today, Ms. [Saskia] Sassen said, it’s often to extract value out of them. New York bankers need Middle America’s mortgages to construct securities. San Francisco start-ups need idle cars everywhere to amass billion-dollar valuations. Online retail giants need cheap land for their warehouses.
The rest of the country may receive the innovations that flow out of global cities, and the benefits to consumers are real. “But by the time that’s done, the cities have already invented something new and made themselves richer again,” Mr. Storper said. “Before anywhere else can catch up, San Francisco has already leapt ahead again with new stuff they’ve invented.”
The advantages bestowed by the global economy keep compounding from there. Research by Filipe Campante at Harvard and David Yanagizawa-Drott at the University of Zurich finds that when two cities are linked by direct flights across the globe, business links between them increase as well, such that places with more connections grow more economically. Those economic benefits, though, don’t appear to touch places more than 100 miles beyond the airport.
Harald Bathelt at the University of Toronto has found that firms in leading tech clusters in Canada tend to invest in leading tech clusters in China, and vice versa. They’re pouring resources into and linking up to places that are already similarly successful.
“The Torontos, Ottawas and Waterloos in countries like Canada and the U.S., they will link with Shenzhen in China, they will link with Munich and Stockholm in Europe,” Mr. Bathelt said. “And other places will be kind of left out.”
Greg Spencer, another researcher at the University of Toronto, has analyzed the global footprints of the world’s 500 largest firms in advanced industries like machinery, digital services and life sciences — mapping their headquarters, regional offices, manufacturing plants, warehouses, retail stores.
In the international network that emerges, global cities stand out. Other places connect to the global economy by going through them.
“I keep coming back to the idea that a lot of this is about power,” Mr. Spencer said. He means relative power — which places are gaining or losing it as the geography of the economy shifts, too. “Not only are they losing their power,” he said of the places left out, “but they’re losing their connection to the power centers as well.”

Creator Shinobu Ohtaka shared the following comment back in August along with a celebratory illustration:
"The staff of the Orient anime are hard at work making the best anime they possibly can. As an author, I can’t wait to see new life breathed into my characters, and see how they move when animated."
Director Tetsuya Yanagizawa commented, as well:
“I’ve been reading shonen manga since I was a kid. I’ve learned a lot from manga. I love strong characters, and the way they stay true to what they believe and fight through any trial has given me courage many times. I like weak heroes too. When somebody falls and then gets back up again, they always grow as a person. Sometimes fighting with your friends, or laughing with them... I like all those kinds of manga. And Orient has all of that. I’ve always wanted to make a show like this."
As did series composition writer Mariko Kunisawa:
“The world of Orient is the society we live in. The more I read it, the more I realize that.” I want to share the things that make this manga great with as many people as possible, and both the director and I are working are hardest at it.”

YYH Official Characters Book: Togashi’s comments about Kido, Kaitou, Yanagisawa and Murota.
Asato Kido - “Shadow”
He has the ability to step on the opponent's shadow and seal off his movements. Despite the stern look, he is fainthearted and the type who depends on others to live. However, subconsciously, he hates himself for being like that. He used to play “shadow stomping” (kagefumi) when he was a child. For some reason, he seemed to become the “oni” (ogre) very often.
Yuu Kaito - "Taboo”
If you say the forbidden word in his territory, your soul will be taken away. His hobbies are human sciences including reading, haiku poetry and translation. Surprisingly, he has a chivalry spirit and his inner humanity can be seen as he cannot use his abilities unless he declares "Do not say xxx (the taboo)”.
Mitsunari Yanagisawa - "Copy"
He has the ability to copy the appearance and memory of a person by touching on the other person's head. With a strong desire to change his appearance since childhood, his special skill is mimicry. It seems he was scolded when he played poisonous impersonations of his teachers, parents and entertainers as a kid. His typical trademark gag is “If Johnny & Associates were Yoshimoto Kogyo...”.
T/N: “Johnny & Associates” is a Japanese talent agency, formed by Johnny Kitagawa in 1962, which trains and promotes groups of male entertainers known as Johnny's. “Yoshimoto Kogyo” is a Japanese entertainment conglomerate founded in 1912 as a traditional theater. It has since grown to be one of the most influential companies in Japan, employing most of Japan's popular owarai (comedy) talent.
Shigeru Murota - "Tapping”
He has the ability to read the human mind. A man, who has the habit of eavesdropping, is very suspicious and does not trust what people say. During junior high school, the shocking memories of a friend whom he thought to be a close friend speaking ill of him behind his back, seems to be the basis of his current personality.

Chapter Notes | kachigaaru; to be worthy
you can read the newest chapter here!
Let's start of with some translations!
oyakata-sama
a traditional way to say "Master". I refer to Kagaya in prose as "master", however the character directly address him as oyakata-sama. This choice was made to distinguish other characters that are called master - for example, someone may call Akihito "Master" due to him being master of estate and a hashira, whereas oyakata-sama is reserved for the leader of the corps. Oyakata is traditionally used as a title for a father figure or provider. It's also very commonly used nowadays for sumo coaches.
nembutsu
also known in Chinese as nianfo, nembutsu is essentially a repetitive meditation in Pure Land Buddhism, commonly of the name of Amida Butsu (also known as Amitabha).
南・無・阿・弥・陀・仏 | namu amida butsu
one of the most common nembutsu - it essentially translates to "Praise Amida Butsu" or "I am aware of Amida Butsu" or even "I bow to Amida Butsu"
kyoudai sakazuki
a practice in which two people will swear over cups of sake to be sword brothers. the two people are not related, but after the practice, regard each other the same as true born family members. kyoudai means sibling to indicate the relationship - there are versions of this ceremony for parent-child relationships too. nowadays this is very commonly associated as a yakuza tradition or initiation.
shimuryoushin
also known as the brahmavihara, it is the four immeasurable virtues practiced and cultivated in Buddhism; loving-kindness or benevolence (mettā), compassion (karuṇā), empathetic joy (muditā), equanimity (upekkhā)
tsume-eri
the style of high western collar often seen in gakuran style uniforms. its the style of the demon slayer uniform.
tattsuke-hakama
the type of hakama worn for the corps' uniform where the bottom hem is bound into the kyahan shin guards.
umanori
essentially is means "horse-riding". umanori-hakama are divided/split hakama with two pant legs designed for riding horses. undivided hakama are full skirts with no pant legs and are worn over kimono, which can't accomodate a "split" or "divide".
keikogi
a type of garb commonly used for juudo or other martial arts practitioners. also known as a dougi or keigi. if you've ever seen a juudo match, they are likely wearing a keikogi.
waraji
traditional straw-woven sandals. similar to zoori, but because they are completed straw, they are significantly more flexible.
furisode
a long, flowing style of sleeve seen on kimono. generally furisode sleeves are considered formal and are reserved for young unmarried women (but not always!)
Next, a quick summary of the currently serving Hashira as of the beginning of Summer 1908.
Yanagizawa Yoriha
Dragon Hashira, 38 years old. She is the eldest serving hashira and de facto "leader" due to being in a position of seniority over the others. Has tanned skin marred with battle scars and shaved blond hair bar her side-swept bangs which cover her left eye and facial scarring. Has a very tall, muscular build.
Rengoku Shinjurou
Flame Hashira, 36 years old. Akihito's sworn brother. The Master of the Chrysanthemum Estate and Head of the Rengoku Family. He has lost himself to alcoholism since the death of his beloved wife, Ruka, one year ago. Unruly blonde hair with ends dipped in red, and vibrant red-and-gold eyes.
Urokodaki Ritsunoko
Water Hashira, 35 years old. She is Urokodaki Sakonji's only child and lives with Sen Watanobu at the Forest Estate. Long blue-black hair kept in a high tail, and bright sky blue eyes. She always wears a white kitsune mask with blue and red paint. She is Giyuu's master.
Sen Watanobu
Ice Hashira, 29 years old. He was once the tsuguko of Urokodaki Shouhaku, who was Sakonji's elder brother. After Shouhaku's death, he was too young to inherit his title, so continued training under Ritsunoko until promotion. Lives with her at the Forest Estate. Wavy navy hair kept in a low tail, and sad blue eyes.
Kakutani Akihito
Wind Hashira, 35 years old. Shinjurou's sworn brother. Master of the Spring Estate and Head of the Kakutani Family. Long, straight black hair with green eyes, the picture of nobility. Although he is older than Watanobu, he was promoted after the boy, making Watanobu his senior in rank - despite this he commonly sits with Yoriha and Shinjurou out of respect for his seniority in age and circumstance.
Himejima Gyoumei
Stone Hashira, 20 years old. A former monk turned demon slayer. He lives with Yanagizawa Yoriha at the Steel Estate. You should know this guy :')
Kakutani Yoake
Crane Hashira, 15 years old. Heir to the Spring Estate and daughter of the last Wind Hashira, Kakutani Atsuhito. Very long black hair kept in a low dolphin tail, gold eyes. She is the youngest currently serving hashira and the only practitioner of her esoteric breathing art.
Uzui Tengen
Sound Hashira, 16 years old. A former shinobi turned demon slayer. You should also know this guy :')

Imagining if Doctor Who was Brasilian...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCv5o7n_mtk
So, you may remember that link over this paragraph, wich was a trailer reimagining if Doctor Who was an american show, to celebrate the 50 anniversary that happened six years ago.
Inspired by that video, i haved this idea to post my fan cast, reimagining who could play the Doctor if the show was produced in Brazil. I have no ambition to wait for any TV Show to buy the rights of adaptation from the BBC, this is just a fun way to introduce you for some of the most talented actors and actresses of my country, and i will not go with all Thirteen encarnations, because that would demand a lot of brain cargo.
In no particular order, here it goes seven brasilian actors who could bring great charm and charisma to the character of the Doctor.
Tumblr media
Born in the city of São Paulo (Saint Paul) on March’s 01 of 1965, Miwa Yanagizawa is an prolific and aclaimed theater actress and director in 1989. Starting on TV in 1991 with a minisseries called Filhos do Sol (Sons of the Sun), though she continues to show up on television, it’s hardly with high lights. All of her roles were secondary (a deepo synthom of how badly brasilian television and cinema represents the significant japanese comunity that we have).
Tumblr media
She started to get some atention with roles in the telenovelas (yes, you thinked that only México produced this ones?) Viver a Vida (Live the Life), Morde e Assopra (Bite and Blows) and Sol Nascente (Rising Sun, of wich his role as Mieko Tanaka is pictured above with the hat). But they are usually stereotyped as the kind and motterly figures who usually fall under the radar in favor of young protagonists. Worst, this telenovela called Rising Sun that i mentioned? She did play the sister of a japanese character who have importance for being the leading heroine’s adoptive father, and this character of her brother was played by A WHITE GUY! And this was in 2016, we still do this shit!
Tumblr media
The closest to a role diferent of the kind and sweet type was in the telenovela Bite and Blow from 2011. Tough still a mother of a side character, she have the chance to show a more stern and severe side in the role of the traditionalist and conservative Tieko. If she played the Doctor, somebody with a tough and exterior learning how to thrust people and acept them as his friends would be a performance that i believe she totally could explore and be successful.
Tumblr media
Mohamed Harfouch is a syrian origin actor born at October’s 29 of 1977, in the city of Rio de Janeiro. He has a long career on television, my favorite role of his being the romantic musician Romeo in a kid’s show called Teca na TV (Teca on TV, pictured down here).
Tumblr media
He is now establishing himself in telenovelas. While all of this roles have been side characters, they still are a little more varied, alowing him to show from comedic to dramatic range, in rules such as the travelling lebanese barber and doctor Farid in 2011′s Cordel Encantado (Enchanted Cordel) and the palestinian medicine student Pérsio Farouk in 2013′s Amor à Vida (Love to Life).
If he played the Doctor, it would probably start with a broading and mysterious apearance, but lather reveal the more funny, energetic, kind and helpfull side of the character.
Tumblr media
Born at December’s 15 of 1969, Luis Miranda is recently gaining mainstream popularity in Brasil due to his role as transgender woman Dorothy Benson in 2014′s telenovela Geração Brasil (Generation Brazil). But he has an extablished career in theater comedy, with the role of comunity leather Edith (pictured down below) in the show Terça Insana (Insane Thursday) probably being his most famous.
But he also showed facility in more serious roles, such as the sleazy politician Ulisses in 2011′s TV Movie Homens de Bem (Man of Good) and the villanous Reverend Magalhães in 2013′s Film Trampolim do Forte (Fort’s Trampoline).
With such a varied of range, there is a very unpredictable Doctor, who could always surprise each episode.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Born at the city of Cajazeiras in Octuber’s 27 of 1963, Marcélia Cartaxo gained great aclaim as the naive Macabéa in 1985′s cinematic adaptation of the classic novel A Hora da Estrela (The Time of the Star, pictured down below):
Tumblr media
After this role, tough, most of his roles had being very sided, and sufered similar stereotiping as Miwa Yanagizawa’s. But she is starting to break this after working in Fort’s Trampoline as Dona do Céu (pictured down bellow with the yellow dress), an autoritarian  and fanatically religious mother of the boy Felizardo. If she followed the line of using the smiley facade as a way to manipulate his enemyes, his Doctor could be an excelent experiment for her range as an actress.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Born with the name Paulo Rogério da Silva at December 18 of 1970 in the city of Fortaleza, poet, singer, composer, acor, director and dramaturgist Gero Camilo has being particurally prolific in comedic movie roles, like Firmino in 2004′s Narradores de Javé (Narrators of Javé) and Zé Burraldo in 2007′s Pequenas Histórias (Little Histories, pictured down bellow).
Tumblr media
However, he also haved the chance to show range in dramas such as in 2003′s Carandiru and voice acting the protagonist of 2010′s animated short adaptation of the teatrical poem Morte e Vida Severina (Life and Death Severina). His Doctor could be very expressive, genuinelly and explicitly funny, kind and show a lot of otimism, pathos and empathy in the most dark and dramatic situations.
Tumblr media
Born in Salvador at January’s 01 of 1970, João Miguel’s rise to fame came trough his role as the murderous cook Raimundo Nonato in 2008′s film Estômago (Stomach, pictured above). Three years later, he worked in the telenovela Enchanted Cordel playing the role of sensitive bandito Bel (pictured down bellow).
Tumblr media
After that, his stardom just keeps growing. He is now playing a Ezequiel, an aparently villanous character on Netflix’s 3 %, the first brasilian sci fi distopian TV series (pictured down bellow). So yes, he is no strange to the genre. If you either direct him be simpathetic, funny, misterious, scary, you can be very sure that he is totally capable of naturally pulling all this emotions at the same time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Born at October’s 15 of 1964 in Rio de Janeiro, acting since his youth in the 90s, Denise Fraga’s started his rise to fame in series of comedic sketches at the variety sunday show Fantástico. She usually played roles inspired by the lives of various wimen in diferent regions of the country, whose histories she collected. After that period, she shined with his performance as ex theater actress, buddist and astrologist Bia in 2008′s minisseries Queridos Amigos (Dear Friend’s, pictured down bellow), who tried to maintaing a joyous face despite the trauma of being phisically tortured during the Brasilian Military Dictatorship:
Tumblr media
And also as the traumatized guerrila veteran Vera in the 2013′s film Hoje (Today, also pictured down bellow), who is learning to acept the death of husband during the same period:
Tumblr media
Her Doctor could be very excitable at the possibility of having an adventure, wanting to share his passionate curiosity with his friends, and always want to do the right thing despite being afraid and vulnerable.
So, that’s all for today. Say in the coments bellow what you tought of the pictures and sugestions of this actors, and if you have any curiosity to know any of their works ;)

I due si separano con la promessa, da parte del più giovane, di telefonarsi.
