I had first seen a play through of yttd (Michaela laws) and she did the emotion route (reko/kanna).
I found out that I could just play the game for myself so I started playing from chapter 3A. I decided to skip the recap and just play. I chose the alice and shin route because I hadn’t seen it before.
I pressed on like “oh Sara is kinda fucked!” Thinking that was normal. And then the scene in the classroom happened with ranmaru and I was thoroughly baffled.
And then Alice fucking died and I was sad all day.

I finally finished playing the yttd emotion route AND the mini episodes (I had only played through the logic route beforehand), and it made me want to doodle a bunch of characters I haven't drawn yet. Except for the top two. I just wanted to draw Joe and Ranmaru.

Maybe it wasn’t a very logical decision after all.

I have to confess that my first route when playing YTTD was the logic route, NOT because I wanted to vote for Kanna or cared about Sou in any way shape or form, but because I thought that if I made the wrong decision I’d get a game over. So my dumb ass just went to the playthrough I was going to for help when solving puzzles and did what they did. I was DEVASTATED by Kanna dying, and then I went on with the game and it asked me who died and I was like “wait, you could CHOOSE?!?!?” so yeah. I’m stupid.

Some people dislike logic route for Shin's inactivity, thinking it is inferior to his previous behavior, but... I feel like him not having energy left is natural. While him not doing much may be yet another trick or manipulation, maybe he's just that tired. For a guy who has witnessed sister figure's death, has lived in constant tension last four days, was hit with a frying pan (given how abnormally weak he is) and on top of that has to deal with ex-friend that had ruined his life Shin is doing relatively alright.
I'm honestly surprised by his ability to still maintain something similar to composure

I remember watching YTTD playthroughs on YouTube after 3-1b came out and seeing a lot of people in the comments hating on the logic route and going on about how Nankidai must have intended for it to be some sort of “punishment” for choosing Sou over Kanna and like. I’m sorry. Did you not see the appeal of Ranmaru going beast mode. Did you really feel punished when Sou got offended at the drink machine because Sara lied about it having soup. Ranmaru murking one of the Yabusames was a small price to pay for “That would make it look like the interior of your head Miss Sara 😄” .

Lot’s of things to mention here!
1. Shin hesitates before saying “I’ll kill you.” The three little dots indicate that, but it’s hard to tell if his pause is from the shock of watching Kanna die, or if he’s trying to find words for a new thought process that he hadn’t fully embraced.
2. Shin saying “It’s all worthless,” is rough. He’s gone through the death game  assuming he’ll die, and at the end finally found the resolve to do so by dying for someone he loves. But that was stopped, ironically enough, because he’s a stronger asset then Kanna. And the people who tore away his choice are the people who he almost began to trust.
Putting his faith in people, becoming stronger, protecting someone he cared about, trying to escape, it was all just worthless.
Two More Points Undercut
3. The tragedy of Shin’s character is that he wants to trust everyone. Even the floormasters are people that he hoped were good deep down. But then Gashu takes his own life so his sister will die, and Tia carries out her execution without remorse. He’s shown that he can’t rely on anyone. Not the floormasters nor his “allies.” He’s alone, and all his hope for humanity has shattered.
But the more interesting implications are that he wants to kill the floormasters as well. He does say he wants to kill everyone “that killed Kanna,” so I think it’s fair to think that he’s gunning for them too. Which...wouldn’t it be a jaw drooping plot twist if he killed Tia? Or even someone as powerful as Meister? And how would it effect his rivalry with Sara if he murdered her Father? So many things could come of this.
4. Shin says Sara will be first. If that ends up being true, we might play as a protagonist other than Sara for a bit in the final chapter. Which I imagine would likely be Shin.
This dialogue is so interesting and gives you plenty to analyze. The end of the second main game is so well written.

3b Spoilers
This is something I haven’t seen discussed much despite having a lot of potential— what’s your opinion on the surviving dummy (Kurumada, Mai, Hayasaka) at the end of the banquet?
It’s easy to miss it, I’d assume in no small part to to the fact it’s not an active choice but based entirely on which coffins you randomly select.
I’m just surprised I haven’t seen a single theory mention this at all. What do you think?
