Teacher warns students not to spoil 'Avengers: Endgame' with fantastic note
Tumblr media
This is One Good Thing, a weekly column where we tell you about one of the few nice things that happened this week.
The first weekend of Avengers: Endgame is finally upon us, and people are desperate to avoid any spoilers for the highly-anticipated film.
In a desperate attempt to keep the details of the plot at bay, fans have been blocking certain keywords on social media, avoiding some news sites, and taking other desperate measures. There's even a notable #Don'tSpoilTheEndgame hashtag on Twitter.
In this tweet from @kamiilious, her teacher made sure their students knew that there would be absolutely no discussion of the film in his classroom by posting a long and hilarious note of warning.
My teacher is so serious he just had to make note of it😂#AvengersEndGame pic.twitter.com/ghoNheDIIW

In the letter, the teacher explains that he is waiting until Wednesday to see the film with his brother, and he wont tolerate any spoilers in the classroom.
"So help me Jeebus if any one of you spoils a single frame of this movie for me, I promise I will make you wish that Thanos snapped your narrow a**," the end of the letter jokes.
Kamiilious later clarified that the letter was definitely just a joke.
WE TOOK NO OFFENSE TO WHAT THE TEACHER SAID. SO PLEASE STOP SAYING ITS BULLYING OR WHATSOEVER. ITS ALL HUMOR GUYS!
— Kamilious🤩 (@kamiilious) April 26, 2019
Some might call this extreme, but for those who are unable to see the movie right away it seems like a necessary precaution. It's very sweet of him to wait for his brother to come back so they can see it together. I know several people who wouldn't do the same for any family member or friend.

Watch these cats be the only protectors their garden needs
Tumblr media
youtube
Let this video be the sole evidence in banishing the stereotype that cats are afraid of dogs. Because these cats certainly are not.
Meet the garden guardians whose main purpose is to protect the garden they inhabit. According to YouTube poster walter santi, the "rolling cat" helms the front lines. If the dog can get past that cat, "D'Artagnan's girlfriend" is waiting patiently as the second line of defense.
Supposedly, the dog has never gotten past D'Artagnan's girlfriend, but if that ever happens, there's a total of 7 outdoor cats living in the garden. The creator of this YouTube account also has a dog, Walter, and two indoor cats, Santi and Indy.
Those three animals combined with their army of outdoor cats means the neighbor's dog probably isn't getting into the garden anytime soon, try as she might.

'Jeopardy!' champion surpasses $1 million in winnings in just 14 games
Tumblr media
James Holzhauer is by now, a household name. Well, maybe if you're a 'Jeopardy!' fan.
On Tuesday night Holzhauer became the second person to cross the $1 million mark in total earnings on the show. The only other person to accomplish this feat was Jeopardy! hall-of-famer Ken Jennings, whose 74-day winning streak totaled him about $2.5 million. If Holzhauer's hot streak continues, he could reach that number in a fraction of the time.
While he has only been on the show for 14 games, he has shattered records. He not only holds the record for the most money earned in a single show, as of last night he holds the top five spots for that list.
Holzhauer's rate of racking up money has inspired the Jeopardy! website to put a graphic on their website called the "James Holzhauer Tracker" that lists his stats.
Tumblr media
Image: jeopardy.com
Tumblr media

His winnings have a lot of people concerned about where Jeopardy! will get the funds, since their average winner banks about $20,000 per episode. Often game shows like Jeopardy! that have an element of unpredictability in the amount of money they hand out have some sort of insurance policy for rare events like the Holzhauer reign. So don't be too scared for the financial stability of the show.
Besides, with his betting strategy, Holzhauer could find himself in real jeopardy with just one disastrous Daily Double.

Raptors head coach becomes next best NBA meme with a priceless reaction shot
Tumblr media
We are in NBA playoff season folks, and that means new memes... cue Nick Nurse cracking his knuckles and getting ready to wow us.
Nurse is the head coach of the Toronto Raptors, and a veteran in the "priceless facial reactions" department. His latest reaction came when a three-second violation was called against Raptors player Fred VanVleet.
The Raptors were never in any real danger of losing. They ended up winning the game 107-85, putting the Raptors at a 3-1 lead against the Orlando Magic in the seven game series. But Nurse's reaction was still the best part of the game.

'Jeopardy!' champion breaks single-game winnings record, takes home $131,127
Tumblr media
youtube
If you're a Jeopardy! fan you've no doubt heard the name James Holzhauer, who cleaned house by earning $131,127 in a single game on Wednesday.
This was Holzhauer's tenth straight win on the game show, and his fourth time breaking the record for most money earned on the show in a single night. This time, he broke his own record of $110,914, and has now earned a grand total of $697,787 so far, with no sign of stopping any time soon.
Holzhauer now holds four of the top five spots in the list of top earnings in a single show. The only other man on that list is Roger Craig in fifth place.
Holzhauer is a professional sports gambler, which explains his strategic approach to choosing questions worth more money first and larger than average bets on Daily Doubles.

Having a long-distance best friend can be tough. Here's how to make it easier.
Tumblr media
Best friends are undoubtedly, well ... the best. They're the first people you want to share exciting news with; the ones who know you better than anyone else. Having a new friend reach "best friend level" is an incredibly special moment that can only be expressed through this GIF:
Tumblr media
Image: giphy
We meet our best friends at different points in our lives, and the longer we have those friends, the more likely it is that the friendship will become a long-distance one at some point, as either or both of you move for school or work or life. Theoretically, modern technology and social media should make being long-distance best friends easy, but there's far more to it than that.
SEE ALSO: Netflix's 'Paddleton' shows how desperately we need the words to describe our more-than-friendships
FaceTime, instant messages, and constant social media stories keep us connected to our friends, but staying connected isn't quite the same as staying close. You may feel yourselves start to drift apart, and while this is completely natural, there are steps you can take to help keep that friendship fresh and present in your life.
The importance of intimacy
"One of the biggest drivers of who you’re friends with is just pure proximity," says Theresa DiDonato, a professor at Loyola University Maryland and an expert in intimacy. But beyond proximity, intimacy is the secret to long-lasting friendships.
"Intimacy is a function of self-disclosure — and you can do self-disclosure of facts or you can do self-disclosure of really important emotional stuff that you’re going through," says DiDonato. It may be easier with nearby friends, who know the ins and outs of your day and how you feel about any given topic at any given time, just because you're around them. But you can also create that intimacy with people you don't see regularly.
Nobody talks about it. We don't take it seriously, but long distance friendship is as hard and as beautiful as a long distance relationship. To have a friend, miles away, smiling in your joy, and crying in your pain is the biggest blessing
— ʳʳᵃ (@rrayourbae) February 11, 2019
Pick up the phone and call
Some of my friends live a couple of states away; others are a few timezones away. We all do that thing you see in '80s romcoms, where people pick up the phone and actually call each other. Scheduling times to do that, or even picking up the phone at random to dial a friend when you think of them, can be instrumental in keeping up your level of intimacy.
Texting is great and can be really convenient if you live in drastically different time zones, but there's really no replacement for talking to someone. You're able to convey so much more information through talk than through text, and hearing your friend's voice in real time will make you feel closer to them than just reading their messages.
Having regular interactions keeps your friends present in your lives, even if what you're talking about doesn't seem that important. Telling someone about your day may not seem like it's bringing you closer to someone, but having them know what you're excited about or frustrated over allows them to know you better. That's the intimacy part of things that the experts say is so important.
Take it from two besties: When they moved across the country from each other, Aminatou Sow and Ann Friedman committed to scheduling weekly phone calls. Their talks about politics and pop culture and everything in between wasn't just good for their friendship, it also turned into a hugely popular podcast called Call Your Girlfriend. Never underestimate the power of friendship!
Keep creating new memories with your best friend
It helps if you're continuing to build new experiences with each other and focusing on creating new memories rather than dwelling on old ones. Reminiscing on old memories is great, but without building new ones your friendship isn't able to move forward. To do that, think about what you enjoy and can do together, but also apart.
One great long-distance activity is keeping up with the same TV show, since it always gives you something new to talk about. Playing the same video game works too, whether it be an online game with voice chat capabilities or perhaps a good 'ole game of Dungeons and Dragons with a group over FaceTime. For those who can't do something at the same time, keeping up with the same book gives you something to text about.
Tumblr media
Image: Vicky leta / mashable
There are plenty of apps that might help you feel closer through the digital void. Try Rabbit, a website that allows you to video chat and watch online content simultaneously. The Netflix Party Chrome extension will do the same thing, but for Netflix. WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger are really handy if your best friend is in another country.
One of my friends lives on the West Coast, and we keep a Google Spreadsheet of the shows we want to watch. We live text as we view them. I love having her recommend shows to me. It reminds me how similar our tastes are, and she introduces me to new things I know I'll like.
It's different for everyone, of course. The important thing is to find something that you can both commit to, and that helps you keep committing to your friendship.
Plan visits as often as possible
No matter where you are, you can't stay in touch if you don't put in the time. Make the effort to plan a yearly trip to see each other, whether you're visiting each other's towns or going somewhere new.
As DiDonato said, "there needs to be not only commitment but investment." The investment that you put into long-distance friendships is key to maintaining them. And there are some apps that can help you with this, too.
In the lead up to your next reunion, try using one of the many countdown trackers available to help you remember that distance doesn't last forever. There's a website called Time and Date that allows you to have a countdown on your desktop, and they have an app as well.
Journey is a journaling/mood tracker app. It can help keep you in a mentally healthy place if you find that all or most of your best friends are long-distance.
Be gentle with yourself and your friend
Remember to forgive yourself and your friend during times of lessened communication. There are friendships in which you don't talk for months at a time — and then you pick up the phone as if nothing's amiss — and that's fine!
When you’ve got a long distance best friendship. @thickshadyy https://t.co/i1fC0SxzSs
— ✷ astroloca ✷ (@astoldbym) March 26, 2019
Just make sure you're never hesitating to reach out just because it's been a while. Sometimes life gets in the way. Your friend will understand, as long as you talk to them about it.
Keep in mind that your friends love and support you, that's why they're your friends. Reaching out to them when life gets chaotic and complicated is one of the best (and cheapest) forms of therapy; friends will help you through the bad, just as much as they make the good even better. So hold on to your friends, even when distance stands in the way.

Bran Stark is a creep, and here are the memes to back it up
Tumblr media
Warning: This post contains spoilers for Game of Thrones: Season 8, Episode 1
I think we can all admit that Bran Stark's storyline has always been a little more than lackluster on Game of Thrones. Sure he has weird bird powers that allow him to know everyone's secrets, but you know what else that makes him? An absolute creep.
In the pilot of the series, way back in 2011, you may remember Jaime Lannister pushing Bran out of a tower window and causing him to be in the wheelchair he is today. Well, Sunday's episode brought the reunion of Bran and Jaime which created the most interesting plot point in Bran's story line in several years.
Twitter was sure to point out this is the only interesting moment Bran has had in 8 seasons. They touched on his severe degree of pettiness in waiting outside all night in the cold for Jaime to show up, as well as his shudder-inducing stares throughout the entire episode.
So enjoy this ode to Bran's general creep factor expressed exclusively through memes:

Johansson was on the show to promote her love of chicken wings, but more notably her upcoming movie Avengers: Endgame.
She discusses everything from her role as Princess Mindy in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie to attempting to not leak Avengers spoilers. She even learns about the "Infinity War is the most ambitious crossover event in history" meme, and that the fact that memes and GIFs are not the same thing.

The best and worst of the 'hit the woah' challenge
Tumblr media
Every couple of months there's a new viral dance craze. We've had the Harlem shake, Milly rock, dabbing, the whip/nae nae, the mannequin challenge, and how could we forget about flossing? Now we've got the "hit the woah" challenge, and it's taking the internet by storm.
The trend started on TikTok and has since spread far beyond the platform. For anyone not versed in this phenomenon, hitting the woah is when a dancer makes a quick, small circular motion with their fists and leans into a freeze position when the beat drops in a song.
Here is an instructional video on how to execute this move.
Student: “Can you do the woah?” Mariska: “The what?” “The woah.” “Wh— .........Yeah.” “Ok Mariska, hit the woah.” “I don’t know what that means!”#mariskaquotes pic.twitter.com/rl8K2hDPVs
— Mariska Quotes (@Mariska_Quotes) April 3, 2019
And Khalid makes sure to show us how it's done in slow motion.
Adults and teens everywhere are hitting the woah, but the phenomenon has also moved on to kids and cats (as all good trends do). Absolutely anyone can "woah," some are just far better at it than others. So without further ado, here's an assortment of adorable babies, cats, and fully grown humans hitting the woah.
Cats are also very good.
There have been some teachers who really, really, tried, but ultimately failed.
Beloved TV and movie characters from years past came out of the woodwork to prove they were hitting the woah before any of the rest of us.

— Jessica (@Jessica_2171) April 4, 2019
There's even a training video so you can tone all the right muscles to hit the woah with the utmost finesse.
If this list proves anything it's that babies and cats are better at hitting the woah than full grown human are.

13 delicious tweets for when you're overcome with hanger
Tumblr media
There comes a dark dark time in our lives when we experience a little thing called being hangry. It's a truly terrible experience when you find yourself at the intersection of starving and pissed off.
Twitter is the ultimate platform for ranting about your emotions. So there are thousands of tweets about people being hungry, people being angry, and people who have the unfortunate pleasure of being both.
Hanger can be caused by a multitude of different factors. Most often hanger comes from getting angry over the fact that you haven't eaten in a while. But sometimes you can start off angry and become hungry, which typically only fuels anger. You can also be angry because someone has said something to ruin your appetite. Really, the possibilities are endless.
So sit back, grab a snack, and enjoy these beautiful tweets of people being both angry and hungry.

Alfie the alpaca goes on the cutest adventures
Tumblr media
An Ode to... is a weekly column where we share the stuff we're really into in hopes that you'll be really into it, too.
The internet loves anything to do with cute and cuddly animals, and alpacas are no exception. Not to be confused with llamas, alpacas look similar but are a bit smaller. While there are a decent number of alpaca dedicated instagram accounts, this one is particularly adorable.
Alfie is an alpaca from Adelaide, South Australia. Jeff and Sophie, Alfie's parents, took him in in September of 2018. According to Sophie, Jeff loved Alfie at first sight after seeing another man walking him down the street. After a few weeks of research, Jeff had a "yolo moment" and the rest was history.

As cute as Alfie is, please remember that alpacas aren't just like dogs, so if you're thinking about getting one for your own backyard make sure you have done the proper research like Alfie's parents.

Clever dog uses crystal ball to see the front sidewalk, and maybe the future
Tumblr media
Fortune tellers, beware, although if you're really psychic you'll already know: This dog is coming for your job.
Redditor SmallRubyTouringHat posted this picture of their dog, Baja, although they almost exclusively call him Puppy, looking ominously into a crystal ball. Cryptic right?

According to SmallRubyTouringHat, the reflections in the ball allow the pup to see people and cars down the street far before they approach the house. This allows Baja's "predictions" to be pretty doggone accurate.
Not too sure if I believe in psychics, but I would definitely let him tell me my future.
SmallRubyTouringHat submitted the photo to ther subreddit r/funny on Monday, where it hit the frontpage and received over 80,000 upvotes at the time of writing.

Professors commenting on quiz doodles will make your day
Tumblr media
This is One Good Thing, a weekly column where we tell you about one of the few nice things that happened this week.
Doodling can be a great way to get the creative juices flowing, to help concentrate during class, or to kill time when you're done taking a test.
Drawing during class is often frowned upon and scolded by teachers who think that their students are paying too much attention to their creations and not the lecture. However, some professors applaud their students artistic endeavors.
When Kaitlyn Kearns was finishes with her mechanical systems class quizes, she uses the extra time to draw out these adorable sea creatures. Her professor leaves the sweetest responses to the doodles the back of the assignments.
My professor always comments on my back-of-quiz doodles and it’s very pure pic.twitter.com/HPOsM6BYtI

After sharing the images, Twitter responded with a collective "aww."
Her professor's comments and encouragement elevated the already cute cartoons to a new level of wholesome.
Lots of people were curious to know if she'd done well on these quizzes considering she had the time to draw such pretty pictures. She assured her audience that she only drew pictures when she was sure she'd gotten everything right, but didn't have any more content to share since that class had gotten increasingly difficult.
Kearns is an undergraduate studying mechanical engineering at the University of Kentucky and hopes to create a webcomic about the struggles of college life. Based off of the outcry for more drawings, she seems to have quite the audience already built in.
Since people seem interested: - I only draw if I’m sure I did it right and I have extra time - I did get As on all these quizzes - currently don’t have more to post cause the class got harder 🤷🏻‍♀️ Please keep posting your doodles tho they’re so cute 💙

It turns out Kearns isn't the only one whose teacher remarks on class time drawings. Many other students shared their artwork on the thread with similar engagement from their teachers.

Some teachers added on to their students' doodles, bringing them to life just a bit more.

Let's hope Kaitlyn's class gets easier so she can giver her people what they crave, more back-of-quiz doodles!
