🌟🌟🌟🌟 🌟(5/5) . What happens when the hero of legend fails to fulfill the prophecy and, instead of saving the world, enslaves it? The first entry in the Mistborn trilogy is thrilling while striking a deeply profound chord. There are so many elements to this story which make it one of the most well-written pieces of fiction I’ve ever read: from the complex magic system of Allomancy which reads more like a science-based martial art than magic, to its untangling of complex issues like slavery, rape, classism and religion, Mistborn: the Final Empire sets high expectations and then surpasses them. Sanderson is a master of real-time action scenes as well as real-time conversation and social networks. Listening to the audiobook version of this masterpiece set those high-intensity sequences into unforgivable motion, and as a result I was often captivated by the narrative, spirited completely away into Sanderson’s rich world.
