If you were having a good day, think about the fact that after Clear dies, Aoba is left without him for a little over a year, then he is fixed and returns to him but six months later (after the events of re:connect), Clear suddenly malfunctions and his original processing systems continue to deteriorate from the damage he sustained at Platinum Jail and the only thing that can save Clear is to transfer his brain/consciousness/soul into a “new” alpha body.

Clear is scared of the idea, fearing he might default into an alpha while Aoba is trying to keep it together, fearing he might lose Clear a second time…so they both hold on to the precious moments they have now and they can do nothing but count down the days until Clear eventually shuts down completely; and also think about the fact that Clear asks Aoba that when he stops working or when Aoba dies, can they go to eternal sleep (die) together and to that Aoba says yes and they make that a sacred promise between one another. To die together whenever Clear or Aoba’s limited time comes.

They will never grow old together, they will never live long lives with each other, and they can only make the best of what borrowed time they have left. Even if Clear wasn't slowly deteriorating and shutting down little by little, there's still the fact that Clear is an andriod whilst Aoba is a human and human lives always end in due time. Aoba will die and Clear will be left alone or either destroy himself, as he sees a world without Aoba a world not worth living in. With ClearAo, there is no eternal love. Only love that runs on an unpredictable time limit.

Yes, it's realistic because life is just as unpredictable as death, but there's essentially no happy ending with ClearAo. Only an ending after a limited period of trying to make the best of however little time they had left.
