In defense of anti-Israel people, it doesn't seem the fairest to consider any of their political art to be antisemitic for showing the Star of David in a negative light (such as censoring, breaking, being stabbed, etc) when that *is* the only symbol for the State (save for stripes, which I've seen represented too but less). How else are they supposed to criticize it visually? You can only use Netanyahu as a strawman so many times. The institutional and historical issues are more extensive than him or anyone like him. The recent branding with the Star of David of a Palestinian by an Israeli cop (assuming that's true, which looks like it as far as I can tell) shows the symbol can be used for evil. We should maybe make some exceptions to what we might otherwise consider antisemitic. I'm reminded of a graphic novel I read called "Dictatorship: It's Easier Than You Think", which mostly sarcastically criticized and compared various historical regimes. I felt it was a little too biased in a lot of ways, but it made one point I find relevant here. It said that populist ideologies create symbols that represent large swathes of marginalized people so if you criticize that ideology you can be framed for being prejudiced. It talked about how the communist/Soviet symbol was hammer and sickle, representing workers, so if you opposed communism/Soviet Union/etc., they could just say you were classist. (I personally have more sympathy for communism/Soviet Union so I somewhat disagree but I believe you said you're more anti-communist than I am so this might be more agreeable to you). To pull this back to my main point, maybe it isn't fair to have a historically violent nation be able to always have the ability to attribute criticism of it to one of the world's oldest bigotries? Don't get me wrong, I am a Zionist and I do think there's value in Israel asserting itself as Jewish and representing Jews. Enough Jews get associated with Israel by antisemites when they have no affiliation with it or even oppose it, so there's not much real value in trying to separate. And I do believe criticism of Israel and Zionism crosses over into antisemitism more than critics would like to admit. But I'm just making a point about iconography here. I half-wish that Israel went with one of the earlier flag designs of the Menorah or Lion so iconography could be more clear-cut. But maybe it shouldn't be.

A few thoughts on this:

The menorah would be functionally identical to the Magen David in terms of potentially causing confusion / inspiring hate from critique. The lion just isn't as good, though YMMV

It isn't hard for cartoonists to caricature political leaders like Netanyahu, it is in fact their job, if you can call it that.

I don't recall seeing as much specifically blood- and killing-oriented imagery around Muslim crescents. The flag of Pakistan has the crescent on it, people making a cartoon criticizing Pakistan would hopefully not leap to showing the crescent as a knife beheading someone

All things are not equal and the political artists just have to cope with that and work a little harder. It does make a difference that Jews are a persecuted, frequently-genocided group controlling such a tiny land area. If the hammer-and-sickle was only used as the flag symbol of North Korea, which was the only Korean country, and most ethnic Koreans lived there after having been wiped out everywhere else, maybe people would have to be more careful with how they negatively portrayed that symbol.

We need to wake the hell up

I have seen more horrific and devastating images coming from Gaza in the past week than ever before but the images I saw two days ago have got to be the worst I’ve ever seen in my entire life.

The settler colony of Israel bombed Al Ahli hospital in Gaza killing at least 810 people while hundreds more are buried beneath the wreckage. Instagram was full of nightmare footage; videos and images of the aftermath of the blast; bodies strewn everywhere, blood on the floor, fires ranging, people covered in soot and dust running for cover. There was a video of a man carrying the remains of his son in plastic bags. The REMAINS of his son because his body had been blasted apart, like so many others. There were body parts laying everywhere that it is going to be next to impossible to accurately determine how many people have died. That hospital had displaced people seeking refuge, doctors, nurses and aid workers trying to heal the already massive amount of wounded from the previous bombings. All wiped out, massacred in minutes. As all of this was happening, Hananya Naftali, who creates digital content for Israel’s Prime Minister posted a now-deleted tweet saying that the Israeli Air Force struck a Hamas terrorist base inside the hospital but as soon as footage came out of the civilian deaths, they deleted the evidence, instead claiming that it was a failed rocket launched by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad that was the cause of the bombing, which the group issued a statement on denying the claims.

Nobody is reporting about this, nobody is reporting that they admitted it and then retracted it. Nobody is mentioning that they do this all the time. Nobody is mentioning how this would not be the first hospital the zionist settler colony of Israel has bombed. They have destroyed hospitals, clinics, targeted ambulances, killed medics, murdered civilians while they slept in the merciless bombardment of homes. Entire families wiped out from the civil registry. Many had fled from the north of Gaza after the call by the settler colony for them to move to the South in 24 hours for their ‘safety’. Then they slaughtered them on the road while they travelled. Two days ago, the settler colony of Israel bombed a UN humanitarian aid warehouse containing wheat flour, powdered milk and other basic necessities for survival. 95% of the water in Gaza is contaminated and will lead to severe sickness and disease. Many more will die from starvation and infections from poor treatment of injuries. What diabolical, deranged mind intentionally butchers innocent civilians? What is happening in Palestine can no longer be described as genocide or even ethnic cleansing. It is beyond mass extermination- it is total erasure and we are watching it happen. The human race is capable of the most depraved and heinous actions. We are no strangers to mass killings, to dehumanising other people. It is splattered all over our history books and we STILL DO NOT LEARN. History is constantly repeating itself; the slave trade, the Holocaust, Apartheid, the Rwandan genocide, the Srebrenica genocide and so much more violence and bloodshed all over the world. We need to WAKE THE FUCK UP! When does it end?

Are we not all human beings? Are we not made up of the same flesh and blood? The same exact body parts, capable of the same emotions? Do we not all do the same things; eat, sleep, work, shit, go out? Everyone is quick to believe the most horrific actions by the Palestinians but when the settler colony bombs civilians on the road or a HOSPITAL, they are ‘defending’ themselves. The mainstream media houses are on the side of the oppressors and publishing news stories that are incorrect and using language that instills anti-Palestinian sentiment. Everyone is so ready to accept the image of the angry Arab, the evil muslim, the heinous savagery innate to our identity that they don’t even stop to question whether this is factual information or not. All this islamophobia and racism is a result of the West and their control over the media, pushing hate and discrimination down people’s throats.

This antagonism has led to bigoted attacks on innocent muslims in other countries. In Milan, a man assaulted UNICEF fundraisers raising money for Gaza. He was caught on video yelling at the workers while saying that he would ‘’kill’ them if they said the word ‘Palestine’ one more time. Here is the result of all the racism that is being pushed out into the world.

We have to get the truth from social media of all places. From people in Gaza themselves who are sharing their horror stories. The settler colony has cut off basic needs for the people in Gaza to survive; food, water, electricity-threatening to bomb aid trucks if they try to enter the city. All because the Palestinians had enough and tried to take back their land by any means necessary. These people have been pushed to the brink. They don’t care if they live or die as long as they defend themselves after years of being helpless. If what Hamas did was dropping a stone in the ocean, the settlers responded with a tsunami.

Today, the fear of what comes next is looming larger for Palestinians than the cruelty of the world’s apparent indifference to their suffering.

Don’t just push for a ceasefire or peace, push for their liberation. A ceasefire is temporary, even the so called ‘peace’ that everyone is touting is temporary. A halt to the violence will not free the Palestinians. When the settler colony of Israel stops bombing Gaza it will mean peace for the settlers but not the Palestinians, because peace for the settlers means the Palestinians remain living under military occupation, living under apartheid, living under the rule of a settler colony. They will still be trapped in an open air prison, they will still not be in their rightful homes, they will still have to endure checkpoints and searches in their OWN COUNTRY. The 500+ Israeli military checkpoints set up all throughout Palestinian land in the West Bank to restrict Palestinian movement will still exist; a checkpoint system only for Palestinians, not the zionist settlers. They have the freedom to go wherever and do whatever they want. A checkpoint system that is innately violent, where thousands of Palestinians line up every single day for their IDs to be checked, for their bags to be searched, their bodies to be searched, for their cars to be scanned by metal detectors. Lined up at a checkpoint with Israeli guards who are pointing guns directly at the Palestinians while they’re being searched. They have to wait for hours to pass through, in silence.

Now in this image, is there peace? Yes. But is there freedom? No. Is there equality? Fuck no. So peace for the zionist settlers means silence from the Palestinians. Settlers can only uphold their peace and freedom as long as the Palestinians are quiet and not resisting. And how does the West portray Palestinians as soon as they start resisting? Terrorists. The settler colony’s Minister of Defence called them ‘human animals’.

If you open Apple, Google or any other digital map and type Palestine, you will not find it. You will only find Israel. If you’re lucky, you may be directed to a small patchwork of what is called ‘Palestinian Territories’ firmly imbedded inside Israel lest anyone mistakenly think it is an independent nation. And of course, you will find nowhere on any map the key word that comes before Palestinian Territories to lay bare the ugly, but necessary and harrowing truth: Occupied.

In an ideal future, yes peace would be nice. It would be great actually. But we cannot accept and push this narrative when the system itself that the Israeli colony is built on, at its core, is not peaceful. The system itself is violent. The way that it was established was not peaceful. The way it’s maintained is not peaceful. And that’s why so many Palestinians say, ‘we don’t want peace, we want freedom’. Peace is not going to solve the occupation, the military blockade. And here’s the thing, the occupation in Palestine is tied to the West. First because the Israeli colony is supported and literally funded by the West. Second, the US and settler colony of Israel were built the same way. The US is just a lot older, just much further down in the timeline than the settler colony of Israel which is only 75 years old. There is an incredible amount of parallels between these two and that’s why they stick together.

For instance, at this very moment, peace for the US means silence for the blacks. When black people stand up and attempt to resist a system that was built on the backs of black slaves, whether through peaceful or non peaceful forms of resistance, white America will always view these movements as violent, as a disruption to peace. When in reality, it’s disruption to peace for white people. That’s why when Black Lives Matter started to gain traction, white America lost it’s shit. Because Black people were attempting to resist and reject a system that is built on their silence and if they even think to open their mouth, they’re violent. They don’t want peace. Accept the system, accept the status quo or you don’t want peace. That’s what the narrative they want us to believe.

The same thing happened in South Africa. The natives were forced to accept colonisation, accept theft of their land or that means they don’t want peace. They want violence. That’s just the nature of colonisation, that’s how it works. It’s freedom for settlers built on the backs of the indigenous people.

So when we talk, post and share on social media about Palestine, we cannot accept the narrative of peace and insinuate that that’s the solution. When peace equals freedom of the Palestinians, that’s when it’s acceptable. On social media, the hashtag isn’t #peaceforpalestine, it’s #FREEPALESTINE. The objective is liberation of Palestine, calling for peace only is helping the zionist’s cause because that means we think the Palestinians are violent and that we support violence. But that worry and that fear is literally proof of peace being used as a tool to suppress rejection of their status quo.

We need to start viewing this conflict the way it actually is, not the way mainstream media, the West and the zionists want us to see it. We need to define what Israel and Palestine clearly are. Israel is NOT a country but a SETTLER COLONY occupying the COUNTRY of PALESTINE. This is coloniser vs colonised. Same way white Europeans landed in North America and decided to claim the land as their own despite the native population, white Europeans landed in Palestine and decided to claim it as their own despite the indigenous Palestinian population.

The simple truth is that the word Palestine is deeply damaging to the settler colony of Israel’s image on the international stage. The word Palestine carries with it so much universally recognised victimhood and so many stories of oppression, subjugation and genocide that when it is included in the conversation, the settler colony simply cannot dispute, however desperately it tries to, it’s crimes. The moral weight of Palestine is so heavy that every time the word is uttered, you can hear the deflating hiss from the settler’s public relations bubble. No amount of beach resorts, tech and agricultural wizards can wipe the permanent stain of Palestinian blood off the settler’s hands. Which is why the settler colony believes that the only way to get rid of this heavy moral burden of Palestine is to quite literally GET RID of Palestine altogether and that includes completely erasing it from the map. And yet, it is the settler colony of Israel that is recognised by the UN, is a member of the UN and stands in front of the General Assembly, year after year, pleading to be protected from the ‘barbarian’ nations that supposedly wish to erase it from the map. The irony and the hypocrisy is real.

I urge each and every one of you reading this right now, if you have any form of social media; whether you have a huge following or even single digit followers, SPEAK UP! Use the power that you have to speak for the voiceless. Share posts about the siege in Gaza, educate yourself, your family and friends. Do not keep quiet. We can use social media as it is intended, to do good, to cast light on the horrific and barbaric attacks on innocent civilians. There are protests all over the world, condemnations from the few countries with right on their side and we can push it along.

Our posts matter, our stories on social media matter, we can make a difference for once. Let us not let history remember that we stood by and watched an entire group of people being utterly erased from existence by another. Let us not turn a blind eye to another catastrophe. Let us be better. Future generations will ask us where we were when all of this happened. Let us give the Palestinians the easiest thing we can give them; an eyewitness account to their pain, their suffering, the denial of their freedom.

In all honesty...

This is... dissapointing and an insult to Historia fans. Why ? What is the purpose or the reason ? Being tragic ? To show how far Historia can go to protect her loved ones ? A female Eren so ?

I always leaned towards the fake pregnancy even if I don't know how something like that could be really pulled. I didn't understand this choice for his storytelling. The others I understand but this one...

So she really is pregnant ? But nothing leading up to it makes sense.

The character whose thematics still rings too much true for this arc is put in the background and as a breeding farm on top of that.

It even came to a point I started people to stop asking about her.

I had faith in her presence in the final arc. That she would have a role play.

But now ?

For people who don't understand why this aspect of story is wrong, we have to break it down.

First off, Historia one of the first queer characters with Ymir in SNK. Others are suspected but these two are the few that holds a definitive representation as queer.

Most often in media or in real life, LGBT people have been forced into a situation that requires them to fall under heterosexuals lives. Here Historia is forced to be pregnant, yes in a way she agreed because of her people, but at the same time she didn't really want it.

For queer people, like me, this still rings true. Too much true. People literally forces you to go for your opposite sex everytime, to have a family.

No, stop forcing your view of your own life or desire of life on other people.

The fact that the fandom rationalizes that and says that she is happy and in love with Eren is just so fucking weird.

It either is blind ship following, heteronormativity or not understanding the story.

And I saw people saying she might be bisexual. This doesn't change anything. Also ignoring the fact that she hasn't shown any attraction to men other than women in the story.

If she is bisexual, it doesn't change anything, she is still queer. Not semi-straight AND EVEN IF SHE WAS A WOMAN WHO HAPPENED TO BE STRAIGHT, SHE IS STILL FORCED INTO SOMETHING SHE DID NOT WANT.

Bisexual is not semi-straight, semi-gay.

It's bisexual.

Bisexual, Straight and Homosexuality are not the same thing.

And if she was straight, that doesn't make it acceptable. It's just sick.

Just because you're a straight woman doesn't mean you are going to be more happy or have god like duty to have kids.

And even worse she wasn't supposed to give birth right now, she was supposed to give birth in a few months.

This goes against what she is supposed to have as a character development.

The fact that she would be okay for genocide while as a queen she reached out to the most weak and in need is fucking incoherent.

No. This doesn't make sense. Even Eren said that Historia's action as a queen were to help others. How could she be okay sitting at her house ? Telling no one about what Eren was going to do ? And becoming a breeding farm ? What is the logic in that ?

Why make it suspicious than ?

The only thing that was able to make any logical sense to me was that the person we are seeing here isn't Historia.

I know if my theory is right, it's sick, even more sick.

The only times we saw Historia after the timeskip was during flashbacks, the reveal at 107 and possibly at the end of 123.

If this is her at the end of 123, I want to ask you why is she all prepared, why is she all dressed up and why is she wearing the same clothes in 134 that she is wearing 107. Something doesn't add up.

She is young, small-petite, blonde and her belly and face are hidden.

I was only able to go through the theory that this is a fake Historia. Than who it is than ?

Well, I searched for female characters who look like her or who could look like Historia right now. From all the characters that we haven't seen coming coming back and that has interacted with Historia, there is only one.

Rico Brzenska.

For those, who don't remember her : She was a Garrison Member who helped Mikasa and Eren during the Trost Arc and also helped Historia while she was exhausted during the Clash of the Titans Arc.

She hasn't appeared ever since the start of the Return to Shiganshina Arc unlike many of the older characters.

She is the only one I see who could pass as Historia I think.

I know this is still sick. But this is the only way I would be able to make Historia get out of this crappy storyline and play some relevance in the story. And if we look at Rico and Historia in 107, they kinda look the same. They have the heart shaped face, they are both small and they both have this sort of closed eyelids.

One line that just stuck with me of Rico was:

"Hiding/Lying about Eren's rampage in the report wouldn't have benefited humanity. "

This was during Eren's trial before joining the Survey Corps. What was discused was when Eren lost control of himself during the Trost Arc and attacked Mikasa.

The second line that struck was the one where she holds Historia who is exhausted in her arms:

"Wow! Who is this girl, is she okay ?"

I don't know why it just pushed that theory. And I kinda believe it now, because no one can make me believe that there is something satisfying coming out of this. Why would she sacrifice herself for Historia ? Well, I don't really know but Rico was always a little wary of Eren, even after the Trost Arc but yeah ultimately for Rico being able to give her own life for Historia. I don't know about that. But with this manga you never now. It is a very dark and twisted theory but this is the only logical thing I can see right now since no answers have been provided.

Zeke is back and like most of us predicted, Eren dragged him with him. And I'm not gonna lie, the way he was attached to the spine was pretty badass.

He is used as a puppet which reinforces the theory for me that all three of them: Eren, Ymir and Zeke are being used by the Attack Titan.

I cannot understand Eren's illogical behavior especially after seeing the train scene where he says he wants them to live long happy lives and than having him kill his friends.

Ymir the first being free and having eyes to returning to having no eyes just like before and Eren.

And Zeke would have never agreed to the Rumbling. And we can't see his eyes either.

And...

Because...

After how much shit they have gone through and after how much the fandom, not just the Eren stans, have mocked them. Like the fandom has been the biggest asshole to the the Alliance while they were the ones who were able to survive through the sentence " Genocide is wrong!" that so many people seems to find to be so hard to say.

I will root for them until the bitter end, I don't care. They are the one who are fighting. You can call Cringevengers all you want but I am glad they are winning.

They all suffered like Eren but they didn't prioritize their own and only feelings above everything else and they stood by for the values they fought for since they joined the Survey Corps. Even if I have to admit they have, for most of them, conflicted feelings with what they were doing and have done things like trying to talk to Eren while it's obvious he wasn't going to talk and that in a situation like this I don't think someone would try to stop Eren by just talking.

Levi, and it would be foolish to not recognize it, is being consumed by his promise but he is restraining it and still is able to think about the bigger picture.

There's one thing I really like about this is Armin asking Eren:

"Eren... I'll ask you one last time... "What part of you is free" after we rip you out from there... "

Hehe... yes... what part of you is free ?

To be honest, there's many things I don't want for the ending.

A Lelouch Ending, it was all Eren's plan. Literally wouldn't make sense. No one would be questionning his free will and he wouldn't have these weird shits happening to him.

A Code Geass ending, why would Mikasa have to kill Eren, what does that add to her as a character ? More tragedy ? No she doesn't have the scarf, it's pretty telling what place she's at right now.

Eren being the daddy. NO, JUST NO.

Everyone dies, genocide is the right thing. You know all the worst shit that can happen.

But most of all I want important plot points to be explored and moved over because ever since the timeskip, there has been no important plot points out the way. Eren's behavior, Ackertalk, Bertolttalk, Historia's Condition, Paths stuffs, answers!

Whatever... Trust me Peace is not something I take for granted. Being proud of myself and having a life with the least conflict and problem is something you fight for. Having rights, being recognized as a human.

Never lose that, fight for it. But never with injustice, be smarter and stronger. Cause at the end what unites us is not only what we have in common but what the perspective of what we have not in common can make a bigger picture of what we are as humans. We all are different and have a different story with similarities but in the end, we are human and born into this world. And in that, we must move forward. In the present, because of the past and for the future.

We all wish for the problems to go away but if it's for the solutions to be rigged with injustice, it will not work. No one has acheived with genocide and never will.

So I got this “review” the other day on FFnet from a cowardly Guest, and to say that it’s an antisemitic shitshow is an understatement.  The thing is, however, for all of the bigotry on display, it’s literally nothing new. @captainlordauditor and I came up with Bingo Cards last year, and as a result of this person, @dischordant won Antisemitic Bingo.

So here’s the review itself, and my analysis, under the cut:

Alright, that's enough. I'm stopping here. Thanks, it's been a great ride, but I'm drawing the line at having Fishlegs spout psuedo-revanchist Zionist propaganda. The Palestinians have lived in the Zionist-occupied lands for thousands of years, and claims like this one—that the Jews originally lived there—are nothing but propaganda to legitimize the Zionist occupation and genocide. I kept reading, despite my better judgement, after chapter 63 and you admitting that you were Jewish on the hope that you weren't a Zionist, but now I see you spouting the same Zionist talking points that the Israelis do—as if that would excuse your massacres of Palestinians. 

 It's probably not your fault—you were lied to by your "rabbis"—but your ancestors weren't from Palestine. They were Europeans and Khazers who converted to a different religion, and were persecuted for it. I'm sorry for you, but you people of all people should know better than to persecute others. 

 So yeah. Great fic, and I love how you show Christian corruption for what it is, but I can tell that you're not going to do the same for Zionist propaganda, and so I'm going to stop reading here. It's a pity, really, that such a great and apparently liberal author supports genocidal fascists. I guess that's a lesson for the rest of us to learn from.

Now, there are multiple bits to this shitshow, but I’m going to focus on several bits.

First off, the historical revisionism with the Khazer Theory; this is a favorite in the US liberal scene as a way to force Israel to fit with the narrative that Israel is a White Colonialist Occupying Power; by denying the Jewish roots to the Levantine region and redefining us as White, they can delegitimize Israel and the Jewish connection.  

It’s a fancy bit of antisemitism that falls flat for several reasons; we have historical evidence of the Jewish diaspora, plus genetic evidence that the Ashkenazi Jews are more closely related to Levantine groups than they are to European groups.  And, on top of that, a majority of Israelis are from Jewish groups other than the Ashkenazi, who are most definitely not White and not European.  So they have to be ignored and erased to fit this narrative--and on top of that, they’re the victims of ethnic cleansing as well, and had to flee to Israel.

Secondly, I gotta love the scarequotes around “rabbi”, and how I “admitted” to being Jewish--as if that’s something to be ashamed of, or that simply repeating historical facts about the Roman conquest of Judea and the subsequent start of the Jewish diaspora in 132 CE is “psuedo-revanchist Zionist propaganda“!

Thirdly, I fucking hate this victim-blaming bullshit.  “You of all people should know better”?  Yeah, we know better than to unconditionally trust non-Jews at this point.  We’ve learned that no matter how well we assimilate, no matter how well we join in on non-Jewish societies, no matter how much we give up our heritage and identity, no matter how well we fight in non-Jewish wars--we will be cleansed.  That to give up and to try to appeal to humanity and decency just results in our deaths.  We learned that the only way we get to continue to live is if we fight for it, because even the great Savior of the Jewish People, the United States, as that country likes to falsely present itself, couldn’t be bothered to save Jewish lives during the Holocaust, although it made sure to take the credit afterwards!  (More military resources were spent rescuing art and dancing horses than were spent rescuing Holocaust victims). Does this excuse the treatment of the Palestinians?  NO.  But painting this as “you of all people should know better” is victim-blaming at its finest--telling the people who are the survivors of genocide and ethnic cleansing that they should not act in their own perceived protection against a hostile world.  

Fourthly, the repeated accusation of Palestinian genocide... this is at this point blood libel.  The Palestinian population is over 5 million and has never dropped below a 2% per annum growth rate in my lifetime.  There have been less than 20,000 deaths in the last 30 years between both sides of the conflict.  Is that good?  NO!  But is it a genocide?  NO!  

So, yeah, there is a lesson to be learned here--and that is that claims of “I’m not antisemitic, just antizionist!” is so often bullshit, where history itself has to be denied and rewritten because it doesn’t fit what these “antizionists” want it to be.
