People in Reddit, (because of course they are) seen to think California is this prosperous utopia that makes so much money and people there just have it made. Except people were moving away in droves because of cost of living for a while and then because of lack of freedom after that.

Then I get greeted with "Nuh uh! They've had net positive people moving there". Sure maybe recently but during and right after covid people fled because of the tyrant state California was acting like. Not too mention the shutdowns on top of cutting off work from so many people while the Governor went out to party with his friends.

California might make a lot of money but it's because they SPEND a lot. And I can explain. California has some is the highest tax rates in the US. And add freakishly high rent and costs there and it's near impossible to live there especially in the big cities. So why are they supposedly so "prosperous". Easy. If a state was to charge you 40% in state taxes. Gas prices are 7$ and you rent is 5k or more a month "income" for the state is going to look insane.

Meanwhile if you have a state that charges no state taxes, costs 3$ in gas and rent costs 1k a month the state will seemingly be less "prosperous". Except that concept should more or less look at conditions of living. And in California the place with the best net positive living conditions for an AVERAGE resident are all red area. Or light purple leaning red. Meanwhile if you're in blue areas you've got streets covered in shit, homeless people, and rampant crime and car break-ins. Sounds SUPER "prosperous" to me. So prosperous in fact the state wanted to charge residents for 10 years after they left the state.

Why? Because no matter how much they are making they aren't making enough. If you compare their GDP against how much they keep spending it's pretty bleak. Never you mind the impropriety in their local governments. Specifically L.A. and SF. Who "misplaced" millions a year that's supposedly supposed to go to the homeless. And other supposed "welfare". Fact is the sheer amount of people who I've talked to that left because they could not afford to live there. It's been quite a few. Income does not equal prosperity. And the fact Cali has had to be bailed out a number of times shows it can't sustain itself. Though the bailouts were not all extravagant. Most ended up being subsidies if I recall correctly. (Though it's been a while since I read up on it).

People dick suck Democrat policies so hard they need to present California as this bastion of perfection. It's not. And GDP doesn't make a place better. Especially not with tax rates as high as the have them. ON TOP OF federal taxes and living costs being that stupid.

And a dollar for gas makes a lot of difference

So if it gas wad 3.40 even, 20$ would get you 5.8 gallons. At 4.80? 4.1 gallons. That amount MAKES A DIFFERENCE especially to those not making a lot of money a year. Then Cali mandates a $20/hr min wage for fast for (except Panera bread because a high level executive made a charitable donation to his campaign) 10k people lost our are projected to lose jobs. "Well that's the greedy companies-" I'm going to stop you right there. No it's not companies fault. It's the fault of California government. Because guess what? For those people that will be making more California gets a bigger cut of your money. Oh and guess what? Because of that you're in a higher tax bracket in both your state AND federally. California is mandating you get robbed blind.

Look. No state is perfect. But to pretend California is such a great place because a lot of companies had their head offices there and state taxes are absurd? Isn't a win. And frankly it makes your look stupid. Because it's a pretty nuanced thing. And it completely flies over most of your heads. Because if they were so well of WHY would they even consider an exit tax? Why would their tax rates be so damn high? Oh right because the state is lining it's own pockets while pretending they are the richest place on earth. And all because "the weather is nice". Blow me. Several states have really nice weather. California just sets itself on fire from time to time because they dissolved their foresty departments so they can blame global warming for everything.

BBVA bank, formerly BBVA Compass bank, was founded in 1964 and is based in Alabama. BBVA has quite a few branches spread across seven states — Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, New Mexico and Texas — although around half of those locations are in Texas. and has been around a long time, but it also has a strong online banking presence.

Unlike many other banks that we would consider “online banks,” BBVA offers a full suite of services, from checking and savings to money market accounts, investing, CDs and even home and auto loans.

What we like about BBVA Bank

BBV bank has been around for quite a while and has a sizable presence in the states where it has branches. Unlike many other banks that offer accounts online, this one offers a full suite of banking services, meaning you can do all of your banking in one place.

The website and app are where this bank shines. With an easy-to-use interface that also offers a lot of functionality, it’s easy to manage accounts, even if you don’t live near any branches. Their mobile app offers a wide range of features too, along with great digital security options.

BBVA Bank critiques

Because BBVA is a more traditional, full-service bank, their interest rates are lower than most online bank offerings, and they do have some fees that are higher than other banks. For example, overdraft fees are $38 each and you can incur up to six per day. That means even simple mistakes can add up quickly.

The rates on BBVA’s CDs and savings APY rates are also low, and there are options with higher rates and lower fees available elsewhere.

BBVA Bank checking accounts

BBVA bank offers the Free Checking account, . This account includes free ATM withdrawals at not only BBVA ATMs, but the network of Allpoint ATMs as well, which means you have 44,000 options around the US. Fees for overseas withdrawals are small and reasonable.

The bank also offers the Premium Checking account, . Like the other accounts, there is only a $35 minimum balance to open it, but if your balance is below $5,000 you’ll pay a hefty $26 monthly maintenance fee. You’ll earn between .5% and .75% depending on what kind of balance you maintain. If you’re going to keep that high of a balance, you may want to look at their money market account instead. BBVA Bank savings accounts

There are a few different types of savings accounts offered by BBVA. The first is the BBVA Build My Savings Account. This account is offered at .05% APY, but you can earn a match bonus depending on the term you choose, your opening account balance and how much you add to the account regularly, up to $25 per term.

The BBVA Online Savings Account account also has a minimum opening balance of $25 and the same interest rate, but it does not have the same match options as the Build My Savings Option. It does offer easy access to your funds and a link to your checking account for overdraft protection, and there is no service charge for the account.

The BBVA Savings Account offers similar benefits to the BBVA Online Savings Account and the same minimum opening balance, but there is a $15 quarterly service charge that can be waived if you meet certain criteria.

BBVA Bank money market accounts

The BBVA Money Market account earns better interest than the Premium Checking account, but . It can be set up as overdraft protection for your checking account, and you can access your money anytime you need it with ATM access or online and mobile banking.

You’ll only need a minimum of $25 to open the account, and while there are higher-interest MMAs to be found elsewhere, most require a much more substantial minimum balance.

BBVA Bank CDs

BBVA CDs — certainly not the highest minimum around. Rates vary depending solely on term, from 1.50% for a 1-year CD to 1.00% for a 36-month term. These are certainly not the most spectacular rates out there if that’s what you’re looking for, but there are no maintenance fees associated with these accounts.

BBVA Bank IRA accounts

As a full-service institution, BBVA offers SEP, ROTH and traditional IRAs with a variety of ways to invest, including mutual funds and ETFs. There are a wide variety of portfolios and funds to choose from based on your needs, how soon you want to retire and how risk-averse you may be.

They also offer other ways to invest that can help you build your retirement income, including annuities and lifetime-income options.

BBVA Bank credit cards

There are four credit card options with BBVA bank. All offer varying levels of rewards and interest rates that depend on your credit-worthiness and the type of perks you would like to earn.

The BBVA Rewards Card offers unlimited 1.5% rewards on all purchases and the ability to earn an additional unlimited 0.5% reward bonus with $1,000 in monthly direct deposits to a BBVA deposit account, among other perks like 0% balance transfer options.

The BBVA ClearPoints Credit Card is a rewards card that lets you choose how you earn up to 2x & 3x points in categories you select each quarter. It has no annual fee and offers a 0% introductory APR for 13 months on purchases, among other perks.

The Select Credit Card allows you to choose how you earn 3x the points in categories you select, and it offers access to Visa Signature travel and entertainment benefits, a 24/7 complimentary concierge, and no foreign transaction fees. The downside is the $125 annual fee, which BBVA waives for the first year.

BBVA Bank investing

There are two investing options with BBVA. The first is self-directed investing, which is just what is sounds like. You control and direct your investments, and you can put your money in mutual funds, ETFs and other options. You can even establish a margin account through the bank.

If you want more options and someone to manage your investing for you, BBVA offers full-service investment accounts as well. This means your money is managed by a professional. BBVA also offers 529 plans and options that help you save to pay for your child’s college managed under this plan.

The bottom line

Are you looking for a full-service bank online that offers plenty of options? If the answer is yes, then may be the right place for you. Many fees can be avoided  though they are steeper than many other banks, and the interest rates are respectable but not the highest around.

If you’re looking for the highest rates and lowest fees, or have very simple banking and financial services needs, BBVA may not be the best place for you. If you shop around, you will find higher interest rates, lower fees and simpler options from other online banks.

I read-ended another car at an intersection. Both of us were stopped at a light. When the light turned green, the other car started moving and immediately slammed on brakes. I just had a long ass debate on why Trump is bad

First off, let me set the scene: I’m on the bus with two friends, my brother right next to me. My friend suddenly states about how she likes Trump and that “most of what he does makes sense” and when I asked her to explain, she simply states “those illegal immigrants are taking our jobs and housing, and who’s paying for them? Taxes. We are.” And I lost it.

Those immigrants are more than likely looking for a place to settle with their family. Those immigrants come here illegally because by the time 20 years pass, their kids and family could be dead, sick enough to not be able to move, or something worse(honestly, Mafias anyone?) And then there are the ones who want to sell drugs, but we’ll get to that later.

Anyways, my brother interjected, saying “but what about the war veterans? The homeless people? Why aren’t we doing anything about that?”

You’re right, why aren’t we doing anything about it? Well, we are.

Sort of.

You see, from my standpoint and all the things I’ve seen and done in my life(which happens to be very short compared to others) is that Homeless veterans are shaken with PTSD. That’s v common. But, some of them(and I can’t give a percentage), are too proud to accept help. This happens a lot with people- we think we’ve got it under control but we don’t. Other homeless people just... can’t start up. Others want it to stay that way. Some people try and try and try to get back on their feet, only to have bad credit scores or not know their social security numbers, because hey, you can only carry what you have on your back sometimes, right? Anyways, from a wonderful tumblr post way back a few days ago(please link me if you find it?) an OP said “we don’t help those in need. We help those in danger.” Which is accurate. We don’t help those who are struggling with an unstable job or are sinking slowly into debt, we help those who already lost the fight.

Anyways, my point is: the immigrants are taking jobs(usually min. Wage or trash duty, sadly) because they try. They’re determined. Other homeless vets/others can’t get back on their feet well enough to apply, or they’re too proud or want it to stay homeless. Immigrants go through plenty of slurs and pay money for bad people to take them across the border. They’re desprate. So maybe, if we help everyone, we can get better as a society. Help the homeless with homes, with jobs. Minimum wage goes a long way.

Anyways, he also pointed out that these people are on welfare JUST to get back on their feet.

You just rented out a shady apartment that looks disgusting, but hey, it’ll do until you can get back to your feet. It’s the summer and there’s no conditioning, so you make sure to freeze some water bottles. Your kids are aged 4 and 7, and you need a babysitter while you work at a min. Job as a cashier at McDonalds(the glory!) You’re on foodstamps too: plus or minus the equivelent of 2,000 for you to spend on food. Your 7 year old is sick from the mold growing in the bathroom, and you desperately try to bleach it away. It works, but you spot roaches under the sink. You can’t call an exterminator. You try over the counter medicine for your 7yo and tell them to stay out of the bathroom as you spray it with raid. You go to work, leaving your kids in the hands of the 16 year old in the complex who just needs a couple of bucks for her prom dress. She’s also the only one who knows cpr in the area. Around 10 am, just as you serve your last customer before the lunch rush starts, your manager pages you. Your four year old is in the hospital. He managed to crawl to the Raid store on the counter. He sprayed the Raid in the bathroom, directly into his face when the babysitter went to grab her phone from the bedroom. The fumes made him lightheaded and he passed out fairly quickly. Your seven year old screamed when he went to use the restroom, which made the sitter call 911(and did the right thing by bringing both of them outside and away from the fumes). Your manager, thankfully, tells you to go, but work overtime(greatfully paid) for the next two days. You barely hear him as you get into your car and screech away.

Your debt for the check up on both your kids, extra shots, medication, the ambulance, and gas? Not fun. You’ve just been set back a couple thousand dollars. You can barely afford your apartment now. Your savings- all of it- went down the drain. You thank the sitter, crying, and leave the hospital with tear stained cheeks. At least your kids were alive. Something worse could have happened.

Your car was hit by an idiot on the way home. Such luck. Lucky it was just a rear end but your back tires are completely messed up. You’ll have to get them replaced. The tow company brings your car to the shop and gives you a lift. The price for it? Not pretty. Your oil also needs changing, and your trunk has a bunch of shards, not safe for the kids(who weren’t hurt at all, not a scratch. Some miracles happen.)

Accidents happen guys, and people who keep trying to get out of welfare make a mistake, slip up, or get injured. The cost of living in America(or in a ‘rich’ country) is high, and eveything is either expensive or overly taxed.

Welfare helps, but sometimes help isn’t enough.

This country is in bad shape. By whom, we don’t know. It could date back to the founding fathers or to Bill Clinton, or to Trump(thanks for the wall, really helped out our debt). Either way, we’ve only exsisted for 200-250 ish years. We need to learn that we’re.. learning. Every government has its ups and downs and everything is probably shitty within its first few centuries. But we just need to work harder. We need to work out the kinks and educate everyone on not hatred, but compassion. Look out fo yourself, but try to help in little ways. Comfort the coworker. Give a meal to the homeless lady down the street. Greet each person as you would your family. Do not greet them based on race, religion, sexuality, etc. We’re all human. We’re one race.

We don’t need a cheeto puff with a caterpillar as hair, or a corrupt woman(seriously please help this election was a joke.)We need someone to work on the big picture by going through the small details(mainly debt. Please.) We don’t need to talk about illegal immigrants as if they’re some sort of pest, we need to fix our drug problem. Up border security? Maybe. Lower the fuckin years it takes to get approved? Fuck yeah. Seriously, 10-20 years is insane to be approved to move into a new country. No one talks about Suan B. Anthony or knows who all of the presidents are. This is why there are so many illegal immigrants- because our approval time is way too fuckin long. We need to teach them every little detail about America that they’ll never use. English is a must, yes, but even broken English and bad adjectives is better than nothing.
