amora’s  mother  was  a  spring  witch  and  her  father  was  a  summer  witch.  to  their  delight,  ami  was  born  a  spring  witch  just  like  her  mother.  however,  ami  would  later  realize  this  was  not  as  good  as  it  seemed

her  mother  was  a  midwife  and  she  wanted  nothing  more  than  for  amora  to  follow  in  her  footsteps.  unfortunately,  amora  never  had  any  interest  in midwifery

during  amora’s  teen  years,  her  parents  started  arguing  frequently  about  the  direction  they  wanted  amora  to  go  in.  her  mother  was  set  on  midwifery,  but  her  father  understood  the  importance  of  choosing  your  own  future.  aside  from  arguing  about  amora,  her  parents  stopped  seeing  eye  to  eye  on  many  other  things  as  well,  and  eventually  they  split  up

amora  did  not  handle  her  parents  split  well.  mostly,  she  blamed  herself.  she  feels  like  if  she  had  just  pursued  midwifery  like  her  mother  had  wanted,  none  of  this  would  have  happened

after  the  split,  she  had  to  live  with  her  disapproving  mother.  her  father  not  only  moved  out,  but  he  moved  to  a  different  city  to  be  around  some  of  his  family.  this  kind  of  broke  her  heart  a  lil.  she  saw  it  more  as  her  father  trying  to  stay  far  away  from  her

so,  amora  continued  living  with  her  mom  who  continued  to  disapprove  of  her  choices.  for  a  while,  she  wasn’t  sure  what  she  wanted  to  do.  however,  after  her  parents  divorce,  she  became  especially  interested  in  matchmaking

she  figured  since  she  drove  her  parents  apart,  she  could  redeem  herself  by  bringing  others  together.  she  quickly  became  obsessed  with  the  idea  of  love

amora  more  recently  found  out  her  father  remarried  and  started  a  new  family.  she  doesn’t  really  speak  to  him  much  anymore,  so  the  idea  that  he  is  present  in  the  lives  of  his  new  family  hurts  her  a  lot.  but  in  the  end,  she  still  blames  herself  for  driving  her  father  away

so,  amora  has  a  father  she  barely  sees  and  a  mother  who  continues  to  try  to  micro-manage  her  life  and  make  a  carbon  copy  of  herself  out  of  her  daughter

BIO :

dante is a spring warlock born to a a summer witch and a man he’s never met nor given much thought to. why would he need to, when he’s got three perfectly good aunts and a mother he loves more than anything or anyone?

or——sometimes a family can be four summer diviners and their spring son ( think 300 fox way of the raven cycle ). sure, dante’s upbringing was a bit unorthodox, but it was happy. he was happy.

and maybe that’s why he always felt so bad about his pervasive feeling of impostor syndrome. how could he feel so inadequate when he had proven to have incredible magic potential? how could he feel like an outcast when he was so obviously loved? he knew he was privileged in a whole host of ways, so how could he still be unhappy with his lot in life?

dante’s way of dealing with this was to not think about it at all. he threw himself into his various hyperfixations and never really let himself be alone. introspection was both dangerous and overrated, in his mind.

arcane arts (undergrad) was a bit of a mixed bag. socially, he struggled at first——though his family taught him about spring magic and the coven’s social systems, he was obviously raised summer, and it showed, from his party animal nature to his confrontational tendencies. there was an obvious disconnect between him and his housemates. and he wasn’t sure how to breach it.

academically, though——oh. dante began as a rituals/seances specialization ( the best way, in his mind, of reconciling the magic in him with the magic he knew ) but switched to apothecary after an intro class introduced him to the topic. the topic just . . . clicked, like summer magic never did. 

and once that came together, the house came around. it became very clear that dante was incredibly talented at spring magic, something only bolstered by his voracious study habits. that helped him bridge the gap with his house, and he eventually became one of the house’s more prolific students ( in . . . more ways than one, depending on who you talked to ).

dante was on-track to go work in potion-making or healing research. he’s still on-track to go into either of those fields, but he decided that he’d return to arcane arts first in order to study alchemy at the graduate level.

alchemy is the only way to create a panacea, after all, and a panacea is the only thing that can cure his mother, who’s been rather sickly all of dante’s life but whose condition has been drastically worsening.

MISC. BITS : 

dante is the embodiment of the work hard/play hard mentality. he’s always either working, scheming, partying, or flirting ; if he’s not doing one of those things, you ought to be concerned. 

one of the reasons dante’s magic is so strong is that he’s essentially been trying to accomplish off-season magic for most of his life.

he calls his familiar mandu, because the iguana’s attitude is rather comparable to that of a lazy dumpling. 

started his side hustle ( read: drug manufacturing ) as a joke, actually. he had told one of his dear undergraduate friends that of course dante-hyung could procure the good stuff for a party ; when more people started actually hitting him up about it, he began to realize that he could use the business as a way of raising funds for rarer ( read again: more dangerous ) alchemy ingredients. 

stupid knowledgeable about fortune telling/divination, though has little magical aptitude for it. has a personal fondness for summer magic, for obvious reasons.

it is easy to write dante off as an obnoxious party boy wasting his intelligence on frivolous pursuits. this would be a mistake, i think.

hailing   from   a   long   line   of   winter   witches   &   warlocks   ,    irina   was   born   into   a   family   that   seemed   to   fit   every   stereotype   of   their   coven   :   cold   ,    calculating   ,   and   striving   for   more   power   than   they   had   .   her   parents   were   well   off   ,   and   although   they   were   not    elite   ,   they   were   prominent   enough   to   exist   side   by   side   that   world   anyway   .   almost   important   ,    but    not   important   enough   .   almost   at   the   top   ,    but   not   quite   there   .   while   most   people   might   find   it   ridiculous   anyone   could   have   so   much   and   still   be   unsatisfied   ,   it   never   stopped   irina’s   parents   from   their   desperate   ambitions   .

in   the   years   her   older   brothers   were   away   at   the   academy   of   arcane   arts   irina   would   learn   her    most   valuable   lesson   of   all   .   underneath   every   rule   and   tradition   there   is   hypocrisy   ,   and   nothing   is   ever   truly   what   it   appears   to   be   .   she’d   believed   in   her   parents   and   the   way   she’d   been   raised   ,   wholeheartedly   believed   and   endured   it   all   ,   never   questioning   them   once   until   the   night   she   catches   her   father   locking   lips   with   a   summer   witch   in   what   they   must   have   assumed   was   a   private   corner   of   a   high   profile   charity   event   .   she   never   spoke   a   word   about   it   to   anyone   ,   but   things   were   never   the   same   after   that   .   

every   time   her   parents   scoffed   at   the   other   covens   ,   she   thought   about   that   party   .    every   time   her   mother   tried   to   control   her   friendships   or   relationships   ,   she   thought   about   the   irony   of   her   father’s   infidelity   .   while   her   older   brothers   went   on   to   become   a   successful   duelist   and   council   officer   respectfully   ,   irina   was   counting   down   the   days   til   she   finally   got   to   escape   to   the   academy   .  her   life   so   far   had   been   reminiscent   of   a   porcelain   doll’s   ,   eighteen   years   trying   not   to   fall   right   off   the   highest   shelf   .   she’d   become   exactly   who   her   parent’s   needed   her   to   be   ,   something   irina   once   wanted   more   than   anything   in   the   whole   world   ,   but   all   she   felt   was   empty   .  

 when   she   arrived   at   arcane   as   a   freshman   ,   she   already   had   huge   footsteps   to   fill   .   her   brothers   ,   who   had   excelled   not   only   academically   but   also   socially   ,   had   achieved   just   about   everything   —   except   becoming   head   of   winter   house   .   one   of   them   came   close   their   3rd   year   making   it   as   prefect   ,   only   to   lose   head   of   house   the   next   year   .   irina   quickly   became   obsessed   with   the   idea   of   making   it   to   house   head   and   she   knew   it   would   take   more   than   being  smart   or   proficient   in   magic   to   get   her   there   ,    but   she   also   knew   if   anyone   could   do   it   it   was   her   .   she’d   been   raised   to   chase   powerful   positions   ,   to   study   ,   to   be   charming   ,   and   to   find   the   right   connections   .   like   most   in   the   winter   house   her   ability   to   read   people   was   something   she   had   mastered   ,   and ultimately   it’s   how   she   finally   got   her   wish   her   fourth  year   at   the   academy   when   she   got   the   house   leadership   position   .

in   true   capricorn   nature   ,   irina   is   very   ambitious   .   while   she   used   to   strive   to   be   the   best   at   everything   she   does   to   get   a   sliver   of   her   parent’s   approval   ,   she’s   recently   made   the   discovery   it’s   much   more   satisfying   for   her   to   work   hard   and   prove   to   herself   she   can   be   so   much   more   than   just   a   pawn   in   whatever   game   the   winter   coven   seems   to   be   playing   .   she’s   a   perfectionist   that’s   constantly   on   the   borderline   of   obsession   ,   which   means   while   she   has   high  standards   for   everyone   around  her   ,    the   most  unrealistic   expectations   are   the   ones   she   sets   for  herself   .

while   most   of   her   relationships   ,   per   request   of   her   mother   ,   are   more   business   transactions   than   they   are   anything   based   on   real   emotional   vulnerability   ,    irina   has   made   exceptions   .   even   with   people   she   should   only   care   about   because   of   status   she’s   finding   it   harder   and   harder   to   act   like   her   feelings   and   vulnerable   side   don’t   exist   .   she’s   terrified   to   share   those   parts   of   herself   with   just   anyone   ,   only   trusting   a   select   few    to   really   know   her   ,    the   rest   of   the   world   only   seeing   a   carefully   crafted   projection   of   herself   .   

honestly   ...   she’s   kinda   on   the   verge   of   losing   it   JSDBWJBDJW   very   nina   in   black   swan   there’s   plenty   of   female   histeria  to   go  around   !   but   she's   trying   her   best   to   hold   it   all   together   and   stay   responsible   while  coping   with   the   fact   that   her   entire   childhood   was   some   bullshit   and   with   the   fact   that   while   she   might   actually   have   zero   interest   in   upholding   traditions   spread   by   hypocritical   witches   and   warlocks   in   positions   of   power   ,    playing   the   game   all   the   way   to   the   top   is   the   only   way   she   sees  herself   ever   having   true   freedom   ):         

she’s   rarely   cruel   on   purpose   .   most   of   the   time   when   she   hurts   someone   it’s   because   they   became   collateral   while   she's   trying   to   achieve   a   certain   goal   .   definitely   wants   to   be   genuinely   nice   to   people   as   opposed   to   fake   politician   nice   ,   she   just   kinda   feels   like   a   fraud   doing   it   ,   like   it’s   impossible  for   her   to   actually   be   genuine   when   she’s   pretending   everyday   of   her   life   .

has   a   super   complicated   relationship   with   house   rivalries   since   she’s   questioning   everything   her   parents   taught   her   .   summer   house   makes   it   hard   for   her   to   change   her   opinions  ,   however   ,   when   they’re   constantly   getting   on   her   nerves   even   if   they   don’t   mean   to   </3   generally   speaking   she’s   on   the   best   terms   and   at   her   friendliest   with   winter  and  autumn   house   ,    and   is   much   more   likely   to   trust   and   befriend   people   from   those   houses   ,    but   she   will   never   outright   discriminate   against   someone   from   spring   or   summer   house   (   unless   they’ve  earned   it   )   .  

she   specializes   in   enchantments   !   and   she’s   really   good   at   it   !   she’d   never   admit   it   ,   but   her   dream   job   isn’t  actually   being   an   enchanter   ,    but   a   professional   violinist   .   she’s   in   orchestra   club   as   a   coping  mechanism   for   the   fact   that   she’ll   never  have   her   dream   ):

had a happy childhood, with parents (both in the spring coven) who constantly showered him with affection since he was their only child and they had almost given up in having one before he came.

it wasn’t until he was 14 when tragedy hits the han household for the first time: his father was involved in a freak accident due to his own spell gone horribly wrong. he has always been a little careless (something ezra would later inherit) and due to the sudden death, his mother became very protective of him.

this made him more and more rebellious, although he tends to hide his bad habits (getting high, sneaking out, etc) from his mother, knowing that it would crush her already fragile heart.

if there’s one thing about ezra that truly fits the stereotype of being in the spring house (besides being a pothead), it’s his speciality in herbology. an absolute NERD for plants and nothing else!! you can always find him in the gardens most of the time and he’s always excited to learn something new about them. 

because he puts most of his focus on one subject, he doesn’t really give much effort on the others. which gets him a lot of flack, especially when he skips classes and gets points deducted from his house. he tries his best to be a good student in general, the keyword here being ‘try’.

almost six foot tall and he’s always tripping over his own two feet. either that, or constantly misplacing his glasses. he’s a mess all around and don’t get me started on the state of his room... his former roommates? probably hated living with him.

doesn’t care about the rivalry between the covens (he finds it ridiculous) or the points system — hence his rather laidback attitude. he’s not a stickler for the rules either, and is one of the few that’s brave enough to get off the island just for fun. (journey to the island below kids let’s go!!)

personality-wise, he’s fiercely loyal to those he cares about. he prefers having a small circle of friends that he’s close to, but on another hand, he would never say no to a good party.

can be a little too honest at times... the worst of times usually, but he really does have the best interests at heart. occasionally. 

doesn’t think through his decisions sometimes. he gets impulsive real quick real fast so it’s likely he would do something stupid just for the sake of it. head empty no thoughts? his constant mood.

secretly craves affection (don't let the resting bitch face fool you!!) because he’s used to getting it a lot from his parents but would never admit to it. it’s why he clings a lot to the friends he has.

- junho is the head of summer house! don’t be fooled, he didn’t get there by his own hard work... much of the credit goes to excellent management by his girlfriend hana - basically the brains behind the charm  - also, he comes from a long line of noble summer witches so.... that helps  - terrified of ghosties, absolutely dreads having to go near autumn house (but he has to... for hana )  - frequent party host  - extreme loyalty to his house but also thinks he can boss all the underclassmen around because of his authority ; is under the impression delusion that everyone is in love with him  - aspires for an elite position within the summer coven, subsequently this goal has planted many seeds of disdain against the winter house (definitely holds a grudge against them for ancient history)  - blind follower of tradition  - comes across as a major dumbass in most fields, especially liberal arts, but is annoyingly skilled at more heavy handed magic such as dueling  - his mouse familiar is named lion and he absolutely hates him, has tried to lose him multiple times to no avail. you will often times find them quarreling, most frequent argument is over lion leaving cheese crumbs all over his bed.

she   was   an   accidental   pregnancy   ,    born   shortly   after   the   marriage   of    her    parents   ,   but    they    were   far   from   mad   about   it   .   her   father   was   a   well   regarded   summer   warlock   ,   a   famous   entertainer   known   for   his   long   and   successful   career    in   the   spotlight   with   his   sister   ,   a    man   who’d   been   the   object   of   many   summer    witches’   affections   .   it   was   a   shock   to   everyone   when   he    retired    from   show   business   to   settle   down   with   his   old   academy   sweetheart   ,   a    soft   spoken    spring   witch   with   a   passion   for   healing   .   

somi’s   father   was   delighted   that   their   first   born   was   a   summer   witch   ,   but   her   mother   intended   to   raise   all   their   children   with   a   blend   of   beliefs   from   both   the   spring   and   summer   covens   ,   and   that’s   exactly   what   they   did   .   since   her   father   had   been   a   famous   entertainer   ,   his   social   circle   extended   far   beyond   just   the   summer   coven   .   although   it   was   obvious   he   had   pride   as   most   summer   witches   and   warlocks   do   ,   he   was   never   the   type   to   discriminate   even   against   those   from   the   winter   covens   ,   a   habit   he   learned   from   his   wife   .     

somi   was   their   only   child   for   the   first   half   of   her   life   (   as   her   parents   were   relatively   young   when   they’d   had   her   )   .   because   of   this   she   was   spoiled   by   the   excited   new   parents   ,   attention   and   support   never   lacking   at   home   .   she   was   raised   to   believe   she   could   do   whatever   she   put   her   mind   to   ,   no   matter   how   big   those   dreams   were   . 

  however   ,    once   she   entered   her   teenage   years   and   her   baby   fat   was   gone   ,    and   she   could   no   longer   rely   on   being   “   that   cute   and   friendly   girl   ”   to   get   her   where   she   wanted   to   go    ,    things   got   a    little   harder   .   she   had   no   problem   with   confidence   ,    but   motivation   was   not   one   of    her   strong   suits   ,    unintentionally   growing   up   with   the   mentality   that   things   would   just   magically   fall   into   place   if    she   wanted   them   hard   enough   .

this   was   also   around   the   time   her   parents   had   their   second   baby   ,   a   boy   born   in   the   spring   .   naturally   he   became   the   object   of   her   parent’s   attention   which   only   made   somi   feel   more   lost   ,    like   maybe   she   wasn’t   as   special   or   important   as   her   parents   had   made   her   feel   .   but   when   her   parents   had   another   child   a   little   over   a   year   later   ,   another  summer   witch   ,   somi   realized    it   was   pretty   dumb   to   be   jealous   of    babies   ,   and   that   it   would   be    better   if   she   focused   her   time   on   becoming   the   type   of   older   sister   her   siblings   could   eventually   look   up   to   !

once   she   started   at   arcane   somi   vowed   she’d   take   her   studies   more   seriously   and   not   get   too   distracted   by   her   social   life   .   while   her   talent   for   fortune   telling   had   manifested   pretty   early   on   in   her   life   ,    and   while   she   was   good   at   it   ,   she   would   be   lying   if   she   said   she   was   interested   in   studying   it   in   a   scholarly   way   .   (   she   has   way   more   fun   sneaking   off   the   island   with   her   best   friend   and   fortune   telling   for   humans   for   some   quick   cash   )   .   still   ,   she’s   trying   her   best   to   keep   her   grades   up   ,    all   the   while   making   sure   she   doesn’t   miss   out   on   a   single   party   ...   and   boy   are   there   lots   of   parties   ...

she’s   a   leo   and   it   shows   JWDBJWDBJWDW    full   of   energy   and   confidence   at   almost   all   times   so   it’s   pretty   easy   to   tell   when   she’s   upset   because   she’ll   finally   be   quiet   .   a   big   social   butterfly   with   no   real   opinions   about   house   rivalries    ,   BUT    she’s   super   proud   to   be   a   summer   witch   so   if   you   try   to   put   her   down   because   of    it   that’s   when   she’d   be   upset   /:

she   might   be   the   oldest   sibling   in   her   family   but   that   definitely   doesn’t   show   .   has   big   i’m   baby   energy   and   is   quite   literally   the   embodiment   of   this   emoji   🥺   at   all   times   but   especially   when   she’s   trying   to   get   out   of   trouble   .

his stance on humans are painfully neutral, larry doesn’t particularly like or hate them -- he supposes they’re bearable

had to "grow up" and take on responsibilities early on as the only son to a single mother

worked a ton of strange jobs in his community (mostly tending to his neighbors lawns, magical plants, getting rid of their pixie problem, etc)
