‘Love doesn’t fear the flames.’

Once upon a time, there were two feuding families. Both were powerful and magically bound to dragons; their rivalry centuries old and deep-rooted. Whereas one could speak to dragons, the other was gifted with extraordinarily long lives.

As the fates would have it, two members of the warring families fell in love with each other—a girl cut from marble, and a boy as wise as the vines.

They knew each other since childhood; yet had looked at each other with spite. One day, however, in a fit of frustration, the girl fled to the woods. There, she stumbled upon the boy and his dragon. His calm soothed the girl and they quickly laid down their quarrel and formed a strong bond.

Scared of their families, they kept their love hidden. And so, they contented themselves with secret meetings and swift touches whenever they could. Both, however, lived on opposite ends of the world, so they were forced to part ways, eventually. But their love was strong and they found a way to be together.

As there was no way to travel far distances, fast and much less unnoticed, the two lovers took to spell-crafting. Countless moons passed but they soon managed to charm an object they held dear to take them to a chosen location merely by touch. 

The objects they enchanted took them to a hideaway which the boy had found somewhere in the Chinese mountains. And to ensure their safety, they guarded it with elaborate magic. Anyone who dared follow them would either prove worthy or be lost forever. 

And so, every night, the couple escaped to the misty mountains to see each other. 

Alas, the young couple’s joy didn’t last long, as their love entailed much more consequences. A long brooding conflict within the first family threatened to escalate as she and other members of her family opened their eyes to the wickedness of their traditions. The boy, however, had sworn loyalty to the girl and so the couple fought side by side to defeat her relatives. 

Seven days, flames heated the earth. Seven days, the clashing of metal hummed through the air. Until, on the last day, her uncle’s sword pierced through the boy’s dragon’s scales.

Thinking her beloved was dead, the girl gave in to her rage. She killed her uncle and declared the war to be over. But despite their victory and the change it brought about, the couple never returned from the scorched battlefield—their souls forever lost to the roaring flames.

No wizard has since found the location of the hideaway nor the key to enter it. Yet some say, if you hone in closely while using a Portkey, you can still feel the invisible thread attaching the two—the desperate pull to be together.

The Song Family

An ancient Chinese family who have lived on through the centuries due to Soul Bonding with dragons. There may be even more family members as there are big gaps in the timeline. Either me or someone else can create more or maybe some siblings have died and don’t live to modern day.

Ryuu Song (900s - present)

Father

First to Soul Bond

Started the Dragon Sanctuary in China

Moved to Britain in modern day for a high paying job

Owns a magical history museum because of how long he’s lived. The Empyrean is in his possession

He no longer cares about dragons anymore as the despair of losing so many wives and children has gotten to him. Cares more for material wealth

His dragon is so old so both of them are getting sickly and weak

Ke Huy Quan as FC

Koa Song (1000s - present)

Oldest child of Ryuu. Shares the same mother as Yuzana

He is Ryuu’s second in command and favorite

Will take over once Ryuu finally dies

Has a strong sense of duty and honor. Still thinks they should go back to their duty of being dragon protectors but follows Ryuu’s orders anyway

Kind of soft and a bit of a himbo. Loves his sisters

Simu Liu as FC

Yuzana Song (1000s - present)

Second oldest and shares a mother with Koa

Gifted with a silver tongue and can command a room and a battlefield

Thinks she would be a better fit to lead than her brother

Will follow Ryuu’s commands without argument even if that means focusing on money and not dragons. She thinks dragons are a thing of the past in modern day

Desperately wants her fathers approval

Lucy Liu as FC

Mako Song (1300s - unknown)

Wise and thoughtful

Adores being in nature and exploring and being curious

Falls in love with someone from a rival dragon family (Aalis Durand @cursed-herbalist)

Doesn’t actually soul bond with his dragon and lives a mortal life with her in secret after being presumed dead

Li Xian as FC

Lixue Song (1600s - present)

Kind and gentle

A healer

Pursues the finer things in life like art, music, poetry, etc

Solitary and would rather live her own life than get caught up in the family affairs

Gemma Chan as FC

Nori Song (1880s - present)

Curious and adventurous, sometimes leading to trouble and rebellion

Has not been around as long as her eldest siblings so she isn’t plagued with all the death of previous mothers and siblings

Recently lost her own mother and is angry at her father marrying again and having the newest sibling

Thinks they should return to protecting dragons

Ends up becoming friends with Mikael Arcano Thorne and helps him steal the Empyrean back and goes on adventures

Ryuu sends Koa after her who she ends up getting on her side. Ryuu then sends Yuzana

Meng’er Zhang as FC

Hana Song (2005 - present)

Youngest of the bunch

Has not yet soul bonded to her dragon

Is very gifted at fighting at such a young age that she rivals Koa and Yuzana

Is Ryuu’s new favorite

Kind of a wildcard as she could lean towards her fathers side or Nori’s. It’s unknown as of yet
