T H E   C I T Y   A S   P A L I M P S E S T

Workshop initiating 2nd year at the Aarhus school of architecture.

A palimpsest is a parchment, either from a scroll or a book, from which the text has been scraped or washed off so that the page can be reused for another document.

Instead of looking at old scrolls, we’ve been looking at 40 different cities around the world as palimpsest. Looking at and searching for layers in all aspects. The main themes has been historical layers, key events for the city development and of course architectural heritage threw the centuries.

We had to deliver:

A) A plaster-model 300 X 300 mm scale 1:1.500 of a section of the appointed city.  B) A booklet containing facts about and historical events of the city. furthermore containing analysis of the morphology of the city.

I had the pleasure of examining LONDON!! WUHUUU!! For wrapping the workshop we made an exhibition with all 40 Plaster models and related Booklets.

During my second to last semester I generically generated a space that would become a series of spaces in a garden - a house in a garden. With this project it reversed the process, I let the garden be the house and the generic space become a void in a house.
