The Greater and Less - Aaron Hotchner and Y/N
Tumblr media
Summary: Prompt - Stargazing Author's Notes: Hello dear readers! It's me, back from the dead. I went on hiatus as I started my new job. It's currently my week off and since I had some time today, I thought I'd get back into the writing mood. It's just a little drabble but it's on the fluffy side! Enjoy!
San Diego in Spring, trapped in a small stuffy room filled with police officers with bad B.O and profilers with high adrenaline running through their veins. Cases involving children were always the worse. The haunting knowledge of a small innocent life being tampered with and destroyed echoed through everyone’s minds as they tried to build a profile of Sanita Cole’s abductor. On Monday morning the team was called in after a series of unsolved child abductions became a series of unsolved murders. Victimology was a mess. There were 5 children so far, all of different races, gender, schools, and family wealth. The only correlation was that these children were all a week away from turning 10 years old. The current theory was that the Unsub must have experienced some form of trauma once they turned 10 years old. The question was, was the Unsub acting ins a twisted act of mercy, ensuring these children never got old enough to experience the pain they had endured? Or was this an act of revenge? An eye for an eye?
Y/N was hunched over a desk, staring down at picture after picture of bloodied and uncensored pictures of children’s bodies corrupted and tortured. Looking up from the pictures was no relief, they were on the walls as well. Along with a list of suspects and their previous convictions for child abuse. All in a small dark and stuffy room in San Diego during Spring.
When the door burst open, Y/N looked up to see Sanita Cole’s mother covered in dirt and tears hurdling down her face. The primal pained scream gave Y/N all the information she needed. Just like the other children, Sanita had been left half-buried in her mother’s backyard. A poor attempt at remorse? Allowing the child to finally rest in their home. Or an evil twist of a knife already slicing a mother’s heart. Malinda Cole was forced to use her manicured figure nails to dig at the ground and claw her way to her cold daughter. JJ and Emily bundled up the grieving mother from the ground and carried her to an empty room, leaving the room in icy silence. Y/N looked around and saw the faces of officers sigh with contempt and slug their shoulders before turning their attention back to their jobs. There was a protocol to follow now. Crime scenes are to be cordoned off, neighbors to be interviewed and autopsies to be scheduled. It angered Y/N how the first thought in her mind was what Sanita’s body could teach them about the Unsub. A calculated and impersonal thought for the child. She angrily shook her head and her thoughts and rushed out of the building.
The night air was no relief. She had yearned for a cold wind to hit her skin and wake her up from this nightmare. Instead, it blanketed her in a sticky blanket, weighing her down. Her neck was hurting after hours of looking down at coffee-stained wooden tables. Craning her head upwards to let her eyes close for a moment, relishing in the darkness before peeking through her eyelashes into the night sky.
She saw the stars but looked quickly away, turning her body back towards the police station to get back to work. A large solid bolder blocked her path as she stumbled over his shiny black shoes. “Hotch!” She jumped, scolding him for scaring her. “Don’t you make any noise when you move!” Complaining she scoffed and annoyance. “Y/N,” he whispered her name in a gentle warning as he placed his protective hands on the side of her arms.
“What?” she snapped back. She looked up and expected to see Hotch about to scold her and tell her to watch her tone. Instead, she saw the kind eyes of the man who left flowers on her desk with a secret note just a week before. She felt the gentle brush of his thumb on her arms and the patient smile curving on his lips. She sighed heavily and fell into his arms, crashing her head onto the pillow of his chest. “Aaron.” She sighed heavily.
“I know,” he whispered, wrapping her body up in his arms and holding her close.
“How many more children have to die before we catch this guy?”
“Stop,” he hushed gently, stroking her hair lovingly. “Just take a breath away from work.”
“But…” she began to protest, pulling away to meet his eyes and give him her long mental list of reasons she couldn’t afford to take a quick five-minute break.
“Look.” He interrupted, turning her around in his arms and pointing up to the sky. “Ursa Major.” Y/N rolled her eyes and looked up to the night sky, following Aaron’s stretched-out arm.
“No,” she sighed. “that’s Ursa Minor. That’s…” she moved his hand to the left, pointing to the large and almost mirrored constellation beside it. “Ursa Major. See it’s bigger and the round spoon-like bit is at the bottom.”
“Oh yeah,” Aaron feigned ignorance and hid his smirk in the locks of her hair. “How does that story go again?” he dropped his arm and wrapped it firmly around Y/N’s midriff, holding her back close to his stomach.
“Well remember how I told you Zeus was a bit of a lady's man?” Aaron hummed in remembrance of the many late-night chats where Y/N shared her love for Greek Mythology over a glass of wine. “Well, he had a child with Callisto and that angered Hera.”
“Zeus’s wife?”
“Yeah, she was the jealous type. For good reason. Anyway, she took it out on Callisto and turned her into a bear. When Callisto’s son went out hunting, he came across Callisto in her bear form. He didn’t realize it was his mother and was going to kill her. To save them both Zeus threw the mother and son into the sky where they became Ursa Major and Ursa Minor. The Greater Bear and The Lesser Bear.”
“Sad story,” Aaron mumbled, happy to feel the friction of Y/N’s palm against his arm as she patted whilst she spoke.
“Maybe,” Y/n mused. “But it beats the alternative. Imagine the guilt he would have felt knowing he killed his mother. At least this way they’re together.”
“Hmm.” Y/n relaxed into Aaron’s embrace and caught herself smiling as she marveled up at the stars that shone above them.
“You’re a sneaky mean, Hotchner.” She laughed as she realized what Aaron had done. How he had distracted her and forced her to relax. She felt his chuckle as she pressed his lips to the top of her head.
“Take five minutes to breathe then come back inside and we’ll catch him.”
He departed with one more kiss on her cheek. Y/N felt a cold waft as Aaron’s body heat was removed from hers. She found the cold awaken she had come outside for, and now she could breathe, even just for a few minutes.
Author's Notes: I confess to injecting my own personality into this fic as I love Greek Mythology. I have no idea if you can see Ursa Major and Ursa Minor in San Diego, but you can see it in the UK so forgive me if it's inaccurate!

Tuesday Diaries #1
Tuesdays are harsh. Back at 6.30 and I can say I've been out for literally 12 hours. Staying at college for practical at 5 pm, not everything connects the way you imagine. You aren't gonna study for the next exam till 3 pm; you aren't gonna finish that chapter in college like you hoped you would. The overpriced bad cafeteria food won't taste like heaven even when you're hungry; you'll wish for the bhaat daal muggi your mom makes no matter how many times you've eaten it. You won't have your friends to go home with every Tuesday, the routines change. You probably won't even read the book you took with you, nor will you lose the owl which hoot hoots. That ek tola brtc bus that drops you off at Aarong won't always be there at 5 pm, Tuesday. Sometimes it'll be the crowded Midline that gets on your nerves, waiting for you, and you'll have to get on it, just like today. You won't have anything to distract you from the gibberish static you feel when you are on that bus. But it all will be worth it at some point. And that's just something you tell yourself. The walk home will be tiring, and you'll give up for the night, not caring bout your next exam. You are mastering the art of just letting some things go. And then the next morning starts just like any other day. The hope for change carries on to your Thursdays and Fridays, and you end up with actions you regret. The want to have control over your life is scary; the actions for control turn out to be much scarier. Youth is indeed the loneliest time of all.

Isn't it weird when I bought a heart shaped cookie cutter, I dreamed of making hash-cookies for you. When I bought my sky-blue nailpolish I thought when you hold my hand and kiss them while I sit on the backseat, they shall look pretty when I look at you kissing my hand through the handlebar mirror. Isn't it insanely weird that I ordered 6 Kameez so that we can have our dates someday and you wouldn't have to pick me and I will get all dressed and ready for a date, which we never had. Similarly I bought the perfume for you so that I could breathe you while hugging you but I could never give you that. You know why I don't go, sit with you anywhere? Because I want to go on actual dates with you, not with the intention to fight or fix things. And about giving you smth- GOD I KNOW WHAT I DO WHEN I GO SHOPPING! I went to the men's section every time I went to Aarong, I went to every men's shop that was on my way home and I could never have the courage to buy anything because what if I still don't have the place to buy you anything and you'll be more than happy to receive them. It took me a lot of courage to buy that perfume for you. Nishat was with me and the way I was getting scared if you would receive it or not. And when I told you I have something to give you, you pulled the trigger on me saying you wouldn't take anything if that's anything materialistic. So it clearly states, I don't have the place anymore. But I want to do things for you. I want to buy you things, even if it is a very tiny gift. I want to make you feel like you are important. But you never gave me that place.
I will never be her, or you might never give me her place. I don't know if you are still grieving the love you lost with her. I feel like she sucked out all the love in you and left you empty. And I was okay with it because it felt like the amount of love I have in me will be enough for both of us. I just wanted you to start with loving yourself and knowing things that are best for you. But maybe not. Maybe till this day , it's still her. She knew how to hide her monsters and I am the monster. So I might never have that place. Tell me how many drinks would be enough for you to stumble through MY name?
I tell you I want to be understood but really, I want to understand why all the grenades don't explode inside your chest, how I can keep throwing at you and you won't deter. I want to understand the kind of love that makes me look loveable to you, that softens my edges and hardens your skin enough to hold me without a massacre.
Do you know why I replied to you when you came back and stayed? To feel so full of aching that the only way to breathe was- with you, through you. And see, here I am. Only breathing when I am with you and only alive everything is okay between us.
All I want to do now is hold you impossibly close and whisper I love you but we aren't there yet and there is a half impossibility of, if we'll ever be there or not.
So my love, I don't think I have any more heart to give so I'm cutting into my flesh and pouring my veins out for you? See, I don't walk down the street, I run and I run into my lonely home and I lay gasping on my cold bed. I sit last the dining table and clean the leftovers like the main course. And I stand tall for everyone who can't, forgetting that I must stand for me, too. That I need to feel alive, too. And then there is the fear that I don't know butterflies from monsters in my gut so I can never tell love from fear, I mean if you give me your finger I will lick it like your palm and won't ask to hold your hand. Or ask you to hold me with love in your eyes. I will believe I deserve less. But for how long? I was to get tired of being an option one day, right? And if now is not the time, it might never be and I will be someone who wouldn't offer you peace anymore. I guess, I am already becoming something I was always afraid of.
In the end it wasn't the distance that drowned us it was our silence.
We have love, immense love, but maybe yours isn't to give to me. So no words to keep writing our story, it ends today. It has to. Please don't stop me anymore, because I will stay and it will be so unbearable that I will start harming myself in order to keep my sanity, and not even show you any signs of it. I dragged myself way too far from something I can never do, kill myself, and if it continues, for the amount of horrible emotions I have inside me for us, it will lead me back to that point where I'll be bleeding in my bathroom floor and you wouldn't even know. And I can never let that happen again.
So it never started, still it ends here.
