ok, so elemental might be one of my favorite pixar movies of all time. and i want to talk abt it cause no one else will.
i don’t know what drew me in first. the fact that it was a love story which i was NOT expecting given the awkward vanilla mayonnaise way it was advertised. maybe it’s the fact that it’s a story about a child of immigrants first and foremost, a point that got me right in the chest.
Y’all i don’t know; it was the weird and amazing visuals, it was the relatability, it was the cute love story that didn’t feel forced or weird in the slightest.
it was funny, heartfelt and fucking adorable. i’ve never seen my story told through animation like this before in such a creative and articulate way (not the love part lol but the child of immigrants bit).
Respectfully, this movie had the worst fucking drop date in HISTORY. and i know it’s gonna flop. No one’s gonna give this the chance it deserves and pixar put zero energy into promoting this the way it needed to be knowing that it had atsv AND the little mermaid to compete with it.
All i ask is that you give it some love. I really think you’d like it
8.5/10
**the theaters are draining my bank account smh**

If I had a nickel for every time an Asian American director/writer made an A+ queer modern day romcom adaptation of a classic piece of Western literature, I’d have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's cool that it happened twice.
