1931 René Gillet Type "J" (1000 cc) | France
René Gillet is the oldest French motorcycle company. It made machines with both two-stroke and four-stroke engines from 49cc to 1000cc. Its first motorcycle rolled off the assembly line in 1895, but the brand itself originated only in 1898. Mass production of Rene Gillet Type "L" motorcycle began in 1930.
This model is very similar to the American Harley-Davidson motorcycles, both externally and technically, although, of course, it does not compare with them in popularity.
Unlike the model "J" equipped with the same 1000 ccm engine, the model "J" lacks rear suspension.
The motorcycle is fitted with a Bernardet Grand Tourisme sidecar. Information supplied by Acvb Club Bernarde

hi! youre smart, and know about animals - i am looking for a trainer or behaviorist or somethin. do u have any advice for how to find a good one? like what to look for? are there certifications i should see? i don't know much (as you can tell haha) but i know there's some who are into the whole Dominance thing which is wrong & harmful and I don't want that, and there's those that are doing more helpful things that focus on the wellbeing of the dogs. can u help me? even just some keywords thank u
Well I sure am glad that *someone* thinks I’m smart and that I know about animals, because I sure don’t believe that and I’m pretty sure all the clinicians roll their eyes at me at least once daily.
Anyway, I would recommend a veterinary behaviorist. These are vets that have completed vet school, done internships and residencies, and published first-author papers and case studies in order to qualify themselves to sit for the board exam of the American College of Veterinary Behavior. There’s nothing wrong with other accreditations, it’s just that a lot of issues can and/or should be assisted by anti-anxiety medications in addition to behavior modification, which non-vets are not able to prescribe. Some veterinary behaviorists will get other behavior accreditations too, but not all of them will decide to go that route. The letters after their name will be Dr. Firstname Lastname, DVM, DACVB. You can find one through the ACVB website.
If that’s not an option, you can also look for an Associate Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist (ACCAB) or Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist (CAAB). The Animal Behavior Society webpage (which is the group that certifies these behaviorists) has a really good breakdown of these two certifications, but in summary, the ACCAB has a master’s degree in a biological or behavioral science from an accredited college or university which includes at least 30 semester credits of behavior science, including ethnology, animal behavior, animal learning and psychology. They also have at least two years of professional experience in applied animal behavior, as well as significant supervised and independent practice in the field. To become a CAAB, the applicant must have earned a doctoral degree in a biological or behavioral science and have five years of professional experience or have a doctorate in veterinary medicine, two years of supervised residency practice and three years of professional experience. In addition, they must have presented or contributed to a talk or poster presentation at the ABS annual meeting. You can find one of these here or by contacting the ABS.
Basically, anyone with a degree in animal behavior can call themselves an animal behaviorist, but only Certified animal behaviorists and DACVB’s have the advanced degrees, experience, and recommendations from colleagues to back that up.
Good on you for recognizing that dominance theory is bullcrap!

Do Dogs Mean to Be Mean?"
Il contenuto di Why Wait for the Bite?

Why Do Cats Chase Their Tails?
Tail chasing is frequently observed in kittens and young cats. From a very early age, kittens explore their new world and practice their hunting skills. They also actively engage in play and frequently chase and jump on moving objects, even if it is the tip of a wiggling tail — including their own! However, tail chasing in older cats is an uncommon and abnormal behavior. We spoke with Dr. Vanessa Spano, a veterinarian at Behavior Vets in New York City, who revealed that it’s actually not a great sign. Why do cats chase their tails? Here are some things to think about if your cat is chasing its tail.
Why do cats chase their tails?
“Likely, there is an underlying behavioral or medical cause,” Dr. Spano explained. It could actually be a sign of health conditions including:
Compulsive behavior
Anxiety
Lack of stimulation
Pain
Skin irritation
Neurological disease
Seizures
Since tail-chasing is an indicator that there could be something more serious going on with your cat, Dr. Spano recommends that the very first thing you do is talk to a vet, a behaviorist, or, in some cases, both. But once you have a treatment plan, there are also things you can do at home to supplement it. Dr. Spano said,
If you catch your kitty [chasing his tail], consider reevaluating how much enrichment is provided for them,
It’s possible that your cat is just lacking some quality playtime, so providing more toys or attention could get the tail-chasing to stop. But sometimes, your cat’s anxiety is the cause, which requires a more serious approach. According to Dr. Spano, if anxiety is sending your cat into a (literal) tailspin, the first thing you should do is remove those triggers. And if the chasing is still happening, you should stop your kitty just before he starts, and try to get him to focus on something else to break the habit.
If you catch your kitty chasing his tail in certain contexts, such as when a guest comes over or during handling, these triggers may actually be anxiety-inducing. If you catch your cat about to engage in tail-chasing behavior, redirect them and have them engage in an incompatible, fun behavior like playing fetch or tossing them a treat.
Remember that a cat chasing his tail isn’t always playful or fun. Seek vet care any time your cat is causing damage to his tail or you suspect that he’s chasing his tail out of discomfort. If the issue seems behavioral and not medical, search for a veterinary behaviorist in your area by checking out the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists (ACVB). These experts will evaluate your cat’s specific situation and help you decide what to do next.

Is Your Cat a ‘Scratcher?’
Tumblr media
If you have a cat, you know they love to scratch. They scratch when they stretch. They scratch when you’re petting that special spot behind their ear. And, they scratch to mark their territory.
On top of all these reasons, they would need to scratch regardless to continue sharpening their claws and keep them healthy.
All this scratching they’re doing can really put some damage on our home.
Can Scratching be Prevented?
Scratching can’t be prevented, but it can be limited to certain surfaces. The best tactic here is to have scratching posts through your home.
Offering scratching posts with different qualities can also be helpful in this circumstance. Some cats love cardboard. Other cats love scratching wood. And, the next cat may prefer to scratch carpet. Some cats enjoy vertical scratching posts… others enjoy horizontal. It’s all about preference. And, sometimes your cat might want to mix it up.
The scratching post must be sturdy. Keep that in mind. If your cat starts scratching the post and it falls over, they’re probably not going back to that one.
What if My Cat Doesn’t Show Interest?
If your cat doesn’t show any interest in the scratching post (don’t worry, this is a common problem), you can encourage her by hanging toys from the post. Or, you can search for posts that contain catnip to spark her curiosity.
Prevent Scratching the No-No’s
If your cat has a favorite place in the house to scratch that’s a definite no-no, your best bet would be to put plastic over those items using double-sided sticky tape. Then, place a scratching post next to that object.
If it comes down to potentially re-homing your cat, you might want to consider the plastic caps for your cat’s claws. Then, there won’t be any damage to any items he or she scratches. The caps attach to your cat’s claws and last approximately 4-6 weeks.
What About Declawing?
There are many cat lovers who will automatically jump to declawing their cat. But, there’s a problem here. Declawing your cat won’t improve any type of behavioral issue—like aggression. The only difference is your cat won’t be able to damage your furniture anymore.
But, is it worth it to put your cat through such an extensive procedure?
The declawing procedure doesn’t only involve removing the claws. The procedure involves an amputation of the entire last digital bone on each of the front toes. When recovering from this procedure, our cats are in extreme pain. There’s also risk that comes along with the anesthesia, risk of infection, risk of excessive bleeding, and extended pain.
The Bottom Line on Scratching
There are many alternatives to consider if your cat is a big scratcher. Don’t immediately jump to re-homing or declawing. Give your cat a chance to learn the behavior is not appropriate first. And, show your kitty what is appropriate.
If you need help, don’t be afraid to call in a behaviorist. That’s what they’re there for. Using this link, you can find a Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist (CAAB or ACAAB) or a board-certified veterinary behaviorist (Dip ACVB).
