Bezoar 3

We are proud to announce Bezoar 3!
Bezoar is a monster-themed mini-comics anthology, started by a small group of Athens, GA cartoonists. However, for issue 3, we’re doing something a little different...
Bezoar contributor, incredible cartoonist, and wonderful pal Patrick Dean has recently come under some pretty severe health problems, being diagnosed with ALS.

As Patrick’s friends and fellow cartoonists, the Bezoar crew decided that we wanted to help out in any way we could. We decided it was time to put together a new issue of Bezoar, extend the net of creators further to include other friends & colleagues of Patrick’s, and use whatever funds come from it for his benefit! All money from sales of Bezoar 3 will go to Patrick and his family to assist with medical bills, quality of life, and just as a way to let them know we care.

So, let’s talk about Bezoar 3!
As with the previous issues, Bezoar’s theme is MONSTERS. Creators are welcome to interpret that however they like. Check out this killer list of contributors!
Drew Weing Patrick Dean Wes Brooks Wook Jin Clark Adam Daughhetee Duane Ballenger David Mack Shawn Daughhetee Scott Stripling J Chris Campbell Rich Tommaso Joey Weiser Eleanor Davis Lee Gatlin Michele Chidester
As you can see from a few examples posted below, Bezoar 3 has a wide variety of work, ranging from spooky to delightful in mood and art style!

This anthology is 40 pages of monster greatness! Now, you have a few options for how to read Bezoar 3...

Limited Edition - Screen printed color cover, only 50 available, $10.
***The Limited Edition is sold out! Thanks for your support!***
Regular Edition - Black & white cover, $5.
***The Regular Edition is now only available for purchase in person, at conventions, zine fairs, etc. The Digital Edition is still available!***
Digital Edition - ALL THREE Bezoar issues in one bundle! PDF versions of Bezoar 1, 2, and 3. Available as a Pay-What-You-Want Download!

The beautiful cover was created by David Mack who screen printed the Limited Editions. The logo, designed by Drew Weing, is hand-stamped and embossed on each cover, both Limited and Regular Editions!
We’re all very proud of this book, and we all hope that you’ll check it out! Be it the Limited, Regular, or Digital Edition, this is a great way to help out a member of our community and get some great monster comics!

Since it would have been Fluke and Small Press Expo, that means the latest Dollar Bin would have been released by Adam and Shawn Daughhetee! The theme was DIY and I did this retro themed public service announcement.

Other Comics News Parade-O-Links 01232017
(Captain America #344 1988. Cover by Ron Frenz and Al Milgrom. Stolen from Cover Browser.)
Here are some things I found interesting in the world of minicomics, comic books, graphic novels, small press, self publishing, zines, webcomics, cartoons, digital comics, other, etc. during the week weeks ending 01232017.
"Brutal. The guy likes being the top of the heap and he likes staying there. He’d be an all-term president and probably serve as vice president and most of the cabinet too. Except secretary of agriculture. Bane has no interest in where his food comes from. Only that it’s hit when it arrives. Or someone will pay." -Chuck Dixon on what President Bane would be like.

Hello sisters and brothers of teh intronets and welcome to another episode of your Other Comics News Parade-O-Links. My name is Shannon and I'll be your host. Last week was pretty crazy huh? But here we are. We made it. Most of us. Saturday was an inspiring day. Millions of people around the world making their voices heard. Millions standing together. I didn't march anywhere. I took care of my two daughters though so that has to count for something right? I'm not a woman (spoiler) but I am a dad and I tell you this, kids notice. Kids notice when women or minorities create their favorite comic books, cartoons, music, movies and video games. They notice when people stand up for themselves or others or for what they believe in. They notice when people march for a cause. They notice and it shapes their reality. The reality where it wasn't impossible no longer exists the second they see the one where it is possible. Much thanks to all of those that fight the good fight. It's bigger than you know.
youtube
Lots of talk this week about "breaking into comics". I guess everyone on twitter had the same new year's resolution to finally get their act together and get paid to make comics. There were some good tips in there and some decent jokes. I recommend Robert Venditti's testimony on the subject. I don't know how to group tweets together or whatever but you can find his story of how he "broke into comics" on his twitter feed. He has what I think is an ideal comics career; mainstream work with multiple publishers as well as creator owned work. Read his story for yourself but the short version of how he built that career is that he 1) worked hard and 2) he put himself and his work in physical proximity to world of publishing. You might make it with either one of those two things but I doubt you make it without doing both. Especially the work. Even if you get lucky, and fool your way in, without the work, it will catch up to you.
youtube
The Dollar Bin's Adam Daughhetee and company are making a documentary on comics creators that will include Laura Martin, Sanford Greene, Van Jensen, Joey Weiser, Andy Runton and others. The production blog has started here.
Now you can easily make sure that everyone you know is aware of your feelings about Josh Latta.
You comics folk are all reading Grant Morrison's The Savage Sword of Jesus Christ in Heavy Metal magazine right?
Bane creators support Trump. I'm pretty sure Chuck Dixon has supported all the Republican presidents. I support Chuck Dixon Punisher and Batman comics but was kinda bummed out by Chuck Dixon Green Arrow comics. I vote against Chuck Dixon Green Arrow comics.
Whenever the question is "where have I seen/heard that before" the answer is always comics.
I bet the average day for cartoonist Shia LaBeouf is a lot different than most cartoonists.
ABPN. Always be punching Nazis.
And finally, our man Francis bids a fond farewell to 2016...
youtube
Remember pals, life is hard. Never stop running unless it's to pick up a friend. Read comics and chew Glorp every day and you'll keep on livin' until you're dead.
youtube
Your best pal ever, Shannon Smith
p.s. I write comics. Do you make comics? Maybe you should hire me to write comics.
p.p.s Say you want a leader but you can't seem to make up your mind. I think you'd better close it and let me guide you to my twitter feed.
p.p.p.s. Let's pretend we went to high school together on facebook.
p.p.p.p.s. Google + is another place you can read the same thing I posted here.
p.p.p.p.p.s. I'll tumblr for ya.
p.p.p.p.p.p.s. Yeah, I do Instagram too. I guess it's a law or something.

This weekend would have been SPX and last weekend would have been the rescheduled Fluke but an abdication of federal leadership and the revelation that a lot of Americans are selfish monsters resulted in everything being cancelled! Instead, with the encouraging of Shawn Daughhetee we have Quaran-Fluke-PX #qfpx2020
Here’s an approximation of what I would have set up. (I got to the table first and am waiting for Henry Eudy or Jordan Mooney to split the table. There’s an empty spot beside me too for the other. And of course I’d want to be set up across from Adam Daughhetee or J Chris Campbell or Rob Ullman.)
You have the original art portfolios to flip through (and take $5 off any price!), there are The Path Of The Cafe Ninja zines, last year’s Demon Babes art book, the Mermaids sketch book, and I relented and did *one* more print run of Aliens VS Predator VS Brown VS the Board of Education. Debuting would have been a zine with all 560 movies I saw in 2019 with some selected illustrations and reviews. Of course there’d be stickers, but now it would take two displays!
Cons aren’t all about selling, it’s fun to walk around, and Shawn sent the official QFPX2020 shopping bag and Fluke bucks to spend! (I need Robert Newsome and Patrick Dean to tell me if this is legal tender.)
