So yet again I’m going around, commissioning art.  So I commissioned art from the amazing @caffeinatedrogue for a few friends, @thettempest and @tevinter-pariah and oh my god???? wow????? Adeline is so beautiful and wonderful—I like her so much! Apologies if you’ve already answered this before but I’m curious about her. What is her family (the Trevelyans) like? How does she feel about them?

(putting everything under a read more bc i didn’t realize how long it was whoops)

they’re a pretty big family - she has three siblings, a niece and a nephew (+ more, post-inquisition), an uncle, a great-uncle, her great-aunt lucille, and a whole mess of cousins. (her father’s family, in contrast, is extremely small; both his parents were only children and he himself is an only child. this is a relief for the trevelyan siblings when they’re learning their family tree)

her parents are good, supportive people who spend rather more time with their children than is usually done with nobles, but from a very young age the trevelyan kids were learning how to run a bannorn, gardening, and swordsmanship from their mother and accounting, archery, and baking from their father (they learn horseback riding from both, which adeline is… much more skilled at than wielding either a sword or a bow). her mother is bright and outgoing, her father quiet and kind. their marriage is one of mutual love and respect, and they will accept nothing less for their children.

their branch of house trevelyan as a whole is pious and extremely generous to both the chantry and the poor. adeline’s uncle is a knight-commander in the templars, her second brother julien begins training as a templar shortly before adeline goes to the circle, and they have several cousins in the templars or the chantry itself.

she was as close as she could be to her siblings growing up - her eldest sister natalie is nine years older than her, thomas is seven, and julien is one, so she spends most of her time with julien (to the point where people thought they were twins), but once they’re all older (especially after she’s inquisitor) she and natalie become much closer. thomas is very much an aloof (but still protective) older brother; he ends up becoming better friends with cullen than he ever does with adeline.

so she was completely devastated when she was taken to the circle at 12. she’s always been reserved and a bit of a homebody with an anxious nature, especially compared to her more outgoing family, so she doesn’t take the separation well and ends up focusing most of her time on studying. she is allowed a lot of leeway in the circle and she uses basically all of it to send and receive regular letters to/from her family and to visit home as often as she can, though she doesn’t get to see julien very much until his defection from the templars in 9:40. the only person she writes more letters to than him is her father (and, eventually, cullen, but that’s beside the point).
