Vamptember Day 13 - Tiara
{puscifer - bullet train to iowa}
tapestries & tile - part i
Warm breeze teases through Marius’s hair as he holds Daniel by the hips, dragging him closer, the hard stone of their balcony digging into his lower back. Half-seated on the ledge, one leg crooked with a foot perched on the baluster. Ahead of him, Daniel breathes a small whimper of pleasure, and behind him is the noise of traffic and static of the ocean.
They’re both buzzed, from Little Drinks at the night club, one of the songs from the DJ set stuck in Daniel’s head, phantom bass still pulsing in him as he leans in to suck at Marius’s bottom lip.Traces of someone else’s drink on his mouth—whiskey cola, Marius guesses. Something in him recognizes the stickiness of it, knows how sugar tastes to a blood drinker, even if it all tastes of poison to him in the end. Still, the ghost of it there is exciting, leftover evidence of a victim, and it makes Marius tingle.
80’s night at the club, and the DJ kept sampling all these atrocious old songs. Daniel joked to Marius at one point that they shouldn’t have been excavated, that not everything deserves immortality. But there was some sense of fondness in his voice, dreamy look in his eyes.
Daniel’s arms circle around Marius’s shoulders, and Marius has to open his legs to make space for him as they crush into each other, just breathing for a moment. Marius savors the warmth, the scent of humans stuck to his clothes, letting it wash through him for a beat before going for the throat.
He tastes different than he used to. Healthier with each month that passes, his blood full of the personality that had been lost. Full of feelings, and memories, and he’s so confident with the way he shares it. There’s never a sense of shame afterwards, knowing what Marius may have seen there, just the generous truth of it.
And now.
The heat hits the roof of Marius’s mouth, and he can feel the sludgy echo of the song in Daniel’s head, like the DJ unlocked some memory.
One of the dance clubs on the Night Island—Marius may have been there, he can’t quite be sure, but he knows because Daniel knows. It had a disco ball and checkered floor and Armand had commissioned tacky murals to cover all of the walls.
Daniel remembers his head was pounding—a little too much to drink, and he had trouble keeping his balance, and the colored lights everywhere were smearing together. Frankie Goes to Hollywood was playing way too loud, and he was too uncoordinated to dance along, but all the humans were fawning over him that night. Girls were touching him and cooing, and kept adjusting the tiara on his head when it would slide down to the side. Ridiculous thing that Armand had forced on him, but he’d been in that perfectly-drunk stage, just a couple hours ago, and had found it funny at the time.
Now he wants to go home.
It’s too loud, and he can’t see Armand. He turns carefully in a circle, afraid he’ll puke if he moves too fast, eyes scanning over all the shiny bodies, errant limbs and sprayed hair, but he’s adrift in the crowd, all alone.
And some girl near him. Her nails bite into Daniel’s forearm and her eyeliner makes her look mean. She frowns at him, so tall in her heels that she gazes down into his face, and his vision doubles as he stares back at her.
“You’re too drunk, princess,” she says. “You’re the birthday girl, you can’t ruin your own party.”
“S’not my birthday,” Daniel slurs, but he doesn’t think she hears him.
“Open your mouth,” she commands.
Daniel wonders if Armand sent her. If she knows something, and who she is, and why she’s here. But he obeys her, anyway, without meaning to. Vision softening as he opens his mouth, unsure what he’s waiting for.
“You’re dehydrated, baby,” she says, and Daniel hadn’t noticed the glass bottle in her free hand. Fancy water that Armand insisted they stock at all the bars. Her nails click against its cool gleaming body as she pours some into his mouth.
Some of it spills on his chin, and he wipes it with the back of his hand. Room spinning as the water hits his stomach. She adjusts his tiara for him, and taps him on the nose.
“Good girl,” she says, and then she’s gone in the crowd.
His head lolls back, and he stares up at the disco ball. And water didn’t help. Just makes him feel more full, makes his stomach slosh uncomfortably. Doesn’t help the spins, and the disco ball doesn’t help either. Makes it worse, actually, but it takes a minute for his brain to catch up, and for him to look away.
Armand is there now, where the girl had been. Right in front of Daniel on the dance floor, with all the colors catching on his unnatural smooth skin.
“You’re too drunk, princess,” he repeats. His face stays expressionless, his voice flat.
(It always chills Marius, seeing memories like this. Impossible to ignore that he isn’t the lively boy from Venice anymore, impossible not to notice that something happened.)
Daniel rubs a hand over his chest, over the bloom of heartburn in the wake of too many tequila shots.
“You’re the birthday girl,” Armand mimics again, in the eerie deadpan. His eyebrow quirks as Daniel sways on his feet, and a sarcastic twang wraps itself around his accent as he tries to imitate her. “You can’t ruin your own party.”
“M’gonna be sick,” Daniel mumbles.
Armand glances up and down Daniel’s body. Tilts his head as if listening. Daniel’s stomach gurgles and he wonders if he can make it to the bathroom in time, can’t actually remember where it is, but Armand’s cold hand is around his forearm before he can figure it out. Mind five steps behind as they weave through the dance floor, stumbling behind without a clue where they’re going.
His ears ring as they cross the threshold into the bathroom, as the door slams shut behind them. The music muffled instantly, and heat turned down. He feels clammy in the cool air, and the mosaic of the tiles blur as he tries to decide which toilet to go for.
It’s empty, he thinks. Can’t be sure. Oddly grimy in here, despite Armand’s standards. But, it usually is by the end of the night. It’ll be good as new by the time they reopen tomorrow. But there’s paper on the floor, and the garbage can is overflowing, and the faint smell of piss makes him wonder about the subtle damp layer across the tiles.
“Open your mouth,” Armand says. He looks like a teenager from here, gazing up at Daniel, but he’s so freaky in the unforgiving white overhead light. Daniel glances towards the shiny green toilet stalls, mouth watering as his stomach cramps, but Armand has a hand on his shoulder before he can move. He’s too short, he shouldn’t be so strong. Uncanny that Daniel buckles beneath it, sinks straight down to his knees.
Already drunk enough and ready to be sick, but the wetness that soaks into his pants off the floor almost has him gagging. So near the urinals that he can smell the deodorant cake from here, down on the floor, at eye level. They never really work, do they? They just create something new.
“Open your mouth,” Armand repeats.
The tiara slips as Daniel tilts his head back, catching sharp in his hair so it doesn’t fall. Armand is so tall from here, towering over him. Eyes stormy as he looks down. Daniel opens up, and Armand’s hand grips him tight on the jaw. Enough to hurt, enough that Daniel doesn’t move.
“Good girl,” Armand mumbles, and spits into his mouth.
Marius swallows, licks over the wounds as they heal, and his whole body shakes with need as he comes up for air.

i’m not yours - part 11
summary: Daryl and you are friends. He used to date Leah. You told him you loved him and things fell apart, but after awhile, you returned to being friends... right?
Daryl finally realises who attacked Y/N both of the times, and decides to pay them a visit at the secluded cabin in the woods.
words: 3.3k
warnings: rough language, assault trigger warning, angry Daryl
A/N: Hello, muffins! Here's part 11 of 15 I have planned for this series. I have no idea how to write angrily, I'm not much of an angry person so it was hard to do, but here we are! Kay, enjoy! <3
Read previous part here!
Daryl came out of the bathroom, drying his hands on his shirt and looked around for his best friends. She wasn't at the spot he'd seen her last, mingling with some friends. Looking through the crowd, he saw that she was heading to the staircase at the back of the mess hall, her faded turquoise green, short dress flashing in the corner of his eye.
He had to admit, he had to do a double take, maybe even triple take, when they met right before Aaron’s party. He'd never seen her like that before. She always wore combat clothes like cargo pants and tight tops that couldn't be tugged by any walkers. But tonight, she looked like one of the models from his father’s magazine stacks he found once when he was just a young boy. Not in a whore-ish, messy way, but in a beautiful, sexy way, which made his stomach knot in a way he never experienced before. Her skin was somehow glowy in the moonlight and her dress fitted perfectly, hugging each curve.
What the fuck is wrong with me, he thought to himself, catching himself thinking thoughts he shouldn't think. She's my best friend!
He shook his head to make the thoughts go away, even though it was hard, and he made his way towards the stairs. He wanted to make sure she was okay. The last couple of weeks made him worried about her safety. He thought long and hard about how she managed to get on someone’s bad side enough to get her ass beaten. It wasn’t like her to make enemies. She was liked by pretty much everybody. He couldn't find a single person that disliked her in the entire community, and outside of it. There was just something about her that people liked.
He pushed through the crowd of people gently swaying to some soft playing music and stepped into the small hallway, looking up at her figure at the top of the stairs. She looked like she was searching the hallway, trying to make a decision either to walk further down or stay rooted in her place. Her face was contorted in a puzzled way.
“What are you doing up there?” he asks and he sees a little jump her body makes at the sound of his voice. She turns on her heel and looks down at him.
“Nothing,” she mumbles.
Of course, he didn't believe her. She was lying and he knew it. If she thought that he couldn't read her, she was wrong, but he wasn't going to mention anything. She looked like he caught her red-handed, her hand awkwardly rubbing her arm, her teeth hooked on her bottom lip. Her eyes dart around one more time before she takes a step forward, to a white baluster. She leans forward and she flashes her cleavage which makes Daryl look away, his throat suddenly a bit dry.
When he speaks again, his voice sounds a bit hoarse. “Okay. Get back down here then."
Darkness.
That's the next thing he could see. Nothing, but a glare of moonlight on shiny surfaces. It takes a little bit of time to adjust his eyes to the darkness surrounding him. He takes a few steps forward, his eyes locked on her figure upstairs, but then…
Crack. Swish. Bang. Thud.
Daryl’s whole body, but especially his head, hits the ground with a thud when her body falls right on top of him. His eyes wide open, when he sees a silhouette upstairs. Silhouette of a woman, running down the corridor and he could’ve sworn he saw some blonde hair swinging. But one thing he most definitely saw was a silver flower hair tie that only one person wore at all times because it was a family heirloom. He furrows his brow, suddenly some things becoming clearer to him. He then looks at his best friend scrambling up and he does the same.
“Are you okay?” He asks her, looking her up and down, making sure she wasn't hurt. She pulled her dress down and nodded.
“Yeah. Are you?” Her question rings through the air, just like the steps of people coming out of the living room and stepping into a small hallway.
“Nothing I cannot handle,” his eyes looked upwards again. He could feel his heart racing. Was it really who he thought it was?
Aaron and Eric showed up soon after asking about what happened and checking both of them for injuries. She told them about the situation in as little detail as she could which made Daryl think that something was definitely off here. Did she know who it was?
Once the couple was satisfied with what they saw, they patted hers and Daryl's shoulders and they gently made the crowd of people go back to the centre of the mess hall and someone turned the power back on. The music got louder and people started dancing, a faint shuffle of bodies and click and clank of heels could be heard.
Daryl started picking up the pieces of wood without a word and she was quick to help him out. You took the wood to the back shed, where it will either serve as repurposed wood or a fire starter.
Daryl couldn’t stop thinking about the situation. That goddamn silver flower in a hair tie. The blonde hair. He knew. He knew and it was making him angry. Who the hell does she think she is? Why does she think that she’s allowed to do that without any type of consequences? If she’s able to push his best friend down the stairs, was she the one who attacked her weeks ago and broke her bones?
After all the wood has been collected and put away, he looks at her, trying to see through her. Once he realised that is it all in vain, he sighed.
"I'm gon' go home," he said. "Don't want to be here anymore."
"Okay," she answered, nodding a couple of times. "Walk me home?"
He agreed and then began to walk. His hands were in his pockets, and his thoughts were not present in the current situation. He was far away, already planning a route to Leah's little cabin. She didn't stay in Alexandria after their break up, but he knew exactly where to find her. After all, he spent a lot of time there, especially when they both needed some privacy from Alexandrian ever-listening ears. There was nothing that could stop him now. He was going. The darkness would make the perfect cover to sneak out and deal with it.
Once they reach her house, she invites Daryl in for another drink, probably sensing how tense and angry he is. He refuses quickly, making up an excuse of being tired and needing some rest before tomorrow's supply run. He knew that she wouldn't believe him but she wouldn't argue with him either, so it was perfect. They say their goodbyes and Daryl heads down the street to his house. He could feel her eyes on his back, almost burning a hole. She knew.
After changing his clothes into his usual attire, he slings his crossbow over his shoulder and heads over to the back entrance of Alexandria. He knew someone would be guarding it, but he thought of an excuse already. His plan was in motion and he was determined to speak with Leah and make sure she didn't hurt anyone again. Especially his best friend. She was too precious for him to see her aching like she had in the past weeks.
When he gets to the gates, he sees Abraham on the guard and nods to him firmly.
"Open the gates," he says, motioning to the gates behind Abraham.
"Where are you going in the middle of the night?" Abraham asks with a smirk on his face. "Some sort of hot date?"
Daryl scoffs. "You could say that."
Redhead doesn't ask any more questions, he just opens the gates enough for Daryl to slip through. He nods appreciatively and disappears into the darkness of the woods. His eyes take time to adjust to the forest around him, but soon enough he is stepping confidently, his legs knowing where to take him. His mind was filled with the darkest thoughts. It was hard for him to stop knowing that Leah hurt his best friend. Twice. In less than three months.
He couldn't deny the fact that he wanted to hurt her. He wanted her to feel what Y/N felt. It was like there was a little devil on his shoulder telling him to do some fucked up things. And he was close to acting on them.
He stopped for a minute and leaned against the tree to calm his running thoughts. Taking a few deep breaths, he scanned his surroundings, checking if there were any threats around. He let out the last breath with a whistle, pushing himself off the tree and began walking again. He felt calmer, and he hoped that his murderous thoughts would stay at bay so he could talk to her.
Finally, the run-down, small cabin in the woods pops into sight and there is a faint light of a fireplace and some candles peaking through the windows. Daryl pressed his lips together and charged forward. He didn't even bother knocking on the door, he just opened them with a swing and stepped inside.
And there she was. Sitting in a chair in front of the fireplace, sharpening a piece of wood. Her blonde hair was in a loose plait and her all-black outfit almost made her fuse with the darkness around her. She stops in her tracks and her head pops up to look at Daryl.
"Daryl," she says with a smirk.
Daryl curls his hands into fists. "Leah."
"I'm happy to see you," she says sweetly, getting up from her chair.
"Can't say the same," he murmured, looking her up and down. She was making his blood boil with how fake and incredulous she sounded.
Leah's head tilted to the side and her smile falters a little when she hears him speak. She puts down the sharpened piece of wood on the table beside her and sighs deeply. She takes a few steps towards Daryl.
"I've missed you," she says quietly, a bit too sexually to Daryl's liking.
He furrows his brow in almost disgust. Once, it would've made him hard - her sultry voice and the way she was presenting herself. He probably would've fucked her right on that table, twice, until she was screaming his name, but now? Now, all he could feel was disgust, disappointment, and most of all, anger. Deep, searing anger towards her for ever putting her hands on his best friend.
He clutched his fists even harder, his knuckles turning white.
"Was it you?" He seethes through his teeth.
"Huh?"
"Do. Not. Even think. About faking. Ignorance."
Daryl's voice was strained. He was struggling with keeping composure. She was infuriating with her feigned innocence. He couldn't believe she would keep this up. It was obvious why he was here, wasn't it? He didn't miss her. He didn't want her back. He was here because he finally figured her out. He finally saw her for who she was - a master manipulator, aggressor, a person who takes what she wants and doesn't ask for it.
Leah looks at him for a long time, just scanning his demeanour and his stance. He was doing the same, trying to keep his cool as much as possible, but all he could think about was hurting her as badly as she hurt her.
"You hurt her," he says slowly. "You broke her ribs and her face, and for what?"
"It wasn't me."
"Oh, so it wasn't you, pushing her tonight?"
"No."
"Another fucking lie."
"I—"
She doesn't finish, looking at him a bit frightened. Good, he thought. He was getting to her. That's what he wanted. He wanted her to admit the truth. He wanted her to be afraid, to realise that he could be a threat. Daryl kept looking into her eyes, his angry reflection staring right back at him.
"You know how I know?" he asks, and then reaches around her head and pulls her hair in a motion that makes her hiss in pain. "This."
He puts his fingers up, the silver flower hair tie dangling on it, shining in the warm light of the fireplace. It was swinging lightly as Leah looked at it, her eyes widened a little, and her bottom lips trembled ever so slightly. Daryl could see her swallowing hard.
"You would've thought you'd be at least a bit wiser before you decide to hurt people I care about. At least prepare right before," his voice was low and dangerous. Every word sounded like a threat.
"She deserved it," Leah's hissed all of a sudden, which made Daryl smirk.
There it is.
There is the confession.
"Deserved it?" he scoffs, throwing the hair tie in the corner of the room. Leah's eyes follow the hair tie and her body jerks a little when the hair hits the wall. "Deserved being beaten? Deserved being thrown off the stairs?"
"She deserved it for taking you away from me!"
The words bounced off the cabin walls, followed by complete silence. Daryl stared her down, his annoyance only climbing higher. He wasn't shocked. He expected something along those lines. Leah proved with their argument weeks ago when they broke up just how crazy she could be. He just never thought she was capable of doing horrible things. He knew she could spew venom left and right. That was not a surprise. But attacking his friends?
"You must be joking," he huffs, taking a step back from her to keep himself from doing something stupid.
"Not even close. Bitch had it coming."
Daryl's blood boiled. "Don't call her that."
Leah scoffs and throws her hands in the air like she is frustrated at him. She looked at him for a minute, standing in place. But then something changed. Her hands then landed on his chest and she caressed it, gently and sensually. He snickered and looked away for a second just to grip her wrists and pull them away from him.
"What the fuck is this?" He asks, his eyes were cold and steady.
"I did it for you. For us," she explains. "We are perfect for each other and you know it."
"Jesus Christ," he huffs a dry laugh. "You're the most delusional person I have ever known."
Leah looks hurt by his words. She takes a step closer to him, her wrists still in his grip. She smiles at him, but something in her expression chills him to the bone. Her wrists twist in his hand, only making him tighten the grip. Her initial fear of him is replaced by something else. Something so much deeper. Something that makes Daryl almost feel bad for her.
Affection.
Admiration.
Love.
All of a sudden, she looked soft and caring. Her body almost pressed to Daryl's and her face contorted in a weak smile. Her eyes looked into his as if trying to look into his soul.
"Daryl, please, I still love you," she says quietly. The tone of her voice was pleading. "I want you, all of you. I know it wasn't fair to do what I did, but I love you so much!"
He let go of her wrists and furrowed his brows. "And you thought by hurting my friends, you'd get me back?"
"She was an obstacle and you know that!"
Her voice sounded too sweet. She was trying to mime him, to make him believe her and maybe make him think with his dick. But there was a problem. He didn't love her. He didn't find her attractive anymore. She was an enemy, almost like a different person. A stranger. When he looked at her, he didn't see a partner anymore. He didn't see the potential he saw months ago.
His head shook. "An obstacle? To what?"
"To living to your full potential! To loving me as I need to be loved. To feel my devotion to you!"
"So what, you attacked my friend and I'm supposed to thank you for it?!"
"I was hoping you could thank me in a way you used to…"
Daryl gripped the bridge of his nose, his face scrunching with disgust and disbelief. She was suggesting to have sex with her, like some horny teenager who's trying to prove that she can bend me to her will.
"So let me get this straight. You threw my best friend…" Daryl's face grimaced even more. "…No, no. You've beaten up, broken bones and bruised and…THREW MY BEST FRIEND OFF A LANDING JUST TO FUCK ME?"
"How else was I supposed to get your attention?" she asks, crossing her arms on her chest to accentuate her breasts as she pouted slightly.
Daryl stood there in shock, his eyes inevitably drifted to her chest, but he didn't feel any lust. All he could think about was how amazing his hunter knife would look in between them, stuck deep inside her and hugged between her bones. How her face would contort in pain and anguish, how her eyes would tear up a little and her mouth would open in a vibrant "o", portraying all the surprise and shock on her face. He was so angry, he wanted her dead. He wanted her to feel every single bit of the hatred he had for her.
"You know she's not good for you. Always whining, always dragging you to things you hate. Making you go to parties and socialise. I'd never do that, Dar," she says sweetly and takes a step towards him. "I want the best for you. I want you comfortable. I love you. Please… You know we are made for each other. You belong to me and I belong to you."
Leah grabs his cheeks out of the blue and kisses his lips, their teeth almost clashing with each other. Daryl stumbled backwards a little, and his hand quickly found her throat. He pushed her to the wall and pinned her against it, making her squeal. His eyes were most definitely the darkest shade of blue when he looked at her. And then he finally saw it. The pure fear. Not the fake, I'll-do-whatever-to-make-you-believe-I'm-actually-scared type of look. This was real. She may have finally believed that he was not going to break like he used to.
His hand clasped harder on her throat, making her choke for breath. "You and me will never happen again. You're a pathetic, little bitch," he presses his lips together. "She was right. I do not know what I've seen in you."
Her arms clutched on Daryl, begging for him to stop, her eyes wide and panicked. After a couple more seconds, he lets go of her neck and steps back. He clutched his hands into fists to try and calm himself down. He knew if he continued, he would've killed her and even though he thought about it, he wasn't okay with having her on his conscience for the last of his life.
He didn't say anything for a few minutes, but when he finally spoke, his words were like venom, coming out of his mouth before he could stop it. "You stay away from me, from Y/N, and from Alexandria. If I'll ever see you again, I swear to God, I will kill you."
Leah was speechless and he wasn't going to wait for her to answer. He turned on his heels and walked out the door, leaving Leah alone - just like she deserved to be. He slammed the doors on the way out, secretly hoping it will draw some walkers to the cabin and then, in disguise of night, he went back to Alexandria, his mind on his best friend.

Deck Railings Installation: A Complete Guide to Safety and Style
Deck railings are an essential component of any outdoor deck, providing safety, enhancing aesthetics, and adding value to your home. Whether you’re building a new deck or upgrading an existing one, deck railings installation is a crucial step that requires careful planning and execution.
In this guide, we’ll cover the importance of deck railings, material options, step-by-step installation tips, and common mistakes to avoid.
Why Deck Railings Are Important
1. Safety and Code Compliance
One of the main reasons for installing deck railings is to prevent accidents. Most building codes require railings on decks that are more than 30 inches above the ground. Properly installed railings provide support and stability, making decks safer for children, pets, and guests.
2. Enhanced Aesthetics
Deck railings come in various styles, materials, and finishes, allowing homeowners to customize their outdoor space. Whether you prefer a modern, classic, or rustic look, the right railing can enhance the overall appearance of your deck.
3. Increased Property Value
A well-installed and stylish deck railing adds to the curb appeal and value of your home. Potential buyers see a secure and visually appealing deck as an attractive feature.
Choosing the Right Material for Deck Railings
There are several material options available for deck railings installation, each with its own benefits and drawbacks.
1. Wood Railings
Pros: Classic look, easy to paint or stain, affordable.
Cons: Requires regular maintenance, susceptible to weather damage.
2. Metal Railings (Aluminum, Wrought Iron, Steel)
Pros: Durable, low-maintenance, modern aesthetic.
Cons: Higher cost, can rust if not properly coated.
3. Composite Railings
Pros: Weather-resistant, low-maintenance, available in various styles.
Cons: More expensive than wood, limited color options.
4. Glass Railings
Pros: Provides an unobstructed view, modern and elegant design.
Cons: Expensive, requires regular cleaning.
5. Cable Railings
Pros: Sleek and contemporary look, minimal visual obstruction.
Cons: Higher installation cost, tension adjustments may be needed over time.
Step-by-Step Guide to Deck Railings Installation
Step 1: Measure and Plan
Measure the perimeter of your deck to determine the length and number of railing sections needed.
Check local building codes for height and spacing requirements.
Step 2: Choose Your Railing System
Select the railing material and style that best fits your deck design and budget.
Purchase the necessary hardware, including posts, balusters, and fasteners.
Step 3: Install the Posts
Secure the railing posts to the deck structure using strong lag bolts or brackets.
Ensure that posts are evenly spaced and properly aligned.
Step 4: Attach the Top and Bottom Rails
Install the bottom rail first, making sure it is level.
Attach the top rail, securing it firmly to each post.
Step 5: Add Balusters or Panels
If using traditional balusters, space them according to local building codes (usually no more than 4 inches apart).
For glass or cable railings, install panels or tension cables carefully to maintain safety and stability.
Step 6: Secure and Finish
Double-check that all screws, bolts, and fasteners are tightened.
Apply paint, stain, or sealant if necessary to protect the railing from weather damage.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Ignoring Building Codes – Failure to meet safety standards can result in fines or a dangerous deck. Always check local regulations before installation.
Weak or Loose Fastening – Poorly secured railings can wobble or collapse over time. Use high-quality fasteners and double-check for stability.
Improper Spacing of Balusters – Gaps larger than 4 inches can pose a safety hazard, especially for children and pets.
Choosing the Wrong Material – Consider your climate, maintenance preferences, and deck style when selecting materials.
Conclusion
A well-installed deck railing enhances both the safety and beauty of your outdoor space. By choosing the right materials and following proper deck railings installation techniques, you can create a durable and stylish deck that will last for years to come.
Whether you're a DIY enthusiast or hiring a professional, careful planning and attention to detail will ensure a successful project. Ready to upgrade your deck? Start your deck railings installation today and enjoy a safer, more attractive outdoor space!

A Comprehensive Guide to Deck Removal
Decks provide an excellent outdoor space for relaxation, entertainment, and enjoying nature. However, over time, decks can deteriorate due to weather exposure, wear and tear, and structural issues. When a deck becomes unsafe or outdated, removal might be necessary. This guide will walk you through the essential steps and considerations for deck removal.
Best Deck Removal Company: Happy Panda
Why Remove a Deck?
Several reasons might prompt the removal of a deck, including:
Structural Damage: Rotting wood, broken boards, and unstable structures can pose safety hazards.
Upgrading: You might want to replace an old deck with a new design or a different outdoor feature.
Property Sale: Removing an old or unsightly deck can improve property value and appeal.
Landscaping Changes: Adjusting the layout of your yard or garden may require deck removal.
Steps for Safe Deck Removal
1. Planning and Preparation
Assess the Deck: Evaluate the condition of your deck to understand the scope of work required for removal.
Obtain Permits: Check with local authorities to determine if you need permits for deck removal.
Gather Tools and Safety Gear: Ensure you have the necessary tools (hammer, saw, pry bar, drill, etc.) and safety equipment (gloves, goggles, sturdy shoes).
2. Disconnect Utilities
If your deck has electrical wiring, lighting, or gas lines, make sure to disconnect these utilities safely. Consult a professional if you're unsure how to do this.
3. Clear the Area
Remove all furniture, plants, and other items from the deck and surrounding area to create a safe working environment.
4. Remove Railings and Accessories
Start by taking off railings, balusters, and any accessories. Use a drill or screwdriver to remove screws and a pry bar to detach nailed components.
5. Dismantle Deck Boards
Using a pry bar or hammer, carefully remove the deck boards. Start from one end and work your way to the other, removing each board one by one. Be mindful of nails and screws to avoid injury.
6. Disassemble the Frame
Once the boards are removed, begin dismantling the frame. Cut through support beams and joists with a saw, and use a pry bar to separate pieces. If your deck is attached to your house, carefully detach it to prevent damage to your home’s exterior.
7. Remove Footings and Posts
Depending on how the deck was constructed, footings and posts might be anchored in concrete. Dig around the posts and use a jack or lever to lift them out. For concrete footings, you may need a sledgehammer to break them apart.
Disposal of Deck Materials
Proper disposal of deck materials is crucial. Consider the following options:
Recycle: Wood, metal, and other materials can often be recycled. Check with local recycling centers.
Donate: If parts of the deck are in good condition, consider donating them to salvage yards or organizations.
Waste Removal: For materials that cannot be recycled or donated, arrange for waste removal. Many waste management companies offer construction debris pickup services.
Safety Considerations
Wear Protective Gear: Always wear gloves, safety goggles, and sturdy shoes to protect yourself from sharp objects and debris.
Be Cautious of Nails and Screws: Keep an eye out for protruding nails and screws that can cause injury.
Work with a Partner: Deck removal can be labor-intensive. Having a partner can make the process safer and more efficient.
Hiring a Professional
While DIY deck removal is feasible for many homeowners, hiring a professional can ensure the job is done safely and efficiently, especially for larger or more complex decks. Professionals have the tools, experience, and expertise to handle deck removal with minimal risk.
