Covering your school notebooks with the little pictures cut out of magazines

Having a stash of magazine clippings under your bed that you bring out and show to special people who understand your pain

Poring over tv listings just in case your band is making a tv appearance and you can set your VCR

Not having a VCR and having to go to your friend’s house to watch their tape

Going to your friend’s house every week to watch that damned tape that’s beginning to wear out because it’s your only way of watching your band

Dangling a microphone over the tv speaker so you can at least record the audio of your band’s tv appearance because you don’t have a VCR

Having that one rich friend who can afford all the albums and will give you cassette copies but their handwriting is crap so it’s hard to tell what the songs are actually called

Having posters of your band all over your bedroom walls because it’s the only way of looking at them because no internet

Skipping school to stand in line outside a venue for 4 hours to buy tickets because your band is coming to your city and the tickets go on sale on Tues morning at 8am and you have to be there physically because they’ll sell out the same day and you’d rather die than miss that show

Taking photos at the show with your dad’s old camera, waiting an agonizing week until the photos get developed, then being dismayed that all your pictures are blurry and shitty

Writing to the address on the inside of the cassette insert to ask if there’s a fan club you could join

Getting your parents to write out a cheque for the fan club membership so you can send it off with your application form

Being thrilled beyond measure when your quarterly Official Fan Club packet arrives with a print of a signed photo, the latest newsletter, and some stickers

Listening intently to the weekly top 40 chart rundown on the radio to see if your band is going up or down the charts

Wearing band merch at all times because it’s literally the only way to find a fellow fan to talk to

Feeling frustrated most of the time because you can never be sure that you’re not missing something

No internet, no youtube, how on earth did we cope?

my coworkers know that I go to a lot of concerts so today one of my managers asked if I saw afi last night. sadly i had not, but we talked about them for a few seconds before one of the teenagers who was working with us asked us who afi were. i felt so old. another teenage boy hadn’t heard of them before and was just like, well you’re old so..., is 23 offically old? am i out of touch with today’s youth and just stuck in the glory days of the mid-2000′s music???
