First is Thanksgiving and below you'll find some suggested resources for learning about and discussing this complicated "celebration" with your littles tomorrow. But, back to Advent. Or forward? Onward! I should say since I've created a series of "Advent Adventure" videos that will air each Sunday during the FirstPres virtual gathering and on our YouTube Channel. There is a printable pdf resource (click newsletter link below) that you can use alone or along with the video to create an Advent ritual with your family, reading, praying, lighting a "candle" and decorating an advent wreath. (If you need a printed copy, let me know, but...) You can also just use the videos which will prompt you to do quick activities and create your own ritual. Over the next weeks our "Advent Adventure" will take us on a journey to discover ways we can be prepared for the arrival of Jesus. This week the lectionary scripture focuses on our need to pay attention and not fall asleep on the job--there is much work to be done. Our lives (and those of others around us) don't change simply because a baby was born or because we say we believe in Jesus. Our faith needs action, praxis. There’s a quote attributed to Pope Francis: “You pray for the hungry, then you feed them. That is how prayer works.” We need to be doing the work of Jesus whether the "boss" from Mark 13:24-37 is watching or not. I hope you and your kids will join our Advent Adventure as we equip ourselves for this journey to the manger! Also, beginning on Sunday is the Advent Storywalk and I'm very excited about the beautiful and sweet picture book we've chosen to kick off this cool, outdoor and COVID-safe holiday activity.
