Ya! I finished and the movie itself was pretty good. Not theater worth but usually unknown movies aren't great, but story wise, this was entertaining! But definitely the strong point was the characters. Is that other movie the same with character design? If so, even if the story isn't great, I'll watch it just to get tips on character design.

Design wise, it's actually pretty weak. Animation wise? Really really weak. Story? Meh okay. I def won't completely recommend Adventures of Zambezia but I'm just going to watch all of Triggerfish's studio work hoping it will let them know in some small way we do in fact want more of their stuff.

I just watched a South African animated movie called Zambezia. I thought it was going to be a really shitty Rio knock-off, but it was actually really cute!

It won best Animation in the African Movie Academy Awards! The plot wasn't great, but it was better than half the things I've watched recently! I really liked the character designs and art for it! The little Sacred Ibis bird was my favorite!

Plus, Samuel L. Jackson was one of the characters, how epic is that.

Adventures In Zambezia

I just finished watching this, and I’ll keep the review short because a long one isn’t at all needed – It’s a wonderful children’s movie, it wouldn’t come even remotely close to being a favourite of mine – but there is a certain charm that children will love, including some adults (my mum absolutely loved it - though anything with birds she finds great) – it had a good storyline to it, and the characters were different – but that was also a downfall, some of the characters were quite annoying – but hey being different is great!

Recommend for a fun flick to watch with children, but I wouldn’t exactly put it in your ‘I’m feeling like reliving my childhood night with my favourite animated films’ but when it comes to animated films, each to their own – bird lovers may love it just that bit more.

 Rating: 6/10

My Adventures with Zambezia

  I'm thrilled to have been a part of the soundtrack to the Triggerfish produced animated movie, "Adventures in Zambezia" that is now out!

I was approached by composer Bruce Retief in late 2011, to assist with giving the songs a really African feel. I worked really hard on 5 tracks that all ended up in the movie. In October 2012 I accompanied Bruce to Los Angeles, recording the world's best musicians and to George Lucas's Skywalker Studios in San Francisco to sit in on the mixing and mastering of the tracks. (PS Skywalker Studios is home of the "Starwars" movies. Next door to us, they were mixing "Mission Impossible 4", so it's huge but that is a post for another day).

The movie was released in SA in December 2012 and it was a very proud moment to see my name, on the big screen, in the credits for Composition, Arrangements, Vocal Arrangements, Vocals and Co-production. Hopefully it's the first of many more :)

Here is a brief synopsis of the movie: A high-spirited, naive young falcon leaves his father to seek his fortune in Zambezia, the famed city of birds, only to discover that community is what really counts. Set in a bustling bird city on the edge of the majestic Victoria Falls, Zambezia (or Adventures in Zambezia) is the story of Kai - a naïve, but high-spirited young falcon who travels to the bird city of Zambezia where he discovers the truth about his origins and, in defending the city, learns how to be part of a community.

If you haven't see it yet, go now and take your kids - they will love it!
