Day 4 of the Moroccan trip: Tinghir - Ouarzazate / 360km - A fun 4th day from Tinghir to Ouarzazate going through Tazarine, Zagora, Agdz and long empty roads where we manage to break fuel consumption records: 6.3l/100km for the Golf and Miata and 7,2l/100km for the 911. Last part of the day driving along the Drâa Valley and the gorges near Alnif, an impressive road in the middle of massive “finger-formed” rocks. Maroc,

Experience the 4 Days Tour from Marrakech to Merzouga Desert Tour
To provide our team with an unforgettable adventure, I have crafted a detailed itinerary for the 4 days tour from Marrakech through the desert to Merzouga. Each day is planned to ensure a deep immersion in Morocco's rich cultural and natural beauty.
Day 1: Marrakech – Atlas – Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Skoura – Dades
The journey begins in Marrakech, an ancient capital of Morocco. Departing at 8 am, I will drive through the High Atlas Mountains, the highest peak in Morocco at 4,167m, passing through the Tizi N'Tichka pass. We will take a break for mint tea or coffee at an Amazigh hamlet. Next, I will visit the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and continue towards the Dades Valley. Passing through Kalaat M'Gouna and the Skoura Amazigh villages, I will arrive at the Dades Gorge to spend the night.
Day 2: Dades – Todra Gorges – Jorf – Erfoud – Merzouga (Camel Ride & Night in Desert)
After breakfast, I will continue through the Dades Valley, admiring the rock formations and Kasbahs. In the Todra Valley, I will walk along the river by the 300m high red cliffs, a favorite spot for rock climbers. Lunch will be in Rissani or Erfoud before heading to Merzouga, the village of golden sand. I will be welcomed with mint tea and then ride camels to a desert camp to enjoy the sunset and spend the night under an Amazigh tent.
Day 3: Merzouga – Rissani – Alnif – Nkob – Agdz – Ouarzazate
Early in the morning, I will wake up to watch the sunrise over the golden sands of Merzouga. After riding back to the village for breakfast and a shower, I will travel towards Ouarzazate, passing through diverse landscapes and villages. I will visit Rissani, where the Mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif, the grandfather of the current Moroccan king, is located. I will have lunch in one of the villages along the way and spend the night in Ouarzazate, known as the Hollywood of Morocco.
Day 4: Ouarzazate – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakech
After breakfast, I will start the journey from Ouarzazate, passing through the Valley of Roses, famous for its rose cultivation. I will visit the fortified village of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Continuing through the Tizi N'Tichka pass, I will take pictures of the breathtaking views. Finally, I will arrive in Marrakech, known in Tamazight as Amour N Akouch or the land of GOD, completing the Marrakech to Merzouga tour in the evening.
Throughout this Marrakech desert tour, I will ensure that every moment is filled with discovery and enjoyment, making it a truly memorable experience.

Othello day 7 - Ourzazate to Zagora
A great day today made tough by the relentless mostly head wind from about the 14km mark. The way out of Ourzazate was really straight forward and the road was nice. Then we started to climb, though nothing steep, though having said that It would have been good to have the real feel % on the Garmin because of the head wind. There was lots of peddling downhill so you didn’t just stop.
Coffee was at a cute place in the middle of nowhere about 4km from the top of the Tiz n Tinififft (by now you’ve probably deduced that Tiz or Tizi, we’ve seen it written both ways, means pass).
From the top of the pass it was a long descent on mostly excellent road, but still with that damn headwind. Jose and I regrouped at coffee and rode the rest of the day together.
We had a really nice lunch as a group in Agdz (except for two hearty souls who passed on lunch) and then turned off the main road and ran smack into a herd of baby goats and sheep - so cute.
This afternoon’s ride was fantastic! This was the Morocco that you picture, lots of date palms, beautiful blue sky, warm 😎 We cycled through lots of villages. I love the small children and young girls on the side of the road calling bon jour and waving, but my good humour is tested when the young boys stand across the road and want to touch me. I guess a blonde female on a bike is a novelty.
Unfortunately this afternoon we still had the headwind so I was pretty happy to hop off the bike at the 100km mark at Tanguerfa (I think). From there we were shuttled to our hotel in Zagora. There was the option to ride the 60km to the hotel but that headwind was still blowing so none other than the two who didn’t stop for lunch did.
Our accommodation is once again quite swish. Though for the first time we were questioned about our marital status, I think because they just had me down as Wakefield and it’s actually illegal to sleep together if you’re not married in Morocco.
After a few drinks and tale telling from the day we all headed off to make ourselves beautiful for dinner tonight which was by the pool and great fun. A great ending to a great day.
