I decided to share some practice head sketches as my ass needs to draw more. My muse being Kafka Hibino from Kaiju No.8 and some AU variations of him since this is my first drawing the man. Bottom (Ghost) and top left (Agunimon) can be found in my Species Swap post here!
The top right is his Grandracmon variation from Regal Bloodsucker. All three are before he gets his kaiju powers hence the human doodle. I will be drawing full bodies for them and my other Kafka variations.

Links to convos and asks about Ghost Kafka AU
This is mainly for my personal use, which is why the title is small, I'm tagging nothing and nobody, and the appended notes are for me. Is that mean? Should I make one for public use?
For those who do read it anyway, red is stuff I thought about but didn't put in the posts. And the AU belongs to Sonicasura but I stole it for some scenes.
Species Swap: Agunimon, Ghost, MAG
Sonicasura's post about three different AUs, where Kafka becomes an Agunimon by using cursed armor, or a ghost by dying, or a MAG through unethical experimentation by an evil organization. I might want to look at the other ones at some point. for ghost, offers an early glance of his death and his initial looks after eating souls but before the Larva. Overview of how Defense Force reacts to the emergence of Kafka's elusive ghost. Science Department's tryna figure out how to catch him. Kafka made a fake human body and works with the Sweepers for those sweet sweet vermin Yoju souls. Also the Larva makes his body sort of alive again, but he can die forever.
Reblog: I make commentary on all three swaps. Inquire about the temporary human body thing in the ghost section. I make a joke about how Kafka would feel eating a Kaiju that *wants* to be eaten. Express how great it is to feel alive.
Sonicasura's reblog: Responds to my commentary. In the ghost section explains that Kafka made a temporary body using alchemy. He could steal his own body parts for it, especially because the Kaiju that killed him essentially embalmed him. He can repair it with the power from kaiju souls. Tiny (the Larva) was a surprise, probably magic.
Why do I hear the arby's tag in Kafka's voice?
Basically me meming about ghost kafka in the tags of the Species Swap post led to a short conversation. Sonicasura says Kafka's human form looks like he walked off an autopsy table.
Anon suggests Hikari would like to know Ghost Kafka
Sonicasura answers that Hikari and Kafka are long-time friends and Kafka haunts Kikoru as a favor.
Anon Curious of Isao's opinon
Ask sent to sonicasura about Isao's perspective when Kafka begins haunting the household and harassing him. Isao is annoyed, initially thinking it a pest Kaiju, until Kafka threatens him with his own wife's words. Seems to imply that Hikari as a ghost makes threats either at Kafka or where he can hear them, and then Kafka repeats them at Isao later. And also implies that Hikari made similar threats at or near Isao while alive. Hikari can't be seen by the spiritually unaware because she isn't strong enough compared to a well-fed soul-sucking Kafka.
Anon Curious of Kikoru's opinon
Ask sent to sonicasura about Kikoru's perspective when Kafka haunts the household. Kikoru is 9 or 10 (I didn't see this post until after a later post) Response provides outlines for at least two scenes. Investigating stake-out style. Meeting Kafka for the first time. Kikoru inquiring about her mom's spirit. Arranging the meeting between mother and child.
Comforting Shadows
Sonicasura outlines his death via silk-spitting wasp Kaiju, saving the monster sweepers but dying alone in an alley, quickly mummifying. Brief description of Kafka's ghost form immediately after emerging from his cocoon. Third Division finds the wasp Kaiju dead, suspicious circumstances described. DF can't break open the cocoon to identify his body. Kafka now as a Shade-type Onryo experiences horror hunger and requires souls to sustain himself. Ghosts consider darker spirits as dangerous, and even if Kafka only ate kaiju souls, they would run away. Hikari remains a ghost due to family matters, and she takes Kafka under her wing. Depiction of Kafka's ghost form after consuming many kaiju souls. Because of his power, the living can see him. Need for alchemical disguise. Kafka could open the cocoon, therefore DF learns of his body. DF assumes grave robber to be kaiju. Mina grieving and pissed off, assigns her division to handle sniffing it out. Kafka's death not made public and body held as evidence. Kafka returns to MS with coworkers unaware. Usual activities for the next six or so years described. Pranks Isao all the time, destroying his room, hiding his documents. Leaves gifts and does invisible favors for Kikoru, eventually becomes friends. Description of Ghost Kafka's transformation and description of his human form after eating the Larva. List of abilities. Snatcher boss fight inspo.
Thinkin' bout sonicasura's ghost!kafka au
A post I made pondering Hikari's character, Kafka's initial haunting behaviors, Kikoru's age when Kafka went kaput. Ponders the day he eats the Larva, suggesting he spills the beans to Reno by smacking the shit out of the Yoju as a ghost before anything else happens because priorities. Buut this would mean he is not at hospital, Larva would have to meet him at home, not as funny. Ponders Kafka's character and motivations in response to the transformation and the fact he is still dead to the DF.
Sonicasura shares manga panels of Hikari. Tries to explain to me how Onryo are made, but at the time, I didn't quite get it and looked it up after this. Describes Kafka as "chaotic neutral". No to killing, yes to torturing bad guys. Kafka chills out more from looking after Kikoru. Sonicasura says that Kafka *does* go to hospital. Which means DF was called. Kafka doesn't have a pulse so he plans to escape. The timing of things in canon has me think he was meant to stay the night at least. Describes Kafka's transformation from the perspective of Reno. Kafka's body is left in the bed, sort of like in a coma. His organs are operated and repaired by the Larva. If Kafka does choose to join DF, he'll use magic to disguise himself further. If he doesn't, he'll just look out for Reno.
Reblog from me figuring that it would make the most sense for Kafka's meat puppet to get its leg broken for everything else to line up. If he tells Reno to call the DF, he has plenty of reason to keep his ghostliness hidden. I mention Mina's feelings when she sees his face again, knowing he is dead, and figuring that it was someone else who just happened to look like him. Kafka is very troublesome for the nurses, having narrow parameters for his cooperation. Avoiding some plot holes by digging another: why don't the nurses try to sedate him? Oh well, don't care rn.
Sonicasura concurs on Mina. Once Kafka died, she had a permissible reason to have access to his records and learned how Kafka kept trying for the DF for years until he aged out. That hit Mina hard, and seeing a man who looked like Kafka was another punch to the gut. Sonicasura explains that Kafka tries to avoid hospitals because the nurses can figure out Something is Dreadfully Wrong with him, and also ghosts in the hospitals are hostile toward him. Risk they'll harm his companions.
So his body is human that night?
Sonicasura goes over Kafka's alchemical disguise. Learned during the first few months (Now I'm curious how Kafka kept that from the MS since it's some months of absent Kafka. Paperworks?). He needs his own original heart to prevent other ghosts from using his vessel. Body looks sickly pale from lack of vitamins and melatonin (melanin?). Otherwise customizable. Pigs blood transmuted into Kaiju blood slowly after Larva. Can absorb nutrients from food.
If my brain will let me read the manga, I hope I can get a better picture of Mina's character, especially for the ghost!Kafka AU.
Ask sent to Sonicasura about Mina's character and relationship with Kafka, particularly after the reveal. An Imagine by Sonicasura about the very thing.
Ghost Kafka Goes Girl
Ask and small convo about Kafka's ability to change his vessel's form before the Larva locks in his appearance. No particular physical descriptions except that he went out a few times as a woman, but looked different each time. After the Larva, he can just change minor things now like hair, eyes, nail colors. Might look into what GirlVessel!Kafka could look like later for art.
Tryna Squeeze Out That Motive - what is Kafka compelled to do? What is his theme?
This is me overthinking the Onryo thing and sending it as an ask to Sonicasura. For the first time, I bring up the web thing here, as well as a potential propensity to inadvertently harass Mina at some point. Sonicasura goes over his self-loathing as he died. Explains that he has a new side to him as an Onryo full of malice, and Hikari helps him stabilize. So it looks to me like his misbehavior is motivated by an external influence (like how a guy who turns into a monster tends to deal with monster urges) rather than an intrinsic aspect of his character (which I still didn't get the picture of until later). At the time I also misunderstood "confronted with the darker side to humanity" thinking that meant him, but now I know it means bad guys. Might want to think about later, "That malice will soon be tempered fully into a Obsession, the driving point of spirits. One which represents Kafka perfectly: To Protect." On the surface, seems relatively obvious for Kafka's character, but I'm guessing that because it's pointed out, Kafka will eventually control his newfound urges and be able to channel them into more complex priorities than just 'make bad guys hurt. bad!' I wonder if he'll become a slightly different thing again. *hmms like a skeksis*
Inverse-Translation Nicknames
A long-winded explanation of why I do certain things in my Kaiju No. 8 fics and some problems I run up against and my solutions, sent as an ask to Sonicasura to check my understanding and see if she has more ideas. Yes! Overview of characters in relation to honorifics, Kikoru's relationship with Kafka in particular. 'Kuro' is also a nickname option. I looked it up and 'Kuro' in some sense means black, having a positive-leaning connotation of elegance and so on. I did not use it in Kikoru's Spirit Guy because I wanted Kikoru to use a nickname in a more negative sense, but I think she will use 'Kuro' for him later as he earns her trust.
Kikoru's Spirit Guy Part 1
A short story by meeeee! Basically the backstory for part 2, sorta following Sonicasura's outline of the first meeting between Kikoru and Ghost Kafka face-to-face. Trying to get into Kikoru's head about her relationship with her school studies and how she handles getting a B. Risa partly antagonizes and flatters her over it. Children that age grow at different rates and I put Risa on the more childish end. Sebasu struggles to navigate the situation on the way home, wanting to comfort Kikoru but not wanting to overstep on parenting or boundaries. Kikoru's main drama is how she's going to tell her dad about it, and how she feels after getting the answer she expected, feeling like she screwed up big time. Concerned Ghost Kafka Jumpscare.
Kikoru's Spirit Guy Part 2
Kafka's perspective during and after Kikoru's breakdown over a paper test, and Kikoru's perspective after waking up from fainting. Sebasu and Hikari appearing in ways that can characterize them. Kafka wants to make sure Kikoru is okay and doesn't fall behind in school because of him. Kikoru thinks he intends to play deadly mind games. Also I tried to include the motif of Kikoru's connection with her mother by having Kafka use similar language about Hikari that Risa did about Kikoru in part 1. Interestingly, despite him being dead, I have Kafka use future tense.
Regular-ass Hibino Kafka
Doesn't say much. Just something I thought was amusing and might look at later.
Sparklebug
sonicasura explains a headcanon about Kikoru's relationship to her mother, regarding nicknames. it is appended to my joke post about Kafka and Kikoru's initial dynamic.
Ghost Kafka Attacks + Convo
First Portion: A short story rambly thing by me, bouncing off Sonicasura's outlined depiction. Ponders Kafka's character, death and immediate post-death, and a possible first meeting with Hikari. Also ponders rules of the setting. My headcanons about his ghost appearance and how it changes. My headcanons about his abilities and smells (yes, smells. I figure it would be interesting to give him a scent that various characters would have different associations with. Kikoru finding it comforting, Isao finding it enraging/annoying, Mina having mixed feelings about it, Perhaps one character associates it with a sex shop and everyone cringes.)
Second portion: Sonicasura concurs re: Kafka beating the crap out of bad guys without killing them. Corrects Horror Hunger to something akin to addiction, allows possibility of quitting early on. Puts Hikari in the dark on Kafka's early soul sucking status. Alludes to alternate mechanism of identifying the turning point. Suggests Hikari's involvement in rehabilitating other Onryo before Kafka. Establishes rule-of-setting regarding Kafka's sucking prowess vs Kaiju Fortitude.
Third portion: Basically me taking the Onryo thing too literally again and busting my brains trying squeeze a character element maybe-antithetical to Kafka out of him. Failing that, trying to shove him into soul-sucker route ASAP. Tried to justify why most spirits would flee even without knowing his soul-sucker status. But I also tried to justify multiple ways Hikari would learn Kafka ate a kaiju soul, including the claim that ghosts can sense each other's vibes. Asserted that eating even one Human Soul crosses the Moral Event Horizon (implying it locks you into sinister-soul-sucker with no exceptions), but also reiterated that eating a Kaiju Soul isn't that bad (so maybe it does or doesn't lock you in). Tried to take a look at Hikari's perspective, but I didn't have a good grasp on her character and either forgot or didn't know how to suggest a scenario where: she knows he ate a soul and that he is at risk; and he knows he's at risk because she told him the stories; but she doesn't know the risks of kaiju souls in particular, and while keeps an eye on him, she trusts him to make his own decisions; to where Kafka in the end chooses to gather more power for the sake of protecting others, of course. Whether he made it through quarantine successfully before making that choice or was still under the influence of cravings, which is more narratively interesting? If I return to this, it won't be any time soon.
Fourth portion: Sonicasura correctly identifies that I need to chill out, lol! Goes over Kafka's canon character. Clarifies that the Onryo thing is an approximation. (I'm not sure what the next paragraph is saying: "As for his conversation with Hikari about eating a kaiju soul, he just died. The afterlife was just a passing thought or idea that Kafka sometimes hears throughout his life. Hikari basically teaches him a LOT that he needs to know." All those sentences on their surface, I know. But I'm not sure if together it's saying: yes, she does know he ate a soul and taught him about it along with everything else; or no, he was too overwhelmed by all the new stuff to tell her. Either way, I don't have to worry about it because I won't be making stuff directly about it, heh...) Explains how ghosts feel about those who eat souls. Animals have souls. Explains the addiction aspect. Implies that the method of detecting soul-suckers is not vibes.

Cursed Flames
Here it is folks! The Agunimon section to my species swap with Kafka Hibino. Now you don't need to know much about Digimon for this. I'm only using elements of the Fire Warrior Spirit but with a unique spin. Now let's get started.
A 28 year old Kafka Hibino's life is forever changed on a cold winter day. The man and his fellow Monster Sweepers latest task was cleaning up a small kaiju infestation within a hoarder house. Kafka had been assigned to the basement, the heart of the nest, when he finds something odd.
Sitting amongst charred kaiju corpses was a peculiar red armor set. Its draconic visage appears completely untouched despite the carnage around it. Considering the owner of the land didn't care what the Sweepers took, Kafka found himself dared to put it on.
After a while he gave into the pressure and adorned the armor. Everything seem at first until Kafka put on the helmet. A harsh boiling sensation fluttered through his entire body as a voice in an unknown language boom through his head.
The other Monster Sweepers immediately backpedal to find anything to put out the flames that had engulfed an unaware Kafka. Nothing works but luckily the fire disperses on it. However their friend had been completely transformed.
Kafka's black hair faded partially into a long wild gold mane and his teeth were large sharp fangs as the helmet covered his now yellow fur tipped elvenlike ears alongside bear like snout but not the three thick red stripes on both cheeks. More armor had not only manifested to cover his entire pudgy wrestler body but adjusted itself to fit him perfectly. It covered his new brown paw pads, tufts of gold fur that now sprout from his arms/wrists/chest/ankles/back, orange banned dragon horns on the side of his head alongside a red tip diamond shaped horn at the front and a thick red dragon tail.
You can say Kafka was panicking the moment he saw his reflection. He taken off the armor thinking it would undo the 8'9 bear man monster transformation but nothing happened. It was only after a suggestion to meditate did he return human. However the group would learn three things.
Throwing out the armor did nothing as it would appear in Kafka's closet the next morning. And the man would revert back into a beast after 6 hours. Kafka Hibino had unfortunately became the holder to a cursed armor once owned by a forgotten warrior of fire.
Not much could be learned about the item other than a faded legend about the original owner having protected villages from Kaiju during the Heian period. A will to fight that embedded itself into Kafka as a vicious battle lust. He would need to wear the armor frequently and fight to satisfy the curse or risk it worsening.
Thus Kafka's routine for the next few years. He would go out to fight Kaiju in order to satisfy the armor. This has often led to clashes between the Defense Force who originally thought he been a vigilante with unlicensed equipment.
His fellow Monster Sweepers do help Kafka learn to with his curse. Giving him targets to fight, ways to avoid the Defense Force and try to find more information on his cursed armor. Things had been fine for the group mostly even if Kafka couldn't join the DF anymore.
It is until the day a certain small kaiju decided to add onto things. Kafka was already worried about transforming in the hospital since he only had 39 minutes left. Tiny ramming himself down the man's throat and worsening his curse didn't help.
You can say his Kaiju form merged with the armor too than just his body. Helmet now a demonic dragon head bearing monstrous sand shark fangs alongside two different sets of horns(Kaiju/Agunimon), thick black scales overtaken the black jumpsuit underneath the now sharper segmented armor, long white spikey dorsal plates went down from his neck to tail, black hedgehog spines blended with his mane, his fingers became thick draconic claws and his size nearly doubles to a 14'6. (Rip that hospital bed.)
The Defense Force will quickly reclassify their vigilante as Kaiju No. 8 afterwards. Now his kaiju status does change quite a few things than more powerful flames and scales. He can stay human for an extra hour but also use minor pyrokinesis. The armor can still be removed although his face is more closer to a cat's muzzle than humanoid.
Defense Force would later upgrade his status from Dead or Alive to Capture Alive. Kaiju No.8 still not harming humans despite this sudden metamorphosis is the major reason why the order has been altered. The 3rd Division are in charge of him since he almost always fights kaiju within their territory.
Kafka still doesn't join the Defense Force as the age limit became 32. Suspicion is also on the Monster Sweepers since one officer had spot one of Kafka's coworkers running from a battle scene. It became clear that No.8 has help to evade them. And you can bet No.9 makes it worse for the Sweepers after the First Mission incident.
Kafka's life only got more chaotic than just interesting.
That's all I have for now! Before I go, please enjoy this little clip of Agunimon's debut from the Digimon Frontiers anime. You can tell is gonna be a bit wild here after watching it.

Hybrid Skully
I decided to delve into some hybrid ideas with Skully. The species swap Kafkas in question will be MAG, Agunimon and Grandracmon specifically. No Ghost this time but maybe after I do two more Species Swap with our himbo.
Skully will be half kaiju in nature for obviously reasons. Also whether this is related to Single Dad Kafka or not remains unspecified. Now let's get started.
Vampire Prince(GranDracmon)
Skully is the result of a capture attempt by the 3rd Division on Kafka. Due to his now kaiju nature, it's easier for the Defense Force to harm him with their weapons than just be restricted to Light Cannons. A small chunk of his right wing gets cut off by Hoshina and it's only sheer luck that the piece got caught on his tail.
Kafka didn't notice the newest addition until he felt something rummage in his tail fur. You can bet the man wasn't suspecting a cat sized hybrid that looks eeriely similar to him. Think if Skully was a pudgy reptile type centaur, had little bat wings on his upper back, a three pointed star crest horn on his forehead and two dragon heads coming from his lower beast back than thighs. Yugioh's Tyrant Neptune is the best way I can explain his body type.
Skully is especially feisty when it comes to his innate instinct to acquire human blood. The kaiju side of the hybrid would want extra protection from the natural weakness that Grandracmon have than just a human form. Kafka had to teach the whelp about not harming humans(unless in self defense) and only feed on kaiju.
No better way to cause a massive stir amongst the Defense Force than the current King of the Monsters having a child. Especially one who has a tendency to wander around. Reno and Kikoru often end up finding Skully so they are very quick to return him to Kafka in some way.
If the piece hadn't latch onto Kafka's tail then the little one would've been born halfway during transport to the Science Department. Soshiro would retrieved the piece as a chunk of the Vampire King will provide useful info for a future capture mission and habitation cell. No one foresaw the transformation that wing chunk under went inside the container.
Or the newborn to only listen to Soshiro. There were definitely discussions about what to do since they rather not garner the Vampire King's wrath. Soshiro is completely responsible for Skully in this situation as the whelp happens to be quite skittish without his 'Mama' or 'Papa' present.
For those wondering, he did offer the hybrid his blood at some point. Skully gotten sick and had difficulty keeping kaiju blood down so Soshiro offer some of his to see if it could help. (It did.) This is how they discover why the whelp was frantic about feeding on human blood as he no longer wanted the stuff afterwards. A survival tactic to blend in with the population.
Kafka has a habit of popping up to see Skully too. Sometimes it's in private since the whelp is stealthy enough to slip in and off base. Other times Kafka intervenes if a situation looks dire or Skully leads Soshiro to him.
Harmony (MAG)
Skully is created from a chunk of Kafka's arm. How this injury happens depends on the route in question. Due to being part MAG, Skully is bigger than his other iterations as he stands around 3 ft in size. He looks mostly the same but has small horns, dark mahogany carapace/tail, and an extra pair of arms. Luckily Skully retains a gentle nature.
In the Monster Sweepers route, Kafka loses part of his arm during a work accident. They were working on a porcupine kaiju with shootable serrated quills. Someone had triggered a pressure point which resulted in a quill firing and Kafka taking the blow for his coworker.
The torn off chunk end up in a trashcan so no one knew Skully had formed inside. Well until the whelp waddle over to munch on a chunk of kaiju meat. Kafka definitely didn't know how to react at first. Luckily Skully became one of the best and worst things for his aggression.
The good being how fast the whelp calms him but also provides company whenever nobody can visit. Bad side is that Kafka is more eager to tear apart anyone dumb enough to threaten Skully. Animals and sometimes humans have a much better chance at fleeing his wrath than kaiju.
The Defense Force wants to capture Kafka in the general AU as they learn he's an illegal human experiment. His mutation already made them more desperate in their attempts but now caution is seriously advised with Skully around. They HAVE to gently convince him to come to them as any capture attempt could risk a potential massacre.
Skully usually hangs on Kafka's back like a koala whenever he is on the move. Either him or somebody else as the whelp remains surprisingly light despite their size. (Think the weight of an average house cat for comparison.)
In Placation route, Skully is accidentally created during a round of testing. The Science Department needed some samples to understand how much the larval kaiju had alter his biology. Although this time they took a sizeable chunk of flesh than blood for better results.
Okonogi is the person who later discovers a newly formed Skully rummaging in the trash and calls Mina over immediately. (The Science Department were later restricted to blood samples or very dead flesh after this incident.) Skully is always monitored by someone if he isn't with Kafka.
Mina rather not have some ballsy fool try to snatch him as she's already batting the higher ups with a stick. Luckily Kafka is a nice deterrent for the latter since everyone knows how nasty parental kaiju can get. She won't hesitate to join him as Skully got her wrapped around his finger.
Fireworks (Agunimon)
The little hybrid was created from a chunk of Kafka's mane and tail. You can thank a particularly nasty mantis kaiju for the unconventional haircut/tail strim much to our himbo's annoyance. Kafka ends up collecting the mess in a trash bag before the Defense Force showed up.
He's around halfway home when the thing begins to moves on it's own. Kafka absolutely wasn't expecting the little fluffy whelp inside. This Skully's body is covered in a thick layer of poofy golden fur with thin quill like spines poking between the cracks of his mahogany shell and two small striped horns in front of his horn nubs. (He would've looked like a puffball with a pudgy armor plated tail it wasn't for the carapace shell. The fur smooths out evenly with age.)
Kafka is grateful that he fireproofed his house as Skully definitely has pyrokinesis here. The whelp tends to sneeze sparks at best and small flames at worst. Our himbo gotten a little fireproof scarf for Skully to wear so to avoid any accidental fires. He also gave his coworkers a heads up.
Kafka is relieved that the battle lust of his curse didn't pass on. (Although the hopes that any inhuman traits being inherited by potential children is now dashed.) He is cautious about Skully being near the cursed armor as he rather not test his luck any further.
The Defense Force have only become more riled up since the whelp has a tendency to follow Kafka into battle. It made attempts at capture more risky as the 'Fire Lord' isn't any kaiju they want to piss off. They haven't even found his nest yet and rather not have a lost kaiju whelp roaming about.
If Kafka didn't gather up those torn pieces then Skully would've been born in the Science Department. The Defense Force will take any part of the Fire Lord for analysis even if it was a few hairs. Okonogi definitely gotten a scare when she went to check on the latest material only to find a whelp in the container instead.
It took a bit longer to cobble up a fireproof scarf for Skully as no one was prepared for a fire sneezing infant to be on base. Soshiro had to keep his officers from trying to get payback against the whelp. (Little Skully had accidentally set multiple people's hair or clothes on fire via sneezing.)
The whelp acts like a sort of radar when it involves their 'Mama'. Skully will get quite excited if he's nearby and has often waddled away to greet Kafka. The 3rd Division are currently changing tactics when it comes to the Fire Lord in this situation.
A blood sample from Skully had revealed unidentifiable human DNA in the mix. The chance that No.8 is part human or has a human mate changes everything the Defense Force knows. An answer they are most likely to get if their target remains alive.
Well, that's what I think anyway.

Species Swap: Kafka Hibino
I mentioned earlier that species swap are something I haven't really delved with Kafka. (Not including asks for obvious reasons.) Thus here are some ideas that came to mind and will be explored on further in their own potential posts.
Agunimon

Yup, not a Digimon that is in the Angoramon Line or GranDracmon line. (Although Kafka as an eldritch vampire would be an interesting sight.) I figured why not choose a childhood favorite instead.
How Kafka gets into this situation is funnily simple: Cursed Armor. In Digimon Frontier, the Warrior and Beast Spirits resemble armor that need to be collected by the respective chosen. Thus why not twist such a detail to something more...malicious.
Kafka discovers the cursed armor while cleaning the ruins of a hoarder house. A bet from his fellow Sweepers to put the items on is how it happens. Now Kafka doesn't fully look like Agunimon but instead more like a fusion.
Black hair that haphazardly fades to gold, beastlike features such as a bear snout alongside pointy ears hidden under the helmet, his pudgy wrestler body type remains, paw pads, tufts of gold fur, horns, then finally a chubby red dragon tail.
Now Kafka can turn back to human but for at most 6 hours on a good day. Otherwise he's forced to look like a beast. The armor pretty much haunts his wardrobe as it will come back no matter what he does.
If Kafka doesn't wear it from time to time then he runs the risk of his curse condition getting worse. You can bet your ass that his kaiju powers aggravated it even further. Finding body wash for scales is more difficult than fur.
Ghost
Kafka fucking dies! He perishes at the age of 26 after saving someone amidst a kaiju attack. This heroic deed doesn't go unpunished as the man had enough regrets in life(than an obviously violent death) for his spirit to linger.
Now a Shadow type specter, Kafka spends his afterlife trying to protect others and eating kaiju souls. The latter altering his ghostly form into something similar to Snatcher from A Hat In Time. 25 ft long serpentine body with three talon "paw" like hands, fluffy almost velvet fur like texture hide, and a jack-o'-lantern smile that can become sinister in seconds.
The Defense Force classify him as 'The Shadow' from his shadowlike appearance. It isn't uncommon for officers to come across him during missions with many failing to capture or kill the ghost. The Science Department has been trying to uncover scientific ways to do so, not supernatural.
It took some experimentation before he could create a temporary human body to inhabit. (Kafka might've robbed his own grave.) He works at the Monster Sweepers partly cause kaiju corpses often come with "free snacks" in the form of Honju and Yoju. Although a certain mosquito kaiju definitely had a mighty extra kick Kafka wasn't ready to handle.
It somehow made his temporary body "alive" and made his ghostly form more monstrous. Kafka rather not get killed again much less by the Defense Force. A second death can put him down for good.
MAG

Considering how many times Kafka failed the Entrance Exams for the Defense Force, what are the chances someone would take advantage of this? Such as his fate in this specific route where a mysterious man's innocent offer holds insidious motives. Kafka finds himself kidnapped and experimented on using kaiju DNA.
He becomes a MAG through these unethical experiments. A type of huge supersoldier known for their heightened aggression, unmistaking power but also programmed to take orders from handlers(like Madness Combat). Luckily Kafka manages to escape before he could be programmed into an 'attack dog'.
His MAG form stands around 15'6 with dark grey scales covering his sides/arms/legs/facial cheeks, long stretched mouth full of sharp jagged teeth like his kaiju form, long claws, pale red spikes on back/shoulders, raptor like feet, long black scaly tail, slitted red eyes and white piercing horns. Kafka's fate is split between two possible routes.
One route is being found by the Monster Sweepers who look after their mutated coworker. The other leads to Mina whose investigating the massacre of the very shadow organization that turned Kafka into a monster and linked various disappearances involving flunked examinees. It isn't hard to recognize her old friend despite his monstrous new form.
A certain small Kaiju might make things more chaotic in the process. Kaiju No.8 gonna look scarier and more aggressive than just bigger that's for sure. Although it might help Kafka compress his MAG form better with something to help stabilize it. Wouldn't make him human again but at least he can walk in building without needing to duck as much.
What do you guys think? For those curious, this is Angoramon and GranDracmon.

Basically a size chart type list for my AU iterations of Kafka Hibino and my personal nicknames for each. These only involve ones who don't have lost their human form but also don't have the canon kaiju form as their main like Skyscraper Softie. You can blame the Godzilla asks about our favorite himbo getting stranded in the Monsterverse.
