A post about
Tumblr media
There was a point where Carlos by the times standards was an ok husband. In the beginning Carlos was attempting to do nice things she liked, but always With an air of dismissiveness. Taking her to the circus because she likes it, but then mocking her for liking the clowns, for example.
Carlos isn’t a monster in my mind, but just a consistently selfish and entitled person. With toxic masculinity bruising his ego about Elena being the breadwinner and him being the possible vector of infertility. But he was an orphan as well and he didn’t have the example of loving parents to guide him like she did. Their shared history of being an orphan without family, made them both desperate of fixing that with a big loving home they made. Disappointment and anger soured his love.
Carlos last name is Hernandez. But Elena was more famous, so that is why her name consistently was Elena Ruiz. Elena Rosa Hernandez Ruiz. It’s why Agustin and Felix go by Madrigal, the famous family rule.
So I imagine that’s an extra twist of the knife for Carlos. But he never took her last name in the proper order.

Agustin Hernandez, the last great Mexican modern architect, dies at 98
Agustin Hernandez, the last great Mexican modern architect, dies at 98
Until just three years ago, Agustin Hernandez continued to leave his house every day to work. In the morning I would arrive at his studio in the shape of a spaceship designed by himself in 1975. I would open the golden gates, like Star Trek. He climbed a spiral staircase with triangular steps and no railing to the first floor and started the day. He could spend hours and even entire days alone in…

abandoned Centro de Meditación in Santa María Ahuacatitlán, Mexico in summer 2015. Designed and developed by Agustín Hernández (b. 1924) in 1986 as a center for meditation, the utopian building represents a rich interface of pre-Columbian symbology and futuristic elements of the postmodern. Located on a site chosen by the architect for its energetic interaction with key locations in the region such as Tepoztlán, Cholula, and Malinalco, the iconic building’s derelict state lends it an anthropological quality, fostering local myths, and allowing surreal and esoteric narratives to emerge. Filmed on location in Santa María Ahuacatitlán, Tetela tells the story of two young boys who stumble upon the Centro's ruins and unusual situation crafted there by García Torres. Throughout the film, the context and the site itself create a space for reflection – a museum of sorts where human gestures and nature’s intervention blur their own realities. Thoughts of a failed utopia shape a subtle illusionary fusion of the past and what is still to come.
