The things about Sodapop is that he's just a sixteen year old boy who lost his parents and had to become the glue that holds his family together. Ponyboy is hurting, he's different from the other Greasers, is more sensitive and innocent, he isn't suited for the Greasers lifestyle. Darry's also hurting, he's had to sever all ties to a life he could've had, a better life, to take care of his brothers, to work long hours, to have all the burdens on his shoulders. And they both don't get along, don't understand each other. And Sodapop does and they find respite in him, someone who listens and validates their problems and can console them.

He's basically both of their emotional crutch. And while Darry and Ponyboy adore him, know they wouldn't be able to get along without him, even they don't realize the extent of how much they depend on him. He makes it so that he's overlooked, acting so happy and carefree, but maybe some of it is just a front, to try to be emotionally strong for both of them and so they don't realize he has his own feelings and problems, maybe even trying to get himself to forget them because he wouldn't be able to support his brothers if he was caught up in himself.

He talks about having tried at school but having never been able to succeed at it. He probably has his own insecurities about not being clever enough for school and being less exceptional than both his brothers (Dally was a football captain, good at school and popular while Ponyboy's very smart and intelligent and stands out among the crowd). He thinks of himself as destined to live and die a Greaser and never wants nor thinks more than that for himself.

Has anyone noticed that Apollo and Meg kind of occupy the same space in their messed up family dynamics.

Apollo is obviously the golden child, his father's favoured son with whatever burdens come with that. But meg is also the golden child. We can see Nero puts her above the rest and gives her more freedom compared to her siblings. And idk why but that is so interesting to me and so sad. Cause they've got the resentment of their siblings for being perfect but none of the protection and safety they think might come with it. It's so delicious ahshjsjsj.

I've seen tonnes of people talk about how Apollo is no longer the golden child and is now the scapegoat of the family for crimes against Zeus or whatever but I lovee the idea that he's still his favourite son. It adds such a layer of drama to everything. It also makes you wonder how badly the rest are being treated if this is how Zeus treats his most favoured son. Rip Ares.

Ok went kind of off topic but what I mean is it's so cool that meg and Apollo have been pretty much set up since the beginning to be so similar. Wish that they could have talked about it helped each other work through it but I guess that's what fics are for.

when you go to a bookstore to find a book (obviously) and you’re 99% sure the people working there are fruity and then you’re looking in the lgbtq+ section and then the pretty girl working there helps you find you’re books and is super friendly and even though it’s her job you’re like AHSHJSJSJS ATTENTION FROM A WOMAN and didn’t want to leave but you had to and I want to work there now
