I think possibly this website is a bit in a bubble on the AI topic... It was interesting to learn that a friend of mine is genuinely concerned about jobs becoming obsolete in IT but also production because of AI and that robots are now able to do very detailed, softhand work like pick tomatoes. There is going to be a bit of a crunch - that is to say, generating code does weed out the banging out basic shit people. Except it still needs to be read and adjusted and tested extensively. So they're never getting rid of most coding specialists. So I think he's also in a bit of a bubble (he called it the reinvention of the wheel...) My prediction is that the investment bubble is going to partly collapse because most startups and companies can't sell AI or sell useful AI. But I do think some big tech companies offers' are going to replace (very) low-level graphic work, writing work and coding. And yes, make it available to more people who otherwise would never have paid for it. It'll make live transcription and translation even more feasible. I think robotic applications are going to be developed, which might replace people in factories and agriculture. Only if they manage to continue to offer low prices however. (And then predatorily lock in the market). If the development of detailed factory robotics continues then we will see a further accumulation of the means of production into fewer hands - and that would be bad. Jobs in factories and warehouses would be eliminated except technical supervision, and that increased efficiency is not going to create wealth that'll pass to most of the population. I'm not sure if the field is developed enough however... And investors are getting impatient. Maybe softhand applications like picking fruit and vegetables, but sewing remains unlikely in my opinion. I think neural network 'AI' will continue to be developed by those who have capital to burn, but its unpredictability and inconsistency is a hurdle. And of course it won't do shit if the climate crisis wipes out our civilisation.

I'm afraid that at one point it'll just become too realistically looking for the untrained eye. And if regular people don't care at all, it'll stay. Like the gimmicky Top 10 TikTok songs - if most users (I don't even want to call them listeners) treat music as background noise who is going to listen to the person who wants art, not the same product? The same consumers won't care about AI album covers and band logos, I can assure you. And if it stays, metal bands will use it as well. Even power metal is too big of a genre to not be affected.
I just don't understand, how do you as a random person come to that point. How can you go through at least your teenage years without ever falling in love with anyone's music? (And/or some form of art as a whole, but here we're talking specifically about that.) Without having something that makes you want to know more about art as a whole? I don't think you need more to start appreciating music to the point that you think it deserves carefully and thoughtfully created packaging as well, like you said. ESPECIALLY IN METAL, where it's even more common to develop an emotional connection to the music. Weren't fans eating up covers with just the band photos here and in rock music? If you don't want to bother with album covers that much, this is still a better alternative than AI!
Note: I don't understand how the tech bros' minds work so that they defend AI art. Hell, even in my family of computer specialists of all sorts it's just common sense that art is to be appreciated like any other hard work done by a human being (which by definition is essential to art). Even if you can't wrap your head around how it's made because you think in a different, more algorithmic way, you never call it useless. Yes, we found it interesting to see what ChatGPT can do, but even when my dad used it as a joke to create an ode about potatoes, he never thought that result was art. We were extremely disappointed cause it wasn't even dumb in the way you find it funny, just stupid. Which is not surprising, it's a machine after all.
I mean, come on, machines were supposed to do the mundane tasks so people would dedicate themselves to art, sports and other abstract things! Why try to replace the abstract and thrilling with an algorithm?! Even in the industry - there are enough people who find joy in creating art even for promotional purposes!
Getting increasingly pissed off at metal bands using AI for their videos. There was the absolutely nightmarish Within Temptation video - not only was it AI it looked like an acid trip - and now Sabaton used AI images for their Metalizer Visuals. I spoke to a friend who showed me Feuerschwanz merch that looks extremely dubious, and that's only the handful of bands I've heard about recently.
I'm not even talking about the fact it's stealing and they should know better as artists. It's lazy and embarrassing. Especially in metal, where authenticity is central, and I do not use this word lightly, this is just fucking cringe. It's on the level of a singer autotuning the entire song. I will respect a young band who makes shitty music videos infinitely more than a successful one who exploits other artists because of laziness and greed. This is literally no better than when we were 13 and people were making Nightcore videos with uncredited fanart of whatever they were obsessed with, except now they're literally scamming people out of their livelihoods.
Speaking of.
Unleash the Archers did a video trained with consent on the art of a single artist - which is ethically fine and I hope they got paid well. It's still a development in a direction especially the metal scene should be wary of.
Anyway I think we shouldn't just shame people for doing this, we should make fun of them for being losers, because that's what they are. Cheers.
