Alaka'i Technologies will be showcased in the official History of Parliament Trust commemorative publication, "300 Years of Leadership and Innovation."
Alaka'i Technologies, the world's first hydrogen-powered air mobility vehicle creator, will be showcased in the official History of Parliament Trust commemorative publication, "300 Years of Leadership and Innovation," which will be initiated at Westminster Abbey on September 22, 2021. The Board of Trustees, which included representatives of both Houses of Parliament and eminent scholars, nominated and chose Alaka'i. The company received the award for its innovative Skai eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) vehicle, establishing a new benchmark for zero-emission air transport.
Skai is set to be the world's safest, cleanest, and most versatile air mobility solution, with a sleek design and premium passenger experience, a fundamentally simple fault-tolerant system with redundant levels of safety and dependability, airframe-parachute, and hydrogen as its fuel source. Skai's use of clean, zero-emission hydrogen fuel cells as a power source is a significant element of its advancement and why the organization was chosen for this honor.
Lithium-ion batteries are used in most of the upcoming electric air mobility vehicles. Batteries are heavier and have a lower energy density compared to hydrogen fuel cells, leading to shorter vehicle flying times and range. Skai's fuel cells have a much longer lifecycle and allow the vehicle to cruise at speeds of up to 100 mph (160 km/h), with a range of up to 400 miles (645 kilometers) based on payload.
"The design realizes our core vision of transforming transportation and providing safe, affordable travel for all," said Brian Morrison, inventor, Co-founder and Director of Alaka'i Technologies. "Skai offers practical, real-world solutions to everything from relieving traffic congestion to delivering cargo or supplies during natural disasters and transporting patients to hospitals. Our goal is the democratization of flight, to make flight as natural a part of the human experience as riding or taking a taxi."
Skai was co-designed by Designworks, the design innovation studio of the BMW Group, to leverage its creative expertise to help shape a world-class vehicle focused on the customer experience. "It is an honor to be part of this recognition and celebration of innovation," said Holger Hampf, President of Designworks. "Our mission is to continuously revolutionize mobility systems including improved means of protecting the environment and the world we live in."

Massachusetts startup Alaka’i unveiled a model of full-fledged flying vehicle to be powered by hydrogen fuel cells. The new flying vehicle is called Skai and developed with the help of BMW. The Skai is about the size of a minivan, five-seat SUV with landing skids and an array of six horizontal rotors attached at the end of arms protruding from the roof of the craft. Six rotors enable vertical take-off and landing, enabling the vehicle to essentially fly like a massive drone. For safety, it will be equipped with an “Airframe Parachute” which will ensure that the Skai doesn’t simply drop out of the air in the case of a propeller failure. . .
