Thia is an Ala Mhigan refugee who grew up in Stonesthrow outside the walls of Ul'Dah. A laconic and dissociative but frighteningly gifted mage, she became a wandering adventurer and tried to spark some good in the world after her father was murdered by Brass Blades. A visit to the First introduced her to many new truths, including an aching vision of the gregarious diplomat and peacemaker version of herself in a world unsundered.

like aletheia who was the gourdteenth’s complicated best friend. i think ive mostly talked about her on twitter but she willingly went into the zodiark soup as in direct impassioned defiance to the gourdteenth actually fighting and almost forcing her to not. it’s their final conversation up until the remainder of their souls speak in the present day when gourd kills zodiark and releases his bound souls. this issss what drives the gourdteenth totally nuts and to leave the convocation and all of amaurot to burn essentially because that encounter was magnified by the thing of the gourdteenth being one of the strongest and most magically gifted people in amaurot and aletheia being near mortal-levels of magical inability (hi erich) and I leave it vague but it’s possible that the gourdteenth pretty much hijacked her magic at their coinciding birth and then almost killed her for it because they mistook her for a beast while she was struggling to maintain a form being born.

the rift between them was something that had always existed because of the nature of their amaurotine lives and whether or not they could (or wanted to) fulfill what they believed was their innate and shared purpose, but the summoning of zodiark tore that badly scabbing wound open and apart beyond repair. i really always wanted to explore what it meant to desperately wish to trade your life for another and if it really was a noble thing that spoke of selflessness and altruism or if it was something driven by self-hatred and grief and disappointment over your being and the belief that you would only be of use to anybody or anything in your death. that the best outcome could be gained by your removal through her and also what it meant to be on the other side of that and to inflict that pain on someone by simply being something you were made into and made to represent beyond your choice. i guess i sort of left it in the dust out of laziness for one but also maybe i thought it was too heavyhanded and painted amaurot in a worse light than what I intend because of how much of a shit downer story it is and im the amaurot hater guy but it genuinely makes me glad to see other people were thinking along these lines

it wasn’t all doom and gloom for the gourdteenth there were moments where they were genuinely happy. they used to (with some errr loophole help from hythlo mr head of the dmv) put on impromptu parades through the streets of amaurot of really fantastic illusory magic usually full of beautiful things aletheia designed and they conjured and they’d just run through the streets like madmen laughing with their huge brilliant menagerie like an incoming tide behind them before city admins were like What the hell going on. this was before they were azem & they got a lot of Why are you wasting your time doing this silly distracting stuff when you could be the 14th seat but those moments were the happiest they’d ever been

. careening into oc talk the gourdteenth was maybe one of the strongest people in amaurot & ultimately felt a sense of relief and exhilaration upon its destruction (not really justified, just a selfish personal feeling). like they felt freed. while aletheia was the weakest and desperately tried to save it despite never having the power to do so beyond sacrificing her body and soul as coals for the furnace. and ending up with the shitty belief that this suicide gave her life meaning or maybe was the only way her life would ever have meaning. also both totally exacerbated the other's issues just by being friends but also their friendship was to each other one of the few things that felt real

aletheia (oc) > dearest friend but complicated shit due to. everything. innate extreme power difference extreme difference of ideals and ultimately different view of each other

venat > venat had some vaguely defined strong feelings for them and wanted to "free" them or give them a place to belong or w/e even though she didn't fully understand them

hythlodaeus > drinking buddy and good terms closer friend. probably their sole confidant

elidibus > sort of an absent mentor figure towards. cares about but is too like apathetic overall to really actually look out for him

hades > hades thinks they should be "doing more with their talents for the sake of amaurot". basically annoying coworker who has a onesided rivalry with them

the rest of the convocation > idgaf lol

they're otherwise generally friendly and well liked if not elusive with the amaurot folks who were just chilling
