thinking a lot about traumatised veteran Gwash and autistic child Alex. how they share a lot of triggers like loud noises, crowded rooms, having their personal space invaded.
how much it bothers him that people accept his "excuse" for being off, cagey, or losing his temper without a second thought, even thank him for his service sometimes-
but when his little five year old son has a meltdown because the music in the store is too loud and the lights are so bright and a stranger just tried talking to him when he was already visibly upset, he's a "spoiled brat".
George ignores the dirty looks and the occasional needless comment on his parenting and just works to calm the poor thing down, but god. what is it about this double standard? how come his disability is so much more palatable than his son's? how is it fair to judge a child for something entirely out of his control?
