What's Lance's parents' reaction to him dating Nando? Do they eventually find out?

That will actually be a whole thing to be covered in the fic. But from a broader perspective, Lawrence has spent thousands upon thousands for Lance’s education. Yeah, it could have been worse, Lance could have gone to an Ivy League school, he could be wracking up a tuition in the hundred thousand range. So maybe Lawrence isn’t spending as much as a he could have, but he still isn’t okay with spending the amount he is only to watch Lance squander it all and skip class or hook up with a man twice his age.

Lance maybe will be needing a wake up call in this fic. Perhaps. This is roughly where they’re at at the beginning of the fic, communication wise:

It’s a bit tense, a bit distant. Lance knows his dad is a little disappointed in him, so he’s intentionally maybe building distance. Lawrence is just trying to be there for him still - despite everything, Lance is still his kid ofc.

From his mom, it’s definitely not accepted either. They both don’t agree with it, especially because Fernando will not be meeting them in the best light at first.

But no, umm, like a lot? He plans something special for Lance’s birthday (both in his junior and senior year) that costs a decent chunk. He takes Lance on trips, usually ones he’s already had planned and he brings Lance along. There’s dinners and parties and of course the alcohol Lance needs for the ragers he’s throwing for his fraternity. Plus Fernando gets into the habit of buying Lance any sort of clothes/jewelry that catch his eye (which starts because he’s maybe a little tired of seeing Lance in sweats and t-shirts all the time) and that adds up.

Fernando doesn’t pay for anything school wise though, that’s all covered by Lance’s dad. And Lance spends a decent amount on Fernando too. He’s got a credit card in his own name that Lawrence pays the balance on, so he has to be careful with what he charges on there, but he likes buying stuff for Fernando just as much as Fernando likes spoiling him.

Altogether it’s definitely in the hundred thousand range, not including the thousands he spends donating to fundraising events that Lance’s frat host.

Like, eventually yes, but also it’s so far down the line tbh. I just like working seven hundred steps ahead. But yes, their plot line is outlined and happening.

And yeah, David’s 100% just the little bro he’s forcefully bringing to the function. They’re fighting for control of the aux chord and have so many inside jokes that Esteban’s sitting in the backseat of that car feeling increasingly confused.

Anyway, I like to think of the Alex/Pato dynamic in alib as something like this:

He’s from California (parents still live there, but he stayed in Florida after graduating because his internship turned into a full time job). He was a member of the same frat as Pato when he was still in school, actually held the treasurer position because he’s always just been weirdly good with numbers.

Known as “the cool guy” in that he comes off outwardly very calm, due to his introvert nature. At parties he’s typically the guy standing in the corner with a beer, unless he’s comfortable with you, then it’s a different story.

Raised Christian, says he’s agnostic now, but still has a Christian worldview that meant it took him a while to be okay with his sexuality. Hence, he’s in the unique position of understanding Pato and his struggle with his own sexuality.

Also like Pato, he’s a car guy. He own a McLaren, simple black because he doesn’t want the attention, just wants a car that can go fast. He and Pato go to a lot of car shows, which Pato is very excited about because he knows most of his friends didn’t really care for them. And Alex is excited about being able to go with Pato because he hasn’t really had friends/a partner at all to do stuff with since he graduated.

Lowkey, he got depression. Since he went straight into his career after graduating, and has been working as an accountant for 9 years by the time Pato meets him, he’s feeling very stuck where he’s at. He goes on vacations to get a break from work and he tries to talk to people, but since he usually comes off as brusque or rude he’s kind of a loner (once again, super introverted, just doesn’t easily trust either).

He and Pato start out as just friends, they don’t actually kiss or anything until spring of Pato’s senior year. But Pato spends the night at his place a lot, because of certain plot things happening by his senior year, and the guest room basically just becomes his. Nala, Alex’s dog that he adopted as a puppy, sleeps in the room with most nights and Norbi, Pato’s dog, actually ends up with Alex.

Alex is just a chill guy who’s maybe a little sad, but it’s okay because he has his dog and a cool car.

alexs follower to following ratio is killing me omll, truly the guy that everybody think of as a friend, when in reality he only considers a few people to be his friends, also hoping pato can bring a little bit of sunshine to his life!

He mainly gained the followers during college, just from fraternity stuff, and then no one really unfollowed him because he posts so infrequently they kind of just don’t realize he still exists (a little sad, but whatever). People from work also follow him, like the group of people he sometimes grabs a beer with do, but he only follows like two of them back.

And yes! They’re gonna bring light to each other’s lives 🥰. Pato physically tho, since he’s probably pulling Alex out of bed early to go on morning runs and making him actually see the sunrise.

He is! He’s going to work in the accounting department for the medical device company Pato is interning at (the company is big into sports medicine, Pato is majoring in exercise science because he wants to work with recovering athletes.)

He 100% walks around looking like 😐😑 24/7 and Pato is like the first person who gets him to smile at the office. All of Alex’s coworkers are like “didn’t even know he could smile” - which, ofc he does, just not when he’s in the office that is slowly sucking the life out of him.

are the 3 roommates or no ?

No they’re not. Lance and Pato live in University Village, which is the newest off campus housing.

Technically they don’t offer 1 bed/1 bath apartments, but this is fictional fgcu and Lance is the world’s most specialist princess so he’s getting his own apartment. He hardly stays at it once he’s with Fernando though, spends the night at Fernando’s place most the time.

Pato lives in a 2 bed/2 bath a few buildings down from Lance with a guy from his frat. Having Lance nearby, they hang out pretty frequently, also makes the hookups easier, and when Pato is having a particularly bad day he knows he can always call Lance and have a safe place to go.

Esteban still lives on campus in the upperclassman housing. It’s called north lake village and sits on the lake (Fernando’s place is on the other side of the lake where the multimillion mansion community is).

But Lance visits him pretty frequently too because north lake sometimes has decent parties, before university police busts them. Esteban lives with three other guys in his apartment, two guys from his major and one random, but it’s an apartment style dorm so they all have their own rooms.

Lance and Esteban used to be roommates their freshman year. They lived in South Village (sovi) - the freshman housing - because students are required to live on campus their first year and Lance’s dad wanted him to have a somewhat normal experience.

They lived in Everglades in a 2-bedroom, which is how they met and became friends.

Lance hated having a roommate though, as much as he liked Esteban. So he moved to University Village asap, had that lease signed and ready to go for sophomore year. He keeps it on a rolling basis too, that way he doesn’t have to move in and out once he gets back to school each fall.

He just gives finance bro vibes, looks like he should be walking around in a button up with cuffed sleeves or a full suit, no in between. He’s super strait laced in the office, maybe throws back a few beers with his coworkers occasionally, but doesn’t really like any of them enough to be himself so everyone thinks he’s this boring dude.

No one knows his frat bro past, that he was part of the group of kids that put soap in the fountain on campus his senior year and caused the lawn to fill with soap suds (broke the pump in the process). He hears Pato joking about recreating the prank in the breakroom at one point and is like “you should use this brand, it’ll make more of a mess,” and then just walks away. So Pato’s like 👁️👄👁️.

He’s just kind of always There. Like a lurking cryptid around the office, silently gathering intel and gossip and then immediately taking it all home and telling his friend(s) (it’s actually just his dog, but let him pretend).

I love him so much too, you have no idea. Lanky weirdo with his dog and his car and the only person (next to Lance) with the ability to actually calm Pato down when he’s panicking.

Fernando likes seeing himself every time Lance gets a notification while they’re at dinner or driving around, makes him feel wanted (because with Lance actions always speak louder than words). Lance pretends to hate that Fernando is using a photo of him, but he’s a bad liar so they both know he’s only faking it.

Pato is pissed (but he doesn’t care, bro, he swears he doesn’t) because Lance used to have a photo of him as his Lockscreen.

Question about A Braking Lesson:

Does Lance keep fucking Pato after meeting Nando? Like does he straight away stop hooking up with Pato or do they continue until maybe Fernando gets jealous?

He definitely doesn’t stop straight away, especially because Fernando and him are really just hooking up in the beginning. It’s really just sex for them right now, on both sides, and no discussions of exclusivity until down the line. So yeah, Lance is still hooking up with Pato. Which, Pato knows about Fernando and vice versa, so no reason for jealousy really. In the beginning anyway…

On Lance’s end he’s definitely not there yet. He is still fighting graduation, self-sabotaging a little bit tbh because he just isn’t really ready for that next stage of his life (for many reasons that will come up in the fic).

Fernando’s been married, divorced, isn’t really thinking about marriage either. What he has with Lance is easy, and he likes the simplicity of it. Lance likes being taken care of, Fernando is more than willing to do it. The sex is good and Lance doesn’t demand more than Fernando is willing to provide.

If it is something they consider it won’t be until they’re both willing to even broach the topic. But currently, no. Marriage is not in the cards.

Pato isn’t out fully, really only to Lance and Esteban, because he’s not entirely comfortable in his sexuality. Lance isn’t in a relationship (yet) so booking up with Pato is just easier. They mainly hook up in Pato’s car after frat parties.

Maybe! Idk tbh, the story is plotted out but not to exact details like that - especially when David is concerned. But! I do have thoughts about them:

I do think their dynamic would be very much that of exasperated father and hyperactive son. Pato ends up becoming David’s big (Greek life does a whole big sibling/little sibling type thing where the big becomes a mentor essentially). So David would probably still be a pretty big part of Pato’s life when he and Alex do get together.

Probably there are dinners at Alex’s place where the dogs are all under the table waiting for someone to drop their food. Alex has told him to stop so many times, but David secretly feeds them (Pato too, he’s just better at being discreet).

When they all do big beach outings, David is usually the one to suggest burying someone in the sand - he’s always the one getting buried. Alex is always the first one to start piling on the sand.

He pretends to be annoyed at David, but David also knows it’s mainly a front. He asked Alex once for help because his car broke down on the interstate, and Alex immediately left work to pick him up (Pato was taking a final, so David couldn’t call him like he normally would). He also got a coworkers trailer/truck and towed David’s car back to his place so he could look at it and see if it was a problem he could fix - David was tight on cash at the time so the mechanic was kind of out of the question.

When David graduates Pato and Alex take him to a nice dinner to celebrate. Alex pays, complains about bill David’s wracked up, but also he’s talking about how proud he is of David at the same time, so David knows he’s kidding.

Yeah, many thoughts about them, but if they do interact in the fic it’ll probably just be a quick thing. Just know all this is going on in the background 😅.

what is lance's favorite course

School course: the humanities course he took with Esteban fall of his sophomore year. It was an elective course and realistically the only one they’ll ever be able to take together. He actually managed to get most his assignments in on time that semester, and they did a group project together where Esteban made him pull his weight so he actually learned something.

He also just really liked getting to hang out with Esteban and actually be able to talk to him about a course they could both understand.

Golf course: the Miromar Lakes Country Club because it’s close to school and it’s where Fernando’s house is.
