Happy Asian and Pacific Islander Month to our queens!

Here in the US, May is Asian-American and Pacific Islander month. So just like last year, I'll be highlighting the Asian and Pacific Islander queens of Six. This year is especially fun as there's currently an Asian or Pacific Islander queen in every currently-running replica production of Six!

HOLY CRAP THE NEW BOLEYN (Aragon 💀) TOUR QUEENS.

Man I know Cassie was feeling smug as hell knowing that she’d be back after her “last show” yesterday. 😭

Super excited about these new queens and I hope I’ll get to see them!!

So I got to see Six this past weekend on tour in the US (third time seeing it, first time with an all principal cast, my last two were with the Aragon tour with, ironically, Cassie Silva as Boleyn) and holy crap it was amazing! Literally all 6 of them killed it, and it was so exciting to see so many performers either promoted from alt/rehearsal swing to principal or from cruise to dry land! Kristina, Cassie, Kelly, Danielle, Alize, and Adriana ALL ABSOLUTELY killed it! Get your tickets if it’s near you while you can before they go (I know the largely predicted end date is during the gap that begins in July, but I absolutely wouldn’t mind if any of them stayed!!)

Also it was BCEFA donation season, so as I was exiting the theatre I saw Taylor Sage Evans holding one of the red buckets, and as I dropped in a $20 bill I made sure to congratulate her on her Parr debut the evening prior, and I think she was kinda surprised I recognized her and the fact she debuted lol

Also, embarrassingly, I’m a bad downtown driver, and I didn’t realize the road next to the theatre had a stop light between the two roads perpendicular to the theatre, and almost ran it. As I started pulling forward I realized there was someone crossing the street, looked up, stare the stoplight, and hit my brakes. I looked again at the person and saw a Six beanie and green eyeshadow. I almost hit Cassie Silva with my car (going like 10mph but also the day after she had her mic injury… I shouldn’t be allowed to operate a vehicle, clearly)

Quand on approche La Laguna, les signes extérieurs de la "grande ville" se réunissent : grands panneaux publicitaires, étendues de béton avec bâtiments administratifs, et gare routière à l'extérieur de la ville, avec des panneaux d'interdiction ("ne pas marcher là", etc) Je change de bus pour prendre le 275.

Plus l'on monte vers le massif d'Anaga, plus je sens une différence de l'air. Bien plus pur.

Anaga. Ce nom se murmure partout avec émerveillement. J'attendais avec impatience le moment de découvrir cette partie de l'île, et aujourd'hui n'est que le début.

Ce massif s'est formé suite à l'érosion naturelle du territoire volcanique à partir de l’ère tertiaire, sous l'action du climat et des alizés venus du nord-est. Cette végétation particulière, la forêt laurisylve, est restée intacte grâce au climat humide et tropical, et n’existe désormais que sur les îles de Ténérife, La Gomera et Madère. Il y a environ 60 millions d'années, l'Europe était entièrement couverte de ce type de végétation.

Je commence aujourd’hui avec les sentiers balisés à travers la laurisylve, sentiers partant du Mirador Cruz del Carmen et appelés “sentiers des sens”. Ces chemins étaient empruntés il y a des siècles pour faire la liaison entre Anaga et la ville de San Cristobal de la Laguna. Il est important de suivre les panneaux car il est très facile de se perdre dans cette forêt magique.

Il y a des touristes, bien sûr, mais je me retrouve tout de même quelques minutes seule sous les arbres, le temps de me demander si ce climat tropical est le plus adapté à l’homme, ou bien si nous nous adaptons de toute manière aux changements naturels.

Le soir, j'ai décidé de célébrer le départ de J sur la terrasse avec un peu de vin mousseux. Nous nous retrouvons donc avec J, O, Victoria et son fiancé, Isabella et son ex - un ancien boxeur et cocaïnomane, qui porte les traces physiques et psychiques de cette vie extrême, mais fort gentil au demeurant.

Isabella me dit "c'est la meilleure soirée de mon séjour à Ténérife". "J'ai su dès le début que tu es au fond une grande sentimentale", lui dit J.

Le passage à Horta, dans l’île de Faial aux Açores, est un must absolu pour les voileux, pour ceux qui font le tour de l’Atlantique, depuis les alizés sous les tropiques, à l’aller, jusqu’au retour au printemps dans cette partie nord de l’océan. Tous les bateaux s’y retrouvent, c’est la Mecque de la voile hauturière en mai-juin, comme les Canaries et les Îles du Cap Vert en novembre-décembre chaque année. Une espèce de cap Horn soft, un passage obligé de la voile au large, et une fête permanente pendant deux mois. Le port de Horta est plein à craquer, les bateaux à couple alignés sur trois, quatre, cinq rangées, pour que tout le monde trouve sa place, avec un personnel accueillant, jeune et sympathique à la capitainerie. Une fête internationale, avec des gens de tous les pays, de l’Australie à l’Amérique, et surtout l’Europe, beaucoup de Français, d’Allemands, de Hollandais, d’Espagnols, de Britanniques, d’Italiens, de Scandinaves, de Suisses, de Polonais, etc.

Thula Thula, deuxième à partir de la droite, le 9 juin, trois jours après l’arrivée à Horta

Dans le guide des Atlantic Islands, excellent, on signale que les autorités demandent un “Certificado de competencia marinera”, c’est-à-dire un permis-bateau*, ou l’équivalent de n’importe quel autre pays. En fait rien de tel, les services locaux ont abandonné cette exigence, avec l’idée sans doute que si vous êtes arrivé là, aux deux tiers de l’océan, c’est certainement que vous aviez les compétences requises. Ce n’est pas le port de Hyères ou de La Baule, c’est autre chose…

On a aussi le sentiment d’une enclave protégée des troubles de la planète, c’est un peu l’Europe des années 1950 qui se retrouve là en vase clos, comme sortie du temps. Une parenthèse bénie, avant de prendre à nouveau le large pour retrouver le monde réel, le monde d’aujourd’hui et ses problèmes. Pour faire un jeu de mots rapide, une Mecque de la voile, mais pas du voile…

Arrivée à Faial. Seize jours plus tôt, le 21 mai, départ des Bermudes avec Adventure of Stockholm, Elin, Adam et Rufus, perdu de vue après 24h. Sur une pareille distance, avec des bateaux différents, il est impossible de naviguer de conserve.

Le prince Henri, Henri le navigateur, est à l’honneur à Horta, avec sa devise française, “Talent de bien faire” inscrite sur la place centrale. Il reste un mythe mondial, même si son rôle dans les grandes découvertes est contesté par certains historiens. On ne sait pas très bien qui a découvert les Açores, mais deux choses semblent assurées, c’est que ces îles luxuriantes n’ont connu aucune présence humaine jusqu’au XVe siècle, et que leur découverte date bien du début de cette période, par des navires portugais, quand Henri lançait ses flottilles depuis l’Algarve.

Adventure of Stockholm fait son entrée dans le port, plus lourd (un Trintella 45 de 18 tonnes, contre seulement 8 pour le Nordship), il avance moins vite dans le petit temps et a mis deux jours de plus. Elin Bergman nous fait visiter son bateau à Stockholm, très sûr et confortable, il date de 1983, mais il paraît neuf. A noter le compartiment moteur, une vraie salle-machine où on peut tenir debout !

Le même matin, Michal fait aussi son entrée. Parti une semaine avant nous, il a donc mis 25 jours, seul dans l’océan sur son bateau de cinq mètres, pour relier les Bermudes aux Açores… Son bateau étant un peu inconfortable, il vient s’installer dans la cabine avant de Thula Thula pour la durée du séjour à Horta, une dizaine de jours.

Marion Cotillard,Fransa’da rol aldığı filmlerden sonra asıl çıkışını ABD yapımı Tim Burton filmi ‘Big Fish’te yardımcı rol almasıyla yapmıştır. Happy Hispanic Heritage Month to our Queens!

Hey y'all! Here in the US Sep 15th-Oct 15th is Hispanic Heritage Month! Today I'm taking a moment to spotlight all the Latino/a/e/x queens in global productions of Six. Quick note that Hispanic/Latino identities have quite a bit of complexity that I'm trying to factor in while making this post; for further explanation of which queens were/were not included, check the "read more."

Some stats: - We still have not seen any Latina Seymours who actually got to debut (although Alizé Cruz did cover the role as rehearsal alt). - Howard has been played by the most Latino/a/e/x queens, with four principals as well as two alts and a rehearsal swing. - Meanwhile Cleves and Parr have had three principals as well as two alts and a rehearsal swing; Boleyn has had one principal as well as three alts and two rehearsal swings; and Aragon has had two principals as well as two alts and a rehearsal swing.

A couple notes and definitions: - All information is from this post. There may be additional info or queens missing, as it's only information I specifically have been able to verify. This list also doesn't encompass the full breadth of many queens' identities; many of them are of mixed race and ethnicity, or of several nationalities. For more info on any given queen, that post has everything I know. - The terms "Hispanic" and "Latino" are often conflated within the US, but have different meanings. "Hispanic" refers to someone with heritage from a Spanish-speaking country, such as Spain, Mexico, Chile, and Cuba. "Latino" (or Latina/Latine) refers to someone of Latin American heritage, which by broad definition includes South America, Central America, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and some of the Caribbean, including non-Spanish-speaking countries like Brazil. While the month is called Hispanic Heritage Month, it's typically defined as focusing on celebrating those of Latin American descent. As such, I'm not including queens of Hispanic but non-Latin American descent. - However, there is further debate and difference in identification even beyond that in terms of which countries/people identify as Latin American. For anyone from an area where Latin American identification may differ, such as most of the Caribbean, I generally acquiesced to what the queen themselves identify as. As such, there's very little inclusion of Caribbean queens on this list, because most of them identify themselves as purely Caribbean rather than Latin American. - This debate also comes up with the many Filipino/Pinoy queens. Many identify themselves as being of Hispanic AND Asian heritage due to Spanish colonization in the region, which would make them Hispanic rather than Latino. Of course, there is a possibility that some of the queens could be have mixed Filipina AND Latina background; however, I don't have anything where any of them identified themselves as such, and so in keeping with specifically Latin American queens I did not include them in this post. (You can find them in the Asian American and Pacific Islander post, however!) - Additionally, this post does not include Rhiannon Bacchus as she was part of the cancelled Breakaway 2.0 cast. She is Guyanese.

Dreamcast: US Rehearsal Alts Edition

Hey y'all! A while back someone had asked me to make a dreamcast of rehearsal alts who hadn't yet debuted. I really enjoyed working on that, and now with Alizé Cruz joining the Boleyn Tour I thought it would be fun to do another in that vein. I realized exactly ten US-based rehearsal alts hadn't ever done an on-board contract, so for simplicity's sake I just did a US-style cast with those 10. I also generally factored in the covers that each rehearsal alt prioritized during their time with NCL.

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month Pt. 2: Latina Seymour Dreamcasts!

I noted in my Hispanic Heritage Month post that, as far as we know, there’s yet to be any Latina actors who have debuted as Seymour. @lightleckrereins and I have talked about that a few times on and off and thrown around some ideas for who we might want to see. We were holding out hope for Cassie to be the first, but of course that didn’t happen. However, that means I’ve had a mental list* of actors who could be the first debuting Latino/a/e/x Seymour for a while now, and in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month I thought I’d post some of them! This is nowhere near comprehensive even just in terms of who I’d like to see, but it's a handful who I'd particularly like to see. A few others are coming up in some other dreamcasts I’ve been working on too.

For some of these I have specific alt covers noted that I’d like to them as, for others I don’t which usually means just Seymour in general. Most of these actors could also play/cover other roles, but since the focus of this post is just on Seymour I didn’t want to get too heavily into all of my individual dreamcasts for each!

From the ages we know: Carly would have been the oldest actress to have been in Six, as she was just a few weeks away from her 34th birthday when she debuted. However, Lexi McIntosh could have been the oldest at debut because we know she was at least 31. She also should be the oldest actress currently with the show. Annabel Marlow was the youngest actress ever in Six at the time of her debut, being about 18 and a half while Shimali de Silva was almost 19. The current birth years span from 1987 (Carly Dyer and Aimie Atkinson) to 2000 (Chelsea Dawson and Roxanne Couch).
