Why Q is the best character in "Alphabet Lore"
So, today I watched "Alphabet Lore" out of curiosity of how (and why) it became a meme.
Well, needless to say that it demolished me. It was a roller coaster of emotions, and a good one. Especially counting that it started as a challenge and not a serious project, so it definitely deserves praises for this.
But today, I am not here to talk about how amazing this series is (I think you should check it out yourself). Today I will talk about why Q is the best character in the story.
Let's start on who Q is: Q's first appearance is in the episode of the same name. Q's character is present as slow (also noticeable by his slug like appearance) and has a very calm feeling to him. A particular detail that makes him stand out is how he screams his letter.
For most of the show, he just follows the other letters. And we don't get much of him until the 25th episode, "Y". Q appears at the end of the episode, and he screams his letter, but, this time, a question mark gem comes out of his mouth, granting us episode 26, "n".
The "n" episode works as a prequel of the events that happen in the main series. In it, we have the answer to what the gems are and how does Q posses one, and, Q's story takes a much tragic angle.
In the flashback, at the end of the episode, we can see little Q swallowing the question mark jule, and it gives him a flashforward in which he sees all of the events of the series playing out. And that gives us a new prospective on Q's actions. Now Q following the others isn't something that just sets him apart from the rest, but is because Q was trying to avert them of the terrible fate they would suffer.
Another tiny details that I like to point out, is what happens after Q has those visions. He becomes traumatized from the horror he had witnessed, and he starts scream to the other with a broken voice and, in that moment, we hear a lullaby playing.
Now, I know that this lullaby is rappresenting of F's feeling of betrayal from the other letters, but I think it can also be applied to Q.
The lullaby plays right after Q's vision, the moment he looses his innocence, and that is why I think the lullaby is symbolic to Q.
Lullaby are something that you would sing to a kid, they sound harmless and sweet and, most importantly, innocent. So, the lullaby could symbolise this, Q lost of innocence.
I know F is a great character, but I still think that Q's a better character for his actions and how his involvement is accidental. He wasn't trying to make fun of someone or go against something, it was all incidental.
And this, is why he is my favourite.
