my apologies for not sending a ask in a while. i look at your ask box but realize that i dont have to time to write one of my asks and when I do have the time, I forget to :/
I did get to plant my tulips yesterday! :D they're gonna hopefully grown into pretty white and red striped/red flowers in spring, it's a touch early for me to plant them bc as of right now it's September 23 and the recommended time to plant the bulbs is October and December.
Planting them also reminded me to properly bag the dirt and clean the pots from the summer plants that unfortunately died due to less sunlight over August and overwatering so I'll try to be careful to not do it.
I would try again some time but not now as I've learned my lesson in caring for 15 sprouts. There wasn't enough space on the window to fit them all and have them get sun
I did try to write the creature that I mentioned but it got too big for my scope and so it's not finished and I'm aware that I won't return to it for a time between tomorrow and never but I also wanted to share it with you
<><><> are cut offs that I didn't seamlessly translation to, they're stitches to each paragraph (also seams and stitches, like sewing and knitting. i call my writing style as scenes stitches together into one story)
----
As much as it doesn’t like the things that wander into its home. it also doesn’t want the young to simply die. it would be cruel, their death would have been a mistake. it doesn’t want something so young to die because of a simple mistake.
it presses on the small thing’s chest, like how it had seen it be done before, applying a light pressure with its knuckles.
Water began to spill out of their mouth, with some of it landing on it, that was good. Even if it had to deal with gross water until it can clean itself later, it means that the liquid is getting out so it presses against, just a tad bit harder.
the little thing began to jerk and struggle against its hold, coughing up more water. it chirped and clicked soothingly in a attempt to calm them down.
After several long and painful minutes where it clicked worryingly as the thing got rid of the water in their lungs. the little thing heaved up on last dribble of water then stopped. Stopped moving and went limped in its hold.
it shook at them, panicked and hoping that they haven’t died. The thing makes a whining noise and grabs at it’s fur and buries their face into it, this new position made it able to feel their breathing.
Good, that was good. it means that they’re still alive. it pretends that it doesn’t trill at the feeling.
What does it to do now? It didn't plan too far other than "save the child." Now it's stuck with a child that's already dozing off to sleep, not knowing where or how to find their parents, and if it did; There'd be a high chance it'll get attacked. Another thing to add on top of their problems was that it smelled.
It could obviously keep the kid, raise them as their own, but it knows it wouldn't be a good idea.
For one, it had no clue how to raise a child. The only experience it had was a small four legged animal, and all it did was toss some meat in their direction while hoping they'll leave. It doesn't even know what to feed them! Never mind that it didn't really want to, it entertained the thought but realized it wasn't for them.
So that means it'll have to think of another thing as it begins to walk away from the river with the child.
<><><><>
along the way, the youngling makes a bigger attempt at commutation as they walk. tiny chirps and sounds too familiar to the ones they heard before, but they don't seem to be malicious.
it indulges into the things fantasy, making clicks and chirps itself. snickering when they try to make the small complicated clicks and failing.
A loud noise erupts out of nowhere and it’s on high alert, an ear twitching to follow the sound. Rough, it recognizes the sound as being the ones from the things that try to kill it. That meant there was danger.
The sound came from the path ahead and was rapidly approaching, sounding like a distress call. It doesn’t take chances and possibly gamble with both of their lives so it scoops up the child, ignoring the yelp coming from the child and dashes up the branches.
it climbs not too high up, it couldn’t really. there was only so far it can move up with one of its limbs preoccupied. Still, it was just out of direct sight.
With a claw over the thing’s mouth to silence them. It waits, listening and watching the ground. Waiting to see what comes out.
The sounds of the wind, the stream, and small fast creatures running invades its hearing along with the sound footsteps coming closer. it growls at the extra information it doesn’t need, shakes its head to regain focus and zeros into the footsteps.
From
<><><><><>
A rock is pelted straight to its head, causing their grip on the branch to loosen as they hiss.
The parent fretted over their child and
it tilted its head to the side when the man turned to itself, speaking in a soft yet gruff tone, genuine unlike the many others who tried to fight against it. Strange but stranger still was when the youngling wiggled their way out of their father’s grasp and approached it with the same yellow flower.
they held up the small plant, clearly as an offering. even as the parent grabs onto the shoulder and tries to pull them back, the child is stubborn.
<><><><><>
it continues to see the child through the suns, always playing in the same spot. it doesn’t approach and keeps itself hidden from their view, it thinks that the kid could still them through the beaches they climb. a hunch based on the numbers of times the child looked in the same area they were hidden.
---
It truly a shame as I did want the father character to give the creature a cape of some sort as a gift for protecting his kid. I'd imagine that the creature wasn't 'born' persay but I'm too quite sure how it came to be (a curse would be fun but atlas it'll make way for even more world building and characters)
The creature by the end of the story is reviered as storytale creature. Something that little kids would believe in and that teens would scoff at and the adults would be split in the actuality.
After all, marks on trees can't couldn’t have come from a wolf or wild cat, it would be too high for the wolf and the marks deeper than what a wild cat can make. The clicks has to come from somewhere and no fabric is dyed that shade of orange. But they have to come from somewhere.
A throughout time sequence would be cool as well.
The creature, who is able to dodge the hunters and pass on as a old wives tale, still living even after the people upgraded to photography and guns and not just swords. The things they collect from people who had dropped them accidentally. The observations of how cameras work and to disable them as pictures and drawings were what drew to people to start hunting it.
It wouldn't be able to learn to understand language but it can be taught to do certain things. It's smart enough to learn things easily after witnessing a couple time.
Did it learn humanity? Well kinda, it learned from what it seen and how it preiceves things.
Small children who don't know better, chirps and short light sounds convey friendliness, images of itself means its known and has to hide.
Sometimes it doesn't care to learn certain things like fire, it could be useful to it but it only sees the desolation it leaves behind after a forest fire, the sticks that people use to try to locate it, cooked food seemed like a chore and not worth the effort.
Digging through something that is able to understand things in its own way with completely different biology, priorities, and experiences is cool I think.
And I haven't really thought about how it looks like...... whelp, the imagination of the audience can fill in the rest
-reblog mutal anon

List 5 things that make you happy, and (if you feel like) put this in the askbox for the last 10 people who reblogged something from you! Get to know your mutuals and followers.
if you feel like it, ofc <3
AHHHHH thanks!!!!!!! This is really fun <3
1) My little nephew! He's two and also the cutest person on this planet (as all two year olds are) and also I love him a lot. He loves singing Old McDonald but specifically only the e-i-e-i-o part. He's SO good at singing the eieio part. Also when he's going to sleep my brother sings him this version of "Goodnight, Ladies" where instead of "ladies" it's "[nephew's name]" and now my nephew will sometimes mumbly sing it when he gets sleepy. Which means he'll essentially just go "Goodnight me, goodnight me!" over and over again until someone starts getting him ready for bed. HE'S SO CUTE and I love him so so so much
2) Springtime in general. On brand for tumblr user space-spring but I really do love spring a whole ton and I'm so glad it's warming up again where I'm at :) There's a tulip festival in the next city over and I am going to go and look at so many tulips. My local university also plants a bunch of flowers on campus around this time of year so I want to go walk around and look at em all
3) NYT's little word games. My little brother and I both play them and I was just texting him a few minutes ago about today's Connections and we got to complain about how unintuitive the answers were. Very fun all around
4) Sleep. I am always eepy and really like naps :) can and will fall asleep if I am sitting still for more than five minutes
5) Cold cereal. We (meaning my sister and I who are only 2 (two) people) currently have like five boxes of it sitting on our table and it's been like 50% of my meals for the past week. It's quick it's cheap it's easy and I am a huge fan

Bad News: I printed out a bunch of nice text bits for my wall with the intent of framing them so I could look at the wall and remind myself and / or make my life easier ... And they do not fit in the frames.
Tumblr media
I very stupidly made them for standard letter paper and forgot that frames to not actually come in a standard letter paper size. They come in little bastard sizes. So now I have to redesign them and reprint them.
This account is run by a Dual Faith «(Converting) Masorti Jew + Traditional NeoWiccan» & «Ancestral Folk Magic Practitioner» with 20+ years of experience as a practicing Pagan and Witch. If that bothers you, don't interact.
Good News: I got the flowers for the mantle, and they were 50% off so I wound up paying much less for more, than I did for the Tulips last time. And they're far better quality this time, too; a nice rubbery texture instead of the cheap plasticky stuff of the last ones.
I also replaced my Shabbat candles. Everything just looks so nice this time. I'm very happy with it.
This blog belongs to a «Multi-Neuroatypical + Multi-Disabled» «Queer» «Childless» «Jewish + Pagan» «NonTraditionalist» Homemaker. TradWives are unwelcome.
Great News: My Lilac survived all of the spraying my neighbor did last year trying to get rid of the English Ivy and Trumpet Vine on the side of their house. It killed off a lot of my plants there last year- especially my Lilac. But now it's putting out a lot of new growth!
Tumblr media
I'm so happy. I thought I'd lost it. She's a resilient little bab, though, apparently. I may not get flowers off her this year, but that's fine. I'm just so incredibly glad that she survived! Especially since I spent a decade looking for this 'Miss Kim' cultivar in the first place.

for fanfiction research purposes,. did Alex have any hobbies in his later years other then being a massive bitch? -anonymous
lmfao
but yes finally, an ask to put my research to use. though disclaimer, as I feel that I must - I am no where near qualified to be a historian or even considered one. I do my research for my own entertainment and only do my best, but I am not proper source material. with that out of the way,,, here's what I know
when not thirsting for the sweet nectar of revenge and being a petty spiteful little politician; Hamilton had his basic interests as any man would, like reading and writing.
I think he also knew how to play the piano, but I'm not sure - I do know he fancied singing. (he apparently sung with McHenry during the war) he also enjoyed singing with his daughter, Angelica Hamilton, who could play the piano (fun fact: the piano was a gift from the Churches).
other then that, Hamilton also gardened, a lot. he did all of the gardening at the Grange estate. after resigning and "retiring" from politics, old man Hamilton thought it would be time to settle down and find something to keep himself busy with (or just to get a life outside of politics). so as such, he started gardening after moving and leaving the White House. though never having had to plant a thing in his entire lifetime, Hamilton was quite unprepared and called upon his friend, Richard Peters, for help. (this is where that hilarious "I may be out of politics but I still hate Jefferson" attitude comes in)
"A disappointed politician you know is very apt to take refuge in a Garden. Accordingly I have purchased about thirty acres nine miles from Town, have built a house, planted a garden, and entered upon some other simple improvements.
In this new situation, for which I am as little fitted as Jefferson to guide the helm of the UStates, I come to you as an Adept in rural science for instruction. The greatest part of my little farm will be dedicated to Grass. The soil is a sandy loam, in which there is rather too large a dose of Sand. Yet every thing has hitherto thriven well."
(source)
Tumblr media
he even drew a sketch for his planned garden, as seen above. writing of wanting to plant raspberries, potatoes, and fix some fencing. and “A few dogwood trees, not large, scattered along the margin of the grove would be very pleasant,” “wild roses around the outside of the flower garden with [mountain] laurel at foot.”
and something of a flowerbed filled with a unspecified type of bulbs.
"1. Transplant fruit trees from the other side of the stable.
2. Fences repaired. Two repaired behind stable. The cross fence at the foot of the hill? Potatoes Bradhursts? Ground may be removed and used for this purpose. Cows no longer to be permitted to range.
3. The Sod and earth which were removed in making the walks where it is good may be thrown upon the grounds in front of the House, and a few waggon loads of the compost.
4. A Ditch to be dug along the fruit garden and grove about four feet wide, and the earth taken and thrown upon the sand hill in the rear.
2. The Gardener, after marking these out and making a beginning by way of example, will apply himself to the planting of Raspberries in the orchard. He will go to Mr. Delafield for a supply of the English sort and if not sufficient will add from our own and some to be got from our neighbors.
3. If it can be done in time I should be glad if space could be prepared in the center of the flower garden for planting a few tulips, lilies, hyacinths, and . The space should be a circle of which the diameter is Eighteen feet: and there should be nine of each sort of flowers; but the gardener will do well to consult as to the season.
They may be arranged thus:6 Wild roses around the outside of the flower garden with laurel at foot.
If practicable in time I should be glad some laurel should be planted along the edge of the shrubbery and round the clump of trees near the house; also sweet briars and A few dogwood trees not large, scattered along the margin of the grove would be very pleasant, but the fruit trees there must be first removed and advanced in front.
These labours, however, must not interfere with the hot bed."
(source)
he also planted 13 sweet gum trees in honor of the original 13 colonies. though due to relocation of the Grange, they have died, but thankfully new ones were planted in their honor.

hope this helped!

So people who dye are free to correct me. I've tried to fact-check all of what I'm about to say, but sometimes I'm still wrong about stuff like this.
But basically, natural fibers can be divided into two groups: cellulose and protein.
Acid dyes can dye protein fibers, but not cellulose.
Fiber reactive dyes, in general, can dye all of these, but it gets a little bit funky when you get into how. Tulip is a specific presentation of fiber reactive dye, so not everything that can be dyed with fiber reactive dye will dye with Tulip.
Tulip is specifically built so that it's easy and safe to use, but still gives good results. This means they use safer products (I believe sodium bicarbonate instead of sodium carbonate for the PH adjuster) and simplified techniques (omitting the soda ash soak and just mixing it with the dye powder). Because these dyes are made more easy-to-use, they're also aimed to target a smaller range of fiber types than what most fiber reactive dyes can do. This system works really well for them, and it's why they make the most commonly-available and recognizable tie dye kits out there.
They specifically target cellulose fibers. Cellulose fibers come from plants, so they include cotton, hemp, linen/flax, jute, bamboo fiber, and ramie. They also include synthetics made from plant pulp, so rayon, bamboo rayon, modal, all those great ones for polluting the planet, and also tencel/lyocell. They're synthetic, but they also are made of plant pulp, so they're cellulose fibers.
Protein fibers are fibers made from hair, and also silk. Silk is a special case. But wool, alpaca, mohair, angora, whatever fibers made from yaks are called, felted cat hair, your own hair, etc are all protein fibers. Silk is also a protein fiber, but it's not a hair fiber. Silk is basically just doing its own thing at all times. It's the only naturally occurring filament fiber, it's a protein fiber that's not a hair fiber, it's just doing whatever it wants. No wonder people have fought wars over it.
From a dye viewpoint, you can use fiber reactive dyes on hair fibers and silk, but you cannot use really harsh bases with them. It'll damage the hair more than we want. In addition, silk, being the rebel that it is, will take your fiber reactive dyes and turn them different colors. It's really bad at accepting blue pigments, so your black dye is now purple and your purple dye is now raspberry and boy howdy aren't you glad you did test swatches because otherwise you cannot know what on earth that color is going to be.
Acid dyes, on the other hand, only work on protein fibers, but they're pretty easy to use. They're a hot water dye, so you put your wool sweater in your designated dye wok and heat it up. You'll be able to tell when the dye process is complete because the pigment will leave the water and go into your fiber, leaving your water almost clear.
Oh, and nylon, while neither a protein fiber or a hair fiber, will take acid dye really well. Chemically, the structure of a nylon molecule is similar to a hair fiber, so nylon takes acid dye really well.
You might notice that the "make a big vat of dye, add vinegar, boil things in it, tadah" sounds a whole lot like Rit's promise of "make a big vat of dye, boil things in it, eh it's fine!" Remember how Rit is two different kinds of dye in one bottle? One of those is an acid dye, and it's why the instructions on Rit tell you to add vinegar if you're dyeing silk/wool/nylon. Again, Rit isn't as good as a pure acid dye, because it's got all that direct dye floating around in it and that direct dye is going to fail to bind to your wool/silk/nylon and make an annoying mess to rinse out.
But Rit is available at Safeway and it's easy to use, so I still use it.
Did I mention that nothing dyes polyester? Because I get that question a lot, so let's mention it. If you need to dye modacrylic (wigs, fake fur) then Katie Bair's Petting Zoo Wig Dye does that really well. I have no idea what's in that stuff or why it works, but I have checked it out and it does actually bind to the fibers and stop bleeding and washing out. I've dyed wigs with this shit that have been used in theatrical productions that run for months and need to get washed and restyled every four shows (makeup and sweaty actors) and this stuff stays put.

pov : you open the ask tab to send messy an ask, you see "wOW THIS IS RARER," you get stunned for no reason, you are me. ANYGAY-
Hanahaki, the fictional disease! The one that starts with pining, let it be mutual or not, with a bunch of angst and hurt, and near-death experience! One of my favorite tropes, tho admittedly, I don't know much about it except for from the couple of fics I've read. I love pain (It's the fact that I don't even know if I'm being sarcastic or not-)
The petals falling from his hand mixing with his coughed up blood and tears just makes everything so terrible. Hurts, Messy, it hurts. Did you choose a specific flower to draw, or was it random? Because if you chose yellow tulips or purpose, I am ready to haunt you with my ghost.
The more I stare at it the more I want to cry because I'm good at building flashes of fanfiction inside my head. George pressing at his chest to suppress the ache is just- I don't even know.
Ok, I just reread the text and it said unrequited love, and both of the fics I read clearly didn't follow that. They said that it stops if you tell the special one that you love them and they love you back, or you die from either being rejected or having a whole plant bloom in your chest. Either way, angsty angsty. So what if it was that Dream actually Did love George back but he died before George got to tell him..
-✗
wait im putting this under read more bc i typed a lot LOL
ok LMAO WAIT i think 'wow that's rarer' is my message for submissions, i opened it the other day to see if submitting anonymous was possible lol idk why tumblr got those two mixed up xp
to be completely honest, there are a lot of fanfics in the many fandoms ive been in, that i skipped because i just hate consuming any form of angst (unless theres comfort at the end, tho sometimes its unclear so i read it all and die bc of how sad it is) and god. hanahaki disease just hurts. a lot of the hanahaki fics ive read actually end well and even tho im glad, i keep thinking, "pussies the lot of you!! pussies!! if its hanahaki, let them sufffffer"
the flowers were on purpose actually =3= but not yellow tulips 😏 (i searched and it stands for hope and cheerful thoughts ohoho nope) it's pretty unclear in the drawing bc i wanted it to look like mostly a mash of yellow but those are daffodils :)
usually they mean beginnings, rebirth, all those good stuff but if you know the story of narcissus, its completely different :))) in short, it symbolized unrequited love :)))) george is vomitting yellow daffodils, which are actually also pretty dangerous to consume because it has toxic chemicals that causes nausea, abdominal pain and more stuff :))))
my boy is suffering :'''')
i've read a couple of hanahaki fics and some of them says it ends once told they're loved by their beloved whether true or not while some other makes it so it doesnt work if its a lie. take from that however you will :))))))

yeah, everything's fine! tbh i'm quite surprised my dad slowed down on his own without my mom telling him to do it. i only realised it after like 15 minutes or sth. but still,,, i trust his driving abilities, so i'm always not that worried about coming back home. but seriously,,, it was soooo foggy & dark, the whole atmosphere was just creepy. i'm just glad we didn't have an accident with the deer; it would've ended so much worse than my fox accident 🤧🤧🤧 yeah, i saw the photo! & i posted it!
ah that’s great! lolll it’s a miracle when my dad slows down too 😔oh gosh you didn’t tell me about the fog 😬 i bet if you knew for sure you’d be safe it’d actually be pretty cool huh. omg fox accident 👀 were you the one driving? (upon inspection, the amaryllis are probably red rather than pink. they’re really nice tho, the safe plant’s two blooms have started opening. and neat, i didn’t know that about tulips. i was also worried because before the cat beheaded it, he practically snapped the plant itself in half 😳 i’m glad it seems to be doing well tho, i got to heal a plant for once 😔
