OK so I'm rewatching some of the behind the scenes stuff posted to YouTube and apparently Katia is supposed to be 23?
Alright, I put so much effort into this timeline, trying to make it make sense. Trying to connect the dots. Relying on real history from, in some cases, pretty obscure (to Western audiences) places.
And now I'm forced to conclude that no one can agree on anything? Some say Katia was born in 1980 and if she was 23 she'd have been born in 1992 which is just after the Soviet Union collapsed and it basically fucks up the whole timeline, as far as I'm concerned.
I'm not sure if Hannah Ware misspoke or if she was misinformed or if, in fact, nobody knew what the fuck was going on and it's assumptions all the way down.
Also, I want to see the version of the script where like, Katia "isn't interested" in the activities of her peers bc what ended up in the final cut of the film makes her look alone in a crowd, as it were, watching others and keenly aware that she isn't like them, isn't a "normal" person even if she has long since forgotten why. IIRC she doesn't ever turn down invitations to concerts or hanging out or anything like that. (This also gets mentioned in the booklet that comes with the bluray I got from Europe, that Katia doesn't want to do things that would distract from her goal. But, and I cannot stress this enough, that's not the character we got in the final cut of the film.)
