it has only been four months since you were hired by takashi mitsuya, a rising fashion designer in the industry. it meant a lot to you, of course, finally getting your foot in the fashion industry. it didn’t matter which position, you were just happy that you were finally getting yourself submerged into the world of fashion.
you were excited to learn so much from takashi, having been a fan of his since his small debut and after seeing him in a magazine page. one thing that baffled you was the amount of assistants he’s had. having heard that he was strict, that he watches like a hawk for food. that was unsettling for your nerves.
“taka-chan! oh, hello. new assistant?”
but there was also this tall, world class international model that barges into takashi’s studio — hakkai shiba.
seeing him was a reminder that you needed to measure him for takashi’s upcoming project, a clothing line for men. or women, they’d be unisex either way. you scratched your head upon seeing hakkai, and to your surprise, yuzuha wasn’t with him this time.
“um, yeah,” you said to him, quickly grabbing the worksheet that had blank spots meant for the measurements you were about to take. hakkai was intimidating — well, he looked like a puppy, but maybe it was the scar sitting horizontally on his lips and the blond buzzcut that had you shivering under his gaze. “taka- mitsuya asked me to take your measurements today.”
his mouth forms a little o, “right, yuzuha told me something like that today.” you blinked, he doesn’t know about the measurements today? “do you know where taka-chan went? i got something for him, i was droppin’ off some souvenirs from australia for the guys.”
“he just had an errand to do,” you told him. to be honest, you weren’t quite sure yourself. maybe you had forgotten or you just didn’t understand what he said when he told you. as you went to get everything ready, hakkai had sat himself down on the leather clad couch, partnered with faux zebra printed pillows and a throw blanket over the couch. his arm was resting on the tops of the couch, legs spread apart as he waited for you to finish getting ready. “are you re-”
“ready? yeah,” he finished your sentence for you, hopping up at the same time. hakkai wore a dark blazer over a bright blue hoodie, paired with a pair of black cargo pants and platformed dr. martens. he had chains bedazzling his figure, obnoxious round earrings decorating his ears. he was a good looking man.
for accurate measurements, hakkai proceeded to discard his outer layers, leaving him completely topless. “sorry, i don’t really like wearin’ shirts under hoodies.” he had scars ingrained in his skin, maybe from his former life as a delinquent in the past. his arms were kissed by the thinnest and lightest of scars. how many fights did he get himself into at some point? “i assume you like what you see?”
you hadn’t realized you were staring at him like a madman until he said something, which in turn made your cheeks heat up like a heater during winter. you turned away, the sound of his deep chuckles ringing in your ear. the rustling of his cargo pants made your skin crawl, and to be frank, your heart was beating really fast — too fast for its own good.
“c’mon, let’s get this over with, shall we?” hakkai said. you didn’t even hear him walk over you and here you were, pressed against the glass table with hakkai all over you. he knew exactly what he was doing, seeing your figure tremble at the sight of him so awfully close to you. hakkai grabbed your hand with a measuring tape in it, placing it on his toned chest, “start with my shoulders, yeah?”
you nodded, feeling hypnotized by his voice alone — you refused to look at him in his eyes. hakkai straightened out his shoulders to make sure your measurements were accurate and down to a t, smirking at your trembling hands cascading across his hot skin. you pulled off to write the numbers on the sheet you got from takashi’s desk, clearing your mind before writing as your hand was trembling.
hakkai stood a few feet before you, eyeing the way you were bent over the glass surface trying to write down his shoulders’ measurement. he resisted the urge to plop you on the table and pound the ever loving shit out of you — well, he wouldn’t for now. you’re takashi’s new assistant and he promised to stop dogging his assistants after the last one. and the last one. and the last one.
“ready for the next one, love?” hakkai spoke up, smirking at the way your shoulders tensed up. you were just so cute, too cute to be left alone of course. he digged the way your clothes hugged your body, the outline deliciously defining you. your curves and whatnot so beautiful in his eyes, it made his heart skip a few beats every time he thought about you naked and crying underneath him.
“waist… waist…” you muttered, holding out the measuring tape to wrap it around hakkai’s waist. hakkai wasn’t exactly slim, he had mass on his body, particularly around his arms. his abs, however, resembled bread rolls on a pan. you quickly shook off your thoughts that hopefully took your mind off of things — news flash, it didn’t work.
he was looking at your nervous expression, before making you look into his eyes. there was something different about them, you couldn’t put a finger on it. his thumb swiped over your bottom lip, humming gently at the way you tensed up. he leaned closely, lips dangerously close to your own, hot breath fanning over your skin. “you don’t mind this, right?”
your head nodded on its own, so dumb hypnotized by hakkai only having met him a few hours ago. he was simply mesmerizing, and sexy and hot. did god smile upon you? what did you do to stand this close with international model, hakkai shiba? you swore you’ve only seen him walk the runway abroad. new york, you thought.
“oh, so you do mind it?” hakkai asked with a hint of chuckles behind his words. his question made you shake your head no, not wanting him to stop whatever he was doing to you. “good, that’s what i thought… i’m sure taka-chan wouldn’t mind me in here again..~”
“again?” you asked, tilting your head to the side. hakkai placed his index finger over his lips, smirking rather devilishly at your wide-eyed stare. you make it so goddamn hard for him to not eat you up right then and there. hakkai motioned for you to sit on the table, caging you between his toned arms with his hands right beside your thighs. “what if we get caught…?”
hakkai shrugged his shoulders, the smirk not leaving his pretty face. takashi knew this but hakkai was notorious for stuffing his assistants with his dick. he always ended up firing him as they’d start looking for hakkai instead of doing their job as his assistant, though to be fair, they don’t do a job well done when they worked for takashi. “don’t tell him, yeah~? it’ll be our fun little secret.”
that was what tipped you over the edge — hakkai asking you to keep a secret for the both of you. your body seemed to have moved in its own when he chuckled at the way you were beginning to chase his lips, the pair of lips you have never even kissed in your life. he sneered, “oh? you want a kiss? you want a kiss from me?”
you felt so small being condescended by hakkai, but it felt so good. you don’t know what’s happening to your body but perhaps it was time to let it take control over what was happening. you let out a soft whine, wanting no more of hakkai’s teasing.
hakkai placed his hand on your knee, his thumb rubbing over the skin sitting hotly under it. he looked at you, “tell me if it’s too much. don’t want ‘ya feeling uncomfortable the whole time and not telling me. yeah?”
all you could do was nod, maybe you were so damn dazed over what was happening you couldn’t form your own little sentences to say to hakkai. your head was practically spinning with how hakkai dragged his hand up your thigh, snaking under the skirt, his lower lip tugged between his incisors. “let’s see what kind of treasure you’re hidin’ under there.”
you wore something plain, but still somewhat sexy. it was the one underwear your hand grabbed while fiddling in the dark. the panties were white, red laces wrapped around the band with a small adorable bow smacked dab in the middle. there was a small transparent window, showing so much of your skin and just barely showing your pussy. hakkai looked at your dampening white panties, letting out a groan from his throat. “you’re tryin’ to kill me here, sweetheart.”
hakkai instinctively pressed his index and middle fingers right on the wet spot, which made you jolt from the sudden contact of his fingers and your sensitive bundle of nerves. he tapped on your legs, the look in his eyes simply commanded you to keep them open. “good girl. does this feel good for you?”
no shit, you thought, but the translation of your thought came out as soft moans and the lewd sounds coming from your mouth. he began moving his fingers in a slow circular motion, studying the way you reacted towards such move. he liked the way your lips parted slightly to gasp for air, before biting the lower lip and groaning and throwing your head back. it was frustrating, hakkai wasn’t moving any faster.
hakkai pushed your panties to the side, eyebrows twitching at your wetness that pooled inside of you. his jaw clenched, he wanted to get a taste of you. he wondered how delicious you probably taste, considering how addicting your scent is. he wanted so much of you. “have you done this before?”
you refused to look at him, not really wanting to delve into your sex life. who could he possibly tell? you thought. you nodded, “a few times… they just never felt good. i-i’ve only cummed when i touch myself in my room.”
“ah?” he said, his fingers dipped themselves onto your wetness, groaning at how wet and lewd the sound it made. your legs closed lightly as a reaction, but you kept it open for hakkai. his coated fingers rubbed over your clit, your heart was skipping beats and your noises didn’t miss a single sensation. it was becoming too much, even you have never touched yourself in such a way. slow and dripping of sex.
hakkai caught the way your hole clenched around nothing. he found it almost amusing that you were desperate for something to stuff you with. he thought maybe you’ve had enough of foreplay, moving his fingers down to your hole and rubbed over it. without saying anything, he pushed his middle finger in. hakkai had slender and calloused fingers, so when he slid his finger inside you, it had already touched spots you didn’t think you’d feel before. it felt too good too fast.
hakkai adored the way you constantly clenched around his finger, like you were begging him for more in a non-verbal way. your little pouts and occasional glance said a lot more than words, as well. “do you want more?” you nodded, at the same time, hakkai pushed his finger in further. “use your words. you’re a good girl after all, aren’t you?”
initially, it was kind of embarrassing to be doing this. even more so with a well-known public figure, in your case, it’s hakkai shiba. you thought, i must be dreaming. this is one hell of a dream, though. except you weren’t dreaming — everything is very real. “i want more… please.”
“ah?” he started pulling his finger out of you, which you whined rather loudly when you could feel him almost pulling it out, your hand instinctively wrapping around his wrist. “oh, good. you actually did want me.”
hakkai stood you up before walking on over to the couch, and you could so clearly tell how hard he was through those dark pants. he sat with his legs wide open, eyes like a tiger when he looked at you. he raised his hand up and curled his fingers towards him, you could’ve sworn you saw his fingers glisten from the light. “sit.”
you proceeded to sit on his lap, but he stopped you. “i want you to sit with your back against me.” he motioned you to turn around and proceeded to place his large hands on your waist to sit you down on him — he was painfully hard. just the bare friction almost drove him off the edge.
hakkai’s hand snaked around your hips and around your thighs, opening them up so he could have full access of your pussy. “beautiful,” he whispered hotly into your ear. he dragged his hand back down to your pussy, shame he couldn’t see how pretty it is. hakkai rubbed his calloused finger on your already sensitive clit, his fingers only trained on what he was doing, the other one groping at your tits.
you were practically writhing in pleasure in his arms, his fingers seemed to have gotten faster on your clit, and before you knew it, he was pulling away again. you whined loudly, “no! more, please..!”
hakkai didn’t say anything, simply shoving two of his fingers inside your desperate little hole. all you could do was let out a pathetic gasp, so breathless when hakkai didn’t even let you adjust on his fingers, already pumping them in and out of you. every once in a while, he’d curl his fingers, certainly hitting a spot he knew would drive you mad.
hakkai was focused on building up your orgasm, though he felt like building it up another way. he tapped your thighs, “stand up for a moment for me, baby.” still seated, hakkai dug for his phone and placing it on the side, proceeding to discard his dark pants and putting them somewhere near him. your eyes widened at how big he was — no, hung. you knew it was big, however, not like this.
he noticed the way you were eyeing his dick, and initially he felt a little shy. but why? of all times, he felt shy now? he flashed you a smile, fingers rubbing his precum all over the pink head, “likin’ what you see? if you’re worried, it’ll fit.”
you rolled your eyes at him, chuckling, “i was more worried at how you could fit that into your pants.” hakkai chuckled in return, leaning back against the couch and patting his lap, you assumed he wanted you the same way as before, so you did. back flush against his toned front, he felt warm.
“open your legs for me,” he said, voice dripping in dominance. you adjusted your position until you felt comfortable. hakkai pressed his cock against you, earning a whimper from your lips. his tongue dragged across his bottom lip and at once, he pushed himself inside of you. it was almost addicting to him at how your pussy practically clenched around his throbbing cock, like you didn’t want to let him go. “a-are you feelin’ okay?”
for the most part, you felt fine. it was just that you had never been stretched out like that before. stretched out so deliciously, you were certain you’d remember hakkai so well. you reached for his hand, holding it tightly as he inched himself more and more inside of you.
“tell me if it-”
“please move,” you told him, your body practically slumped against his torso, already so out of it with just being stuffed with his cock. hakkai adjusted himself under you, his hips now having free reign of moving underneath. he pulled his cock out and slowly pushed it back in, just to ease his pathway a little. he did everything in his might to not slam himself back inside.
his grip moved to the back of your thighs, holding you open to prevent your legs from closing. with the way you were positioned, it almost felt like someone was watching you. watching you get fucked by your boss’ close friend, watching your tongue loll out of your pretty mouth as hakkai abused your pretty pussy with his cock.
you couldn’t help but imagine takashi sitting in front of you, cock in his hand, watching you and hakkai fuck in front of him. the thought only made you clench tightly around hakkai’s cock, making him groan ever so loudly against your ear.
the tune to glass animals’ heat waves started playing, which distracted you from your delicious little thoughts. hakkai’s hips slowed down and one of his grips from your thighs released. you were entirely too dazed to truly focus on what was going on, until hakkai held up his brightly lit phone to show you what was up.
takashi was calling him.
“should i answer him?” hakkai asked as he pulled his phone towards him. though you couldn’t see his face, you heard the smile from his lips. the thought of hakkai picking up takashi’s call had you in shambles internally, but your pussy said otherwise. you were clenching around hakkai once more, and hakkai noticed it. “hey, taka-chan! what’s up?”
“did you make it to my studio?” takashi asked. there was a loud whirring in the background, which only suggested that takashi was driving in his car. but was he driving back to the studio? more errands to run? it drove you over the edge.
hakkai didn’t stop his ministrations, a phone call never stopped him. he adjusted you on his lap so that you were sitting on his cock, hands placed on his knees for more support. you looked at him, and he mouthed bounce as a response.
takashi wasn’t dumb, he could hear the squelches of your pussy through the phone. he was pissed, of course, not because hakkai has yet fucked another one of his assistants, but he got to stuff you with his dick before him. takashi rubbed his temple, letting out a deep and audible sigh. “are you seriously fucking my assistant right now?”
hakkai placed his hand on the small of your back, letting out a deep and husky chuckle as he guided you up and down on his cock. he moved his hand on your hips, gripping at the skin until he was sure his handprint would show up. “surprised, are we?”
it was quiet on takashi’s end for a second, having parked in his parking spot as he contemplated what to say. your quiet whines and moans making it into the call was not only so delicious to listen to, but so awfully distracting.
“stop whatever you’re doing and wait ‘till i get there. next time, maybe invite me to the fun, yeah?”
hakkai put the phone down, smiling rather devilishly as he stopped guiding you on his cock. you whined at him again for stopping, “hakkai.. i want more..!”
“taka-chan’s comin’. you’re a good girl, right? be patient, sweetheart.”

Chapter 16 - Mouthy
When Rae woke up in the morning, Dally wasn’t in bed anymore. She wondered what time it was and how long she had slept. She sat up and took a look around the room. Her brother had left the bedroom door open. Someone was in the kitchen making breakfast, pots and pans banging around, oil popping. Probably Darry. She could also hear someone in the shower.
Rae pushed the blanket off her body and slid out of the bed. She made her way to the kitchen, yawning and wiping the sleep from her eyes. Sure enough, Darry was in front of the stove, frying some eggs in one pan, a second pan full of shredded hash browns cooking on the burner next to it. He looked up when she walked in and gave her a small smile.
"Mornin’, Rae," he said. She gave him a small wave with one hand, covering her mouth with the other against another yawn. He lifted his spatula "Want some food?"
"Yeah, sure," she replied. "What time is it?" Darry took a look at his watch.
"’Bout a quarter to nine," he answered, then went to flip the eggs and crack a couple more into the oil. She gave him a thumbs up in lieu of a ‘thank you’ and walked out of the kitchen. She made her way back down the hall in search of a new outfit. Even tied, Soda’s pajama pants were on the verge of falling off her hips and she’d dropped off some clothes the night before when they went to the dance. By the time she made it down the hallway, Rae noticed steam was coming out of the now open bathroom door. She peered inside and saw Dally standing in front of the mirror, wearing nothing but a pair of jeans, running a razor over his chin. She leaned in the doorway and crossed her arms, watching him. He caught her staring at him out of the corner of his eye and turned towards her.
"What?" he asked. All of the shaving cream was pretty much gone from his face.
"Waitin’ for your slow ass to get outta there so I can have a turn.” He scoffed, but grabbed a towel to wipe his face off.
"Fine, fine," he said, rolling his eyes. “When did ya get so mouthy?”
“Wonder who I get it from,” came her sarcastic reply. She lifted herself off the door frame with a pointed smile and went to gather her clothes. When she got back to the bathroom, her brother had vacated it. Rae closed the door, stripped out of Soda’s clothes and jumped into the tub. She turned on the shower and let the hot water wash over her. A sort of heaviness vanished from her chest, her breathing suddenly easier.
A knock at the door brought her back to reality. She jumped and almost slipped.
"What?" she yelled.
"How long you gunna be?" Two-Bit's voice came through the door. “Some of us, ya know, need to use the facilities.”
"You don’t pipe down and I’ll take longer!" she called out and rinsed the rest of the soap off her skin. She turned the water off, got out, and dried off. She threw on a long-sleeved shirt and some jeans. She exited the bathroom, comb in hand. Rae scowled at Two-Bit as she ran the comb through her hair. He stood, leaning against the opposite wall.
“There, happy?”
"Finally," her friend said in reply. "You’ve been in there forever." Her eyebrows lifted in mock surprise. She started backing up into the bathroom and put her hand on the door, ready to close it in his face. “Oh, come on,” her friend said, pushing himself off the wall. She pointed a finger at him in mock seriousness.
“Be nice to me.” A coy smile spread across her lips. He shook his head, but smiled as well.
“You’re in a good mood today,” he observed as he passed her and went into the bathroom. Rae headed for the front room. Dally was lounging on the couch, feet up on the coffee table. He had a plate in his hands, and he was cutting up his eggs with a fork. When she walked in, her brother looked up.
"What took you so long?" he asked after he swallowed his current mouthful. “Your breakfast is on the table.”
"Oh, just thinking," she confessed. Rae moved to the dining room table to grab her plate. She bit into a forkful of hash browns. It was cold. Oh well.
"You still day dream too much," he remarked. "Your friend called, uh, Carrie?”
"Oh, yeah?" she asked with a full mouth. “What’d she want?”
"She said somethin’ ‘bout a sleepover?”
"Oh!" Rae exclaimed. "Did she say when?" She forked some egg into her mouth.
“She said she was hopin’ for tonight if it was alright with me,” her brother answered. “Doesn’t Buck have a sister named Carrie?”
“Mmm. Yeah, she’s Buck’s sister,” she acknowledged and swallowed. “Chrissy’s mom must’ve finally come around.” Rae looked at her brother with pleading eyes. “And?” Dally pointed at her.
“Don’t look at me like that, kid,” he ordered. “Ya don’t need to beg. I think it’d be good for ya to get out for a night.” She smiled, and stuffing another forkful of potatoes into her mouth.
“Thanks, Dally!” She was pretty sure she might’ve spit some food at him.
“Manners?”
“Please, like you have any more manners than I do.” Rae reached her hand out to take his empty plate. He handed it to her and she wandered back into the kitchen to do the dishes.
“Just make sure to have your homework done before ya go!” he called after her.
“Yeah, yeah,” she grumbled.
Once she was done in the kitchen, Rae did as Dally ordered and sat on the couch while working on her History paper. Two-Bit dropped into the seat next to her after a while. As she finished each page, she handed the pieces of paper to him to proofread. He may not try very hard, but he sure was smart as hell. He went over with her what she needed to fix, and went to throw together a couple of sandwiches for lunch while she did so.
“Ya know, Two-Bit,” she started, biting into her sandwich. “You’d get good grades if ya actually gave a shit. Ya could probably get into one those, um, ya know? Really good colleges?” He shrugged, taking a sip from his glass of milk.
“Where’s the fun in that?” She huffed a laugh and continued eating her lunch, reviewing her paper one last time.
Later in the afternoon, Dally wandered back to the Curtis house from wherever he had been. Rae was stretched out on the couch watching television. Two-Bit had gone home a while before and Pony was reading in his room. She sat up when her brother walked through the door and flattened her hair with her fingers.
“I ain’t got the car today,” he announced. “But I’ll walk ya to Carrie’s.”
“You know where it is?”
“Oh, yeah. I’ve been to Buck’s parents’ loads of times.”
"Alright," she said and went to grab her backpack. Rae poked her head into Pony’s room and told him what was up. He nodded and she went to join Dally again in the living room. As soon as they were outside, he lit up a cigarette and then reached into his back pocket. He held out a couple of tens.
“If ya’ll decide to go out,” he started. She reached for the bills. He pulled his hand away, quickly, before she could grab them. “Be. Careful. Ya know what happened last time.”
“I know,” she drawled. He lowered the money back down to her. She pocketed them in the same pocket her brother kept his money in. “Thanks, Dally.” He took a drag of his smoke.
Before they reached Carrie’s house, Dally put out his cigarette and aired out his jacket so he wouldn’t smell like smoke. Rae knocked on the door and was greeted by Carrie’s mother.
“Rae Lee! It’s so great to see you again!” she exclaimed in her endearing ‘mom’ voice. Out of the corner of her eye, Rae saw her brother trying to hold back a laugh at the use of her middle name. She’d always hated it. When a call came from down the hall and the older woman turned to answer it, she took the opportunity to elbow Dally in the side. He blew out a surprised breath, his chest shaking with silent chuckles. “Dallas, it’s great to see you too,” Carrie’s mother said, and put a gentle hand on his arm.
“Yeah, you too Mrs. Merril,” he said, his most gentlemanly smile plastered on his face, trying to calm his laughter. “Can’t stay, though. Just droppin’ my little sister off.”
“I had no idea you two were related!” She looked them both up and down, trying to find the resemblance. “Anyway, honey, come on in. The girls are waiting for you in Carrie’s room.” She turned to head back inside, but stopped to look at Dally again. “Won’t you stay for dinner?”
“Oh-no, ma’am. Thank you. I got somewhere to be.”
“Alright, sweetheart. Take care. And Dallas, next time you see Buck, let him know it isn’t a crime to come visit his mother now and again. His grandparents missed him on our trip.”
“Of course, Mrs. Merril.” She disappeared into the house again. Rae turned to her brother.
“See ya tomorrow?”
“Yeah,” he answered and ruffled her hair.
“Stop!” she whined, but tried to reach up to his feathery, blonde hair. She stood on her tiptoes but he moved out of her reach and she pouted. “That’s not fair, youre too tall. I can’t reach your stupid head.”
“Go have some fun, kid.” She stuck her tongue out at him and turned to wander into the house. “But ya know, not too much fun.” She heard Dally shut the door behind her.

You Only Line Once #1 | Line Editing
Sooo, here I am, back at it again with yet another series. I had a lot of fun documenting my line editing journey in my line edit with me vid I posted a while back (which you can watch HERE), so I decided to make this a series on here. I actually intended to start this series back in August, and wrote the intro, but never posted it because I couldn't find a pun for the series title, lol. (I do it for the puns. Pretty happy with this strokes shoutout from You Only Live Once aha.) Two days ago, I wrote up a list of puns based off song titles, and @sssoto and @sarahkelsiwrites helped me narrow it down to You Only Line Once. Hope you enjoy this new endeavor!
I haven't talked about this all that often, but yessss, I have now started line-edits on my second novel, FOSTERED (which I talk about a lot, lol). I wrote this book when I was 13, and after watching @sarahkelsiwrites line edit in her Shrink Line Edit series, decided to take this on. I’m documenting my (very slow) progress on MyWriteClub as well. My goal was actually to get these edits done by the third of February, but at the pace I’m going, am totally going to have to scale that due date up.
I’ve actually re-written a scene from FOSTERED twice just for fun, and I always enjoyed the idea of possibly cleaning up the prose so it was an easier read. I haven’t read this book the full way through since I wrote it three entire years ago. Probably because the prose isn’t all that great, and while I’ve been able to move past that in recent months, I lose motivation after a while, and always stop reading at the same place. So that’s a bit of an explanation as to why I’m doing this exactly (still not publishing these books tho lol).
This has actually been my side project for the last couple weeks, but since life has = chaos the past while, I’m only now launching this thing. Regardless, I hope this journey will be fun (but expect lots of angst because that’s basically all I do when I line edit).
Also a quick disclaimer: *I’m line-editing this book, yes, to improve readability, but this isn't a re-write. My edits will continue to preserve the vibe and writing style of the original draft, so keep that in mind! Depending on the passage, rewrites may be involved (*cough* looking *cough* at *cough* Foster’s *cough* dialogue *cough*), but it’s sort of a selective process (not how I line edit for current shtuff, by the way, thought I’d put that out there).
Onto the shtuff:
Today’s goal: So this actually was my goal two days ago since I’m writing this for that session, but the goal was to (unrealistically, as I admitted) finish edits on chapter 6. If you missed my vid on line editing, I do two rounds of edits, the first pass, then the final cleanup. The first pass takes a very long time, so after I’m done that, I move onto the next chapter, edit that the final time, then edit the previous chapter a second time, etc, etc. Yesterday’s session was for chapter six’s first pass.
What I actually line-edited: I completed the first scene of six, as well as half of the last scene, so not too shabby, since I did make the goal at like 1AM.
Total chapter count: 4 edited in full, chapters 5 and 6 awaiting final pass
Total page count: 25
Updated word count: 89 008 in comparison to the original 88 000
The overall scope: Editing went rather well? The beginning was rusty because I had to remould some very stilted dialogue/fix some pacing issues, but I think the chapter has improved quite a bit. I cut a looooot of things in this chapter, as opposed to adding, which was a nice change, lol.
Music or nahhh: I don't believe so!
How much I angsted on a scale from 1-10: Not all that much. I’d say a 5 at most for the worst of it which was the very beginning of the chapter. I call this a win.
Song title that describes line-editing session: (stole this from my outlannis updates but this question is one of my faves to answer ha) You’re Good by The Narwhals. I felt pretty determined and collected, which was a very nice change, haha.
Favourite chapter edited thus far and why: I would still say it’s chapter one. I like the edits I've made on later chapters, but there’s something about the first chapter that I wouldn't mind reading again. I think I fleshed out Reeve’s voice a lot more in chapter one and made her sound a lot less monotonous which is cool, and I think with the edits, it’s a much better opening. Which is great, because chapter one hasn't really been a favourite!
Excerpt:
(as mentioned before, this is totally still not going to be perfect by any means. this one is pretty neutral/is a good example of what a clean up would look like!)
BEFORE (ft. a surplus amount of exclamation marks):
“Harrison come on! That’s not true! C’mon don’t think like that. If you weren’t here we’d all be dead right now! Do you not remember that little three trick you pulled with Red. Now don’t tell me shit that it was your fault in the first place because if you hadn’t told Red about me blah, blah, blah! You saved our lives regardless! Whether it was caused by a negative decision or not! So stop complaining! Just stop! I’m sick of hearing this because I really don’t like it when you talk about yourself like that!” I snap back, folding my arms over my chest. When he grabs me into a hug, I don’t flinch away, I return the favour.
“So, will you stop it then?” I murmur.
“I’ll try. Thanks Reeve.” He mumbles then has disappeared to the other side, leaving me in the darkness. Yes, there is no light, no sun to warm me. But on the inside, I’m as sunny as ever, my glow revoking every negative thought that has brought me down.
AFTER (ft. a considerable decrease in exclamation marks):
“That’s not true.” My voice is more frantic than I expect. Desperate for him to understand that the mistakes we’ve both made in the last couple days have hurt, but don’t define us. “Don’t think like that, alright? If you weren’t here, we’d all be dead right now. Do you not remember that little three trick you pulled with Red? You saved our lives regardless.” I bite my lip. “I know it’ll take some time, but I think we’re working on whatever this is.”
When he hugs me, I’m surprised, but return the favour anyway. He’s warm, despite the cool air moulded around us, smells like leather and ground coffee.
I’m not sure how long we stand there like that. But it’s enough time to solidify the lump in my throat, push the stupid feeling of missing something higher and higher in my stomach.
Eventually, he lets go, leaves me in the darkness. There is no light, no sun to warm me. But on the inside, I’m bright, my glow bringing me fresh hope for a new beginning.
she like a lowkey glo up I aint mad. droppin that classic harrisonboiii description tho yasss
So that’s it for this update! I hope you enjoyed seeing how exactly I go about cleaning a few paragraphs up! When I note more dramatic changes, I’ll definitely post about them in an update. :) For now, hope to see you in the next one!

Crypto Tidbits: Bakkt’s Bitcoin Market Explodes, Huawei CEO Skeptical of Blockchain, FBI Wary of Cryptocurrency
Another week, another round of Crypto Tidbits. Again, Bitcoin (BTC) saw a relatively meek week in terms of price action, or lack thereof; the leading cryptocurrency fell by 5% over the course of the week, but still seems to be stuck in a tight range as a trend fails to be established.
Despite this, the industry continued to chug forward. Bakkt’s Bitcoin volumes have shot through the roof as institutional interest picks up, Huawei’s CEO expressed skepticism towards blockchain technologies, and the FBI revealed that it is wary of the threats posed by cryptocurrencies.

Bakkt’s Bitcoin Volumes Explode to $15 Million: Bakkt Volume Bot, a Twitter account dedicated to publishing data about the exchange’s derivatives market, has reported that Bakkt has seen 1,741 BTC worth of contracts traded on Friday. This is equivalent to around $15.5 million, and importantly marks Bakkt’s largest trading day thus far. This statistic was later corroborated by the exchange itself, who excitedly tweeted near the end of Friday’s trading session:
“Today we set a new daily record of 1,756 Bakkt Bitcoin Futures contracts traded.”
Academics Accuse Bitcoin Whale of Pushing BTC to $20,000: Two skeptical researchers — John Griffin, professor at the University of Texas, and Amin Shams, assistant professor at the Ohio State University — recently revised their paper on Bitcoin from 2018, which stated that trades of the USD-backed stablecoin were responsible for sending BTC higher. The 119-page revised edition has made an additional assertion: that a single entity, a so-called whale (large cryptocurrency holder), was responsible for wresting Bitcoin from $1,000 to $20,000 in 12 months’ time through Tether.
Huawei Warns of Quantum Threat to Bitcoin, Crypto, & Blockchain: Earlier this year, Google unveiled that it had achieved quantum supremacy, when a quantum computer accomplishes a task that a traditional supercomputer cannot finish. Many have taken this as a sign that Bitcoin’s SHA-256 algorithm and others like are under threat. In a video published on Wednesday, shared by Chinese crypto venture capitalist Dovey Wan, Huawei CEO Ren Zhengfei said that blockchain and cryptocurrencies are unlikely to have a future, specifically due to the computing power that quantum devices have. According to Wan, Ren even stated that this technological class is “worthless” in the face of quantum computing.
Canadian Exchange Millions in Crypto Debt Seized:  Revealed in a press release published on Monday morning, the British Columbia Securities Commission (BCSC) has recently made a move to “protect customers” of Einstein Exchange, a crypto-asset exchange headquartered in Vancouver. The move: to gain an order from the Supreme Court of British Columbia allowing an interim receiver to “preserve and protect any assets of Einstein Exchange.” The Court granted the order to auditing company Grant Thornton Limited, as an official document from November 1st indicates. Grant Thornton Limited now has the authority to take control of Einstein’s assets and properties, along with the ability to enter any of the exchange’s premises if deemed necessary to protect customers.
FBI Reveals It Is Worried About Crypto Threat: Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Christopher Wray recently said in a Committee in Washington, D.C. that cryptocurrencies are already a “significant issue” when it comes to law enforcement.
Square Reveals Strong Retail Interest in Bitcoin: On Wednesday, Square revealed a statistic pertaining to the cryptocurrency industry: the company’s flagship product, the Cash App, sold $148 million worth of BTC in fiscal Q3 of 2019. Crypto analyst Kevin Rooke pointed out that this is the sixth straight quarter of growth for this facet of Square’s business. Rooke also noted that Bitcoin revenues at Square are now growing by a jaw-dropping 244% year-over-year, despite the fact that BTC remains over 50% below its previous all-time high of $20,000. Square’s report also indicated that first-time Bitcoin buyers are on the rise, which itself is a rather bullish signal. Delphi Digital co-founder Anil Lulla wrote on the significance of this statistic: “Always great to get a pulse on retail interest for BTC via Square’s earnings. My favorite takeaway this quarter: First-time bitcoin buyers have approximately doubled since September.”
Stellar Lumens Burns Billions Worth of Crypto: Announced in a blog post published on Monday afternoon, the Stellar Development Foundation (SDF) has made the decision to burn a majority of XLM it has control over. Prior to this move, there were around 105 billion Lumens in existence, approximately 20 billion of which are already out in circulation, being traded on exchanges and used by companies and individuals of the Stellar blockchain, and the rest being held by the SDF. Now, there is a relatively mere ~50 billion in existence, the other 55 billion having been burned by the SDF sending coins to “a Stellar account with no signers.”

Diary of a Madman, Page 27
8,600 people peering inside. Don’t get trapped.
I. Droppin’ New Knowledge
Analysis Deck: Space as a Platform: we’re opening the kimono a bit on our space plans for the future. But it requires new entrepreneurs. Get in touch.
The Science of Music: coupled with our new Apple Music Think Tank playlist.
Quill as Your Design in VR Preview: from Antoine RJ Wright, musings on the drawing interface of the future.
Real-Time Cellular Monitoring: from Hope Atina, a glimpse into Thesis V: Automatic Health Optimization
The Fountainhead Movement: Members Only
What Comes Next After Deep Learning?: has anyone even bothered to ask the question yet? One group has. 5 years ago. It ain’t rocket science, it’s common sense.
The Market at an All-Time High: strategies for profiting from the next correction.
Pricing Strategy: Incorporating Value Deck: a business school days resource for Fountainhead folks.
The Problem With Virality Algorithms: how do you incentivize slow-but-valuable quality when you need virality for someone to discover you?
Hard Tech Is the Answer: the question being, why have the innovators stopped innovating? ECom and Social isn’t it any more.
Join The Fountainhead Movement today for $9/month (through web browsers only, not inside Medium’s mobile apps) before the price goes up again.
II. See The Future Today, Begin Building Tomorrow
Bookmark the 12 Tech Theses if you haven’t already.
Video as an App: sooo, Netflix is doing well. If you think they’re going to stop at just streaming video, you’re sorely mistaken. Amazon used to only do books once too.
Music as a Control Mechanism: TIDAL sold some equity to a Softbank company. Puts the streaming service’s valuation at $600/user, 2x greater than Facebook or Linkedin and seemingly overvalued. Have a look back at our original Music Valuation analysis. Also, AI is composing now.
Biologic Intelligence Disrupting AI: you will not find a book at Barnes & Noble describing Biologic Intelligence, but they will put a picture of it unknowingly on the cover.
Space as a SAAS Platform: Check out the beginning of our 11-page future of Space startups deck, then have a look at Luxembourg. $200M+ for funding space startups, plus they’re now a leader in PE. 5 teams race to the moon, but stop by our Space homepage first.
Automatic Health Optimization: printing human organs to meet transplant demand.
Personal Hedge Fund: if you have to write instructions on a billboard ad, you blew it. Sell.
Personal Power Stations: how self-powered nano machines work, way back from 2008. Neatly sums up much of what we talk about here. But don’t fret. Nobody is going to steal your idea. Few people have the grit to build it. You have to will it into existence. You’re our only hope.
Self-Organizing Biorobotics: Amazon’s latest patent is awfully close. Can you see it yet?
Autonomous Internet of Things: this self-driving tank for fish is sorta like Biologic Intelligence if you removed the living fish and left it’s electrical impulses, but we’re going to need something like that for space robots manufacturing in zero Gs.
Reality Retail: Using other startup’s APIs, like Postmates or Grubhub’s means you can innovate and iterate faster than ever, especially in places like New York City.
Interstellar Sports Wearables: remember that secret Nike space clothing analysis from last week? Our friend is helping make space textiles a reality in Europe.
Superhuman Modifications: build your own night vision goggles if you’re not quite ready to shine your eyes or just get some adaptive eyeglasses.
III. Thoughts for Your Week
Startup: there are two ways to think about your business, startup, or country. (1) Zero-Sum Game: for me to win, you have to lose, and (2) Grow the Pie Together: we both profit more. Also, ‘Secret Double Octopus’ is the best startup name of 2017.
Throwback: From exactly 1 year ago, Emotion Will Be The End-Game User Interface.
Jobs: Cladwell is hiring a Product Manager. The tech press loves to lambaste about “executive departures”. Sometimes people just job-hop regardless of the company. Relax.
Advertising: There’s a huge Ad 3.0 opportunity for major corporations sponsoring Hard Tech. “We believe in science, fact, and investing in a better future”, especially in 2017.
News: China is investing in startups [The Information personal link]. That means they control the wealth, talent, and products of the future. Do you even care? If so, you must invest in Hard Tech.
